Applying an accurate parametric prediction model to identify abnormal or false pressurizer water levels (PWLs) is critical to the safe operation of marine pressurized water reactors (PWRs). Recently, deep-learning-based models have proved to be a powerful feature extractor to perform high-accuracy prediction. However, the effectiveness of models still suffers from two issues in PWL prediction: the correlations shifting over time between PWL and other feature parameters, and the example imbalance between fluctuation examples (minority) and stable examples (majority). To address these problems, we propose a cost-sensitive mechanism to facilitate the model to learn the feature representation of later examples and fluctuation examples. By weighting the standard mean square error loss with a cost-sensitive factor, we develop a Cost-Sensitive Long Short-Term Memory (CSLSTM) model to predict the PWL of PWRs. The overall performance of the CSLSTM is assessed by a variety of evaluation metrics with the experimental data collected from a marine PWR simulator. The comparisons with the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model and the Support Vector Regression (SVR) model demonstrate the effectiveness of the CSLSTM.

Abstract Background Sleep problems are widespread among college students around the globe, especially in China. This study was designed to investigate the prevalence of poor sleep quality and identify associated factors among college students in Jilin Province, China. Methods A total of 6284 participants were completely collected by stratified cluster sampling in 2016. Information on basic demographics, lifestyles, social and family support, and subjective sleep quality was collected by questionnaire. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) is a self-administered questionnaire used to assess sleep for one month. Results 1951 (31.0%) participants were classified into poor sleep quality group, as defined by a PSQI score > 5. Males scored significantly higher than females on sleep duration and use of sleep medication, while females scored significantly higher than males on PSQI total and sleep disturbances. The results of the multivariate logistic regression show the following factors to be significant predictors of poor sleep quality: freshman (OR = 1.523, 95% CI: 1.168–1.987), alcohol use (OR = 1.634, 1.425–1.874), gambling behaviors (OR = 1.167, 95% CI: 1.005–1.356), exercised for more than 30 min a week on less than one day (OR = 1.234, 95% CI: 1.016–1.498), the feelings of satisfied with parental love (OR = 1.849, 95% CI: 1.244–2.749), and harmonious/neutral relationship with classmates (OR = 2.206, 95% CI: 1.312–3.708; OR = 1.700, 95% CI: 1.414–2.045),. No study pressure of this academic year (OR = 0.210, 95% CI: 0.159–0.276), no truancy in the past month (OR = 0.510, 95% CI: 0.354–0.735), never had self-injurious behaviors (OR = 0.413, 95% CI: 0.245–0.698), very harmonious family relationship (OR = 0.377, 95% CI: 0.219–0.650), frequent communication with parents (OR = 0.524, 95% CI: 0.312–0.880), the feelings of satisfied with maternal love (OR = 0.432, 95% CI: 0.257–0.725), and frequent excursions to gymnasium (OR = 0.770, 95% CI: 0.659–0.899) were the protective factors. Conclusions The implication of the present study may be that college students must be made aware of the consequences of inadequate sleep quality and risk factors could be improved if students tried to change their behavior and subjective consciousness.

Abstract Background The torsion of normal adnexa is rare during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester. Nonspecific symptoms and signs as well as the limitations of ultrasound (US) make the diagnosis difficult, resulting in the loss of adnexa and fetal compromise. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of the torsion of normal adnexa are not classically described during pregnancy and only reported in a few cases. We find some different MRI features of the torsion of normal adnexa in late pregnancy and its diagnosis and treatment values are discussed in our report. Case presentation A 27-year-old woman at 31 + 5 weeks’ gestation presented to the emergency department with a three-day history of the left lower abdominal pain. US discovered a mass of 87 × 61 mm in the left abdomen, but did not show whether the mass originated from the left ovary or the uterus. MRI showed the left ovary was increased in size to 82 × 42 × 85 mm with peripheral follicles. On fat-suppressed T2-weighted images, the signal intensity of the lesion was significantly decreased compared with the right ovary. The adjacent fallopian tube was found to be thickened. The radiologists diagnosed ovary infarction secondary to adnexal torsion. With the provisional diagnosis of adnexal torsion, the patient was taken to surgery. The left adnexal torsion was found during surgery. There was extensive hemorrhage and necrosis, so a left salpingo-oophorectomy was performed. The histopathology confirmed an extensively hemorrhagic fallopian tube and ovary with partial necrosis. Conclusion We believe MRI is helpful where US is indeterminate in diagnosis of the torsion of normal adnexa in advanced pregnancy. We found that aside from hyperintensity on fat-saturated T1-weighted images, the low signal intensity on T2-weighted images can also reflect adnexal hemorrhage in conjunction with the torsion of normal adnexa.

