The purpose of this research was to evaluate the level of Burkina Faso secondary pre-service teachers' technology skills. To reach the aim of the research quantitative research method has been used. Data was collected from 534 pre-service teachers of different departments with 429 male and 105 female from Burkina Faso secondary school teachers education in two institutes, the High Education School of Norbert Zongo University and Institute of Sciences of Ouaga II University on October 2017. Data were transferred to SPSS 22 for statistical descriptives test; t-test and ANOVA tests were applied. According to the results, Burkina Faso secondary pre-service teachers technology skills were so moderate in general and more particularly in basic computer operation (create, save copy and delete files etc…) in use of productivity software (MS Word, Excel, Power Point) and electronic communication (use of e-mail). But their level were low on multimedia (technique of integrating on same medium data of different natures as sound, text video and images…) and electronic references. Comparative analyzes in relation to some variables results indicted a significant difference between the gender; male were competent than female. Meaningful difference has been found between the pre-service teachers' education level. The results showed that pre-service teachers with personal computers were more competent than those without computer. According to the fields of study the result showed significant differences. Technical department pre-service teachers were more competent compare to science, literature and sport department. [For the corresponding online submission, see ED602046.]

In recent decades, climate change has led to ocean warming, causing more frequent extreme events such as marine heatwaves (MHWs), which have been understudied in the Caribbean Sea. This study addresses this gap using 30 years of daily sea surface temperature (SST) data, complemented by projections for the 21st century from nineteen Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) models. In the 1983–2012 period, significant trends were observed in the spatially averaged MHWs frequency (1.32 annual events per decade and node) and mean duration (1.47 ± 0.29 days per decade) but not in mean intensity. In addition, MHWs show large monthly variations in these metrics, modulated by interannual and seasonal changes. MHWs seasonality is different in the three used metrics, being more intense and frequent in warm and rainy months (intensity between 1.01 to 1.11 °C, duration 6.79 to 7.13 days) and longer lasting in late boreal winter (intensity between 0.82 to 1.00 °C, duration 7.50 to 8.31 days). The MHWs behavior from two extreme months show that these events can occur in both small and large areas in the Caribbean. Overall, models tend to underestimate the annually averaged MHWs frequency and intensity, while they overestimate duration when compared to observations. MHWs projections are more extreme under SSP585, as they are sensible to the radiational scenario. However, an increase in MHWs intensity and duration (events lasting as much as 154 days by 2100) is expected, driving a decrease in frequency (–37.39 events per decade under SSP585 by 2100). These projections imply that MHWs conditions at the beginning of the century will be nearly permanent in the Caribbean’s future. Nonetheless, caution is advised in interpreting these projections due to differences between models’ simulations and observed data. While advancements in oceanic models within CMIP6 demonstrate progress compared to previous CMIP initiatives, challenges persist in accurately simulating extreme events such as marine heatwaves.

In this study, secondary school students views related to use of the internet and the problems that they are faced on the internet were investigated. In this context students' and parents' views related to the use of internet by secondary school students were examined. In this study, qualitative researching method was used. This study was applied to secondary school students and parents in 2016-2017 educational years. As collecting data tool; "Personal Information Form" and "SemiStructured Interview Form" were used. Content analysis technique was used to analysis of data. According to the results obtained from the research, the following data has been reached. A high percentage of the students involved in the research (79,16 %) know nothing about the cyberbullying and the things to be done within their rights when encountered with it. 31,5 % of them use the net to study or do homework, 20,5 % for social networking sites and 17,1 % to play online games. It was also concluded that the most common problem encountered is the messages and demands from the people they do not know, in which case the parents know somehow and tend to solve the problem by taking necessary precautions, filing a petition or taking action legally.

