Este artículo es una primera aproximación al impacto social de la pandemia provocada por el Covid-19 en ciudades transfronterizas de la región del MERCOSUR. El objetivo es relacionar las medidas propuestas por los gobiernos nacionales con las consecuencias en la región transfronteriza en su doble dimensión: foco de entrada del nuevo coronavirus y espacio de convivencia de los habitantes. Identifica las repercusiones de las medidas en dos segmentos poblacionales residentes en el espacio transfronterizo: agentes estatales y población residente. Su construcción se sustenta en publicaciones de la prensa nacional y local, informes de las agencias multilaterales y entrevista. Los principales resultados indican la relevancia de los pactos informales cuando son efectivos, la ausencia de referencias a organizaciones y pactos binacionales, la interferencia con la reproducción social en los dos segmentos analizados y el rol protagónico de los agentes locales.

Abstract Using genome-wide transcriptome analysis by RNA sequencing of first trimester plasma RNA, we tested whether the identification of pregnancies at risk of developing pre-eclampsia with or without preterm birth or growth restriction is possible between weeks 9–14, prior to the appearance of clinical symptoms. We implemented a metaheuristic approach in the self-learning SVM algorithm for differential gene expression analysis of normal pregnancies (n = 108), affected pregnancies (n = 34) and non-pregnant controls (n = 19). Presymptomatic candidate markers for affected pregnancies were validated by RT-qPCR in first trimester samples (n = 34) from an independent cohort. PRKG1 was significantly downregulated in a subset of pregnancies with birth weights below the 10thpercentile as shared symptom. The NRIP1/ZEB2 ratio was found to be upregulated in pregnancies with pre-eclampsia or trisomy 21. Complementary quantitative analysis of both the linear and circular forms of NRIP1 permitted discrimination between pre-eclampsia and trisomy 21. Pre-eclamptic pregnancies showed an increase in linear NRIP1 compared to circular NRIP1, while trisomy 21 pregnancies did not.

O objetivo deste artigo é identificar práticas de Responsabilidade Social Interna (RSI) em uma cooperativa, da ótica de seus funcionários. Para o desenvolvimento da investigação assumiu-se que os indicadores de Responsabilidade Social (RS) estão próximos dos princípios cooperativistas. Assim sendo, as cooperativas devem atuar de forma responsável em relação a todos os seus stakeholders, desenvolvendo, com seus públicos externo e interno, práticas de gestão que podem ser identificadas a partir de Indicadores de Responsabilidade Social do Instituto Ethos (IRSIE). Trata-se de pesquisa descritiva, quali-quantitativa, aplicada, desenvolvida por meio de pesquisa de campo na unidade sede de uma cooperativa de crédito, no interior do estado de São Paulo. Os resultados alcançados apontam para a presença de práticas de RSI e indicam que a maioria dos funcionários identifica a presença de RS nas ações da cooperativa. No entanto, algumas ações e procedimentos devem ser aperfeiçoados e divulgados pela cooperativa.

The reasons why some species occur widespread, while related species have restricted geographical ranges have been attributed to habitat specialization or ecological niche breadth. For species in the genus Saxifraga, habitat specialization alone cannot explain the distributional differences observed. We hypothesize that recruitment traits (i.e., germination, emergence, and survival) may account for differences in geographical ranges and that early life stages correlate to survival. We studied recruitment responses in 13 widespread and 12 narrow-ranged Saxifraga species in the laboratory and common garden experiments using seeds collected from 79 populations in the European Alps. We found that in the laboratory cold temperature led to higher germination percentages compared with warm temperature for both distribution groups. This represents an exception to the general assumption that alpine species require warm cues for germination. In warm laboratory temperatures, widespread species germinated better than narrow-ranged species, indicating a greater tolerance of warm temperatures for the former. Subsequent to germination, recruitment traits between the two distribution groups were lower or null in the common garden, suggesting that the impact of recruitment on species’ geographical ranges occurs at the earliest life stage. Mean time to emergence of narrow-ranged species showed lower variability than that of widespread species. Consistently, intraspecific variation of mean annual temperatures between seed collection sites was lower for narrow-ranged species, indicating a close relationship between home sites and emergence time. Emergence percentage was a strong predictor of survival only for widespread species, underlining that seed and seedling functional traits differ between distribution groups, which require further research. Our results support the view that early life stages are critical to population dynamics and thus can influence species’ geographical ranges. The wider responses to climatic conditions in widespread species may have facilitated their spread across the Alps. Our results also suggest that all Saxifraga species face a considerable threat from climate warming due to their overall cold-adapted recruitment niche.

Objectives There is little in-depth qualitative evidence of how symptoms manifest themselves in outpatients with COVID-19 and how these in turn impact outpatients’ daily lives. The objective of the study was therefore to explore the experience of outpatients with COVID-19 qualitatively, concerning the symptomatic experience and its subsequent impact on daily life.Setting Qualitative research study comprising virtual in-depth, open-ended interviews with outpatients and clinicians.Participants Thirty US adult patients with COVID-19 were interviewed within 21 days of diagnosis. Patients were 60% female and 87% white, who had to self-report one of the following: fever, cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, change/loss of taste/smell, vomiting/diarrhoea or body/muscle aches. Five independent clinicians were also interviewed about their experience treating outpatients.Primary and secondary outcome measures Transcripts were analysed thematically to organise symptoms and impacts of daily life into higher-order overarching categories, and subsequently propose a conceptual model. The adequacy of the sample size was assessed by conceptual saturation analysis.Results Patient-reported concepts were organised into six symptom themes (upper respiratory, lower respiratory, systemic, gastrointestinal, smell and taste, and other) and seven impact themes (activities of daily living, broad daily activities, leisure/social activities, and physical, emotional, professional and quarantine-specific impacts). Symptom type, severity, duration and time of onset varied by patient. Clinicians endorsed all patient-reported symptoms.Conclusions The manifestation of symptoms in outpatients is heterogeneous and affects all aspects of daily life. Outpatients offered new detailed insights into their symptomatic experiences, including heterogeneous experiences of smell and taste, and the impacts that symptoms had on their daily lives. Findings of this research may be used to supplement existing knowledge of the outpatient experience of mild-to-moderate COVID-19, to further inform treatment guidelines and to provide an evidence base for evaluating potential treatment benefits.

