Abstract

We discuss the theoretical and experimental situations for charge symmetry violation (CSV) effects in the elastic scattering of pi+ and pi- on deuterium (D) and 3He/3H. Accurate comparison of data for both types of targets provides evidence for the presence of CSV effects. While there are indications of a CSV effect in deuterium, it is much more pronounced in the case of 3He/3H. We provide a description of the CSV effect on the deuteron in terms of single- and double- scattering amplitudes. The Delta-mass splitting is taken into account. Theoretical predictions are compared with existing experimental data for pi-d scattering; a future article will speak to the pi-three nucleon case., Comment: 16 pages of RevTeX, 7 postscript figures

Abstract

We consider a function $U=e^{-f_0}\prod_j^N f_j^{\alpha_j}$ on a real affine space, here $f_0,..,f_N$ are linear functions, $\alpha_1, ...,\alpha_N$ complex numbers. The zeros of the functions $f_1, ..., f_N$ form an arrangement of hyperplanes in the affine space. We study the period matrix of the hypergeometric integrals associated with the arrangement and the function $U$ and compute its determinant as an alternating product of gamma functions and critical points of the functions $f_0,..., f_N$ with respect to the arrangement. In the simplest example, $N=1, f_0=f_1=t$, the determinant formula takes the form $\int_0^\infty e^{-t} t^{\alpha -1} dt=\Gamma (\alpha).$ We also give a determinant formula for Selberg type exponential integrals. In this case the arangements of hyperplanes is special and admits a symmetry group, the period matrix is decomposed into blocks corresponding to different representations of the symmetry group on the space of the hypergeometric integrals associated with the arrangement. Abstract

The GlueX experiment at Jefferson Lab studies photoproduction of mesons using linearly polarized $8.5\,\text{GeV}$ photons impinging on a hydrogen target which is contained within a detector with near-complete coverage for charged and neutral particles. We present measurements of spin-density matrix elements for the photoproduction of the vector meson $\rho$(770). The statistical precision achieved exceeds that of previous experiments for polarized photoproduction in this energy range by orders of magnitude. We confirm a high degree of $s$-channel helicity conservation at small squared four-momentum transfer $t$ and are able to extract the $t$-dependence of natural and unnatural-parity exchange contributions to the production process in detail. We confirm the dominance of natural-parity exchange over the full $t$ range. We also find that helicity amplitudes in which the helicity of the incident photon and the photoproduced $\rho(770)$ differ by two units are negligible for $-t, Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures

Abstract

We report the total and differential cross sections for $J/\psi$ photoproduction with the large acceptance GlueX spectrometer for photon beam energies from the threshold at 8.2~GeV up to 11.44~GeV and over the full kinematic range of momentum transfer squared, $t$. Such coverage facilitates the extrapolation of the differential cross sections to the forward ($t = 0$) point beyond the physical region. The forward cross section is used by many theoretical models and plays an important role in understanding $J/\psi$ photoproduction and its relation to the $J/\psi-$proton interaction. These measurements of $J/\psi$ photoproduction near threshold are also crucial inputs to theoretical models that are used to study important aspects of the gluon structure of the proton, such as the gluon Generalized Parton Distribution (GPD) of the proton, the mass radius of the proton, and the trace anomaly contribution to the proton mass. We observe possible structures in the total cross section energy dependence and find evidence for contributions beyond gluon exchange in the differential cross section close to threshold, both of which are consistent with contributions from open-charm intermediate states., Comment: 15 pages 18 figures

Abstract

We give an integral representation for solutions to the quantized Knizhnik- Zamolodchikov equation (qKZ) associated with the Lie algebra $gl_{N+1}$. Asymptotic solutions to qKZ are constructed. The leading term of an asymptotic solution is the Bethe vector -- an eigenvector of the transfer-matrix of a quantum spin chain model. We show that the norm of the Bethe vector is equal to the product of the Hessian of a suitable function and an explicitly written rational function. This formula is a generalization of the Gaudin-Korepin formula for a norm of the Bethe vector. 227. Crust and upper mantle conductivity models of the western Ukrainian Shield and their link to tectonic structure and mineralization

Abstract

A dense network of long-period magnetotelluric and magnetovariational data in the period range of 3-16 to 2500-3600s made it possible to explore the geoelectrical structure of the western part of the Ukrainian Shield limited by coordinates 26°-30°E and 48°- 51,7°N. 3D inversion resulted in the creation of spatial models of electrical conductivity for the territory of investigation. The local character of the conductors and their position indicate their connection with recently activated fault zones, their junctions and with metallogeny. The Precambrian age of crystalline rocks of the investigated area refers mainly to the electronic-type graphite-sulphite origin of increased conductivity, however the depth of conductive features, their vertical extent and their link to rejuvenated fault systems may indicate the genetic connection of various minerals and their subsequent precipitation with deep fluid migration. The obtained results correlated with heat flow data are aimed at clarifying the deep structure and linking the geoelectric features of the earth’s crust and upper mantle with fault systems and deposits of various natural mineral sources and can serve as evidence of tectonic processes in the studied area., The 28th IUGG General Assembly (IUGG2023) (Berlin 2023)

233. Broadband EPR Spectroscopy of the Ground Electron State of the Fe4+ Impurity Ion in Amethyst.

Abstract

Fine structure of ground electron state of Fe4+ impurity ion in a natural amethyst crystal was studied by broadband electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy in the frequency range of 34–500 GHz. It is established that energy levels scheme consists of ground quasi-doublet Sz = ± 2, quasi-doublet S z= ± 1 and singlet Sz=0 with zero-field energies ± 4.9 GHz, 435.2 ± 45.4 GHz and 584 GHz, respectively. Parameters of effective spin Hamiltonian describing dependences of electron spin levels on magnetic field are determined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
