Abstract

Nanophase-separated Ni3Nb alloy exhibited higher performance than traditional Pt catalysts toward the remediation of automobile exhaust., Catalytic remediation of automobile exhaust has relied on precious metals (PMs) including platinum (Pt). Herein, we report that an intermetallic phase of Ni and niobium (Nb) (i.e., Ni3Nb) exhibits a significantly higher activity than that of Pt for the remediation of the most toxic gas in exhaust (i.e., nitrogen monoxide (NO)) in the presence of carbon monoxide (CO). When subjected to the exhaust-remediation atmosphere, Ni3Nb spontaneously evolves into a catalytically active nanophase-separated structure consisting of filamentous Ni networks (thickness < 10 nm) that are incorporated in a niobium oxide matrix (i.e., NbOx (x < 5/2)). The exposure of the filamentous Ni promotes NO dissociation, CO oxidation and N2 generation, and the NbOx matrix absorbs excessive nitrogen adatoms to retain the active Ni0 sites at the metal/oxide interface. Furthermore, the NbOx matrix immobilizes the filamentous Ni at elevated temperatures to produce long-term and stable catalytic performance over hundreds of hours.

Abstract

For long QT syndrome (LQTS), recent progress in genome-sequencing technologies enabled the identification of rare genomic variants with diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic implications. However, pathogenic stratification of the identified variants remains challenging, especially in variants of uncertain significance. This study aimed to propose a phenotypic cell-based diagnostic assay for identifying LQTS to recognize pathogenic variants in a high-throughput manner suitable for screening. We investigated the response of LQT2-induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cardiomyocytes (iPSC-CMs) following IKr blockade using a multi-electrode array, finding that the response to IKr blockade was significantly smaller than in Control-iPSC-CMs. Furthermore, we found that LQT1-iPSC-CMs and LQT3-iPSC-CMs could be distinguished from Control-iPSC-CMs by IKs blockade and INa blockade, respectively. This strategy might be helpful in compensating for the shortcomings of genetic testing of LQTS patients.

218. Establishing Spatial Database for Slope Failure with GPS Digital Camera

Abstract

GIS (Geographical Information System) is one of useful tools for disaster prevention. Especially Web GIS based on Internet is a reliable system to collect information of many maps and the attribute data. And Web GIS will be very effective to exchange information. Therefore, the disaster prevention system with Web GIS is required. The target of this study is to establish a system for collecting GIS data by using GPS digital camera. The image of GPS digital camera contains the coordinate of latitude and longitude in EXIF data. GIS data can be established by using the coordinate. However, the coordinate is just position of camera. The coordinate should be converted to point of the object in the taken image. Moreover, disaster area should be mapped on GIS. In this study, converting method for coordinate of the object in GPS camera image will be developed using Digital Surface Model (15 meters grid). The skyline image on the camera point can be simulated using DSM. Direction of the camera can be calculated by image matching with the skyline. After that, disaster area will be mapped. Field surveying with GPS digital camera was carried out for verification of this system. The correct ratio of skyline matching showed about 45%. A incorrect reason might be come from simple shape of skyline. Correct ratio may be raised by using high resolution DSM. In future, correct ratio must be raised, and shape of slope disaster in taken picture is generated as GIS data.

Abstract

during last 2 years, very severe natural disasters have occurred such like tsunami by Indian Ocean Earthquake, Niigata Earthquake and Katrina which is category 5 Hurricane. The disaster taught us that the fast data acquisition is important to reduce the damages. Satellite images and aerial photographs are often used to extract damages in a rough scale. Field survey is required to monitor damage in a detail scale. This study focused on the proposal of a practical data acquisition method for field survey using a handheld GPS camera and WebGIS. The evaluation of the proposed method was carried out by comparing data acquisition using a paper map. The result of evaluation shows the proposed method is 1.5 times faster than data acquisition using a paper map. The proposed method reduced data acquisition time and processing time. The third generation cellular phone which equipped a digital camera and GPS become the standard in 2007. Therefore the proposed method will take important role in the near future.