PtCu/C membrane catalysts were prepared by ion beam sputtering (IBS) with moving bimetallic Pt and Cu targets. The surface structure of the catalyst with large specific surface area was obtained by surface etching of the gradient membrane with 1mol/L HNO3. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis show that the PtCu replacement solid solution alloy is formed on the surface of the composite membrane electrode, the original Pt lattice is contracted and the spacing between the crystal planes is narrowed. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) RTEM-STEM measurements show that the surface of the post-processed samples has multi-peak structure and trench-pore structure. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) were used to test the electrochemical hydrogen evolution performance of the samples. The results show that the dealloying of gradient materials can effectively reduce the platinum loading and improve the exchange current density of electrochemical hydrogen evolution. The Pt loading of the post-treatment sample is decreased by 20.29%, the exchange current density of electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaches 0.004217A/cm2, and the catalytic performance is improved by 20.58%.

Corn straw incorporation in soil has been regarded as an environment-friendly approach for straw utilization. However, straw incorporation has been a challenge under a cold and dry climate due to slow decomposition. This field study was to use a novel approach to incorporate corn straw into the soil during the fall season with a plastic film cover in an effort to enhance the straw degradation, soil water use efficiency, and corn growth and yield. Two-year field experiments were conducted in northeast China to investigate the effects of four treatments on soil properties and corn growth: (1) straw incorporation with film cover, (2) straw incorporation only, (3) film cover only, and (4) control. Soils and corn plants were collected during the growing season and analyzed for soil temperature and moisture, straw degradation, corn biomass, grain yield, and water use efficiency. Results indicated that straw incorporation with film cover increased grain yield by 53% as compared to straw incorporation only and by 102% to control. The straw decomposition under film cover was 20% faster, significantly higher than that of the straw incorporation treatment. In all cases, soil water content before planting, corn water uptake, and corn water use efficiency under straw incorporation with film cover were significantly higher than straw incorporation and control. Surface film cover resulted in 10-day earlier corn tasseling in compared to treatments without film cover. This field study demonstrated that straw incorporation with film cover would enhance straw degradation in soil, improve soil properties, and increase corn yield and water use efficiency, which could be potentially used as a sustainable soil management practice in northeast China.

Current diagnostic criteria for left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC) may be poorly related to adverse prognosis. Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) is a predictor of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), but risk stratification of LGE in patients with LVNC remains unclear. We retrospectively analyzed the clinical and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) data of 75 patients from three institutes and examined the correlation between different LGE types and MACE based on the extent, pattern (including a specific ring-like pattern), and locations of LGE in LVNC. A total of 51 patients (68%) presented LGE. A specific ring-like pattern was observed in 9 (12%). MACE occurred in 29 (38.7%) at 4.3 years of follow-up (interquartile range: 2.1–5.7 years). The adjusted hazard ratio (HR) for patients with ring-like LGE were 6.10 (95% CI, 1.39–26.75, p < 0.05). Free-wall or mid-wall LGE was associated with an increased risk of MACE after adjustment (HR 2.85, 95% CI, 1.31–6.21; HR 4.35, 95% CI, 1.23–15.37, respectively, p < 0.05). The risk of MACE in LVNC significantly increased when the LGE extent was greater than 7.5% and ring-like, multiple segments, and free-wall LGE were associated with MACE. These results suggest the value of LGE risk stratification in patients with LVNC.

