Random lasers have attracted much attention in recent years owing to their advantages of a simple fabrication process, low processing cost, and material flexibility for any lasing wavelengths. They provide a roadmap for the design of ultra-bright lighting, displays, etc. However, the threshold reduction in random nanolasers remains a challenge in practical applications. In this work, lower-threshold random laser action from monolayer molybdenum disulfide film-encapsulated Au nanoparticles (MoS2/Au NPs) is demonstrated. The observed laser action of the MoS2/Au NPs shows a lower threshold of about 0.564 µJ/mm2, which is about 46.2% lower than the threshold of random lasers based on Au NPs. We proposed that the charge transfer between MoS2 and the gain material is the main reason for the reduction in the random laser threshold. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method was used to calculate the lasing action of these two nanostructures. When charge transfer is taken into account, the theoretically calculated threshold of the MoS2/Au NPs is reduced by 46.8% compared to Au NP samples, which is consistent with the experimental results. This study provides a new mechanism to achieve low-threshold and high-quality random lasers, which has the potential to facilitate the application of random lasers and the development of high-performance optoelectronic devices. This article discusses the challenges of diagnosing pulmonary nodules (PN) and predicting invasive adenocarcinoma (IAC) using extracellular vesicle DNA. The authors developed a 21-gene panel for liquid biopsy and a diagnostic nomogram model to predict the risk of IAC. They conducted genomic analysis and identified prevalent driver genes in different groups. The study also validated the 21-gene panel using tissue DNA and extracellular vesicle DNA, and found that it can accurately identify MPN. Supersolid, an exotic quantum state of matter that consists of particles forming an incompressible solid structure while simultaneously showing superfluidity of zero viscosity1, is one of the long-standing pursuits in fundamental research2,3. Although the initial report of 4He supersolid turned out to be an artefact4, this intriguing quantum matter has inspired enthusiastic investigations into ultracold quantum gases5–8. Nevertheless, the realization of supersolidity in condensed matter remains elusive. Here we find evidence for a quantum magnetic analogue of supersolid—the spin supersolid—in the recently synthesized triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Na2BaCo(PO4)2 (ref. 9). Notably, a giant magnetocaloric effect related to the spin supersolidity is observed in the demagnetization cooling process, manifesting itself as two prominent valley-like regimes, with the lowest temperature attaining below 100 mK. Not only is there an experimentally determined series of critical fields but the demagnetization cooling profile also shows excellent agreement with the theoretical simulations with an easy-axis Heisenberg model. Neutron diffractions also successfully locate the proposed spin supersolid phases by revealing the coexistence of three-sublattice spin solid order and interlayer incommensurability indicative of the spin superfluidity. Bevacizumab (BEV) is widely used for the treatment of patients with recurrent glioblastoma (GBM), but recent evidence demonstrated that BEV induced cytoprotective autophagy, which allows tumor cells to survive. Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) inhibits lysosomal acidification and blocks autophagy via influencing autophagosome fusion and degradation. HCQ is often used to enhance the efficacy of chemoradiotherapy. However, whether HCQ sensitizes GBM cells to BEV and the molecular mechanism of this effect are not clear. We showed that high concentrations of BEV increased the LC3-II/LC3-I ratio and caused the degradation of Beclin1 in the LN18 and LN229 cell lines, indicating that high concentrations of BEV induced the autophagy of the LN18 and LN229 cells. However, BEV (100 μg/ml) did not influence the autophagy of the LN18 and LN229 cells, and HCQ at less than 5 μg/ml significantly accumulated LC3B-II and p62 proteins and blocked the autophagy process. Importantly, we found that HCQ (5 μg/ml) potentiated the anti-cancer effect of BEV (100 μg/ml). Therefore, HCQ is a novel strategy that may augment the efficacy of BEV for GBM via the inhibition of autophagy.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the main cancer-related mortality worldwide. Thus, there is a constant search for improvement in treatment strategies to enhance the prognosis of this malignancy. The study aims to investigate the combined antitumor activity of ammonium tetrathiomolybdate (TM, copper chelator) combined with hepatic artery ligation (HAL) for liver cancer. Methods: A total of 40 Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats bearing hepatic tumors were randomly divided into four groups: the control group without any treatment (control), HAL only (HAL), given TM by gavage (TM), and given TM combined with HAL (HAL + TM). The concentrations of serum copper were measured at the predetermined time points. Tumor growth rate, overall survival (OS), expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and microvessel density (MVD), as determined by immunohistochemical examination, were compared. Results: HAL treatment transiently could elevate alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) but resumed to baseline within 1 week. Serum copper was significantly increased in tumor-bearing animals over time. The values of serum copper in the three treatment groups were significantly lower than those in the control group at different time points, with the lowest values observed in the TM group (P <.05). The average tumor size was 30.33 ± 2.58, 20.83 ± 2.93, 16.80 ± 3.84, and 10.88 ± 1.08 mm in the control, HAL, TM, and HAL + TM groups, respectively (HAL + TM vs other groups, all P <.05). In addition, the expression levels of HIF-1α, VEGF, and MVD were significantly lower in the HAL + TM group than those in the other groups (P <.05). The OS of rats in the combined groups was significantly prolonged combined to the other groups (P <.05), with survival time of 19.1 ± 0.64, 25.4 ± 1.24, 25.3 ± 1.78, and 29.9 ± 2.22 days in the control, HAL, TM, and HAL + TM groups, respectively. Conclusion: These findings suggest that combined treatment with TM and HAL holds great potential for liver cancer treatment by reducing tumor hypoxia and angiogenesis. Photocatalytic defluorinative alkylation of trifluoromethyl groups is an attractive method for building important difluoromethyl structures. However, these methods rely on the use of complex, expensive, and toxic photocatalysts and hydrogen atom transfer reagents (thiols). In addition, substrates are limited to substituted alkenes in these systems. Herein, a visible-light-promoted catalyst- and additive-free strategy for the defluorinative alkylation of trifluoromethyl groups is presented. A broad range of polyfluorinated compounds was easily converted into difluoromethyl products. Simple and inactivated alkenes, such as ethylene, were found to be suitable substrates. Furthermore, complex deuterated α,α-difluoromethyl derivatives could be obtained. The mechanism was investigated by combining experimental and theoretical methods, which revealed that the in situ generated dimsyl and thiol radicals are key intermediates for the generation of CO2˙−.