ABSTRACT: Objective: This study aimed to identify the prevalence of multimorbidity and its associated factors in women in southern Brazil. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, population-based study with a sample of 1,128 women (age 20–69 years), living in São Leopoldo, southern Brazil. Multimorbidity was defined as two or more chronic conditions measured using the therapeutic and chemical anatomical classification of continuous use medications prescribed by a physician. Poisson regression model with robust variance was used to assess the association between sociodemographic and lifestyle variables and multimorbidity. Results: The prevalence of multimorbidity was 21.7% (95%CI 19.3–24.2), and 26 chronic conditions were identified. A direct linear association was observed with age and income and an inverse association with education. Being unemployed was a risk factor for multimorbidity (PR 1.95; 95%CI 1.51–2.52). Alcohol consumption (moderate or excessive) had a protective effect. Overweight and obese women were 53% (PR 1.53; 95%CI 1.09–2.15) and 76% (PR 1.76; 95%CI 1.27–2.45) more likely to have multimorbidity than eutrophic women. Conclusion: Over 20% of the adult women had multimorbidity, and its occurrence was strongly associated with socioeconomic characteristics, such as fewer years of schooling, higher income, and not having an occupation. The results regarding alcohol consumption are still insufficient to propose a public policy for the prevention of multimorbidity. Excess weight was an independent risk factor and should be addressed in public health policies for the prevention and management of multimorbidity.

Abstract Introdução: A diálise peritoneal (DP) é importante para a pediatria. Este estudo mostrou dados de centros brasileiros que utilizam DP pediátrica. Método: Estudo transversal, observacional, descritivo com questionário eletrônico. Incluiu-se pacientes de 0-18 anos em DP cadastrados nos bancos de dados dos diversos centros. Questionário preenchido anonimamente, sem dados de identificação. Foi adotada metodologia quantitativa. Resultados: 212 pacientes estão em DP no Brasil (agosto, 2021). 80% têm menos de 12 anos de idade. A maioria realiza DP automatizada e 74% são dependentes do Sistema Único de Saúde. Em 25% dos centros faltou material de DP e em 51% os pacientes pediátricos foram convertidos de DP para HD. Conclusão: A maioria dos pacientes tinha menos de 12 anos e era dependente do SUS. A escassez de insumos aconteceu em 25% dos centros. Esses dados apontam para o problema da sustentabilidade de DP, única alternativa de TRS em crianças muito pequenas.

Increased demand for processed sago has an impact on increasing sago starch production. The opportunity to produce sago flour is then used by some entrepreneurs to produce on a factory scale. Increasing competitiveness among entrepreneurs causes many aspects to be needed to improve marketing quality, including efforts to reduce waste generated from each production process. This study aims to identify the production process of sago starch and provide recommendations for waste minimization and clean technology in the sago flour industry. Interview methods and field observations were carried out in this study. The volume of waste generated in the production process of sago flour includes 10 kg of used sacks, 10 kg of spilled lamantak, 100 kg of sago dregs, 60 kg of spilled sago flour, 20 kg of burning ash and 50 kg of coarse sago flour. Liquid waste in the form of used water is 36,042 liters. Clean production methods that can be done are reducing the use of washing water, reselling used sacks into handicrafts, returning spilled flour and coarse sago flour to the demolition and dispensing basins, selling burning ashes, selling sago dregs for duck livestock feed and processing production liquid waste. using IPAL with a minimum capacity of 5,000 liters. The method offered can reduce the use of clean water by 2,358 liters of the total water requirement of 38,400 liters once produced

Abstract Aims Left ventricular non‐compaction cardiomyopathy (LVNC) is a genetic heart disease, with heart failure, arrhythmias, and embolic events as main clinical manifestations. The goal of this study was to analyse a large set of echocardiographic (echo) and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) parameters using machine learning (ML) techniques to find imaging predictors of clinical outcomes in a long‐term follow‐up of LVNC patients. Methods and results Patients with echo and/or CMRI criteria of LVNC, followed from January 2011 to December 2017 in the heart failure section of a tertiary referral cardiologic hospital, were enrolled in a retrospective study. Two‐dimensional colour Doppler echocardiography and subsequent CMRI were carried out. Twenty‐four hour Holter monitoring was also performed in all patients. Death, cardiac transplantation, heart failure hospitalization, aborted sudden cardiac death, complex ventricular arrhythmias (sustained and non‐sustained ventricular tachycardia), and embolisms (i.e. stroke, pulmonary thromboembolism and/or peripheral arterial embolism) were registered and were referred to as major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in this study. Recruited for the study were 108 LVNC patients, aged 38.3 ± 15.5 years, 48.1% men, diagnosed by echo and CMRI criteria. They were followed for 5.8 ± 3.9 years, and MACEs were registered. CMRI and echo parameters were analysed via a supervised ML methodology. Forty‐seven (43.5%) patients had at least one MACE. The best performance of imaging variables was achieved by combining four parameters: left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (by CMRI), right ventricular (RV) end‐systolic volume (by CMRI), RV systolic dysfunction (by echo), and RV lower diameter (by CMRI) with accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity rates of 75.5%, 77%, 75%, respectively. Conclusions Our findings show the importance of biventricular assessment to detect the severity of this cardiomyopathy and to plan for early clinical intervention. In addition, this study shows that even patients with normal LV function and negative late gadolinium enhancement had MACE. ML is a promising tool for analysing a large set of parameters to stratify and predict prognosis in LVNC patients.