With the rapid development of communication and the rise of new network services, the resource provisioning of the optical access network becomes more significant than before, especially under the multiple-domain networking situation with the requirement of cross-domain service support. For the sake of high resource utilization to establish more connections of services, this paper proposes a cross-domain resource allocation (CDRA) scheme in a software-defined optical access network to meet the huge bandwidth supporting the requirement of new network services. To achieve this purpose, the global evaluation strategy with the consideration of the traffic situation in each node in its domain is presented in the CDRA scheme, and its interaction process makes decisions for comprehensive optimal resource allocation by integrating radio resources and optical aggregation resources of the entire access network. Furthermore, to manage the resources among multiple domains and support the interaction process of the CDRA scheme, a cross-domain unified control architecture is firstly upgraded by using software-defined networking technology, which includes the further design of CDRA function modules with the global evaluation strategy. The simulation results verify the feasibility of the upgraded architecture and further show that the proposed CDRA scheme can effectively decrease the blocking probability with a 29.35% improvement, balance the network load, and enhance the utilization of network resources of the network.

Background Schizophrenia is a severely multifactorial neuropsychiatric disorder, and the majority of cases are due to genetic variations. In this study, we evaluated the genetic association between the C-Maf-inducing protein (CMIP) gene and schizophrenia in the Han Chinese population. Methods In this case-control study, 761 schizophrenia patients and 775 healthy controls were recruited. Tag single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; rs12925980, rs2287112, rs3751859 and rs77700579) from the CMIP gene were genotyped via matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry. We used logistic regression to estimate the associations between the genotypes/alleles of each SNP and schizophrenia in males and females, respectively. The in-depth link between CMIP and schizophrenia was explored through linkage disequilibrium (LD) and further haplotype analyses. False discovery rate correction was utilized to control for Type I errors caused by multiple comparisons. Results There was a significant difference in rs287112 allele frequencies between female schizophrenia patients and healthy controls after adjusting for multiple comparisons (χ2 = 12.296, Padj = 0.008). Females carrying minor allele G had 4.445 times higher risk of schizophrenia compared with people who carried the T allele (OR = 4.445, 95% CI [1.788–11.046]). Linkage-disequilibrium was not observed in the subjects, and people with haplotype TTGT of rs12925980–rs2287112–rs3751859–rs77700579 had a lower risk of schizophrenia (OR = 0.42, 95% CI [0.19–0.94]) when compared with CTGA haplotypes. However, the association did not survive false discovery rate correction. Conclusion This study identified a potential CMIP variant that may confer schizophrenia risk in the female Han Chinese population.

Introduction: Asphyxia is an emergent condition in neonates that may influence the function of the nervous system. Research has shown that intestinal microbiota is very important for neurodevelopment. Studies regarding the association between gut microbiota and neurodevelopment outcome in asphyxiated newborns remain scarce.Objective: To study the microbial characteristics of asphyxiated neonates within 1 week of life and to investigate their relationship with neural development at 6 months.Methods: The feces produced on days 1, 3, and 5, and the clinical data of full-term neonates with asphyxia and without asphyxia, delivered from March 2019 to October 2020 at Peking University First Hospital, were collected. We used 16S ribosomal deoxyribonucleic acid amplicon sequencing to detect the intestinal microbiota of asphyxiated neonates and neonates in the control group. We followed up asphyxiated neonates for 6 months and used the Ages and Stages Questionnaires-3 (ASQ-3) to evaluate their development.Results: A total of 45 neonates were enrolled in the study group and 32 were enrolled in the control group. On day 1, the diversity and richness of the microflora of the study group were more than those of the control group. Non-metric multidimensional scaling analysis showed significant differences in the microbiota of the two groups on days 1, 3, and 5. At the phylum level, the main microflora of the two groups were not different. At the genus level, the study group had increased relative abundance of Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1, Lachnoclostridium, Fusicatenibacter, etc. on day 1. On day 3, the relative abundance of Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1, Fusicatenibacter, etc. was still greater than that of the control group, and the relative abundance of Staphylococcus was less than that of the control group. On day 5, the relative abundance of Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1 and Lachnoclostridium was still higher than that of the control group, and the relative abundance of Dubosiella in the study group was significantly increased. At the species level, on day 3, the relative abundance of Staphylococcus caprae in the study group was less than that in the control group. Linear discriminant analysis effect size showed that the microbiota of the study group mainly consisted of Lachnospiraceae and Clostridia on day 1 and Clostridia on day 3. In the control group, Staphylococcus was the dominant bacterium on day 3. Neonates in the study group were followed up for 6 months, and the communication score of ASQ-3 was negatively correlated with the relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae and Clostridia on day 1.Conclusion: The diversity and richness of the microbiota of asphyxiated neonates on the first day of life were significantly increased and mainly consisted of pathogenic flora. Lachnospiraceae and Clostridia found in neonates with asphyxia on day 1 of life may be related to neural development at 6 months.