Introducción: las neoplasias tímicas son un grupo de patologías tumorales que se pueden originar de células epiteliales, germinales, linfoides, hematopoyéticas o mesenquimales. Son raras y usualmente no se acompañan de síntomas específicos en la mayoría de los casos. De este grupo, los timomas tienden a tener la mayor incidencia, desarrollándose entre los cuarenta y cincuenta años sin prevalencia por ninguno de los sexos. Presentamos el caso de un paciente en quien se observó incidentalmente una masa ovalada en una tomografía computarizada de tórax, resultando posteriormente en un diagnóstico de timoma AB. Caso clínico: paciente masculino de 55 años de edad, con antecedentes de hipertensión arterial, acudió al centro de salud debido cuadro clínico gripal de 4 días de evolución. No se encontraron alteraciones relevantes en el examen físico. Por otro lado, la PCR para Sars-Cov-2 fue positiva junto con niveles elevados de ferritina y dímero D, lo cual arrojó resultados positivos para COVID-19. Inicialmente, se realizó una radiografía de tórax, la cual mostró una opacidad densa, circunscrita y lobulada en el segmento medial del lóbulo medio del pulmón derecho, en contacto con el borde cardíaco. Por lo tanto, fue necesario una evaluación complementaria con una tomografía computarizada de tórax. Los resultados mostraron una masa circunscrita con bordes bien definidos en la región inferior del lado derecho del mediastino. Se realizó una biopsia por congelación que indicó un posible timoma. Se hizo una timectomía completa y, posteriormente, patología confirmó el diagnóstico de timoma AB. Conclusión: Los tumores de timo son muy raros tanto a nivel mundial como en Colombia. Diagnosticar estas patologías puede ser difícil debido a la baja presencia de signos y síntomas en la mayoría de los casos. El tratamiento es timectomía completa y recesión de tejidos circundantes dependiendo del caso.

Osmanlı Devleti, kuruluşundan 16. yüzyıl sonlarına kadar uyguladığı siyasi ve ekonomik politikalarla önemli kazanımlar sağlamış, bulunduğu coğrafyada doğu-batı ve güney-kuzey eksenindeki ticaret yollarına hâkim olup Karadeniz ve Akdeniz havzasında istikrarı sağlayarak güçlü bir devlet konumuna yükselmiştir. Bu süreçte Anadolu, Rumeli, Suriye, Irak, Mısır, Karadeniz ve Afrika’nın kuzeyi ile İran Platolarına kadar olan geniş arazilere sahip olarak gelirlerini önemli ölçüde artırmıştır. Bununla birlikte 16. yüzyıl sonlarından itibaren yaşanan bazı gelişmeler devletin siyasi ve ekonomik istikrarını olumsuz şekilde etkilemiştir. 17. Yüzyıl boyunca da devam eden bu istikrarsızlık denk bütçe yapımını güçleştirmiş ve hazine sürekli olarak açık vermiştir. Devlet bu hazine açıklarını kapatmak ve uzun süren savaşların maliyetini karşılamak için çeşitli yollar aramıştır. Özellikle savaş dönemlerinde sefer ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak için imdâdiyye uygulamalarına başvurulmuştur. Bu dönemde farklı tarihlerdeki imdâdiyye uygulamalarından anlaşıldığı kadarıyla genellikle ekonomik durumu iyi olanlardan “istikraz” adı altında para toplanmıştır. Kaynaklara göre 1683 Viyana kuşatmasıyla başlayan ve birkaç cephede devam eden savaş masrafları için tüm ülkeyi kapsayan bir imdâdiyye uygulaması gündeme gelmiştir. 1687 tarihinde gerçekleşen bu imdâdiyyenin Trabzon’da da uygulandığı anlaşılmaktadır. Bu bağlamda eldeki arşiv malzemesinden özellikle Trabzon Kadı Sicillerinden hareketle bu konu değerlendirmeye tabi tutulacaktır.