Genetic diversity is the most basal level of biodiversity and determines the evolutionary capacity of species to adapt to changing environments, yet it is typically neglected in routine biomonitoring and stressor impact assessment. For a comprehensive analysis of stressor impacts on genetic diversity, it is necessary to assess genetic variants simultaneously in many individuals and species. Such an assessment is not as straightforward and usually limited to one or few focal species. However, nowadays species diversity can be assessed by analysing thousands of individuals of a community simultaneously with DNA metabarcoding. Recent bioinformatic advances also allow for the extraction of exact sequence variants (ESVs or haplotypes) in addition to Operational Taxonomic Units (OTUs). By using this new capability, we here evaluated if the analysis of intraspecific mitochondrial diversity in addition to species diversity can provide insights into responses of stream macrozoobenthic communities to environmental stressors. For this purpose, we analysed macroinvertebrate bulk samples of three German river systems with different stressor levels using DNA metabarcoding. While OTU and haplotype number were negatively correlated with stressor impact, this association was not as clear when studying haplotype diversity across all taxa. However, stressor responses were found for sensitive EPT (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera) taxa and those exceedingly resistant to organic stress. An increase in haplotype number per OTU and haplotype diversity of sensitive taxa was observed with an increase in ecosystem quality and stability, while the opposite pattern was detected for pollution resistant taxa. However, this pattern was less prominent than expected based on the strong differences in stressor intensity between sites. To compare genetic diversity among communities in river systems, we focussed on OTUs, which were present in all systems. As OTU composition differed strongly between rivers, this led to the exclusion of a high number of OTUs, especially in diverse river systems of good quality, which potentially diminished the increase in intraspecific diversity. To better understand responses of intraspecific genetic diversity to environmental stressors, for example in river ecosystems, it would be important to increase OTU overlap between compared sites, e.g. by sampling a narrower stressor gradient, and to perform calibrated studies controlling for the number of individuals and their haplotypes. However, this pioneer study shows that the extraction of haplotypes from DNA metabarcoding datasets is a promising source of information to simultaneously assess intraspecific diversity changes in response to environmental impacts for a metacommunity.

Abstract The use of sacubitril/valsartan significantly reduces death or hospitalization in patients with ejection fraction

Some of the numeric methods for solutions of non-linear equations are taken from a derivative of the Taylor series, one of which is the Newton-Raphson method. However, this is not the only method for solving cases of non-linear equations. The purpose of the study is to compare the accuracy of several derivative methods of the Taylor series of both single order and two-order derivatives, namely Newton-Raphson method, Halley method, Olver method, Euler method, Chebyshev method, and Newton Midpoint Halley method. This research includes qualitative comparison types, where the simulation results of each method are described based on the comparison results. These six methods are simulated with the Wilkinson equation which is a 20-degree polynomial. The accuracy parameters used are the number of iterations, the roots of the equation, the function value f (x), and the error. Results showed that the Newton Midpoint Halley method was the most accurate method. This result is derived from the test starting point value of 0.5 to the equation root x = 1, completed in 3 iterations with a maximum error of 0.0001. The computational design and simulation of this iterative method which is a derivative of the two-order Taylor series is rarely found in college studies as it still rests on the Newton-Raphson method, so the results of this study can be recommended in future learning.

Abstract Background Sedum praealtum has been used for a long time in traditional medicine as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent. Its beneficial effects have been known since ancient times, when Latinos used it to treat sore and swollen eyes. This research evaluated the antimicrobial potential, the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects, and some chromatographic profiles of the hydroethanolic extract of leaves, stems and roots of S. praealtum. Methods The antimicrobial activities were carried out by broth microdilution and agar diffusion. In vitro cytotoxicity was evaluated by cell cultures of Aedes albopictus and the selectivity index (SI) was estimated: SI=CI50/MIC. Genotoxic and systemic toxic effects of S. praealtum leaves were analyzed by micronucleus assay in mice bone marrow. Chromatographic profiles and mass spectra were investigated by GC-MS. Results Gram-positive (B. subtilis, B. cereus, M. luteus, E. faecalis and S. aureus) and gram-negative (E. coli, E. aerogenes, S. marcescens, P. aeruginosa, P. mirabilis and S. typhimurium) bacteria exhibited MICs ranging from 12.5–50 and 0–50 mg/ml, respectively. Sedum praealtum showed no efficacy against M. tuberculosis and M. bovis. Cytotoxicity (CI50) of S. praealtum was 4.22 and 5.96 mg/ml for leaves and stems, respectively, while its roots showed no cytotoxicity. Micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes (MNPCEs) analyzes showed no differences between treatment doses (0.5–2 g/kg) and negative control (NaCl), but the PCE/NCE ratio (polychromatic erythrocyte/normochromatic erythrocyte) showed significant differences. Phytochemical screening identified thirteen compounds in the leaves, stems and roots of S. praealtum potentially associated with their biological activities. Conclusions This research comprises a first scientific study on genotoxicity, cytotoxicity and antimicrobial effects of S. praealtum (Balsam), and it provides an initial theoretical foundation for its comprehensive use. Results showed antibacterial action of S. praealtum against gram-positive bacteria and some gram-negative species (depending on the plant anatomical part), but ineffective antimycobacterial action. However, S. praealtum leaves and stems display potential cytotoxicity, contributing to the SI

This research is using quantitative study aimed to see whether there are influence of dividend policy, leverage and profitability to firm value. The population used in this study is a manufacturer firm listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) in the period 2014-2017. By using purposive sampling method, it is obtained as many as 53 firm as the study sample. The method of analysis used in this study is multiple linier regression with a significant level of 0.05 (5%). In this research also include the classical assumption that normality test, multicollinearity test, autocorrelation test, and heteroscedasticity test. The results of these test indicate that (1) there is significant influence of dividend policy to firm value. (2) there is significant influence of leverage to firm value and (3) there is no significant influence of profitability to firm value. O presente artigo apresenta resultados de uma pesquisa que objetivou, por meio do diálogo entre duas teorias: a das representações sociais e da identidade profissional de Claude Dubar, investigar as representações sociais (RS) sobre escola e sua influência na constituição da identidade profissional de licenciandos em Química egressos do sistema público de ensino. A partir da análise das entrevistas foi possível depreender que o compartilhar de RS acerca de um objeto não implica, necessariamente, em modos singulares de atuação. Os jovens, embora compartilhem uma RS do professor atuante nesse sistema de ensino como um profissional com uma formação deficiente, a qual conduz a uma atuação em sala de aula de baixa qualidade, agem de modo antagônico. Atuar como professor na rede pública de ensino pode implicar, para uns, assumir essa atribuição de baixa qualidade, enquanto, para outros, vincula-se à possibilidade de atuar de modo oposto àquele retratado nesta RS.