Background: Nursing students who suffer from co-occurring anxiety experience added difficulties when communicating and interacting with others in a healthy, positive, and meaningful way. Previous studies have found strong positive correlations between Internet addiction (IA) and anxiety, suggesting that nursing students who report severe IA are susceptible to debilitating anxiety as well. To date, however, network analysis (NA) studies exploring the nature of association between individual symptoms of IA and anxiety have not been published.Objective: This study examined associations between symptoms of IA and anxiety among nursing students using network analysis.Methods: IA and anxiety symptoms were assessed using the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Screener (GAD-7), respectively. The structure of IA and anxiety symptoms was characterized using “Strength” as a centrality index in the symptom network. Network stability was tested using a case-dropping bootstrap procedure and a Network Comparison Test (NCT) was conducted to examine whether network characteristics differed on the basis of gender and by region of residence.Results: A total of 1,070 nursing students participated in the study. Network analysis showed that IAT nodes, “Academic decline due to Internet use,” “Depressed/moody/nervous only while being off-line,” “School grades suffer due to Internet use,” and “Others complain about your time spent online” were the most influential symptoms in the IA-anxiety network model. Gender and urban/rural residence did not significantly influence the overall network structure.Conclusion: Several influential individual symptoms including Academic declines due to Internet use, Depressed/moody/nervous only while being off-line, School grades suffering due to Internet use and Others complain about one's time spent online emerged as potential targets for clinical interventions to reduce co-occurring IA and anxiety. Additionally, the overall network structure provides a data-based hypothesis for explaining potential mechanisms that account for comorbid IA and anxiety.

Over the past five years, oxygen-based nanocarriers (NCs) to boost anti-tumor therapy attracted tremendous attention from basic research and clinical practice. Indeed, tumor hypoxia, caused by elevated proliferative activity and dysfunctional vasculature, is directly responsible for the less effectiveness or ineffective of many conventional therapeutic modalities. Undeniably, oxygen-generating NCs and oxygen-carrying NCs can increase oxygen concentration in the hypoxic area of tumors and have also been shown to have the ability to decrease the expression of drug efflux pumps (e.g., P-gp); to increase uptake by tumor cells; to facilitate the generation of cytotoxic reactive oxide species (ROS); and to evoke systematic anti-tumor immune responses. However, there are still many challenges and limitations that need to be further improved. In this review, we first discussed the mechanisms of tumor hypoxia and how it severely restricts the therapeutic efficacy of clinical treatments. Then an up-to-date account of recent progress in the fabrications of oxygen-generating NCs and oxygen-carrying NCs are systematically introduced. The improved physicochemical and surface properties of hypoxia alleviating NCs for increasing the targeting ability to hypoxic cells are also elaborated with special attention to the latest nano-technologies. Finally, the future directions of these NCs, especially towards clinical translation, are proposed. Therefore, we expect to provide some valued enlightenments and proposals in engineering more effective oxygen-based NCs in this promising field in this comprehensive overview.

