Search

Trajectory similarity search (TSS) is a common operation for spatiotemporal data analysis. However, the existing TSS methods are mainly focused on GPS trajectories produced by moving objects such as vehicles. Further, these corresponding optimization strategies cannot be directly applied in the metro scenario because the metro passenger trajectory is totally different from the GPS trajectory. To fill this gap, we systematically analyze the unique spatiotemporal characteristics of metro passenger trajectories and propose a similarity search solution named PMMTss for the metro system. The core idea of this solution has two key points: first, we design a multi-layer index based on the spatiotemporal feature of metro trajectories, and all points of a trajectory are stored in this index. Second, we design a parallel multi-way merging-based trajectory similar search method, in which the candidate trajectory segments are merged and filtered. We evaluate this solution on a large dataset (Shenzhen Metro data for 3 consecutive months, 6.976 million trajectories with 260 million records). When lengths of input trajectories are 16, 32, and 64, respectively, the corresponding search times are 0.004 s, 0.016 s, and 0.036 s, respectively. Compared to the baseline PPJion+, the query times are reduced by 99.7%, 98.8%, and 97.6%, respectively.

In this study, oleogels were prepared by the emulsion-template method using egg-white protein microgel as a gelator and xanthan gum (XG) as thickener. The physicochemical properties of the emulsion and oleogels were investigated. The adsorption of protein on the surface of the oil droplet reached saturation when the protein microgel concentration reached 2%. The excess protein combined with XG and accumulated on the outer layer of the oleogel, which prevented the emulsion from flocculation, enhanced the oil-holding capacity of the oleogel, and had a positive effect on preventing the oxidation of oil. When the concentration of XG was less than 0.4%, the EWP microgel, combined with the XG, stabilized the emulsion. As the concentration of XG was greater than 0.4%, excessive XG in the emulsion improved the viscosity and mechanical properties of the emulsion to prevent the aggregation of oil droplets. However, the change in XG concentration had no significant effect on the oxidation of the oil.

Invasive species have caused severe impacts on biodiversity and human society. Although the estimation of environmental impacts caused by invasive species has increased in recent years, economic losses associated with biological invasions are only sporadically estimated in space and time. In this study, we synthesized the losses incurred by invasions in Asia, based on the most comprehensive database of economic costs of invasive species worldwide, including 560 cost records for 88 invasive species in 22 countries. We also assessed the differences in economic costs across taxonomic groups, geographical regions and impacted sectors, and further identified the major gaps of current knowledge in Asia. Reported economic costs of biological invasions were estimated between 1965 and 2017, and reached a total of US$ 432.6 billion (2017 value), with dramatic increases in 2000–2002 and in 2004. The highest costs were recorded for terrestrial ectotherms, for species estimated in South Asia, and for species estimated at the country level, and were related to more than one impacted sector. Two taxonomic groups with the highest reported costs were insects and mammals, and two countries with the highest costs were India and China. Non-English data covered all of 12 taxonomic groups, whereas English data only covered six groups, highlighting the importance of considering data from non-English sources to have a more comprehensive estimation of economic costs associated with biological invasions. However, we found that the estimation of economic costs was lacking for most Asian countries and for more than 96% of introduced species in Asia. Further, the estimation is heavily biased towards insects and mammals and is very limited concerning expenditures on invasion management. To optimize the allocation of limited resources, there is an important need to better and more widely study the economic costs of invasive alien species. In this way, improved cost reporting and more collaborations between scientists and stakeholders are needed across Asia.

Nitrogen atom widely exists in many organic molecules and biomacromolecules. Therefore, the formation and transformation of C–N bonds are one of the most attractive topics in organic synthetic chemistry. Although a few works in this area had been reported before 2010, more than 250 papers focus on this field were published thereafter. This paper reviewed recent works on the synthesis of 21 types of frequently-encountered molecules from simple N-containing compounds catalyzed by various transition-metals.

