Species of the genus Thelephora (Thelephorales, Thelephoraceae) are ectomycorrhizal symbionts of coniferous and broad-leaved plants, and some of them are well-known edible mushrooms, making it an exceptionally important group ecologically and economically. However, the diversity of the species from China has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we conducted a phylogenetic analysis based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, using Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian analyses, along with morphological observations of this genus. Four new species from China are proposed, viz., T. dactyliophora, T. lacunosa, T. petaloides, and T. pinnatifida. In addition, T. sikkimensis originally described from India is reported for the first time from China. Thelephora dactyliophora, T. pinnatifida, and T. sikkimensis are distributed in subtropical forests and mainly associated with plants of the families Fagaceae and Pinaceae. Thelephora lacunosa and T. petaloides are distributed in tropical to subtropical forests. Thelephora lacunosa is mainly associated with plants of the families Fagaceae and Pinaceae, while T. petaloides is mainly associated with plants of the family Fagaceae. BackgroundIncreasing evidence has suggested an association of adiponectin gene polymorphisms rs1501299, rs2241766, rs266729 and rs3774261 with risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This correlation has been extensively meta-analyzed for the first two polymorphisms, but not the second two.MethodsThe PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases were searched for relevant literature. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated.ResultsA total of 10 case-control studies on rs266729 (2,619 cases and 1,962 controls) and 3 case-control studies on rs3774261 (562 cases and 793 controls) were included. Meta-analysis showed that rs266729 was associated with significantly higher NAFLD risk based on the following five models: allelic, OR 1.72, 95% CI 1.34-2.21, P < 0.001; recessive, OR 2.35, 95% CI 1.86-2.95, P < 0.001; dominant, OR 1.84, 95% CI 1.34-2.53, P < 0.001; homozygous, OR 2.69, 95% CI 1.84-3.92, P < 0.001; and heterozygous, OR 1.72, 95% CI 1.28-2.32, P < 0.001. This association between rs266729 and NAFLD risk remained significant for all five models among studies with Asian, Chinese and Caucasian samples. The rs2241766 polymorphism was associated with significantly higher NAFLD risk according to the recessive model (OR 1.87, 95% CI 1.15-3.04, P = 0.01).ConclusionPolymorphisms rs266729 and rs3774261 in the adiponectin gene may be risk factors for NAFLD. These findings may pave the way for novel therapeutic strategies, but they should be verified in large, well-designed studies.

The effects of twelve different pre-drying and drying methods on the chemical composition in the pericarp and kernel of Amomum tsao-ko were studied. The volatile components were isolated from the samples by simultaneous distillation and extraction and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Sixty and thirty-eight compounds were identified from pericarp and kernel, respectively, and the main constituents were oxygenated monoterpenes. These compounds were not only significantly affected by pre-drying and drying methods but also varied in content due to different tissue locations. The total volatile content of pericarp varied from 0.70 to 1.55%, with the highest obtained by microwave-dried samples (150 W) and the lowest in freeze-dried samples. The total volatile content of the kernel varied from 6.11 to 10.69%, with the highest content obtained during sun drying (SD) and the lowest content in samples treated with boiling water for 2 min. Oxygenated monoterpenes were the highest compounds in pericarp and kernel, which were also the most affected by drying methods. The highest content of oxygenated monoterpenes in the pericarp (0.77%) could be obtained by boiling water treatment for 5 min, and the highest content of oxygenated monoterpenes in the kernel (7.48%) could be obtained by SD. Additionally, the main components such as 1,8-cineole, 2-carene, (Z)-citral, nerolidol, (Z)-2-decenal, (E)-2-dodecenal, citral, (E)-2-octenal, 4-propylbenzaldehyde, and phthalan showed remarkable variations in pre-drying and drying methods.

The globally invasive cotton mealybug Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley, has recently invaded several Chinese regions, and continues to expand its range. This mealybug is a polyphagous insect pest, with at least 200 host plants from 63 families, including cotton, food crops, fruits, ornamental plants, tobacco, and vegetables. Here, we describe the first finding of P. solenopsis in Shandong Province, and investigate the abundances of its natural enemies (predator Coccinella septempunctata L. and parasitoid Aenasius bambawalei Hayat). All three species were detected from ornamental and weed species in Linyi, Shandong, in September 2018, and were positively identified using DNA barcoding. BLAST analysis revealed significant identity (99.38–100%) between sequences of P. solenopsis obtained in this study and those published in the past. This invasive pest represents a major potential threat to agri-horticulture in Shandong, which is a key province of China for production and export of many vegetables, flowers, fruits, and other crops. This mealybug species has a wide range of potential distribution in Shandong and is easily dispersed with agricultural and horticultural transport products. Further monitoring and management strategies are required to limit the spread of this pest species.