Çalışmada, N-11 ülkelerinde 1993-2019 dönemi yıllık veriler kullanılarak, kirlilik sığınağı hipotezi ve kirlilik halesi hipotezi kapsamında doğrudan yabancı yatırım (DYY), ticari açıklık oranı (TO), ekonomik büyüme ve çevre kirliliği (CO2) arasındaki ilişkiler test edilmiştir. Panel regresyon analizinin kullanıldığı çalışmada temel varsayımlara karşı dirençli olan Driscoll-Kraay (1998) standart hata tahmincisi ile katsayılar tahmin edilmiştir. Tahmin sonuçlarına göre, DYY’deki %1'lik bir artış, çevre kirliliğini yaklaşık %0.15 oranında artırmakta ve böylece kirlilik sığınağı hipotezini doğrulamaktadır. Başka bir deyişle, DYY ev sahibi ülkede çevresel kirliliğe neden olmaktadır. Bu sonuç aynı zamanda kirlilik halesi hipotezini de geçersiz kılmaktadır. Çalışmanın diğer sonuçlarına göre, GSYİH'deki %1'lik bir artış çevresel kirliliği yaklaşık %3.5 ve TO’daki %1’lik bir artış çevresel kirliliği yaklaşık %0.02 oranında artırmaktadır.

Büyükşehir belediye modelinde iki kademeli yönetim yapısına geçilen 6360 sayılı Kanun değişikliğinden hareketle araştırmanın amacı, büyükşehir belediyeleri ile büyükşehir ilçe belediyeleri arasındaki katı atık yönetimi ve temizlik alanındaki hizmet paylaşımının son sekiz yılda ortaya çıkardığı uygulama sonuçlarının araştırılmasıdır. Araştırma, Ordu ve Trabzon büyükşehir belediyeleri ile büyükşehir ilçe belediyelerindeki üst düzey yönetici algısı üzerinden gerçekleştirilmektedir. Araştırma verilerinin toplanmasında yarı yapılandırılmış mülakat yöntemi kullanılmakta, veriler betimsel analiz yöntemiyle analiz edilmektedir. Araştırma sonuçları, katı atık yönetimi ve temizlik hizmetlerinin kademeler arasındaki paylaşımının başarılı şekilde sürdürüldüğünü, il belediyesinden büyükşehir belediyesine dönüşmüş olmanın büyük oranda beklenileni karşıladığını göstermektedir. Bir diğer sonucu, ana yol ve ara yol ayrımına dayalı hizmet paylaşımı ile bölgesel koşulların dikkate alınmamasının kademeler arasında sorunlara neden olduğunu göstermektedir. Çalışmada mevcuttaki hizmet paylaşımının, kademeler arasındaki iyi koordinasyon ilişkilerinin ve hizmetlerin devredilebilme esnekliğinin korunması gerektiği önerilirken, ana yol ve ara yol ayrımına dayalı hizmet paylaşımının kaldırılarak bölgesel koşulların hizmet paylaşımında dikkate alınması önerilmektedir.

Phytoplasmas are dangerous bacteria severely infecting agricultural production worldwide. In the present study, the identification of phytoplasmas infecting tomato plants showing symptoms such as small leaves, flower abnormalities, stunting, witches' broom, and reddening was performed. Five plants, two symptomatic and three asymptomatic, were tested to verify phytoplasma infection. Total DNA isolated from 5 leaf samples was used as a template for PCR reactions. The phytoplasma agents were confirmed in the two symptomatic samples. BLASTn search of 16S rRNA of two sequences shared identity similarity of 99.84% with ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma australasia’. Computer-simulated virtual RFLP profiles show that the 16S rRNA sequences is identical to the reference pattern of the 16SrII-D subgroup, with a similarity coefficient of 1.00. Based on BLAST, virtual RFLP, and phylogenetic dendrogram, the identified phytoplasma strains are enclosed in the 16SrII-D subgroup. This is the first report of tomato witches' broom disease related to 16SrII-D subgroup phytoplasma strains in the Antalya province of Türkiye.