The lack of early renal function recovery among geriatric patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is a commonly observed and acknowledged poor prognostic factor, especially for older adults. However, no reliable prognostic biomarker is available for identifying individuals at risk of renal non-recovery or mortality in older adults. In this prospective observational cohort study, we enrolled critically ill older adults (aged ≥ 60 years) with AKI from the ICU and followed their disease progression. The primary endpoint was renal non-recovery within seven days of follow-up, while the secondary endpoint was the determinants of 30-day mortality after AKI. We assessed the predictive accuracy using receiver operating characteristic curves and performed between-group comparisons using the log-rank test. Among 209 older adults, 117 (56.0%) experienced renal recovery. Multiple regression analysis revealed that urine levels of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) multiplied by insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) ([TIMP-2]*[IGFBP7]), AKI stages 2–3, and the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE II) score were independently associated with renal non-recovery. The regression model incorporating [TIMP-2]*[IGFBP7] demonstrated a fair predictive value (AUC 0.774, p < 0.001), with the optimal threshold set at 0.81 (ng/mL)2/1000. When [TIMP-2]*[IGFBP7] was combined with AKI severity and the APACHE score, the AUC increased to 0.851. In conclusion, urine [TIMP-2]*[IGFBP7] is a reliable biomarker associated with renal non-recovery in critically ill older adults, and its predictive efficacy can be further enhanced when combined with AKI severity and the APACHE score. BackgroundPhysical frailty and cognitive aging have important influences on poor clinical outcomes in older adults. Many studies have investigated the association between frailty and cognitive function, but whether vitamin D mediates the association between frailty and cognitive function is unclear. We explored the mediating role of vitamin D on the cross-sectional association between physical frailty and cognitive function using data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS).MethodsWe analyzed data from 1944 subjects aged 60 years and older from the 2011 CLHLS cohort. Frailty status was identified by the Osteoporotic Fracture Study (SOF) index. The Chinese version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) was used to assess cognitive function. Linear regression models were used to examine the association between frailty, vitamin D, and cognition, adjusted for a range of covariates. Mediation analyses tested the indirect effects of vitamin D on physical frailty and cognitive function.ResultPhysical frailty was negatively associated with vitamin D levels and scores on the MMSE, and vitamin D levels were positively associated with scores on the MMSE. Linear regression analysis showed that physical frailty and serum vitamin D concentration were significant predictors of cognitive function. Importantly, mediation analysis showed that serum vitamin D concentration significantly mediated the relationship between physical frailty and cognitive function.ConclusionThe association between physical frailty and cognitive function appears to be mediated by vitamin D. Future studies should explore whether serum vitamin D concentrations may mediate the association between physical frailty and cognitive decline and whether this mediating role is moderated by other factors.

Addressing the cavitation prevention requirements for a longer service life of the high-speed centrifugal pump in the temperature control system of aerospace, the effect of blade inlet width on cavitation performance is studied on the premise of consistency of impeller outlet diameter D2, impeller outlet width b2, volute inlet diameter D3, pump interface and other structural parameters. Therefore, the corrected coefficient k1 of blade inlet exclusion coefficient is introduced; four groups of centrifugal impellers with inlets of different geometric structures blades are put forward. To begin with, based on the D# pump performance test and Pumplinx simulation, the cavitation performance of high-speed pump with four different groups of impellers is studied under five working conditions of negative inlet pressure (Pj=(−20, −30, −40, −50, −60)kPa) on the premise that energy characteristics agree well with cavitation performance. According to the results, when Pj drops from −50 kPa to −60 kPa, the cavitation perform changes the most significantly. This indicates that the method of twisting the centrifugal impeller of the suspended forward-extended blade shows a significant effect in preventing cavitation performance under such working conditions of high speed and negative pressure. Its application in aerospace power systems can effectively reduce the impact of low pressure in the system and significantly improve the cavitation performance.

