En este trabajo se expone una aproximación al proceso de diseño de un Reglamento de Participación Ciudadana en un municipios del país caracterizado por estar situado en una de esas entidades federativas que han sido gobernadas, durante nueve décadas consecutivas, por un solo partido, concebido hasta hace algunos años como el partido oficial. Como objetivo de una investigación más amplia, de donde proviene este artículo, se buscó observar y obtener, mediante un proceso de Investigación Acción Participante, elementos, esquemas y comportamientos ciudadanos al intervenir en asuntos públicos.

La práctica docente en las zonas rurales ha constituido un reto pedagógico en los últimos años, sin embargo, evidenció problemáticas relacionadas con el compromiso e identidad de los profesores en innovar su práctica educacional. El estudio tuvo como objetivo diseñar un programa didáctico en acción para la mejora de la práctica docente rural en Yurimaguas, considerando como período de estudio el año 2021. Se asume una investigación cualitativa, con la participación de docentes del nivel primario quienes fueron entrevistados sin ningún inconveniente. Los resultados mostraron que existe indiferencia docente por actualizarse, lo que implicó la imperiosa necesidad de formular propuestas de mejora que aborden la problemática identificada. Se concluyó que la práctica docente rural se encuentra en un proceso de cambio que involucra aspectos teóricos, metodológicos, digitales e investigativos que servirán de apoyo en el desarrollo de los aprendizajes de los educandos.

This research presents a novel optimization modeling framework for the existing Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), which can be used to optimize perennial feedstock production. This novel multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) uses SWAT outputs to determine optimal spatial placement of variant cropping systems, considering environmental impacts from land-cover change and management practices. The final solution to the multi-objective problem is presented as a set of Pareto optimal solutions, where one is suggested considering the proximity to the ideal vector [1,0,0,0]. This unique approach provides a well-suited method to assist researchers and stakeholders in understanding the environmental impacts when cultivating biofuel feedstocks. The application of the proposed MOEA is illustrated by analyzing SWAT's example data set for Lake Fork Watershed. Nine land-cover scenarios were evaluated in SWAT to determine their optimal spatial placement considering maximizing biomass production while minimizing sediment yield, organic nitrogen yield, and organic phosphorous yield.

BackgroundIn the United States, problematic stimulant use is a prevalent and difficult to treat problem among men who have sex with men (MSM), as well as a major driver of HIV transmission through the large number of sexual partners and concomitant condomless anal sex (CAS). Evidence-based behavioral studies that address problematic stimulant use in MSM at risk for HIV infection are also lacking. In this paper, we describe the design of a behavioral intervention trial to reduce sexual risk behavior and stimulant use in HIV-uninfected MSM.MethodsThis study, funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), is a randomized controlled trial (RCT) testing an integrated HIV risk reduction and behavioral activation counseling intervention (IMPACT) for HIV-uninfected, stimulant using MSM in Boston, MA, and Miami, FL. Participants are randomized (2:2:1) to either (1) the IMPACT intervention; (2) a relaxation condition, an active therapy time- and intensity-matched control; or (3) a standard of care risk reduction counseling comparison. At enrollment, all participants receive an HIV test and pre- and post-test counseling. The primary outcome is the difference in the rate of change in the number of self-reported condomless anal sex acts without the protection of consistent Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) use, as well as reductions in stimulant use during the prior 4-months. Major assessments are conducted at baseline, 4-, 8-, and 12-month follow-up visits.DiscussionEffective and sustainable behavioral interventions are sorely needed to reduce HIV acquisition in stimulant using MSM at risk for HIV infection. In this study, we will evaluate the evidence of efficacy of the IMPACT intervention to reduce HIV acquisition in HIV-uninfected, stimulant-using MSM. If found effective, the intervention tested here holds promise for being readily integrated into real-world clinical settings.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov number NCT03175159 , registered June 5, 2017.

