Abstract

In order to realize direct manufacturing of cavity inside metal without assembly, this paper investigates the mechanism of cavity manufacturing inside metals under compound acoustic fields. First, a local acoustic cavitations model is established to study the single bubble generation at fixed point in Ga-In metal droplets, which has a low melting point. Second, cavitation-levitation acoustic composite fields are integrated with the experimental system for simulation and experimentation. Through COMSOL simulation and experimentation, this paper expounds the manufacturing mechanism of metal internal cavity under acoustic composite fields. The key problem is to control the duration of the cavitation bubble by controlling the driving acoustic pressure's frequency and the magnitude of ambient acoustic pressure. Under the condition of composite acoustic fields, this method realizes the direct fabrication of cavity inside Ga-In alloy for the first time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The impacts of global climate change on cities are increasing, especially in high-density cities. Urban blue-green spaces can regulate the microclimate of the surroundings through providing shade and transpiration while saving the energy use of residents. Under changing climate conditions, accurately assessing urban blue-green spaces' cooling and carbon-saving capacities is a prerequisite for the smart growth of the city. However, little attention has been paid to the cooling and carbon-saving potential of different blue-green spaces in mid and high latitude regions. Based on this, we selected Tianjin, a typical high-density city in northern China, as the study area and quantified the cooling intensity, cooling distance, and carbon-saving by cooling of the green space, the river-green space, and the lake-green space's samples under different seasons. The results show that: (1) the average background temperature can significantly affect the cooling and carbon-saving capacities of blue-green spaces and the intensity of the influencing factors on them. (2) Among the three types of urban blue-green space, the river-green space has the highest overall cooling and carbon-saving potential. The carbon-saving of the green space is better than the lake-green space but the cooling intensity of the green space is weaker. (3) The improved method of calculating "threshold value of efficiency" is more able to match the location of the inflexion points, and it can help planners obtain more accurate optimal blue-green space patch sizes. The contribution of this study is mainly in revealing the thermal sensitivity of the existence of cooling and carbon-saving functions under different background temperatures. The results of this study will serve as a tool for urban planners to configure the appropriate size and type of UBGS for different scenarios to achieve efficient cooling and carbon-saving in high-density by the urban blue-green space, which are in urgent need of smart growth strategies. • Three combinations of UBGS were selected to explore cooling and carbon-saving functions. • The model for estimating UBGS' carbon-saving by cooling was updated. • The carbon-saving efficiency thresholds are related to the background temperature. • The differences in the influencing factors of cooling and carbon-saving functions under different seasons are explored. • Optimization suggestions for the cooling and carbon-saving functions of three types of UBGS were proposed. Abstract

Aiming at the key factors affecting the quality and efficiency of high-energy in-beam machining, this paper studies the broadband acoustic focusing effect based on a discrete temperature gradient. Firstly, the basic theory and mathematical model of temperature-controlled acoustic focusing are established. Secondly, the acoustic focusing effect is achieved by combining the design of metasurfaces and discrete temperature. Then, the acoustic pressure and intensity distribution of acoustic focusing under a discrete temperature gradient are simulated and experimentally studied. The results show that the phase delay of transmission and reflection of acoustic wave covers the 2π interval by changing the temperature in different transmission units, which provides a theoretical basis for the processing of the acoustic focusing cavity.

Abstract

This work proposes a detailed process of micro/nano-structure surface modification in relation to temperature field. In this paper, a femtosecond laser is used to induce the surface morphology of a silicon substrate. We provide a new method for the fabrication of a micro/nano-cantilever probe by controlling the aspect ratio of the silicon surface morphology. A computational method is used to investigate the mechanical behaviors of early perturbation to late-stage structure. A diffuse interface model is employed to describe the evolution and provide a general framework. The theoretical model of femtosecond laser control surface morphology is verified by the experiments. For systematic study, the model involves the interface energy and kinetics of diffusion. This method provides an effective way to improve the sensitivity of micro/nano-cantilever sensors.

Abstract

While using a speaker verification (SV) based system in a commercial application, it is important that customers have an inclusive experience irrespective of their gender, age, or ethnicity. In this paper, we analyze the impact of gender and age on SV and find that for a desired common False Acceptance Rate (FAR) across different gender and age groups, the False Rejection Rate (FRR) is different for different gender and age groups. To optimize FRR for all users for a desired FAR, we propose a context (e.g. gender, age) adaptive thresholding framework for SV. The context can be available as prior information for many practical applications. We also propose a concatenated gender/age detection model to algorithmically derive the context in absence of such prior information. We experimentally show that our context-adaptive thresholding method is effective in building a more efficient inclusive SV system. Specifically, we show that we can reduce FRR for specific gender for a desired FAR on the voxceleb1 test set by using gender-specific thresholds. Similar analysis on OGI kids' speech corpus shows that by using an age-specific threshold, we can significantly reduce FRR for certain age groups for desired FAR.