Aortic dissection and aneurysms are one of the most important life-threatening diseases. After ascending aortic replacement, one of the life-saving urgent surgeries for Type I aortic dissection, aneurysmatic dilatation is usually observed in the remaining portions of the aorta over time. Open surgical repair for these patients still carries a 30% mortality rate despite improvements in open surgical methods, graft materials, and technological options. Endovascular repair provides promising results in high-risk patients. A 72-year-old female patient who underwent ascending aortic replacement for type 1 aortic dissection 9 years ago was admitted to our clinic with the diagnosis of symptomatic aneurysmal dilatation in the thoracic and abdominal aortic segments. We present this case in which we used the Cardiatis® Multilayer Flow Modulator stent to conduct endovascular repair. [Turk J Vasc Surg 2023; 32(2.000): 114-7]

However, understanding the individual significance of the values is crucial to predict the actions that produce them. A significant number of studies exist in counseling education that focuses on the diverse issues of counselor trainees. These include, but are not limited to, self-efficacy levels, emotional awareness, attachment styles, and supervision experiences in counseling education. During the literature review conducted for this study, it was discovered that there was no investigation of counselor trainees' values from an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) perspective. Using ACT as the overarching framework, the current qualitative study aimed to examine counselor trainees' values from a psychological flexibility perspective. During the data collection process, all counselor trainees (N = 62) were initially asked to fill both an Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (AAQ-II) that measured their psychological flexibility level and a Valuing Questionnaire (VQ) that measured their valuing levels. Participants were then split into two groups, based on their AAQ and VQ scores regarding either high or low psychological flexibility or values awareness. As a result of the analysis, 18 (15 female, three male) senior counseling students took part in the study, with the data being collected via focus groups and individual interviews. As a result of the study, four main themes were identified following detailed content analysis: (1) perception of values, (2) committed action vs. experiential avoidance moves, (3) present movement awareness and perspective skills, and (4) cognitive defusion and fusion experience. Implications were discussed in light of the relevant literature.

Aim: This study aimed to show the effects of glutathione, recognized by its antioxidant specialties, on the potential DNA damage (8-hydroxy-2- deoxyguanosine) and the antioxidant system changes upon its implementation in BHK-21 cells cultured with high glucose. Materials and Methods: BHK-21 cell line was regularly surpassed in vitro conditions (5% FBS, 10% horse serum, 1% L-Glutamine, 1% penicillin/ streptomycin in RPMI 1640 medium, and 5% CO2 and 95% humidity and 37ºC) incubated. The control group determined glucose's IC50 value based on the viability tests executed on MTT cells. Cells were seeded in plates as each would have 2x106 cells. The control, the test, and the crossbreed test (glucose; (285 mM), glutathione (250 &micro ,M)) groups were prepared. After 24 hours of incubation, trypsinized cells were designed for analysis through vitrification. In the lysate of the cell culture that was procured, Oxidative DNA damage, TAS, TSO, and OSI were measured by the spectrophotometric system with ELISA. Results: It was observed that 8-OHdG levels increased significantly with glucose application. Moreover, the increase in the HG+GSH group was more significant when compared to the control group (p≤0.05). No difference with the control group was found only in the group where GSH was applied. As for TAS, whereas any difference was observed in GSH used groups, the increase in the HG+GSH group was significant compared to the control group (p≤0.05). that were the same as the control group. TOS and OSI considerably increased in HG + GSH implemented groups as to the control group (p≤0.05). Conclusion: According to the results, no protective impacts of glutathione at the cellular level in the doses mentioned above were observed on high-dose glucose implemented cells. On the other hand, it was revealed that the applied amounts of glutathione in the process did not cause any toxic effects.

In this study, 1926 official legislation document was analyzed taking the role and duties of inspectors at that time in mind. These roles and duties were explained based on the authorization, investigation, interrogation methodology, and employment of inspectors. This study was carried out by implementing documentary research methods. Like other early Republican legislations, the inspectorate document was prepared at first in Arabic using the grammatical rules of Ottoman language. After 1928, because of alphabetical change in Turkey, official documents were prepared in Latin using Turkish rules. Since the document was done in 1926, it was first transcribed into Latin, and then translated where necessary. It can be understood from this document that inspection was more about control and guidance in the early years of Turkish Republic period. It is also understood that cultural and educational activities were not separated at that time. The main duties of inspectors include improving of education, investigation, and interrogation. Finally, differences in inspection between early Republican era and contemporary Turkey were compared.