Há, especialmente no século XXI, uma proliferação dos think tanks que operam como produtores e influenciadores de ideias acerca do mercado, que defendem a redução do intervencionismo estatal nas tomadas de decisões. Este estudo tem como objetivo discutir a influência que têm exercido na organização das políticas educacionais de forma a alargar e intensificar a penetração dos interesses do mercado na área educacional. Para alcançar este propósito, é realizada uma discussão sobre as formas de privatização que têm levado a lógica do mercado para o interior das políticas educacionais. É traçado um panorama da distribuição dessas organizações no mundo, com as características de seus financiadores e apoiadores. Por fim, são apresentados os princípios que orientam as ações de três think tanks: um estadunidense e dois brasileiros, com foco nas questões educacionais. Este estudo demonstrou que os interesses do capital, representados por organizações financiadas por grandes empresas (com capacidade de penetração na imprensa, nos governos, nas universidades, nas mídias sociais, na indústria cultural), pretendem claramente determinar ao Estado uma perspectiva privada na definição e na concepção das políticas educacionais.

Excessive everyday use of mobile phones and wireless communication systems has produced life in electromagnetic fields and growing public concern about possible effects on human health. All these devices operate close to the head and body and electromagnetic waves leave part of their energy in the matter through which they pass. There has been a lot of research on the toxic effects of amalgam fillings that are believed to be the main source of human total mercury body burden but there is not sufficient knowledge about the influence of electromagnetic radiation from mobile phone on amalgam filling and how that affects human health. Electrical engineering has the task to produce devices that improve the quality of human life without any negative effects, and to ensure the safety of new products and technologies. Using electromagnetic simulation to obtain electromagnetic quantities in the head and teeth and linking these results to physical and physical-chemical processes in the matter has led to advances in clarifying these issues. In general, the conclusion is that the use of mobile phones can lead to increased absorption of energy and other electromagnetic quantities in teeth and filling of teeth and cause increased release of mercury and toxicological effects to health associated with the intake of mercury in the human organism.

This research aims to describe code-switching, as seen in trading activity in Kota Solok. The objectives of this writing are to identify the form of codes which are commonly used by bilingual and diglossic inhabitants in trading activity in Solok market, to classify the code-switching which happens when the sellers and the buyers are talking to each other and to find out the factors which caused code-switching and diglossia. This research applied descriptive qualitative research in which the data came from a conversation in trading activities in Kota Solok. The data were also from the informants' statements about the things, which were related to the coding problem itself. The researcher collected the observational method supported by note-taking and recording techniques. The result found that there were several forms of code-switching in trading activity in the Kota Solok market: the switching among language codes among dialect codes and various codes. The diglossic situation also existed in society. The diglossic situation could emerge when society had two languages, while each showed different functions (high and low) in a different community. It could be seen in the Merantau tradition by Minang People.

This study is to evaluate the production wage accounting information system and the effectiveness of internal controls at PT. TM. The approach of this research is descriptive qualitative. This research was conducted at PT. TM in the period of 2019. The results show that the production wage accounting information system at PT. TM is in accordance with the procedures in the company but there is no flowchart. Internal control system for production wages at PT. TM has not been running effectively because there are still weaknesses such as still found multiple function in some parts and a lack of supervision of hired workers.

Summary: Background: Given the projected trends in population ageing and population growth, the number of people with dementia is expected to increase. In addition, strong evidence has emerged supporting the importance of potentially modifiable risk factors for dementia. Characterising the distribution and magnitude of anticipated growth is crucial for public health planning and resource prioritisation. This study aimed to improve on previous forecasts of dementia prevalence by producing country-level estimates and incorporating information on selected risk factors. Methods: We forecasted the prevalence of dementia attributable to the three dementia risk factors included in the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 (high body-mass index, high fasting plasma glucose, and smoking) from 2019 to 2050, using relative risks and forecasted risk factor prevalence to predict GBD risk-attributable prevalence in 2050 globally and by world region and country. Using linear regression models with education included as an additional predictor, we then forecasted the prevalence of dementia not attributable to GBD risks. To assess the relative contribution of future trends in GBD risk factors, education, population growth, and population ageing, we did a decomposition analysis. Findings: We estimated that the number of people with dementia would increase from 57·4 (95% uncertainty interval 50·4–65·1) million cases globally in 2019 to 152·8 (130·8–175·9) million cases in 2050. Despite large increases in the projected number of people living with dementia, age-standardised both-sex prevalence remained stable between 2019 and 2050 (global percentage change of 0·1% [–7·5 to 10·8]). We estimated that there were more women with dementia than men with dementia globally in 2019 (female-to-male ratio of 1·69 [1·64–1·73]), and we expect this pattern to continue to 2050 (female-to-male ratio of 1·67 [1·52–1·85]). There was geographical heterogeneity in the projected increases across countries and regions, with the smallest percentage changes in the number of projected dementia cases in high-income Asia Pacific (53% [41–67]) and western Europe (74% [58–90]), and the largest in north Africa and the Middle East (367% [329–403]) and eastern sub-Saharan Africa (357% [323–395]). Projected increases in cases could largely be attributed to population growth and population ageing, although their relative importance varied by world region, with population growth contributing most to the increases in sub-Saharan Africa and population ageing contributing most to the increases in east Asia. Interpretation: Growth in the number of individuals living with dementia underscores the need for public health planning efforts and policy to address the needs of this group. Country-level estimates can be used to inform national planning efforts and decisions. Multifaceted approaches, including scaling up interventions to address modifiable risk factors and investing in research on biological mechanisms, will be key in addressing the expected increases in the number of individuals affected by dementia. Diante da necessidade de se levarem aos produtores de sementes informações atualizadas sobre as regiões mais adequadas e sobre as melhores épocas para a produção, foi desenvolvido este trabalho de zoneamento agrícola para a produção de sementes de cebola em Santa Catarina.

