Methods: We observed the high-mass hot core region G351.77-0.54 with ALMA and more than 16km baselines. Results: At a spatial resolution of 18/40au (depending on the distance), we identify twelve sub-structures within the inner few thousand au of the region. The brightness temperatures are high, reaching values greater 1000K, signposting high optical depth toward the peak positions. Core separations vary between sub-100au to several 100 and 1000au. The core separations and approximate masses are largely consistent with thermal Jeans fragmentation of a dense gas core. Due to the high continuum optical depth, most spectral lines are seen in absorption. However, a few exceptional emission lines are found that most likely stem from transitions with excitation conditions above1000K. Toward the main continuum source, these emission lines exhibit a velocity gradient across scales of 100-200au aligned with the molecular outflow and perpendicular to the previously inferred disk orientation. While we cannot exclude that these observational features stem from an inner hot accretion disk, the alignment with the outflow rather suggests that it stems from the inner jet and outflow region. The highest-velocity features are found toward the peak position, and no Hubble-like velocity structure can be identified. Therefore, these data are consistent with steady-state turbulent entrainment of the hot molecular gas via Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities at the interface between the jet and the outflow. Conclusions: Resolving this high-mass star-forming region at sub-50au scales indicates that the hierarchical fragmentation process in the framework of thermal Jeans fragmentation can continue down to the smallest accessible spatial scales. The OSIRIS-REx Asteroid Sample Return Mission is the third mission in NASA's New Frontiers Program and is the first U.S. mission to return samples from an asteroid to Earth. The most important decision ahead of the OSIRIS-REx team is the selection of a prime sample-site on the surface of asteroid (101955) Bennu. Mission success hinges on identifying a site that is safe and has regolith that can readily be ingested by the spacecraft's sampling mechanism. To inform this mission-critical decision, the surface of Bennu is mapped using the OSIRIS-REx Camera Suite and the images are used to develop several foundational data products. Acquiring the necessary inputs to these data products requires observational strategies that are defined specifically to overcome the challenges associated with mapping a small irregular body. We present these strategies in the context of assessing candidate sample-sites at Bennu according to a framework of decisions regarding the relative safety, sampleability, and scientific value across the asteroid's surface. To create data products that aid these assessments, we describe the best practices developed by the OSIRIS-REx team for image-based mapping of irregular small bodies. We emphasize the importance of using 3D shape models and the ability to work in body-fixed rectangular coordinates when dealing with planetary surfaces that cannot be uniquely addressed by body-fixed latitude and longitude., Comment: 31 pages, 10 figures, 2 tables

Glasses formed by physical vapor deposition (PVD) are an interesting new class of materials, exhibiting properties thought to be equivalent to those of glasses aged for thousands of years. Exerting control over the structure and properties of PVD glasses formed with different types of glass-forming molecules is now an emerging challenge. In this work, we study coarse grained models of organic glass formers containing fluorocarbon tails of increasing length, corresponding to an increased tendency to form microstructures. We use simulated PVD to examine how the presence of the microphase separated domains in the supercooled liquid influences the ability to form stable glasses. This model suggests that increasing molecule tail length results in decreased thermodynamic and kinetic stability of the molecules in PVD films. The reduced stability is further linked to the reduced ability of these molecules to equilibrate at the free surface during PVD. We find that as the tail length is increased, the relaxation time near the surface of the supercooled equilibrium liquid films of these molecules are slowed and become essentially bulk-like, due to the segregation of the fluorocarbon tails to the free surface. Surface diffusion is also markedly reduced due to clustering of the molecules at the surface. Based on these results, we propose a trapping mechanism where tails are unable to move between local phase separated domains on the relevant deposition time scales.