Aim of the research was to investigate possible impact of visuals on primary school 4th graders' problem-solving success. 108 fourth graders studying at four primary schools in Bartin city center were assigned as participants of the study. The research was carried out in 2016-2017 academic year. The model of the study was post-test control group experimental design, among true experimental models. Four math problems were created as data collection tool. Four visually-aided problems were asked in the experimental group while the same problems without visuals were asked in the control group. Problem-solving successes of the students in both groups were scored according to Progressive Scoring Scale. Mann Whitney U test was employed for data analysis. As a result of the study, statistically significant difference was revealed between problem-solving success post-test scores of the students in the experimental and control groups. This difference was in favor of the students in the experimental group. Furthermore, when the experimental and control group students' success in understanding problem, planning solution, checking out the plan, checking trueness of the result was compared, significant difference was determined in favor of the experimental group. It was concluded that visuals were effective on problem-solving success of primary school 4th graders.

One of the most controversial issues about education in Turkey and around the world is inspection of education. Some countries conduct educational auditing through inspectors. Some countries, such as Finland, consider that there is no need for a mechanism such as an inspectorate, but instead considering public scrutiny. Inspectional Regulations in the Latest Period of Ottoman Time aims to shed light on the history of educational inspection in Turkey and to expose the history of the inspectors' duties and authorities and audit areas. In this scope, documents older than about a century were found and translated from the Ottoman Language. Document analysis method was used in this study. When the documents were evaluated as a whole, it was stated that the religious dimension of education was no longer inspected by the Republican regime founded in 1923 and secularization, but especially that bureaucratic control continues in different forms; the quality of education is still a matter discussed in Turkey; it is understood that the inspectors' school-related duties are still continuing and this situation continues to be a problem that is gradually diminishing in Turkey.

From the very early periods of accepting management as a science, main goal of inspection is seen as a control mechanism. Classical management approach evaluated staff as people who need strict inspections by experts to better perform since they are perceived as unreliable and irresponsible on their duties. Later on, expertise areas related to inspection were established and these experts were given inspector names. Education has been one of those expertise fields that started to have inspectors in its particular area. This study focused on curriculum leadership of education inspectors in Turkish Republic era. Because it is to establish the system of the Republic established after the fall of the Ottoman Empire and win the belief of the people to protect this system and to form a people who believe in the Republican system. The most powerful means of creating the people by believing in the republic system was the education system. Inspectors have been seen as the means by which the educational site is mediated for this purpose, teachers and the public as a means of believing in it. Therefore, many tasks were assigned to the education inspectors during this period. In this regard, a document dated 1926, named as "Instructions about Curriculum in Primary Schools", was obtained from General Directorate of State Achieves and transcribed into Turkish Latin alphabet. In this official document, the roles of educational inspectors as a part of their curriculum leadership for primary schools are defined as increasing the frequency of inspections on whether new curriculum, at that time, was implemented properly or not and ageing increasing the frequency of getting in touch with teachers in order to receive feedback about the curriculum and to support reaching the targets of the curriculum.

With the developments in information and communication technologies, books which are fundamental information sources for students throughout their education and training process are being transformed into electronic book (e-book) formats. E-books provide interactive environments, and they are also updateable materials, which shows that, in time, they can almost completely replace printed materials. In addition, there are no spatial and temporal limitations in conveying the lesson content to students using e-books, and they are accessible online as well, both of which increase the preference toward e-books. In this context, the study aimed to examine the e-book design process based on the ADDIE model used by the pre-service teachers in the Computer and Instructional Technologies department. E-books were include subjects radioactivity, acid rain and the greenhouse effect. The study was conducted throughout a period of 12 weeks with 54 sophomores in the Computer and Instructional Technologies department of Giresun University's Education Faculty who were taking the Material Design and Use in Education course during the 2015 Fall semester. The study data were collected using data collection forms and reflection reports. The data derived from these tools were analyzed using content analysis. The study results revealed that the pre-service teachers had problems particularly in the development process of the e-books. In addition, the pre-service teachers recognized their deficiencies when designing their e-books, and they eliminated these deficiencies to a great extent.
