201. A study of drag reduction with textile roughness on a cyclist model.

Abstract

Efforts were made to examine the effect of textile roughness for the reduction of aerodynamic drag experienced on a cyclist model. First of all, flow visualization experiments were conducted in a water channel with a 1/5 scale cyclist model to identify the flow separation lines on the contoured surface. Subsequently, based on the information learned, the idea of delaying flow separation on the model surface was implemented by means of sport suits. Seven sport suits featuring different textile materials and local roughness patterns were tested on a full-scale cyclist model in wind tunnel experiments, in addition to a reference case without a sport suit. From the CD data deduced, we identified a critical condition in most of the cases studied, featuring a least drag coefficient occurred at a Reynolds number within the flow speed range studied. For the best case found, the drag coefficient is amounted 7.5% less than that of the reference case at the same Reynolds number. Furthermore, the Cp and Cprms values reduced from the pressure measurements on the cyclist model with the sport suits unveil a trend that the reduction of drag actually infers the retreat of the local flow separation lines toward the rear side of the body accompanied with less severe the flow unsteadiness. Abstract

The spin-stand imaging technique is further extended to use the pre-existing servo marks on commercial hard disk media for greater scanning precision, which is necessary for track densities above 100 kilo-tracks-per-inch. This reduces the nonrepeatable run-out due to spindle vibration that can significantly distort spin-stand images acquired from commercial disks removed from their native environments. By driving a piezoelectric transducer with feedback derived from the prewritten servo marks, greater accuracy is achieved and demonstrated. Additionally, a technique for measuring the spin-stand imaging head response function and its application for imaging of recorded bit patterns in the context of perpendicular recording is described. Abstract

Due to the rapid development of Medical IoT recently, how to effectively apply these huge amounts of IoT data to enhance the reliability of the clinical decision making has become an increasing issue in the medical field. These data usually comprise high-complicated features with tremendous volume, and it implies that the simple inference models may less powerful to be practiced. In deep learning, multilayer perceptron (MLP) is a kind of feed-forward artificial neural\ud network, and it is one of the high-performance methods about stochastic scheme, fitness approximation, and regression analysis. To process these high uncertain data, the proposed work based on MLP structure in particular integrates the boosting scheme and dimension-reduction process. In this proposed work, the advanced ReLU-based activation function is used. Also, the weight initialization is applied to improve the stable prediction and convergence. After the improved dimension-reduction process is introduced, the proposed method can effectively learn the hidden information from the reformative data and the precise labels also can be recognized by stacking a small amount of neural network layers with paying few extra cost. The proposed work shows a possible path of embedding dimension reduction in deep learning structure with minor price. In addition to the prediction issue, the proposed method can also be applied to assess risk and forecast trend among different information systems.

208. Flexible facility interior layout: a real options approach

Abstract

This paper explores a case of flexible facility layout, in which the layout process can be carried out in a dynamic manner responding to changing demands. We consider a facility such as an office building that needs to partition its interior space into units of different sizes and allocate them to different users. Facing different demands, each of which requires a different space size, the management of the facility needs to constantly exercise managerial real options, such as partitioning a big unit to small units and merging small units to a big one. Modelling the demand uncertainties as stochastic processes, we use the Monte Carlo simulation and solve rolling two-stage stochastic programs over time to value the flexible interior layout. Through numerical tests, we demonstrate that effectively and timely exercising the managerial options can significantly increase profit and service quality. Focusing on the dynamic behaviour of the facility interior layout, the proposed options-based approach aims to improve facility management by proactive decision strategies. Known risk variants explain only a small proportion of breast cancer heritability, particularly in Asian women. To search for additional genetic susceptibility loci for breast cancer, here we perform a meta-analysis of data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) conducted in Asians (24,206 cases and 24,775 controls) and European descendants (122,977 cases and 105,974 controls). We identified 31 potential novel loci with the lead variant showing an association with breast cancer risk at P < 5 x 10-8. The associations for 10 of these loci were replicated in an independent sample of 16,787 cases and 16,680 controls of Asian women (P < 0.05). In addition, we replicated the associations for 78 of the 166 known risk variants at P < 0.05 in Asians. These findings improve our understanding of breast cancer genetics and etiology and extend previous findings from studies of European descendants to Asian women.Copyright © 2020, The Author(s).

211. Topical Application of Hyaluronic Acid-RGD Peptide-Coated Gelatin/Epigallocatechin-3 Gallate (EGCG) Nanoparticles Inhibits Corneal Neovascularization via Inhibition of VEGF Production

Abstract

Neovascularization (NV) of the cornea disrupts vision which leads to blindness. Investigation of antiangiogenic, slow-release and biocompatible approaches for treating corneal NV is of great importance. We designed an eye drop formulation containing gelatin/epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) nanoparticles (NPs) for targeted therapy in corneal NV. Gelatin-EGCG self-assembled NPs with hyaluronic acid (HA) coating on its surface (named GEH) and hyaluronic acid conjugated with arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD) (GEH-RGD) were synthesized. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were used to evaluate the antiangiogenic effect of GEH-RGD NPs in vitro. Moreover, a mouse model of chemical corneal cauterization was employed to evaluate the antiangiogenic effects of GEH-RGD NPs in vivo. GEH-RGD NP treatment significantly reduced endothelial cell tube formation and inhibited metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 activity in HUVECs in vitro. Topical application of GEH-RGD NPs (once daily for a week) significantly attenuated the formation of pathological vessels in the mouse cornea after chemical cauterization. Reduction in both vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and MMP-9 protein in the GEH-RGD NP-treated cauterized corneas was observed. These results confirm the molecular mechanism of the antiangiogenic effect of GEH-RGD NPs in suppressing pathological corneal NV.

Abstract

In project scheduling, the free float (slack) of an activity represents the leeway for scheduling the activity without affecting any subsequent activity. In the context of activity-on-arrow (AOA) network representation, textbooks on project management, based on our survey, have for decades been using a popular formula to calculate free floats that may lead to erroneous results in the presence of dummy arcs. In this note, we present a correct version of the formula. Extensions of the proposed formula to other floats such as safety float and interference float are also discussed.