IntroductionIn postmenopausal women, vitamin D deficiency (as defined by the circulating level of 25(OH)D being below 20 ng/ml (50 nmol/L)) is a regular occurrence. The effect of vitamin D supplementation on the muscle function of postmenopausal women has been controversial. This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examines and summarizes the effects of vitamin D supplementation on the muscular strength and mobility of postmenopausal women.MethodsRCTs that met the inclusion criteria for this study were identified by searching PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library. Postmenopausal women who were included in the study were exposed to RCTs assessing the effectiveness of vitamin D supplements. Meta-analysis data were extracted by two independent reviewers and screened for methodological quality. RCTs that did not meet the minimum requirement for assessment were excluded. In the meta-analysis, the effect size (weighted mean differences, WMD) of handgrip strength (HGS) and timed-up and go test (TUG) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) was obtained to compare reported results across the included RCTs.ResultsA total of 19 trials were included in this systematic review, among which 13 trials were eligible for the meta-analysis. In the 13 included studies, supplementing with vitamin D produced a weighted mean difference of 0.876 kg (95% CI = 0.180 to 1.571, P = 0.014, I2 = 68.5%) for HGS, a measurement of muscle strength. However, an insignificant decrease of 0.044 s was observed after analyzing the TUG (95% CI = -0.979 to 0.892, P = 0.927, I2 = 95%). According to subgroup analysis, vitamin D supplementation increased HGS in patients over the age of 60 (P = 0.001), in those without calcium supplementation (P = 0.032), and in those whose baseline vitamin D level was greater than 75 nmol/L (30 ng/ml) (P = 0.003).ConclusionsTaking into account the studies in this systematic review, vitamin D supplementation improved muscle strength in postmenopausal women. However, an insignificant result was demonstrated in terms of mobility after vitamin D supplementation.

PurposeTo identify novel genetic causes of febrile seizures (FS) and epilepsy with febrile seizures plus (EFS+).MethodsWe performed whole-exome sequencing in a cohort of 32 families, in which at least two individuals were affected by FS or EFS+. The probands, their parents, and available family members were recruited to ascertain whether the genetic variants were co-segregation. Genes with repetitively identified variants with segregations were selected for further studies to define the gene-disease association.ResultsWe identified two heterozygous ATP6V0C mutations (c.64G > A/p.Ala22Thr and c.361_373del/p.Thr121Profs*7) in two unrelated families with six individuals affected by FS or EFS+. The missense mutation was located in the proteolipid c-ring that cooperated with a-subunit forming the hemichannel for proton transferring. It also affected the hydrogen bonds with surround residues and the protein stability, implying a damaging effect. The frameshift mutation resulted in a loss of function by yielding a premature termination of 28 residues at the C-terminus of the protein. The frequencies of ATP6V0C mutations identified in this cohort were significantly higher than that in the control populations. All the six affected individuals suffered from their first FS at the age of 7–8 months. The two probands later manifested afebrile seizures including myoclonic seizures that responded well to lamotrigine. They all displayed favorable outcomes without intellectual or developmental abnormalities, although afebrile seizures or frequent seizures occurred.ConclusionThis study suggests that ATP6V0C is potentially a candidate pathogenic gene of FS and EFS+. Screening for ATP6V0C mutations would help differentiating patients with Dravet syndrome caused by SCN1A mutations, which presented similar clinical manifestation but different responses to antiepileptic treatment.

Prefabricated concrete hollow slab bridges are widely used in short- and medium-span highway bridges in China due to the advantages of high production quality, installation convenience, and low construction cost. Field investigation shows that severe hinge joint damage occurred during the service life, and mechanical performance of the bridges also deteriorated with the weakened joints. It is important to accurately evaluate the performance of hollow slab bridges to ensure the safety of the highway system. In this paper, transverse connectivity and durability of the concrete hollow slab bridges are investigated in a field test using the surface damage and neural networks. Hollow slab bridges in the Wu-He highway system were taken as the background bridge. Surface damage was visually checked and statistically analyzed. Static load test was conducted to evaluate the transverse connectivity of the hinge joints based on the girder responses. The hollow slab bridges were then demolished, and a total of 75 concrete girder segments were cut off. Durability of the girders was evaluated based on the conditions of concrete and rebars, and the analytic hierarchy process along with the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method was employed. Results showed that there were two main types of the defects in the hollow slab bridges, i.e., the transverse cracks on the bottom plates of the girders and the longitudinal cracks in the hinge joints. The distribution of the deflection of each girder was non-uniform due to the weakening of the transverse connectivity, and the girders in the background bridges were within the moderate deterioration condition after 25 years’ service life. An evaluation method of the hollow slab girders using the neural networks and surface damage was verified by the field test data. The maximum crack width at different locations of the bridges was used in the input layer of the neural network, and the hinge joint damage or the durability was considered as the output results. The prediction error of the method in the test set was within 15.0% for the hinge joint damage and within 40% for the durability result of the girder, indicating the feasibility of the evaluation method.