O artigo apresenta a pesquisa sobre a parceria do poder público com instituições da sociedade civil para a oferta de educação infantil, no município de Porto Alegre, capital do Rio Grande do Sul, no período de 2017 a 2019. O referencial teórico-metodológico consultado parte da materialização do Estado, em um processo de correlação de forças, construídas historicamente por sujeitos que demandam políticas públicas. Constatou-se o incremento do setor privado na oferta e execução da política municipal de educação infantil, com implicações para a democratização do acesso e do atendimento das crianças. Assim, o direito à educação infantil não se concretiza plenamente, fortalecendo as desigualdades em uma sociedade de classes.

Este artigo apresenta um recorte da pesquisa-mãe “Desafios da escola na atualidade: qual escola para o século XXI? Uma pesquisa com vários atores no estado de São Paulo” – aprovada pelo Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) em 2017 (Chamada nº 22/2016 – Pesquisa Inovação em Ciências Humanas, Sociais e Sociais Aplicadas) e desenvolvida pelo grupo de pesquisa Contexto Escolar, Processos Identitários da Formação de Professores e Alunos da Educação Básica (CEPId) – e tem como foco apontar a análise dos resultados obtidos no eixo Condições de Trabalho Docente, que teve como objetivo identificar a percepção que educadores da rede pública estadual paulista têm das condições de trabalho docente e de como tais condições interferem ou não na realização de seu trabalho. Participaram da pesquisa 5.005 educadores da rede supracitada, cujos dados foram coletados por meio de questionário on-line, viabilizado por uma plataforma digital. A fundamentação teórica que pautou a análise dos dados baseou-se em documentos oficiais da legislação brasileira e em estudos acerca do “trabalho docente” e das “condições de trabalho docente”. Ao se confrontarem os objetivos da análise nesse eixo com os dados obtidos nos questionários, buscou-se compreender os reais desafios da escola, principalmente no que concerne às condições (materiais e imateriais) necessárias para o exercício do trabalho docente. Entende-se que, no Brasil, esse tema não tem recebido atenção suficiente por parte dos governantes, sendo fundamental a construção e a efetivação de políticas públicas que visem à melhoria das condições do trabalho docente e, consequentemente, à aprendizagem dos alunos.

BackgroundIn the last 2 weeks of January 2021, Portugal was the worst country in the world in incidence of infections and deaths due to COVID-19. As a result, the pressure on the healthcare system increased exponentially, exceeding its capacities and leaving hospitals in near collapse. This scenario caused multiple constraints, particularly for hospital medical staff. Previous studies conducted at different moments during the pandemic reported that COVID-19 has had significant negative impacts on healthcare workers’ psychological health, including stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, post-traumatic stress symptoms, and sleep disturbances. However, there are many uncertainties regarding the professional quality of life of hospital nurses and physicians. To address gaps in previous research on secondary traumatic stress, we focused on healthcare workers working in hospitals affected by a major traumatic event: the third wave of COVID-19.ObjectivesThe aim of the present study was to identify the contribution of personal and work-related contextual variables (gender, age, parental status, occupation, years of experience, working with patients affected by COVID-19) on professional quality of life of healthcare workers.MethodsCross-sectional study with a web-based questionnaire given to physicians and nurses working in a hospital setting. A total of 853 healthcare professionals (276 physicians and 586 nurses; median age 37 years old) participated in the survey assessing professional quality of life compassion satisfaction, secondary traumatic stress, and burnout. Factors of professional quality of life were assessed using regression analysis.ResultsMost of the participants showed moderate (80%; n = 684) or high (18%; n = 155) levels of compassion satisfaction, whereas the majority of them experienced moderate levels of burnout (72%; n = 613) and secondary traumatic stress (69%; n = 592). The analyzed variables demonstrated no differences between professionals who were directly or not involved in the care of COVID-19 patients. Parental status was found to be a significant factor in compassion satisfaction. Female gender was significantly associated with more susceptibility to secondary traumatization. Factors that may potentially contribute to burnout include years of professional experience and the number of work hours per week.ConclusionThe COVID-19 pandemic has created a new challenge for the healthcare system. Burnout and secondary traumatic stress can lead to medical errors and impact standards of patient care, particularly compromising compassionate care. It is therefore recommended that hospitals develop psychoeducational initiatives to support professionals in dealing with barriers to compassion.

In this paper, aluminum-doped zinc oxide (ZnO:Al or AZO) thin films are grown using atomic layer deposition (ALD) and the influence of postdeposition UV–ozone and thermal annealing treatments on the films’ properties are investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed a polycrystalline wurtzite structure with a preferable (100) orientation. The crystal size increase after the thermal annealing is observed while UV–ozone exposure led to no significant change in crystallinity. The results of the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses show that a higher amount of oxygen vacancies exists in the ZnO:Al after UV–ozone treatment, and that the ZnO:Al, after annealing, has a lower amount of oxygen vacancies. Important and practical applications of ZnO:Al (such as transparent conductive oxide layer) were found, and its electrical and optical properties demonstrate high tunability after postdeposition treatment, particularly after UV–Ozone exposure, offers a noninvasive and easy way to lower the sheet resistance values. At the same time, UV–Ozone treatment did not cause any significant changes to the polycrystalline structure, surface morphology, or optical properties of the AZO films.