Background. Pasture growth rate (PGR, kg/ha/day) depends on climatic and management practices. However, studies on the influence of the environment on pasture production and productivity of dry matter are scarce in tropical, hot, and humid regions of México. Objective. To estimate the pasture growth curve using time and climatic variables. Methodology. We related, through nonlinear models, the accumulated growth of a pasture composed of native grasses mixed with exotic grasses, using time and the variables temperature and day length as independent variables, the latter integrated into a single variable called thermal photo units (PTU). We estimated the daily growth rates of five divisions; from these, the forage yields for ten days until completing 29 periods. The best-fit models had the largest coefficients of determination and the lowest Akaike’s information criterion. Results. The model that best described the relationship between cumulative yield (Y) and cumulative growing days (X) was reciprocal-quadratic: y = x/(0.097535 – 0.0000881x + 0.0000006810x2) with R2Adj, of 0.9988 and an AICC of 222.6. The model that best described the relationship between the accumulated performance and the accumulated PTU was rational: y = (- 317.8 + 1.594x + 0.00001307x2)/(1 + 0.001059x + 0.00000001964x2), with R2Adjt.=0.9985 and AICC=233.4. Likewise, a two-segment model showed a close fit. The logarithmic model described the first segment: y1 = -2268 + 417.2*(ln(x)), when y2 =1079.3e0.00003932X, if x > 8415; with R2Adj. = 0.9975 and AICc = 245.1. The value 8415 PTU was when the first derivative of both models coincided. Implications. The information generated is useful because it allows grazing system adjustment concerning the correct stocking rate application and designing more efficient grazing rotations. Conclusions. The conversion of growth rates to accumulated yield for ten-day periods produced a smooth curve that allowed fitting high-precision nonlinear models to predict forage accumulation from time and climatic variables.

El presente estudio tiene como finalidad dar a conocer los retos que enfrenta la educación inicial ante la carencia de un marco metodológico que desarrolle procesos de inclusión. Es necesario que el Estado ofrezca a los padres de familia una atención temprana que vaya desde los 45 días de nacidos hasta los 36 meses de edad, ya que esta última es la edad mínima para su ingreso a preescolar. Esta indagación se enmarca dentro de un enfoque cualitativo, como un paradigma interpretativo, en el cual se utilizó la técnica de investigación de las entrevistas estructuradas, estas fueron aplicadas a la comunidad escolar de un Centro de Atención Múltiple en el estado de Chihuahua, los cuales respondieron preguntas fundamentales para esta investigación. A partir del presente trabajo se fundamenta a la educación inicial como la base necesaria para desarrollar procesos inclusivos en los centros escolares. Se identifica la necesidad de establecer espacios que puedan ofrecer un servicio de calidad a la población con discapacidad, adecuaciones de acceso en los espacios educativos y un personal informado con relación a la temática; se concluye que la educación inicial se presenta como una área de oportunidad desde la perspectiva de los entrevistados.

BackgroundThe Cross-Cultural Neuropsychological Test Battery (CNTB) is a novel test battery specifically designed to reduce the impact of multiculturality in cognitive assessment.ObjectiveWe aimed to validate the CNTB in Spaniards in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), including patients at mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and mild dementia stages, and Parkinson's disease with MCI (PD-MCI).MethodsThirty patients with AD-MCI, 30 with AD-dementia (AD-D), and 30 with PD-MCI were recruited. Each clinical group was compared against a healthy control group (HC) with no differences in sex, age, or years of education. Intergroup comparisons, ROC analysis, and cut-off scores were calculated.ResultsAD-MCI scored lower than HC in those subtests associated with episodic memory and verbal fluency. AD-D also showed lower scores in executive functions and visuospatial tests. Effect sizes for all the subtests were large. PD-MCI showed lower performance than HC in memory and executive functions, particularly on error scores, with large effect sizes. Comparing AD-MCI and PD-MCI, AD-MCI had lower memory scores, while PD-MCI showed the worst performance in executive functions. CNTB showed appropriate convergent validity with standardized neuropsychological tests measuring the same cognitive domains. We obtained similar cut-off scores to previous studies performed in other populations.ConclusionsThe CNTB showed appropriate diagnostic properties in AD and PD, including those stages with mild cognitive impairment. This supports the utility of the CNTB for the early detection of cognitive impairment in AD and PD.