This study used a cross-sectional study design to investigate whether the mindfulness trait was a protective factor against problematic smartphone use (PSPU) of early adolescents, and whether negative affectivity and fear of missing out (FoMO) mediated this relationship. The study selected a sample of middle school students (N = 517, 46.03% males, Mage = 13.81, SD = 1.40) in China. The results of the structural equation modelling indicated that (a) mindfulness significantly and negatively predicted PSPU, (b) FoMO played a mediating role between mindfulness and PSPU, (c) negative affectivity (including depression and anxiety) played a mediating role between mindfulness and PSPU, but loneliness did not, and (d) negative affectivity and FoMO played a chain-mediated role, and depression, anxiety, and loneliness played a chain-mediated role with FoMO between mindfulness and PSPU. We discuss the possibility that high levels of mindfulness in early adolescents may reduce the short-term effects of problematic smartphone use by reducing negative emotions and FoMO and relate our results to an emphasis on the role of enhanced mindfulness in long-term internal self-regulation and well-being. Findings have implications for individuals and schools for PSPU prevention and intervention.

Nowadays, the click reaction of azides with alkynes has evolved rapidly and become one of the most efficient methods to synthesize 1,2,3-triazoles, which are an important class of N-containing heterocycles. While the 1,4-selective click reaction of azides with alkynes is well established to synthesize 1,4-substituted 1,2,3-triazoles, the corresponding 1,5-selective click reaction for the generation of 1,5-substituted-1,2,3-triazoles is much less explored, and there is no systematic review for the 1,5-selective click reaction. This timely review summarizes the discovery and development of 1,5-selective click reactions of azides with alkynes for the synthesis of 1,5-substituted 1,2,3-triazoles. The 1,5-selective click reactions will be divided into three types according to the critical reactive intermediates: metallacyclic intermediates, acetylide intermediate, and formal 1,5-selective azide-alkyne cycloaddition. The related mechanistic studies will also be involved in this review.