Native (flat) oyster (Ostrea edulis) beds, once a major component of the North Sea, largely disappeared from the region in the late 19th century. Flat oyster restoration is taking place at a number of locations in the North Sea. When flat oyster beds are restored in areas where O. edulis is functionally extinct it is advised to treat these as disease-free areas. Adult oysters were collected in the Dutch Delta area which is infected with the pathogenic parasite Bonamia ostreae. The aim of this research was to obtain Bonamia-free seed from parents collected in a Bonamia-infected area. In addition, the oysters were analysed to identify candidate genomic regions related to bonamiosis tolerance and exposed to Bonamia in the field to assess survival compared to a naïve control group. With the aid of a non-destructive screening method, Bonamia-free broodstock were selected. These oysters produced Bonamia-free larvae and seed. For comparison, broodstock oysters were collected in the Dutch Wadden Sea, an area free of Bonamia. These oysters also produced Bonamia-free larvae and seed. To study if the Delta area oysters had developed a degree of resistance to the disease, while the naïve Wadden Sea oysters had not, seed of both groups was challenged in Lake Grevelingen where Bonamia occurs. Survival of the pre-selected Bonamia-free oysters was significantly higher than the naïve group. Samples of seed were analysed for association of candidate genetic markers related to bonamiosis tolerance. A higher percentage of individuals with tolerance-associated marker genotypes was found in the screened group compared to the naïve one. However, mortality of the naïve group could not be related to Bonamia presence. Further challenge tests are needed before firm conclusions regarding the genetic markers can be made. The results show that hatchery production of Bonamia-free and potentially Bonamia-tolerant flat oysters is possible.

In order to keep the +1.5 °C over-temperature, previously predicted with high confidence by IPPC Sixth Assessment, as minimal as feasible, it is more than vital to achieve a low-emission energy system. Polygeneration systems based on thermochemical processes involve biomass conversion in multi-output of bioenergy carriers and chemicals. Due to reduced energy input and input/output diversification, polygeneration energy systems are considered interesting pathways that can increase competitiveness of biomass-derived products. The proposed route of fast pyrolysis, sorption-enhanced biochar gasification and crude bio-oil hydrodeoxygenation to produce drop-in biofuel and hydrogen is examined. Both kinetic and equilibrium approaches were implemented in Aspen Plus to take into account the effect of the major operating parameters on the process performance and then validated against the literature data. Results show how the process integration leads to improved mass conversion yield and increases overall energy efficiency up to 10%-points, reaching the maximum value of 75%. Among the various parameters investigated, pyrolysis temperature influences mainly the products distribution while Steam/Biochar and Sorbent/Biochar affect the energy conversion efficiency.

In this study, we sought to investigate the impact of aromatase inhibitor (AI) therapy on gene expression and identify gene modules representing key biological pathways that relate to early AI therapy resistance. Methods Global gene expression was measured on pairs of core-cut biopsies taken at baseline and at surgery from 254 patients with ER-positive primary breast cancer randomised to receive 2-week presurgical AI (n = 198) or no presurgical treatment (control n = 56) from the POETIC trial. Data from the AI group was adjusted to eliminate artefactual process-related changes identified in the control group. The response was assessed by changes in the proliferation marker, Ki67. Research on Public Private Partnership (PPP) in Indonesia has emerged over the last decade due to the increased popularity of PPP as one of the financing scheme for infrastructure project. This study aims to determine the trend of the PPP research in Indonesia between the period of 2002 and 2019 and identify the research gap. Papers from three academic citation engine; Google scholars, Sinta and Garuda were selected based on the specific words relevant to PPP issues in Indonesia. A total of 107 papers from both international and national journals are analysed to discover few themes of the paper and analyse them based on the categories emerging from the themes. The analysis revealed that the quantity of the paper steadily increase from the period of 2015 and are still dominated by authors from engineering science background (41.12%). Road (20.47%) and Water Supply (16.54%) are the popular objects in the study, followed by airport (3.94%). In term of methodology, case study of a PPP project has been a popular methodology chosen by 31 papers (28.97%). Top three topics in the literature have discussed risk analysis of PPP project (22.43%), the implementation of PPP (22,43%) and the BOT scheme (13,08%). The study identifies the literature gap in the accounting issues and taxation issues respectively, as well as the social impact of the PPP projects. Research on the three issues will enrich our understanding about the PPP issues in Indonesia.

RESUMO O objetivo deste artigo é analisar os principais aspectos do novo regulamento, a chamada “Lei de Responsabilidade na Gestão Fiscal”, utilizando a estrutura do desequilíbrio orçamentário como uma falha do governo. Ressaltamos que o princípio da nova regulamentação é que, se o planejamento do governo for altamente detalhado e o déficit estiver sob controle, não observaremos inflação nem pressões de endividamento. Existem dois grandes problemas de controle: limites para despesas com salários de pessoal e o montante da dívida. O novo regulamento restringe a ação pública durante o último ano do mandato e trata da importância de divulgar informações sobre questões fiscais e a participação do público nas práticas orçamentárias. Apesar dos bons aspectos da regulamentação - especialmente no último ano dos gastos de um determinado governo, ainda há alguns problemas: a falta de discussão sobre o tamanho adequado e as funções do governo e o componente anticíclico da ação governamental que é desprezado pela lei.

Anopheline species were sampled in different ecotones at Maracá Ecological Station and in Cantá municipality, both in Roraima State, Brazil, in June 2016. Nine species were recorded. Six species belong to the subgenus Nyssorhynchus and three species to the subgenus Anopheles. The most abundant species collected were Anopheles triannulatus s.l., Anopheles nuneztovari s.l. and Anopheles oswaldoi species B. The remaining species had frequencies lower than 10%. While A. triannulatus s.l. was the most frequent and the most widely distributed species in the studied area, Anopheles darlingi Root, the main malaria vector in the Brazilian Amazon region, was captured in two different ecotones and in low frequency. Our findings suggest that the risk of malaria outbreaks at Maracá Ecological Station may be low. This study also describes the first record of Anopheles costai Fonseca & Ramos in Maracá Ecological Station, Roraima State, increasing the distribution range of this taxon.