Background: As COVID-19 vaccination programs are being implemented widely, it is important to examine the attitudes of adolescents toward the COVID-19 vaccine and its uptake. The aim of this study was to examine the acceptance of and attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccines, and their associated factors among adolescents in China.Methods: This was a cross-sectional, observational study conducted between November 27, 2020 and March 12, 2021 using snowball sampling method. Basic sociodemographic characteristics, health-related information, severity of depressive and anxiety symptoms, and attitudes and behavior toward COVID-19 vaccines were assessed.Results: Overall, 1,057 adolescents participated in this study, yielding a response rate of 89.3%. There were 799 (75.59%) [95% Confidence Interval (CI) 73.00–78.18%] adolescents who would accept future COVID-19 vaccination. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that adolescents who previously heard about COVID-19 vaccines (P = 0.001, odds ratio (OR) = 1.90, 95%CI:1.32–2.74), who thought that COVID-19 vaccines could protect them from COVID-19 infection (P = 0.002, OR = 2.93, 95%CI: 1.49–5.70), and those who encouraged their family members and friends to get vaccinated (P < 0.001, OR = 12.19, 95%CI: 6.78–21.92) and who believed that vaccines are safe (P = 0.012, OR = 3.94, 95%CI: 1.36–11.44) were more likely to accept future COVID-19 vaccination. In addition, younger adolescents (P = 0.003, OR = 0.93, 95%CI: 0.89–0.98) were more likely to accept future COVID-19 vaccines than older adolescents.Conclusions: In conclusion, Chinese adolescents appeared to have positive attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccines. It is important to increase public confidence and knowledge regarding the efficacy and safety of COVID-19 vaccines to maximize the success of vaccination programs.

Background: To investigate the efficacy and safety of biologics in the perioperative management of severe aortic valve regurgitation (AR) caused by Behçet syndrome (BS). Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 20 patients with severe AR caused by BS who were all treated with biologics during the perioperative period of cardiac surgeries in our center between February 2016 and October 2020. Results: A total of 20 patients with severe AR were enrolled, including 19 males and 1 female, with a mean age of 39.1 ± 8.8 years and a median course of 8 [interquartile range (IQR) 5.25–10.00] years. Before biologic administration, 92.9% of the patients who underwent aortic valve replacement had failed conventional therapy and developed postoperative paravalvular leakage (PVL) at a median interval of 4 months. Biologics were administered with background glucocorticoids (GCs) and immunosuppressants during the perioperative period for 22 aortic valve surgeries, including preoperatively with a median interval of 3.5 (IQR 2.75–4.25) months in 13 cases and within 3 months postoperatively in 9 cases. After a median follow up of 21 (IQR 15–32) months, 2 out of 13 cases (15.4%) preoperatively, and 1 out of 9 cases (11.1%) postoperatively treated with biologics developed PVL, and the rest were event free. The sudden outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused a huge impact on the Chinese residents' health and economic level. In the pandemic background, the country and its institutions have introduced pandemic-related insurance to stabilize the national situation. At this stage, insurance has played an increasingly important role in social life. With the popularization of insurance, the idea of buying insurance to avoid risk has gradually become popular among people. Among them, the New Rural Cooperative Medical System (NRCMS) has been farmers' common choice. The NRCMS, a mutual aid system created by farmers spontaneously in the country, plays a great role in guaranteeing farmers access to basic health services, alleviating poverty caused by disease and returning to poverty due to disease, and promoting poverty alleviation and rural revitalization. Given this backdrop, we study the efficiency of the NRCMS that can effectively promote poverty alleviation and rural revitalization and ensure the people's happy life. Implementing the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), we find that technological progress is one of the main factors influencing the efficiency of the NRCMS. Therefore, it is important to improve the technology for providing the efficiency of the NRCMS and promoting the happiness of the society.