Summary: Mouse models are key tools for investigating host-microbiome interactions. However, shotgun metagenomics can only profile a limited fraction of the mouse gut microbiome. Here, we employ a metagenomic profiling method, MetaPhlAn 4, which exploits a large catalog of metagenome-assembled genomes (including 22,718 metagenome-assembled genomes from mice) to improve the profiling of the mouse gut microbiome. We combine 622 samples from eight public datasets and an additional cohort of 97 mouse microbiomes, and we assess the potential of MetaPhlAn 4 to better identify diet-related changes in the host microbiome using a meta-analysis approach. We find multiple, strong, and reproducible diet-related microbial biomarkers, largely increasing those identifiable by other available methods relying only on reference information. The strongest drivers of the diet-induced changes are uncharacterized and previously undetected taxa, confirming the importance of adopting metagenomic methods integrating metagenomic assemblies for comprehensive profiling.

Summary: Hallucinations limit widespread therapeutic use of psychedelics as rapidly acting antidepressants. Here we profiled the non-hallucinogenic lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) analog 2-bromo-LSD (2-Br-LSD) at more than 33 aminergic G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). 2-Br-LSD shows partial agonism at several aminergic GPCRs, including 5-HT2A, and does not induce the head-twitch response (HTR) in mice, supporting its classification as a non-hallucinogenic 5-HT2A partial agonist. Unlike LSD, 2-Br-LSD lacks 5-HT2B agonism, an effect linked to cardiac valvulopathy. Additionally, 2-Br-LSD produces weak 5-HT2A β-arrestin recruitment and internalization in vitro and does not induce tolerance in vivo after repeated administration. 2-Br-LSD induces dendritogenesis and spinogenesis in cultured rat cortical neurons and increases active coping behavior in mice, an effect blocked by the 5-HT2A-selective antagonist volinanserin (M100907). 2-Br-LSD also reverses the behavioral effects of chronic stress. Overall, 2-Br-LSD has an improved pharmacological profile compared with LSD and may have profound therapeutic value for mood disorders and other indications.

Summary: Background: Schools are high-risk settings for SARS-CoV-2 transmission, but necessary for children's educational and social-emotional wellbeing. Previous research suggests that wastewater monitoring can detect SARS-CoV-2 infections in controlled residential settings with high levels of accuracy. However, its effective accuracy, cost, and feasibility in non-residential community settings is unknown. Methods: The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness and accuracy of community-based passive wastewater and surface (environmental) surveillance to detect SARS-CoV-2 infection in neighborhood schools compared to weekly diagnostic (PCR) testing. We implemented an environmental surveillance system in nine elementary schools with 1700 regularly present staff and students in southern California. The system was validated from November 2020 to March 2021. Findings: In 447 data collection days across the nine sites 89 individuals tested positive for COVID-19, and SARS-CoV-2 was detected in 374 surface samples and 133 wastewater samples. Ninety-three percent of identified cases were associated with an environmental sample (95% CI: 88%–98%); 67% were associated with a positive wastewater sample (95% CI: 57%–77%), and 40% were associated with a positive surface sample (95% CI: 29%–52%). The techniques we utilized allowed for near-complete genomic sequencing of wastewater and surface samples. Interpretation: Passive environmental surveillance can detect the presence of COVID-19 cases in non-residential community school settings with a high degree of accuracy. The aging of people with HIV (PWH) is a major public health accomplishment and a social and cultural phenomenon. It highlights the human capacity to overcome adversity, the effectiveness of public health strategies (e.g., prevention and treatment), and the new challenges as well. Our societies are not well prepared to address the needs of older PWH and the changes they are creating. Stigma toward HIV, older age, and homosexuality, along with racism, have kept PWH largely invisible, resulting in limited investment in prevention and medical and social services. It is imperative that we develop an effective policy response to address the unique needs of PWH. The purpose of this article is to highlight current knowledge and emerging issues in HIV and aging to serve as a foundation on which to develop policy and program recommendations that will meet the new challenge.