Abstract. Background:. Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) offers a new approach for adult patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). The study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of tACS treating MDD. Methods:. This is an 8-week, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study. Ninety-two drug-naive patients with MDD aged 18 to 65 years will receive 20 daily 40-min, 77.5-Hz, 15-mA sessions of active or sham tACS targeting the forehead and both mastoid areas on weekdays for 4 consecutive weeks (week 4), following a 4-week observation period (week 8). The primary outcome is the remission rate defined as the 17-item Hamilton depression rating scale (HDRS-17) score ≤7 at week 8. Secondary outcomes are the rates of response at weeks 4 and 8 and rate of remission at week 4 based on HDRS-17, the proportion of participants having improvement in the clinical global impression-improvement, the change in HDRS-17 score (range, 0–52, with higher scores indicating more depression) over the study, and variations of brain imaging and neurocognition from baseline to week 4. Safety will be assessed by vital signs at weeks 4 and 8, and adverse events will be collected during the entire study. Discussion:. The tACS applied in this trial may have treatment effects on MDD with minimal side effects. Trial registration:. Prognostics and health management (PHM) technology is an extremely important research focus in the field of reliability engineering. The ultimate goal of applying PHM technology is health management. Aiming at nonlinear degradation systems, an adaptive maintenance policy based on prognostic information is proposed herein. First, a nonlinear degradation model with an adaptive updating mechanism is used to predict the remaining useful life (RUL) of the degrading system. Then, based on the predicted RUL distribution, a multi-objective optimization model is established to address the trade-off between operating cost and availability through a constructed decision boundary, instead of the approach used in previous studies, which considers cost as a single indicator. Using this multi-objective optimization model, an adaptive decision criterion is proposed to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different replacement policies, in order to determine the optimal replacement time and dynamic condition monitoring (CM) interval of the degrading system. Finally, an example of gyroscope in an inertial navigation system (INS) is used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The regenerative capacity of peripheral nerves is limited after nerve injury. A number of growth factors modulate many cellular behaviors, such as proliferation and migration, and may contribute to nerve repair and regeneration. Our previous study observed the dynamic changes of genes in L4–6 dorsal root ganglion after rat sciatic nerve crush using transcriptome sequencing. Our current study focused on upstream growth factors and found that a total of 19 upstream growth factors were dysregulated in dorsal root ganglions at 3, 9 hours, 1, 4, or 7 days after nerve crush, compared with the 0 hour control. Thirty-six rat models of sciatic nerve crush injury were prepared as described previously. Then, they were divided into six groups to measure the expression changes of representative genes at 0, 3, 9 hours, 1, 4 or 7 days post crush. Our current study measured the expression levels of representative upstream growth factors, including nerve growth factor, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, fibroblast growth factor 2 and amphiregulin genes, and explored critical signaling pathways and biological process through bioinformatic analysis. Our data revealed that many of these dysregulated upstream growth factors, including nerve growth factor, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, fibroblast growth factor 2 and amphiregulin, participated in tissue remodeling and axon growth-related biological processes Therefore, the experiment described the expression pattern of upstream growth factors in the dorsal root ganglia after peripheral nerve injury. Bioinformatic analysis revealed growth factors that may promote repair and regeneration of damaged peripheral nerves. All animal surgery procedures were performed in accordance with Institutional Animal Care Guidelines of Nantong University and ethically approved by the Administration Committee of Experimental Animals, China (approval No. 20170302-017) on March 2, 2017.

Seedling quality is a prerequisite for successful field performance and therefore influences crop yields. Temperature and illumination are two major factors affecting seedling quality during nursery propagation. Suboptimal temperature or light of nurseries generally result in leggy or weak seedlings and great economic loss. However, production of healthy seedlings is challenging due to the lack of knowledge in systemic management of nursery environments. In this study, we have established simulation models to predict how temperature and illumination coordinately influence the growth of tomato and cabbage seedlings. Specifically, correlation between seedling quality characteristics (root-shoot ratio, G value (growth function: defined as ratio of whole plant dry weight to days of seedling), healthy indexes) and TEP (thermal effectiveness and photosynthetically active radiation) were explored to establish the models, which were validated with independent test data. Our results suggested that the curve of healthy index 1 (HI1) and TEP fitted well with high coefficient of determination (R2) in both species, indicating that the model is highly reliable. The HI1 simulation models for tomato and cabbage are HI1=0.0009e0.0308TEP–0.0015 and HI1 = 0.0003e0.0671TEP–0.0003, respectively, which can be used for predicting vigors of tomato and cabbage seedlings grown under different temperature and light conditions.

Lamiophlomis rotata (Benth.) Kudo (LR) is an extensively used Chinese herbal medicine. It contains a variety of chemical constituents with significant biological activities that were first recorded in the classical masterpiece of Tibetan Medicine, Somaratsa. In this review, we summarize the information regarding the traditional uses, chemical constituents, pharmacological effects, clinical applications, quality control, toxicology, and pharmacokinetics of LR. At least 223 chemical constituents have been isolated from LR, including phenylethanoid glycosides, flavonoids, iridoids, volatile oils, et al. Their various physiological activities have been demonstrated as analgesic, hemostatic, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, marrow-supplementing, anti-bacterial, and immunity-strengthening. The clinical applications of LR and quality control are also discussed, as well as some existing problems. This article aims to provide more comprehensive information on the chemical composition, pharmacological activity, and clinical application of LR, so as to provide a theoretical basis for the further reasonable development of LR in clinical practice and of new drugs.

The management of patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) remains a challenge with few reliably effective treatments. Chidamide, a new selective HDAC inhibitor, has demonstrated some effectiveness in AML patients. Herein, we reported three patients with R/R AML who were unresponsive to venetoclax plus azacitidine (VA) but were successfully treated with VA when chidamide was added to the regimen. MCL1 is one of the anti-apoptotic proteins. Chidamide targets the MCL1 protein, which may permit venetoclax resistance when upregulated. We determined MCL1 protein expression in different AML cell lines, and chidamide could downregulate MCL1 expression in venetoclax resistance AML cells. In general, our experience showed that the chidamide/VA combination could improve the condition of R/R AML patients who are resistant to VA. Formally evaluating this regimen in R/R AML patients may be meaningful.