The moniker rubble pile is typically applied to all solar system bodies with Diameter between 200m and 10km - where in this size range there is an abundance of evidence that nearly every object is bound primarily by self-gravity with significant void space or bulk porosity between irregularly shaped constituent particles. The understanding of this population is derived from wide-ranging population studies of derived shape and spin, decades of observational studies in numerous wavelengths, evidence left behind from impacts on planets and moons and the in situ study of a few objects via spacecraft flyby or rendezvous. The internal structure, however, which is responsible for the name rubble pile, is never directly observed, but belies a violent history. Using numerical integrations, we find that the orbital eccentricity of Saturn's moon Iapetus undergoes prominent multi-Myr oscillations. We identify the responsible resonant argument to be $\varpi-\varpi_{g5}+\Omega-\Omega_{eq}$, with the terms being the longitudes of pericenter of Iapetus and planetary secular mode $g_5$, Iapetus's longitude of the node and Saturn's equinox. We find that this argument currently (on a $10^7$~yr timescale) appears to librate with a very large amplitude. On longer timescales, the behavior of this resonant angle is strongly dependent on the resonant interaction between Saturn's spin axis and the planetary mode $f_8$, with long-term secular resonance being possible if Saturn's equinox is librating relative to the node of the $f_8$ eigenmode. We present analytical estimates of the dependence of the resonant argument on the orbital elements of Iapetus. We find that this Iapetus-$g_5$ secular resonance could have been established only after the passage of Iapetus through the 5:1 mean-motion resonance with Titan, possibly in the last Gyr. Using numerical simulations, we show that the capture into the secular resonance appears to be a low-probability event. While the Iapetus-$g_5$ secular resonance can potentially help us put new constraints on the past dynamics of the Saturnian system, uncertainties in both the spin axis dynamics of Saturn and the tidal evolution rate of Titan make it impossible to make any firm conclusions about the resonance's longevity and origin., Comment: Accepted for MNRAS

We present high spatial resolution observations of ground-state OH masers, achieved using the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). These observations were conducted towards 171 pointing centres, where OH maser candidates were identified previously in the Southern Parkes Large-Area Survey in Hydroxyl (SPLASH) towards the Galactic Center region, between Galactic longitudes of $355^{\circ}$ and $5^{\circ}$ and Galactic latitudes of $-2^{\circ}$ and $+2^{\circ}$. We detect maser emission towards 162 target fields and suggest that 6 out of 9 non-detections are due to intrinsic variability. Due to the superior spatial resolution of the follow-up ATCA observations, we have identified 356 OH maser sites in the 162 of the target fields with maser detections. Almost half (161 of 356) of these maser sites have been detected for the first time in these observations. After comparing the positions of these 356 maser sites to the literature, we find that 269 (76\%) sites are associated with evolved stars (two of which are planetary nebulae), 31 (9\%) are associated with star formation, four are associated with supernova remnants and we were unable to determine the origin of the remaining 52 (15\%) sites. Unlike the pilot region (\citealt{Qie2016a}), the infrared colors of evolved star sites with symmetric maser profiles in the 1612 MHz transition do not show obvious differences compared with those of evolved star sites with asymmetric maser profiles., Comment: 24 pages, 12 figures, accepted by ApJS

We report measurements of $\sin{2\beta}$ and $\cos{2\beta}$ from a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of $B^{0} \to D^{(*)} h^{0}$ with $D \to K_{S}^{0} \pi^{+} \pi^{-}$ decays, where the light unflavored and neutral hadron $h^{0}$ is a $\pi^{0}$, $\eta$, or $\omega$ meson. The analysis is performed with a combination of the final data sets of the \babar\ and Belle experiments containing $471 \times 10^{6}$ and $772 \times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon\left(4S\right)$ resonance at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. We measure $\sin{2\beta} = 0.80 \pm 0.14 \,(\rm{stat.}) \pm 0.06 \,(\rm{syst.}) \pm 0.03 \,(\rm{model})$ and $\cos{2\beta} = 0.91 \pm 0.22 \,(\rm{stat.}) \pm 0.09 \,(\rm{syst.}) \pm 0.07 \,(\rm{model})$. The result for the direct measurement of the angle is $\beta = \left( 22.5 \pm 4.4 \,(\rm{stat.}) \pm 1.2 \,(\rm{syst.}) \pm 0.6 \,(\rm{model}) \right)^{\circ}$. The last quoted uncertainties are due to the composition of the $D^{0} \to K_{S}^{0} \pi^{+} \pi^{-}$ decay amplitude model, which is newly established by a Dalitz plot amplitude analysis of a high-statistics $e^{+}e^{-} \to c\bar{c}$ data sample as part of this analysis. We find the first evidence for $\cos2\beta>0$ at the level of $3.7$ standard deviations. The measurement excludes the trigonometric multifold solution $\pi/2 - \beta = (68.1 \pm 0.7)^{\circ}$ at the level of $7.3$ standard deviations and therefore resolves an ambiguity in the determination of the apex of the CKM Unitarity Triangle. The hypothesis of $\beta = 0^{\circ}$ is ruled out at the level of $5.1$ standard deviations, and thus CP violation is observed in $B^{0} \to D^{(*)} h^{0}$ decays., Comment: To be submitted to Physical Review D