Background: Health professionals including nurses have experienced heavy workload and great physical and mental health challenges during the coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic, which may affect nursing students' career choices. This study examined the changes in nursing students' career choices after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in China.Methods: This study was conducted in five University nursing schools in China between September 14, 2020 and October 7, 2020. Career choices before and after the COVID-19 pandemic were collected and analyzed.Results: In total, 1,070 nursing students participated in the study. The reported choice of nursing as future career increased from 50.9% [95% confidence interval (CI): 47.9–53.9%] before the COVID-19 pandemic to 62.7% (95%CI: 59.8–65.6%) after the onset of COVID-19 pandemic. Students who chose nursing as their future career following the COVID-19 outbreak had less severe depression and anxiety compared to those who did not choose nursing, but the associations of depression and anxiety with career choice disappeared in multivariable analyses. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that male gender [odds ratio (OR) = 0.68, 95% CI: 0.50–0.91], rural residence (OR = 1.53, 95%CI: 1.17–2.00), fourth year students (OR = 0.50, 95%CI: 0.35–0.72), negative experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic (OR = 0.66, 95%CI: 0.47–0.92), and good health (OR = 4.6, 95%CI: 1.78–11.87) were significantly associated with the choice of nursing as future career after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic appeared to have a positive influence on the career choice of nursing among Chinese nursing students.

Background Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, all teaching activities in nursing schools were suspended in China, and many nursing students were summoned to work in hospitals to compensate for the shortage of manpower. This study examined the prevalence of fatigue and its association with quality of life (QOL) among nursing students during the post-COVID-19 era in China. Methods This was a multicenter, cross-sectional study. Nursing students in five Chinese universities were invited to participate. Fatigue, depressive and anxiety symptoms, pain and QOL were measured using standardized instruments. Results A total of 1,070 nursing students participated. The prevalence of fatigue was 67.3% (95% CI [64.4–70.0]). Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that male gender (P = 0.003, OR = 1.73, 95% CI [1.20–2.49]), and being a senior nursing student (second year: OR = 2.20, 95% CI [1.46–3.33], P < 0.001; third year: OR = 3.53, 95% CI [2.31–5.41], P < 0.001; and fourth year OR = 3.59, 95% CI [2.39–5.40], P < 0.001) were significantly associated with more severe fatigue. In addition, moderate economic loss during the COVID-19 pandemic (OR = 1.48, 95% CI [1.08–3.33], P < 0.015; compared to low loss), participants with more severe depressive (OR = 1.48, 95% CI [1.22–1.78], P < 0.001) and anxiety symptoms (OR = 1.12, 95% CI [1.05–1.20], P = 0.001), and more severe pain (OR = 1.67, 95%CI [1.46–1.91], P < 0.001) were significantly associated with reported more severe fatigue. After controlling for covariates, nursing students with fatigue had a lower overall QOL score compared to those without (F(1, 1070) = 31.4, P < 0.001). Conclusion Fatigue was common among nursing students in the post-COVID-19 era. Considering the negative impact of fatigue on QOL and daily functioning, routine physical and mental health screening should be conducted for nursing students. Effective stress-reduction measures should be enforced to assist this subpopulation to combat fatigue and restore optimal health.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a prevalent diabetes mellitus (Feldman et al., 2017) complication and the primary reason for amputation. Meanwhile, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a type of regulatory non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) that broadly participate in DPN development. However, the correlation of lncRNA X-inactive specific transcript (XIST) with DPN remains unclear. In this study, we were interested in the role of XIST in the modulation of DPN progression. Significantly, our data showed that the expression of XIST and sirtuin1 (SIRT1) was inhibited, and the expression of microRNA-30d-5p (miR-30d-5p) was enhanced in the trigeminal sensory neurons of the diabetic mice compared with the normal mice. The levels of LC3II and Beclin-1 were inhibited in the diabetic mice. The treatment of high glucose (HG) reduced the XIST expression in Schwann cells. The apoptosis of Schwann cells was enhanced in the HG-treated cells, but the overexpression of XIST could block the effect in the cells. Moreover, the levels of LC3II and Beclin-1 were reduced in the HG-treated Schwann cells, while the overexpression of XIST was able to reverse this effect. The HG treatment promoted the production of oxidative stress, while the XIST overexpression could attenuate this result in the Schwann cells. Mechanically, XIST was able to sponge miR-30d-5p and miR-30d-5p-targeted SIRT1 in the Schwann cells. MiR-30d-5p inhibited autophagy and promoted oxidative stress in the HG-treated Schwann cells, and SIRT1 presented a reversed effect. MiR-30d-5p mimic or SIRT1 depletion could reverse XIST overexpression-mediated apoptosis and autophagy of the Schwann cells. Thus, we concluded that XIST attenuated DPN by inducing autophagy through miR-30d-5p/SIRT1 axis. XIST and miR-30d-5p may be applied as the potential targets for DPN therapy.