Lyman Briggs College is a small residential college within Michigan State University, devoted to preparing students for STEM careers via preparation in the biophysical sciences that is paired with the humanistic and social scientific study of science and sciences humanistic and social dimensions. This paper reports and interprets the quantitative outcomes of an ongoing NSF-sponsored S-STEM project, begun in 2009, seeking to improve STEM retention in the college via a combination of scholarships and cohort-based curricular and cocurricular activities. The program supported scholars in their second through the fourth year. In examining the over 90 participants against a comparison population (eligible students who did not participate in the program), there was no statistical change in graduation rates from Michigan State University, though there was a statistical increase in retention in STEM majors. Moreover, the program has shown success in closing some inequitable STEM retention gaps between demographic groups with more or less social privilege (especially students with high financial need and students with low precollege math preparation), while not closing others (for underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities).

In this study, we propose the use of a convolutional neural network (CNN) (2+1) D-based model for the non-invasive detection of iron deficiency anemia using smartphones, addressing the need for accessible and efficient diagnostic methods. We have collected fingertip images from 909 young people, creating a robust dataset to train and validate the model through machine learning (ML), providing us with both spatial and temporal information. Our approach stands out for its simplicity and potential to be implemented in diverse contexts, which facilitates early and accurate diagnosis of anemia. The results show remarkable performance indices in the validation set: an accuracy of 0.9840, a precision of 0.9830, a sensitivity (recall) of 0.9840, an F1-Score of 0.9835, and an AUC ROC of 0.9878, demonstrating the model's high ability to effectively classify anemic states. These findings validate the efficacy of the model to significantly improve the detection of iron deficiency anemia, promoting the use of mobile technologies and machine learning for more accessible and efficient diagnosis globally. This breakthrough marks a significant step towards improving access and efficiency in health diagnostics through smartphone technology and machine learning, opening new avenues for the effective management of anemia and other health conditions. Multisensory human–machine interfaces for virtual- or augmented-reality systems are lacking wearable actuated devices that can provide users with tactile feedback on the softness of virtual objects. They are needed for a variety of uses, such as medical simulators, tele-operation systems and tele-presence environments. Such interfaces require actuators that can generate proper tactile feedback, by stimulating the fingertips via quasi-static (non-vibratory) forces, delivered through a deformable surface, so as to control both the contact area and the indentation depth. The actuators should combine a compact and lightweight structure with ease and safety of use, as well as low costs. Among the few actuation technologies that can comply with such requirements, pneumatic driving appears to be one of the most promising. Here, we present an investigation on a new type of pneumatic wearable tactile displays of softness, recently described by our group, which consist of small inflatable chambers arranged at the fingertips. In order to objectively assess the perceptual response that they can elicit, a systematic electroencephalographic study was conducted on ten healthy subjects. Somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) were recorded from eight sites above the somatosensory cortex (Fc2, Fc4, C2 and C4, and Fc1, Fc3, C1 and C3), in response to nine conditions of tactile stimulation delivered by the displays: stimulation of either only the thumb, the thumb and index finger simultaneously, or the thumb, index and middle finger simultaneously, each repeated at tactile pressures of 10, 20 and 30 kPa. An analysis of the latency and amplitude of the six components of SEP signals that typically characterise tactile sensing (P50, N100, P200, N300, P300 and N450) showed that this wearable pneumatic device is able to elicit predictable perceptual responses, consistent with the stimulation conditions. This proved that the device is capable of adequate actuation performance, which enables adequate tactile perceptual performance. Moreover, this shows that SEPs may effectively be used with this technology in the future, to assess variable perceptual experiences (especially with combinations of visual and tactile stimuli), in objective terms, complementing subjective information gathered from psychophysical tests.