We present first evidence that the cosine of the CP-violating weak phase $2\beta$ is positive, and hence exclude trigonometric multifold solutions of the CKM Unitarity Triangle using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of $B^{0} \to D^{(*)} h^{0}$ with $D \to K_{S}^{0} \pi^{+} \pi^{-}$ decays, where $h^{0} \in \{\pi^{0}, \eta, \omega \}$ denotes a light unflavored and neutral hadron. The measurement is performed combining the final data sets of the BaBar and Belle experiments collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain $( 471 \pm 3 )\times 10^6\, B\bar{B}$ pairs recorded by the BaBar detector and $( 772 \pm 11 )\times 10^6\, B\bar{B}$ pairs recorded by the Belle detector. The results of the measurement are $\sin{2\beta} = 0.80 \pm 0.14 \,(\rm{stat.}) \pm 0.06 \,(\rm{syst.}) \pm 0.03 \,(\rm{model})$ and $\cos{2\beta} = 0.91 \pm 0.22 \,(\rm{stat.}) \pm 0.09 \,(\rm{syst.}) \pm 0.07 \,(\rm{model})$. Many dynamical aspects of the solar system can be explained by the outer planets experiencing a period of orbital instability sometimes called the Nice Model. Though often correlated with a perceived delayed spike in the lunar cratering record known as the Late Heavy Bombardment (LHB), recent work suggests that this event may have occurred much earlier; perhaps during the epoch of terrestrial planet formation. While current simulations of terrestrial accretion can reproduce many observed qualities of the solar system, replicating the small mass of Mars requires modification to standard planet formation models. Here we use 800 dynamical simulations to show that an early instability in the outer solar system strongly influences terrestrial planet formation and regularly yields properly sized Mars analogs. Our most successful outcomes occur when the terrestrial planets evolve an additional 1-10 million years (Myr) following the dispersal of the gas disk, before the onset of the giant planet instability. In these simulations, accretion has begun in the Mars region before the instability, but the dynamical perturbation induced by the giant planets' scattering removes large embryos from Mars' vicinity. Large embryos are either ejected or scattered inward toward Earth and Venus (in some cases to deliver water), and Mars is left behind as a stranded embryo. Asteroid (162173) Ryugu is the target object of Hayabusa2, an asteroid exploration and sample return mission led by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Ground-based observations indicate that Ryugu is a C-type near-Earth asteroid with a diameter of less than 1 km, but the knowledge of its detailed properties is still very limited. This paper summarizes our best understanding of the physical and dynamical properties of Ryugu based on remote sensing and theoretical modeling. This information is used to construct a design reference model of the asteroid that is used for formulation of mission operations plans in advance of asteroid arrival. Particular attention is given to the surface properties of Ryugu that are relevant to sample acquisition. This reference model helps readers to appropriately interpret the data that will be directly obtained by Hayabusa2 and promotes scientific studies not only for Ryugu itself and other small bodies but also for the Solar System evolution that small bodies shed light on., Comment: 62 pages, 10 figures, 8 tables. We present new criteria for selecting HII regions from the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) Point Source catalogue (PSC), based on an HII region catalogue derived manually from the all-sky Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE). The criteria are used to augment the number of HII region candidates in the Milky Way. The criteria are defined by the linear decision boundary of two samples: IRAS point sources associated with known HII regions, which serve as the HII region sample, and IRAS point sources at high Galactic latitudes, which serve as the non-HII region sample. A machine learning classifier, specifically a support vector machine (SVM), is used to determine the decision boundary. We investigate all combinations of four IRAS bands and suggest that the optimal criterion is log(F$_{\rm 60}$/F$_{\rm 12}$)$\ge$(-0.19$\times$log(F$_{\rm 100}$/F$_{\rm 25}$)+ 1.52), with detections at 60 and 100 micron. This selects 3041 HII region candidates from the IRAS PSC. We find that IRAS HII region candidates show evidence of evolution on the two-colour diagram. Merging the WISE HII catalogue with IRAS HII region candidates, we estimate a lower limit of approximately 10200 for the number of HII regions in the Milky Way., Comment: MNRAS, Accepted. 11 pages, 7 figures