Chiral 1,2-bis(2,5-diphenylphospholano)ethane (Ph-BPE) is a class of optimal organic bisphosphine ligands with C2-symmetry. Ph-BPE with its excellent catalytic performance in asymmetric synthesis has attracted much attention of chemists with increasing popularity and is growing into one of the most commonly used organophosphorus ligands, especially in asymmetric catalysis. Over two hundred examples have been reported since 2012. This review presents how Ph-BPE is utilized in asymmetric synthesis and how powerful it is as a chiral ligand or even a catalyst in a wide range of reactions including applications in the total synthesis of bioactive molecules. The construction of secondary building units (SBUs) in versatile metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) represents a promising method for developing multi‐functional materials, especially for improving their sensitizing ability. Herein, we developed a dual small molecules auxiliary strategy to construct a high‐nuclear transition‐metal‐based UiO‐architecture Co16‐MOF‐BDC with visible‐light‐absorbing capacity. Remarkably, the N3− molecule in hexadecameric cobalt azide SBU offers novel modification sites to precise bonding of strong visible‐light‐absorbing chromophores via click reaction. The resulting Bodipy@Co16‐MOF‐BDC exhibits extremely high performance for oxidative coupling benzylamine (~100 % yield) via both energy and electron transfer processes, which is much superior to that of Co16‐MOF‐BDC (31.5 %) and Carboxyl @Co16‐MOF‐BDC (37.5 %). Systematic investigations reveal that the advantages of Bodipy@Co16‐MOF‐BDC in dual light‐absorbing channels, robust bonding between Bodipy/Co16 clusters and efficient electron‐hole separation can greatly boost photosynthesis. This work provides an ideal molecular platform for synergy between photosensitizing MOFs and chromophores by constructing high‐nuclear transition‐metal‐based SBUs with surface‐modifiable small molecules. Direct synthesis of organophosphorus compounds from white phosphorus represents a significant but challenging subject, especially in the context of ongoing efforts to comprehensively improve the phosphorus-derived chemical industry driven by sustainability and safety concerns. China is the world's largest producer of white phosphorus, creating a significant demand for the green transformation of this crucial feedstock. This review provides an overview of advancements in white phosphorus activation by Chinese research teams, focusing on the direct construction of P‒C/N/O/S/M bonds from white phosphorus. Additionally, we offer some insights into prospective directions for the activation and transformation of white phosphorus in the future. In this pioneering study for identifying atomic scale magnetic moment, a single hydrogen atom chemisorbed on pristine graphene exhibits distinct spin polarization. Using first-principles calculations and analyses, we demonstrate that the binding between a H adsorbate and a C substrate is substantially enhanced via compensated B-N pairs embedded into graphene. Surprisingly, the interaction can be further enhanced via non-compensated B-N pair doping. Our established prototype of orbital intercoupling between H 1s and hybridized pz of gapped band edges gives an insight into the enhancing mechanism. For compensated B-N doping, the conduction band minimum (CBM) is pushed upward, which induces stronger interaction between the H 1s and hybridized pz orbitals of the CBM. For non-compensated B-N doping, the orbital interaction occurs between H 1s and hybridized pz orbitals of valence band maximum, thus further lowering the resulting bonding energy due to the enlarged gap. This significantly enhanced interaction between H and C atoms agrees well with the results of charge localization at the gapped band edges. More importantly, the corresponding magnetic moments can be well maintained or even enhanced in both doping; here, one more H atom is needed for non-compensated doping, where its electron occupies the empty CBM. Our findings might provide an effective and practical way to enhance the energetic and magnetic stability of atomic scale magnetic moment on graphene and extensively expand the conception of noncompensated doping. Abstract Background Mitochondrial encephalomyopathy caused by bi-allelic deleterious variants in TARS2 is rare. To date, only two pedigrees were reported in the literature and the connection between the gene and disease needs further study. Case presentation We report one infant who presented with limb hypertonia, epilepsy, developmental delay, and increased serum lactate from a non-consanguineous Chinese family. Whole-genome sequencing was performed to help to underlie the cause. We identified compound heterozygous variants c.470C > G, p.Thr157Arg and c.2143G > A, p.Glu715Lys in TARS2 and the variants were confirmed by Sanger sequencing. The patient was diagnosed with combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency 21 according to the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) database based on the clinical data and the deleterious effect of the two variants in TARS2 predicted by in silico tools. Conclusions We presented one case diagnosed with combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency 21 based on clinical characteristics and genetic analysis. This is the first case in China and the fourth case in the world based on our document retrieval. This study facilitates the understanding of combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency disease and demonstrates that the next-generation sequencing has a high potential to study inherited disease with high phenotypic heterogeneity and genetic heterogeneity including mitochondrial diseases such as combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency.

Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) is a severe epileptic encephalopathy, which may arise from genetic etiologies. TANC2 mutation may cause the neurodevelopmental disorders and epilepsy such as LGS. By reprogramming with SOX2, KLF4, c-MYC and OCT3/4, we generated an induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) collected from a two-year-old Chinese boy individual to be used as a disease model with TANC2 mutation. By fully examination, the resulting iPSCs expressed pluripotency-associated stem cell markers, maintained the normal karyotype and proliferative potential for three-germ layer differentiation.

Purpose: The purpose of this literature review was to investigate how cooperative learning (CL) has been conceptualized and implemented in Chinese physical education (PE). CL is one of the most influential and widespread areas of theory, research, and practice in western education. With the promotion of Chinese government policies, CL has become a popular field of research and was widely used as a pedagogical practice in Chinese. Design/Approach/Methods: Shulruf’s five methodological steps were utilized as the process of screening and selecting relevant studies. Inductive analysis and constant comparison were conducted for analyzing the chosen literature. Findings: The analytic induction revealed four key themes: (a) historical development, (b) policy influence, (c) conceptualization of CL, and (d) implementation of CL. We found that the conceptualization of CL in Chinese PE was ambiguous, and the implementation of CL was predominantly documented by quantitative research methods. In addition, few studies were conducted at the elementary school level. Originality/Value: This is a comprehensive literature review on CL in Chinese PE. Findings and recommendations in this article will be beneficial for policymakers, scholars, and PE teachers to better understand and promote CL in China.