ABSTRACT The present study aimed identifying the behavioral patterns of Anopheles species as well as to estimate the parity rate and natural infection analysis for Plasmodium species in the district of Ilha de Santana, state of Amapá, Brazil. The samples were obtained in four and 12-hours collections. In the intradomiciliary and peridomiciliary conditions and also in environments with the presence of animals from January/2017 to December/2018. The entomological parameters evaluated were human biting rate (HBR); Indexes of Anthropophily (IA) and Zoophily (IZ); Parity Rate (PR); Natural Infection Rate (NIR); Monthly and annual entomological inoculation rate (EIR). A total of 1,330 Anopheles specimens were collected, distributed in nine species. All captured species showed preference biting in outdoor enviroment. Anopheles darlingi was the most frequent species collected in indoor environment and the most anthropophilic (IA = 0.39) compared with the remaining species captured. It was also the unique species positive for Plasmodium vivax, had the highest anthropophily degree, highest biting activity and HBR in the first hours with a hight rate of parous females. Anopheles nuneztovari s.l. was the most zoophilic species (IZ = 0.65). These findings suggest that A. darlingi is the main malaria vector in the studied area. Anopheles albitarsis s.l. was the second species more anthropophilic (IA = 0.31) and revealed a stable pattern with a biting activity peak after sunset, consequently this species may contribute with malaria transmission in area.

Protein P66 is one of the crucial virulence factors of Borrelia, inducing the production of specific antibodies in patients with ixodid tick-borne borreliosis (ITBB). Various species of Borrelia are characterized by genetic variability of the surface-exposed loop of P66. However, little is known about this variability in Borrelia bavariensis. Here we describe the variability of the nucleotide sequences of P66 gene locus in isolates of B. bavariensis. Analysis of nucleotide sequences of P66 in 27 isolates of B. bavariensis from ITBB patients revealed three allelic variants of this gene. The alignment score of amino acid sequences in the isolates showed amino acid replacements in various positions confirming the presence of three allelic variants. Two of them are characteristic only for some isolates of B. bavariensis of the Eurasian gene pool from various parts of the geographic ranges of B. bavariensis from various samples. At least three allelic variants of P66 B. bavariensis have been identified, which have different amino acid expression, occur with different frequency in ITBB patients and, presumably, can have different effects on the course of the infection.

Haemagogus (Haemagogus) janthinomys (Dyar, 1921), the major neotropical vector of sylvatic yellow fever virus, is notoriously difficult to maintain in captivity. It has never been reared beyond an F1 generation, and almost no experimental transmission studies have been performed with this species since the 1940s. Herein we describe installment hatching, artificial blood feeding, and forced-mating techniques that enabled us to produce small numbers of F3 generation Hg. janthinomys eggs for the first time. A total of 62.8% (1562/2486) F1 generation eggs hatched during ≤10 four-day cycles of immersion in a bamboo leaf infusion followed by partial drying. Hatching decreased to 20.1% (190/944) in the F2 generation for eggs laid by mosquitoes copulated by forced mating. More than 85% (79/92) female F2 mosquitoes fed on an artificial blood feeding system. While we were unable to maintain a laboratory colony of Hg. janthinomys past the F3 generation, our methods provide a foundation for experimental transmission studies with this species in a laboratory setting, a critical capacity in a region with hyper-endemic transmission of dengue, Zika, and chikungunya viruses, all posing a risk of spillback into a sylvatic cycle.

This study reveals and discusses the role played by five painter-restorers – António Manuel da Fonseca, António Tomás da Fonseca, Carl Kathan, Gaetano Marmocchi, and Étienne Le Roy – at the service of King Ferdinand II of Portugal, from 1850 to 1864. It draws on a dataset of more than one hundred and fifty restored paintings, used here as evidence of the painter-restorers’ activity and versatility in the private art market, as well as of the king’s commitment to managing, repairing and preserving his collection of paintings. Ultimately, by identifying the paintings that have been restored by order of the “Artist King” and relating them to the restorers, this research opens the door for direct analyses and a more precise characterization of the methods and techniques used by these painter-restorers in 19th century Europe.

Medical education aims to train professionals who are capable of making extremely complex decisions. As part of the medical curriculum, bioethics education could have an important role in promoting moral development and decision-making in medical students. This study aims to determine if, after a Bioethics and Professional Deontology course, medical students would present a change of opinion on three ethical dilemmas. A quantitative and longitudinal study was developed by applying the MCTxt (Moral Competence Test extended), composed of three ethical dilemmas (Worker, doctor, and judge dilemmas), to a sample of 70, fourth year medical students, from a Portuguese medical school. The questionnaire was applied at the beginning and end of a bioethics course, with a 3 month time interval. For this study the opinion scores were analyzed and described using the mean and standard deviation. The comparison of these scores, at both times, were performed using t -tests for paired samples. A significance level of 5% was used. For students who were neutral in the first application, the majority went on to agree or disagree with the performance of the dilemma character, ultimately showing less indecision at the end of bioethics course. The results suggest that, after the bioethics course, students have lower indecision, however the changes were very tenuous. Bioethics education is important to promote more opportunities for reflection and discussion, to stimulate critical judgment, and the ability to make decisions by medical students. Further research could help to better understand this subject.