The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of golden pheasant Chrysolophus pictus from North China was sequenced by the shotgun genome skimming methods. The mitogenome of C. pictus was 16,678 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes and one non-coding control region (D-loop). Its overall base composition was 30.4% A, 24.8% T, 31.2% C and 13.6% G. All protein-coding genes had a typical ATG initiation codon except COX1 with GTG and terminated with a TAN codon, whereas COX1 terminated with a codon of AGG, COX3, ND2 and ND4 terminated with a single T. The ML phylogenetic tree constructed using 13 protein-coding genes showed that Chrysolophus species formed a monophyletic group, which was sister to the clade clustered by the two genera Crossoptilon and Lophura.

In our quest to leverage the capabilities of the emerging single-atom catalysts (SACs) for wastewater purification, we confronted fundamental challenges related to electron scarcity and instability. Through meticulous theoretical calculations, we identified optimal placements for nitrogen vacancies (Nv) and iron (Fe) single-atom sites, uncovering a dual-site approach that significantly amplified visible-light absorption and charge transfer dynamics. Informed by these computational insights, we cleverly integrated Nv into the catalyst design to boost electron density around iron atoms, yielding a potent and flexible photoactivator for benign peracetic acid. This exceptional catalyst exhibited remarkable stability and effectively degraded various organic contaminants over 20 cycles with self-cleaning properties. Specifically, the Nv sites captured electrons, enabling their swift transfer to adjacent Fe sites under visible light irradiation. This mechanism accelerated the reduction of the formed "peracetic acid-catalyst" intermediate. Theoretical calculations were used to elucidate the synergistic interplay of dual mechanisms, illuminating increased adsorption and activation of reactive molecules. Furthermore, electron reduction pathways on the conduction band were elaborately explored, unveiling the production of reactive species that enhanced photocatalytic processes. A six-flux model and associated parameters were also applied to precisely optimize the photocatalytic process, providing invaluable insights for future photocata- lyst design. Overall, this study offers a molecule-level insight into the rational design of robust SACs in a photo-Fenton-like system, with promising implications for wastewater treatment and other high-value applications. The regulation of spermatogonial proliferation and apoptosis is of great significance for maintaining spermatogenesis. The single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis of the testis was performed to identify genes upregulated in spermatogonia. Using scRNAseq analysis, we identified the spermatogonia upregulated gene origin recognition complex subunit 6 (Orc6), which is involved in DNA replication and cell cycle regulation; its protein expression in the human and mouse testis was detected by western blot and immunofluorescence. To explore the potential function of Orc6 in spermatogonia, the C18-4 cell line was transfected with control or Orc6 siRNA. Subsequently, 5-ethynyl-2-deoxyuridine (EdU) and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assays, flow cytometry, and western blot were used to evaluate its effects on proliferation and apoptosis. It was revealed that ORC6 could promote proliferation and inhibit apoptosis of C18-4 cells. Bulk RNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis indicated that Orc6 was involved in the activation of wingless/integrated (Wnt)/β-catenin signaling. Western blot revealed that the expression of β-catenin protein and its phosphorylation (Ser675) were significantly decreased when silencing the expression of ORC6. Our findings indicated that Orc6 was upregulated in spermatogonia, whereby it regulated proliferation and apoptosis by activating Wnt/β-catenin signaling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