221. Synthesis of Au@Pd core–shell nanoparticles by ultrafine bubbles and ultrasound without capping and reducing agents

Abstract

This paper, for the first time, reports on the synthesis of Au@Pd core–shell nanoparticles in the absence of any capping and reducing agents by ultrafine bubbles and ultrasound. The mean diameter of the bimetallic core–shell nanoparticles was controlled by the ultrafine bubble concentration during the synthesis. Pd’s shell thickness also varied with the concentration of Pd(II) ions. These Au@Pd core–shell nanoparticles showed excellent catalytic performance due to the pure surface without any capping and reducing agents.Graphical AbstractThe size of Au@Pd core–shell nanoparticles synthesized by ultrafine bubbles and ultrasound decreased as the ultrafine bubble concentration increased. This is because the size of the core Au nanoparticles was reduced by ultrafine bubbles. Ultrafine bubbles have the effects of increasing the amount of ultrasonic cavitation and inhibiting the aggregation of Au nanoparticles. These Au@Pd core–shell nanoparticles without capping and reducing agents indicated superior catalytic performance for reduction of 4-nitrophenol.

223. Comparative effects of amlodipine and benazepril on Left Atrial Pressure in Dogs with experimentally-induced Mitral Valve Regurgitation

Abstract

Abstract Background One of the purposes of treatment for dogs with mitral regurgitation (MR) is lowering left atrial pressure (LAP). There has been few study of the amlodipine in dogs with MR and amlodipine’s effect on LAP has not been fully evaluated in a quantitative manner because of difficulties in directly measuring LAP. The objective of our study was to compare the short-term effects of amlodipine (0.2 mg/kg PO q12h) vs benazepril (0.5 mg/kg PO q12h), on LAP and echocardiographic parameters in five beagle dogs with experimentally-induced MR. LAP of eight dogs that has own control were measured using radiotelemetry system at baseline and again on days 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 of the drug administration. Results Mean LAP decreased significantly after amlodipine (11.20 ± 4.19 mmHg vs 14.61 ± 3.81 mmHg at baseline, p .05). LAP was lower after 7 days of amlodipine treatment than after 7 days of benazepril treatment. Significant reduction was seen for the first time 4 days after the administration amlodipine. The rate of the maximal area of the regurgitant jet signals to the left atrium area (ARJ/LAA) of the amlodipine treatment was significantly lower (p Conclusions LAP was significantly decreased after amlodipine treatment in dogs with surgically-induced MR but not after benazepril treatment. Although this study did not focus on adverse effects, amlodipine may be an effective drug for helping the patients with acute onset of severe MR, such as rupture of chordae tendinae or end stage patients were the LAP is likely to be elevated. Additional studies in clinical patients with degenerative mitral valve disease and acute chordal rupture are warranted because the blood-pressure lowering effects of amlodipine can decrease renal perfusion and this can further activate the RAAS.

Abstract

A Pt-based CO oxidation catalyst that works even at low temperatures is desirable for industrial applications; however, its development is highly challenging because of Pt's high affinity toward CO. Here, we develop a PtIVsingle-atom/β-MnO2composite metal-oxide surface (PtIV1/β-MnO2). Single PtIVsites were stably formed on the high surface β-MnO2by strong interaction with MnIVdefect sites. The resulting PtIV–O–MnIVlocal structures served the lattice oxygens as an oxidant to catalyze low-temperature oxidation of CO. PtIV1/β-MnO2was highly resistant to CO poisoning because of the high-valence state of the PtIVsingle-atom sites. Aided by these geometric and electronic features, the CO oxidation was catalyzed with reaction rates of 0.676 and 0.206 molCOh−1gPt−1at 25 °C and 0 °C, respectively, under the O2-rich conditions (O2 : CO ratio of 66.7). These are record rates in the literature for Pt-based catalyst application for low-temperature CO oxidation under near atmospheric conditions.