The cross-referencing of two databases, namely the compartmentalization into groundwater bodies (GWB) and the quality monitoring (2830 observations including 15 physico-chemical and bacteriological parameters, on 662 collection points and over a period of 27 years) is applied to better understand the diversity of the waters of the island of Corsica (France) and to facilitate the surveillance and quality monitoring of the groundwater resource. Data conditioning (log-transformation), dimensional reduction (PCA), classification (AHC) and then quantification of the information lost during grouping (ANOVA), highlight the need to sub-divide the groundwater bodies in the crystalline part of the island in order to take better account of lithological diversity and other environmental factors (slope, altitude, soil thickness, etc.). The compartmentalization into 15 units, mainly based on structural geology, provides less information than the grouping into 12 units after subdivision of the crystalline region. The diversity of the waters in terms of chemical and bacteriological composition is discussed, and the results encourage a review of the compartmentalization of the island’s GWBs, with a view to more targeted monitoring based on this diversity.

Introduction: Expressing and communicating emotions is one of the main functions of music. Learning the skills involved in this communication is a central part of training performers; the study of teachers' and students' conceptions of appropriate ways to improve expressiveness can be considered a priority task for psychoeducational research. The aim of this study, therefore, is to: (1) validate an instrument for assessing such conceptions; (2) learn how teachers and students of higher levels of music education rate different teaching-learning strategies of emotional expressiveness in music; and (3) to compare these ratings between the two groups. Method: For this purpose, 229 persons (170 students and 59 teachers) from the Music Conservatory of Madrid completed a questionnaire about improving expressiveness. Four different strategies for teaching and learning expressiveness were included. Results: There were certain statistically significant differences between groups in their preferences for different strategies. The most important differences, however, were found in within-group comparisons: the strategy based on the use of technical instructions received the best ratings, whereas modelling was the strategy with the poorest ratings. These effects were independent of gender and age. The theoretical factor structure had excellent fit to the data (CFI=0.95). Discussion and conclusions: In conclusion, the two groups differed in their conceptions about the best strategies for training in expressiveness, but they agreed on their preferences for one strategy or another, with particular preference for the use of technical instructions. The possible pedagogical implications of these differences are discussed, and this questionnaire is recommended for use in educational settings.

The aim of this study was to examine whether the use of a response-to-intervention (RTI) model to identify specific learning disability (SLD) over-identifies children and youth with population-relative (normative) weaknesses in general cognitive ability (IQs < 90). We compared the overall score on the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test-Second Edition (KBIT-2; Kaufman and Kaufman 2004) for a group of students with SLD (n = 30) who had been identified in an RTI model with a group of same-age peers (n = 249) in general education. Statistically significant differences were observed between the SLD and general education groups, with considerably lower mean scores for the SLD group. Effect sizes of the mean differences were large. Approximately three-fourths (73.3%) of the SLD group had overall scores on the KBIT-2 that were below the mean of the normative sample and almost half (43.3%) had IQ scores that are below 90. In sum, results of this study support Reynolds' (2009) assertion that use of the RTI model for the identification of SLD over-identifies children and youth with IQs less than 90, thereby fundamentally altering the conceptualization of SLD from the traditional narrow sense (unexpected underachievement) to the broad sense (expected underachievement). A modified hybrid model is presented as an alternative method of SLD identification that addresses the main shortcomings of other current models.

