202. Impact of Gut–Brain Axis on Hepatobiliary Diseases in Fetal Programming.

Abstract

The hepatobiliary system is vital for the biotransformation and disposition of endogenous molecules. Any impairment in the normal functioning of the hepatobiliary system leads to a spectrum of hepatobiliary diseases (HBDs), such as liver cirrhosis, fatty liver, biliary dyskinesia, gallbladder cancer, etc. Especially in pregnancy, HBD may result in increased maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Maternal HBD is a burden to the fetus's growth, complicates fetal development, and risks the mother's life. In fetal programming, the maternal mechanism is significantly disturbed by multiple factors (especially diet) that influence the development of the fetus and increase the frequency of metabolic diseases later in life. Additionally, maternal under-nutrition or over-nutrition (especially in high-fat, high-carbohydrate, or protein-rich diets) lead to dysregulation in gut hormones (CCK, GLP-1, etc.), microbiota metabolite production (SCFA, LPS, TMA, etc.), neurotransmitters (POMC, NPY, etc.), and hepatobiliary signaling (insulin resistance, TNF-a, SREBPs, etc.), which significantly impact fetal programming. Recently, biotherapeutics have provided a new horizon for treating HBD during fetal programming to save the lives of the mother and fetus. This review focuses on how maternal impaired hepatobiliary metabolic signaling leads to disease transmission to the fetus mediated through the gut–brain axis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive decline in cognitive ability and behavior which eventually disrupts daily activities. AD has no cure and the progression rate varies unlikely. Among various causative factors, heavy metals are reported to be a significant hazard in AD pathogenesis. Metal‐induced neurodegeneration has been focused globally with thorough research to unravel the mechanistic insights in AD. Recently, heavy metals suggested to play an important role in epigenetic alterations which might provide evidential results on AD pathology. Epigenetic modifications are known to play towards novel therapeutic approaches in treating AD. Though many studies focus on epigenetics and heavy metal implications in AD, there is a lack of research on heavy metal influence on epigenetic toxicity in neurological disorders. The current review aims to elucidate the plausible role of cadmium (Cd), iron (Fe), arsenic (As), copper (Cu), and lithium (Li) metals on epigenetic factors and the increase in amyloid beta and tau phosphorylation in AD. Also, the review discusses the common methods of heavy metal detection to implicate in AD pathogenesis. Hence, from this review, we can extend the need for future research on identifying the mechanistic behavior of heavy metals on epigenetic toxicity and to develop diagnostic and therapeutic markers in AD. Abstract

Many physical properties behave differently in disorder systems from the order one. The effects of atomic disorder on the magnetic properties have been explored on Co2TiSi and Co2TiAl full Heusler alloys. Co2TiSi crystallizes in an ordered L21 crystal symmetry, and Co2TiAl mainly possesses a B2 structure. The B2 disorder affects not only the magnetic ordering but also the saturation magnetization, causing the deviation from the Slater-Pauling prediction for Co2TiAl. The critical exponents of the magnetic phase transition have been analyzed by employing different techniques like, the Arrott plot, Kouvel–Fisher plot, critical isotherm analysis, scaling magnetic behavior, and magnetocaloric analysis as well. The calculated critical exponents are close to the mean field theory which implies long-range ferromagnetic ordering in Co2TiSi. However, the exchange interaction in Co2TiAl deviates from the long-range mean field theory. This may be due to the magnetic contribution of the B2-disordered phase. In addition to the magnetic ordering, the magnetocaloric analysis provides the applicability of Co2TiSi alloy as a low-cost, hysteresis-free magnetic refrigerant with a large working temperature near room temperature.
