It is sometimes difficult if not impossible for the physician and roentgenologist to differentiate shadows appearing on an x-ray film when viewed in the anteroposterior, postero-anterior or lateral aspects. Especially is this difficulty made manifest in depressed fractures of the skull or when foreign bodies are in apposition over or into an organ or are embedded within the bony structure or contiguous tissue, because all the images are flat as viewed in the picture and more or less merged with one another. It is intended to show, by the illustration here presented, a simple, cheap, but effective, method for reducing the temperature and collecting dust in sick-rooms, crowded factory workshops, tenement houses, etc., during the summer in large cities, which may also be adapted to residences in tropical countries. Various methods have been in vogue for cooling purposes in large buildings by the use of ammonia and brine coils, but they are very expensive to instal, often costing thousands of dollars, and are heavy and cumbersome. There are other possible objections to be urged against the refrigerator method. For instance, all windows in the rooms must be kept closed, and for this reason, in the subtraction of moisture from the atmosphere, there is a possibility that with the condensation of the aqueous vapor in the form of frost on the coils other necessary normal constituents of the atmosphere are extracted and withdrawn at the same time. Too great a chill may be produced in contrast to the hot weather and high temperature elsewhere existing outside the building in which the ammonia system has been installed, with, of course, disastrous results, so far as health is concerned, to employees or occupants of the building on emerging into the heated atmosphere from the cooler air, or the rapid cooling of a perspiring body on sudden, incautious entrance into a chilled room.

Detached and attached, inoculated and noninoculated, ozone-injured and noninjured leaves from the lower, middle, and terminal regions of plants of geranium cultivars Enchantress and White Mountain were observed for infection by Botrytis cinerea. Previous exposure to ozone did not appreciably influence the susceptibility of leaves of either geranium cultivar to infection by B. cinerea, unless there was visible ozone injury. Ozone-injured, necrotic tissues on older attached and detached geranium leaves of both cultivars served as infection courts for B. cinerea. 14 references, 1 table.

This protective device I have found very practical and useful in all cases of contusions received at the ends of fingers and toes, as well as after amputations of these members. The accompanying illustrations present a graphic method of regional abdominal markings. The subject was an athletic youth, aged 18, who had had the usual diseases of childhood, was of good habits, and had never suffered from constipation. A physical examination, including a urinalysis, revealed all the organs in a normal condition. The only physical defects were a first degree left flat foot, and a visual deficiency of fifteen twentieths of the left eye. The family history was good. On the back were several dense, pigmented moles of epithelioid structure, which show in the roentgenogram as small, radiolucent spots of various shapes.