Solar energy has been widely studied due to the sun being considered the most important source of renewable energy, at this time. The most promising opportunity for us is in modeling solar energy for different applications. This article shows a modified Angstrom model to estimate solar radiation in northwestern Mexico (southwest United States). The algorithm developed here for the prediction of solar radiation is based on the Angstrom model, along with a historical database and polynomial regression models. One of the final applications of the regression models is to simulate the performance of photovoltaic installations and solar collectors in the Ciudad Juárez region. This document presents the simulation of a polycrystalline cell applying the regression models of solar radiation obtained. Finally, we perform a statistical analysis between the estimated model and the reference data from the Mean Square Error (RMSE).

The primary sources of injuries in the workplace are improper manual material handling (MMH) motions, forklift collisions, slip, and fall. This research presents a Digital Twin (DT) framework to analyze fatigue in humans while performing lifting MMH activity in a laboratory environment for the purpose of reducing these types of injuries. The proposed methodology analyzes the worker’s body joints to detect biomechanical fatigue as a factor of change in back, elbow, and knee joint angles. Using the dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm, the change in joint angles with time was analyzed. The variation in DTW parameters was evaluated using exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts for further analysis. A preliminary study considering two healthy male subjects performing seven experiments, each under an optical motion capture system was performed to test the model’s efficiency. Our contributions are twofold. First, we propose a model to detect biomechanical fatigue in the subjects performing MMH lifting activity as a change in joint angles. Secondly, the research also shows evidence that different individuals show signs of body fatigue via different body joints and showcases the need for a true personalized DT for an operator for fatigue assessment in an MMH environment.

Objetivo. Determinar la influencia de un programa breve de reducción del estrés en trabajadores de salud del Instituto Nacional Materno perinatal durante la pandemia COVID-19. Materiales y Métodos. Esta investigación corresponde a un estudio cuasi experimental, que consiste en la elaboración y aplicación de un programa breve de reducción del estrés en trabajadores del área de Puericultura del INMP. La población estuvo conformada por 45 trabajadores, 30 de ellas cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión para el estudio piloto, de las cuales se distribuyó, por conveniencia, una muestra de 15 participantes para el grupo experimental y 15 para el grupo control. Las organizaciones, durante el desarrollo de sus actividades, generan un conjunto importante de datos que luego de ser procesados se convierte en información y sirve a la alta dirección para la toma de decisiones. En ese sentido, puede considerarse que la información es un activo estratégico muy importante que permite garantizar la continuidad de la operatividad a corto, mediano y largo plazo (Gallardo-Vázquez & Valdez Juárez, 2022). Esto hace necesario, que se tomen todas las medidas para garantizar la seguridad y disponibilidad de la información a través de la identificación de vulnerabilidades y amenazas para corregirlas o minimizarlas (García Porras et al., 2018).

ObjectiveThe Cross-Cultural Dementia (CCD) is a new screening tool to evaluate cognitive impairment based on a cross-cultural perspective to reduce the bias of education, and language and cultural differences. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic properties of the CCD in Spaniards for the assessment of patients with Alzheimer’s disease in mild cognitive impairment (AD-MCI) and mild dementia stages (AD-D) and patients with mild cognitive impairment associated with Parkinson’s disease (PD-MCI).MethodsSixty participants with AD (50% MCI) and thirty with PD-MCI were enrolled. Each clinical group was compared against a healthy control group (HC) with the same number of participants and no significant differences in age, education, and sex. A comprehensive neuropsychological test battery and CCD were completed. Intergroup comparisons, ROC curves, and cut-off scores were calculated for the study of diagnostic properties.ResultsIntergroup differences were found in accordance with the cognitive profile of each clinical condition. Memory measures (Objects test) were especially relevant for the classification between AD and HC. Memory and executive function scores (Sun-Moon and Dots tests) were useful in the case of PD-MCI and HC. Furthermore, CCD described differences in executive functions and speed scores comparing AD-MCI and PD-MCI. Correlations between standardized neuropsychological tests and CCD measures supported the convergent validity of the test.ConclusionCCD showed good discrimination properties and cut-off scores for dementia and extended its application to a sample of prodromal stages of AD and PD with mild cognitive impairment.
