Abstract

Las metástasis peneanas de cáncer de próstata son raras, sobre todo en uretra y cuerpo esponjoso, aportamos un caso a la literatura. Se trata de un paciente con cáncer de próstata hormonorresistente que durante la evolución del mismo cursa con dificultad miccional y hematuria ocasional. Se observa durante la RTU unas formaciones mamelonadas en uretra peneana que se resecan, resultando ser metástasis de su carcinoma de próstata. El paciente se encuentra con buen estado general y sin clínica urinaria tras 7 meses de seguimiento. Nos parece muy interesante porque existen pocos casos reportados de metástasis en dicha localización.

Abstract

Las metástasis peneanas de cáncer de próstata son raras, sobre todo en uretra y cuerpo esponjoso, aportamos un caso a la literatura. Se trata de un paciente con cáncer de próstata hormonorresistente que durante la evolución del mismo cursa con dificultad miccional y hematuria ocasional. Se observa durante la RTU unas formaciones mamelonadas en uretra peneana que se resecan, resultando ser metástasis de su carcinoma de próstata. El paciente se encuentra con buen estado general y sin clínica urinaria tras 7 meses de seguimiento. Nos parece muy interesante porque existen pocos casos reportados de metástasis en dicha localización. Penile metastases from prostate carcinoma are uncommon events, much more in urethra and corpus spongiosum, we add a case to the preexisting literature. A patient with hormone resistant prostate cancer consults for haematuria and voiding difficulties. During TURP we observe tumors at the penile urethra wich are resected and result to be prostate cancer metastases. Patient is fine and without voiding disturbance after 7 months of following. We think is an interesant case because ther is few reports in literature.

Abstract

Item does not contain fulltext, The purpose of this study was to evaluate hepatic glucose metabolism of diabetic induced rats after a daily oral load of insulin nanoparticles over 2 weeks. After the 2-week treatment, an oral glucose tolerance test was performed with [U-��C] glucose and �H2O. Plasma glucose �H and ��C enrichments were quantified and the contribution of glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis to overall glucose production were estimated. Animals with the insulin nanoparticles displayed the lowest glycemia before the oral glucose tolerance test. In all animals, 75\% of the total glucose production was from gluconeogenesis and glycogen synthesis was only detected in some animals. Gluconeogenic pathway was an active contributor to hepatic glucose production and the treatment with oral delivered insulin nanoparticles did not alter this contribution, suggesting that under this treatment, protocol hepatic glucose metabolism is not the most relevant target of insulin action but instead a more generalised effect in peripheral tissues.

Abstract

Objective and design The purpose of this study was to compare effect differences of MCT between ‘western’ and ‘non-western’ patients diagnosed with schizophrenia/psychosis. It concerned a quantitative descriptive study with a comparative design. The examined population consisted of 40 patients with a psychotic disorder according to DSM-IV criteria, who participated in the day-care treatment for schizophrenic/psychotic patients at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, Holland. The study took place from January 2011 until April 2011. Method The effect of MCT was evaluated and analysed through nine instruments. These instruments measured psychopathology, major psychotic symptoms and attention disorders, language skills, intelligence and MCT evaluation. Results Only 22 out of 40 included and approached patients with psychosis/schizophrenia completed the study. 13 out of the 18 drop-outs (72.2%) were of ‘non-western’ origin, 5 (27.8%) were of ‘western’ origin. There were a lot of missing data. The results demonstrate a significant difference between the drop-outs and those who completed the training on attention and concentration. Conclusion Little support was found for the hypothesis that the Dutch language and cultural background played a role in the effect differences between 'western' and 'non-western' patients. However, problems with regard to generalisability and missing data have led to a distorted outcome. This calls for continued research with a (much) larger population and longitude. Only then will it be possible to say anything sensible about the effect differences of MCT between 'western' and ‘non-western’ patients.

Abstract

This study on the socio-economic effects of four carbon sequestration projects in Brazil and Bolivia examines how these projects contribute to local development processes and what benefits accrue to local people. It draws on a number of lessons relating to project design, social networks, economic impacts, and relations with local communities. In particular, it stresses the importance of early information exchange before project formulation to help reflect local social demands. It goes on to make important recommendations for CDM procedures, emphasising that local sustainable development should be a central part of CDM projects' eligibility criteria and should be given equal weight to those referring to additionality.