Introduction The current study determined the level and trends associated with the incidence, death and disability rates for bladder cancer and its attributable risk factors in 204 countries and territories, from 1990 to 2019, by age, sex and sociodemographic index (SDI; a composite measure of sociodemographic factors).Methods Various data sources from different countries, including vital registration and cancer registries were used to generate estimates. Mortality data and incidence data transformed to mortality estimates using the mortality to incidence ratio (MIR) were used in a cause of death ensemble model to estimate mortality. Mortality estimates were divided by the MIR to produce incidence estimates. Prevalence was calculated using incidence and MIR-based survival estimates. Age-specific mortality and standardised life expectancy were used to estimate years of life lost (YLLs). Prevalence was multiplied by disability weights to estimate years lived with disability (YLDs), while disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) are the sum of the YLLs and YLDs. All estimates were presented as counts and age-standardised rates per 100 000 population.Results Globally, there were 524 000 bladder cancer incident cases (95% uncertainty interval 476 000 to 569 000) and 229 000 bladder cancer deaths (211 000 to 243 000) in 2019. Age-standardised death rate decreased by 15.7% (8.6 to 21.0), during the period 1990–2019. Bladder cancer accounted for 4.39 million (4.09 to 4.70) DALYs in 2019, and the age-standardised DALY rate decreased significantly by 18.6% (11.2 to 24.3) during the period 1990–2019. In 2019, Monaco had the highest age-standardised incidence rate (31.9 cases (23.3 to 56.9) per 100 000), while Lebanon had the highest age-standardised death rate (10.4 (8.1 to 13.7)). Cabo Verde had the highest increase in age-standardised incidence (284.2% (214.1 to 362.8)) and death rates (190.3% (139.3 to 251.1)) between 1990 and 2019. In 2019, the global age-standardised incidence and death rates were higher among males than females, across all age groups and peaked in the 95+ age group. Globally, 36.8% (28.5 to 44.0) of bladder cancer DALYs were attributable to smoking, more so in males than females (43.7% (34.0 to 51.8) vs 15.2% (10.9 to 19.4)). In addition, 9.1% (1.9 to 19.6) of the DALYs were attributable to elevated fasting plasma glucose (FPG) (males 9.3% (1.6 to 20.9); females 8.4% (1.6 to 19.1)).Conclusions There was considerable variation in the burden of bladder cancer between countries during the period 1990–2019. Although there was a clear global decrease in the age-standardised death, and DALY rates, some countries experienced an increase in these rates. National policy makers should learn from these differences, and allocate resources for preventative measures, based on their country-specific estimates. In addition, smoking and elevated FPG play an important role in the burden of bladder cancer and need to be addressed with prevention programmes.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE to identify factors associated with common mental disorders (CMD) in a sample of adult women in Southern Brazil. METHODS This population-based study, composed of 1,128 women, investigated socioeconomic, behavioral and health/disease explanatory demographic variables. Five response groups were explored: one group with common mental disorders – cut-off point 6/7 in the Self-Reporting Questionnaire 20 (SRQ-20) – and four others corresponding to the different clusters found using the latent class clustering technique, also from the SRQ-20. These four clusters (low, medium-depressive, medium-digestive and high) were named (denominated) based on the mean scores in the SRQ-20 in each group and on the response patterns of the variables and factorial characteristics. The “low” cluster comprised women with lower SRQ-20 scores and, therefore less likely to present CMD. The “high” cluster, with high mean values in the SRQ-20, was related to higher psychiatric morbidity. We used the Poisson regression technique to compare the findings of the different groups. RESULTS We identified ten variables as factors associated with CMD. Age, education, smoking, physical activity, perception of health and number of medical appointments were the common variables for the cut-off point and cluster-based analyses. Heavy alcohol use was associated only when the sample was evaluated as a cut-off point. Social class, work situation and existence of chronic diseases were associated only when the sample was analyzed by clusters. There was a significant association in the “high” cluster with lower classes (D or E), smoking, physical inactivity, existence of chronic diseases and negative perception of health. CONCLUSION We identified different associated factors according to the response groups considered. New approaches allowing identification of subgroups of individuals with specific characteristics and associated factors may contribute for a more accurate understanding of CMD and provide the basis for health interventions.

Este artigo desvela o processo de privatização na educação infantil por meio do Fundo de Manutenção e Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica e de Valorização dos Profissionais da Educação (Fundeb) em duas capitais: Campo Grande (MS) e Porto Alegre (RS) de 2009 a 2020. Trabalhamos com a legislação educacional, dados do Fundo Nacional de Desenvolvimento da Educação, dados do Laboratório de Políticas Educacionais da UFPR, dados dos sistemas de ensino nas respectivas capitais e material de imprensa. Constatamos que os dois casos apresentaram, no período em tela, processos distintos no que tange ao processo de privatização da educação infantil por meio do Fundeb.

Obesity and insulin resistance (IR) are well-studied risk factors for systemic cardiovascular disease, but their impact on pulmonary hypertension (PH) is not well clarified. This study aims to investigate if diet-induced obesity induces PH and if peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR-γ) and/or endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress are involved in this process. Mice were maintained on a high-fat diet (HFD) for 4 months, and IR and PH were confirmed. In a separate group, after 4 months of HFD, mice were treated with pioglitazone (PIO) or 4-phenylbutyric acid for the last month. The results demonstrated that HFD for at least 4 months is able to increase pulmonary artery pressure, which is maintained, and this animal model can be used to investigate the link between IR and PH, without changes in ER stress in the pulmonary artery. There was also a reduction in circulating adiponectin and in perivascular adiponectin expression in the pulmonary artery, associated with a reduction in PPAR-γ expression. Treatment with PIO improved IR and PH and reversed the lower expression of adiponectin and PPAR-γ in the pulmonary artery, highlighting this drug as potential benefit for this poorly recognized complication of obesity.

Colossoma macropomum, known as “tambaqui”, is the largest Characiformes fish in the Amazon River Basin and a leading species in Brazilian aquaculture and fisheries. Good quality meat and excellent adaptability to culture systems are some of its remarkable farming features. To support studies into the genetics and genomics of the tambaqui, we have produced the first high-quality genome for the species. We combined Illumina and PacBio sequencing technologies to generate a reference genome, assembled with 39× coverage of long reads and polished to a consensus quality value (QV) of 36 with 130× coverage of short reads. The genome was assembled into 1269 scaffolds (a total of 1,221,847,006 bases), with a scaffold N50 size of 40 Mb, where 93% of all assembled bases were placed in the largest 54 scaffolds corresponding to the diploid karyotype of the tambaqui. Furthermore, the NCBI Annotation Pipeline annotated genes, pseudogenes, and non-coding transcripts using the RefSeq database as evidence, guaranteeing a high-quality annotation. A Genome Data Viewer for the tambaqui was produced, which will benefit groups interested in exploring the unique genomic features of the species. The availability of a highly accurate genome assembly for tambaqui provides the foundation for the discovery of novel ecological and evolutionary insights, and is a helpful resource for aquaculture.
