218. Lithium titanate hydrates with superfast and stable cycling in lithium ion batteries

Abstract

Lithium titanate and titanium dioxide are two best-known high-performance electrodes that can cycle around 10,000 times in aprotic lithium ion electrolytes. Here we show there exists more lithium titanate hydrates with superfast and stable cycling. That is, water promotes structural diversity and nanostructuring of compounds, but does not necessarily degrade electrochemical cycling stability or performance in aprotic electrolytes. As a lithium ion battery anode, our multi-phase lithium titanate hydrates show a specific capacity of about 130 mA h g⁻¹ at ∼35 C (fully charged within ∼100 s) and sustain more than 10,000 cycles with capacity fade of only 0.001% per cycle. In situ synchrotron diffraction reveals no 2-phase transformations, but a single solid-solution behavior during battery cycling. Abstract

Byline: Zilong Tang, Linfeng Hu, Zhongtai Zhang Pure α-LiAlO2 nanosheets have been successfully prepared by a simple hydrothermal route without adding any surfactants. The morphology of LiAlO2 nanosheets was controllable by adjusting the hydrothermal temperature. Hexagonal and rhombus lithium aluminate nanosheets have been obtained at different hydrothermal temperatures of 150°C and 190°C, respectively. The structure and morphology of the products were characterised by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The synthesis procedure provided a simple method to prepare lithium aluminate with high purity. The formation mechanism of the nanostructural lithium aluminate was proposed.

Abstract

LiFePO4/carbon composite cathode material was prepared by granulating and subsequent pyrolysis processing in N2 atmosphere with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as the carbon source. The influences of carbon content on the microstructure and battery performance were investigated. Single LiFePO4 phase and amorphous carbon can be found in the products. A special micro-morphology of the optimum sample was observed. The discharge capacity of the cell with the optimum cathode was 135 mAh.g−1, close to the charge capacity of 153 mAh.g−1 at 17 mA.g−1. The influence of ambient temperature on the cell capacity was investigated. The temperature dependence of its electrochemical characteristic was evaluated by using AC impedance spectroscopy. A new equivalent circuit based on the charge and mass transfer control process in an electrode was proposed to fit the obtained AC impedance spectra. The tendency of every element in the equivalent circuit was used to interpret the temperature dependence of the capacity of the optimum cathode.

Abstract

Ce3+ -activated SrGa2O4 phosphor was synthesized by a method of citric gel, wherein citric acid served as a chelate agent, and the as-synthesized powder was calcined in a slightly reduced ambient. The crystallization characteristics of the sample varied with the calcining temperature. Compared with the phosphor prepared by the solid-state reaction, the phosphor synthesized by citric gel was calcined at a relatively lower temperature. Consequently, the volatilization of Ga2O3 during high-temperature calcining process was avoided. The typical double-peak emission of Ce3+ originated from 2D(5d)→4F5/2(4f), and 2D(5d)→4F7/2(4f) was observed, and the intrinsic emission of SrGa2O4 host was much restricted. The emission intensity varied with the calcining temperature because the different crystallinity and the optimal concentration of Ce-dopant was determined at 3%.

235. Nanowires-assembled WO3nanomesh for fast detection of ppb-level NO2at low temperature

Abstract

Hierarchical WO3nanomesh, assembled from single-crystalline WO3nanowires, is prepared via a hydrothermal method using thiourea (Tu) as the morphology-controlling agent. Formation of the hierarchical architecture comprising of WO3nanowires takes place via Ostwald ripening mechanism with the growth orientation. The sensor based on WO3nanomesh has good electrical conductivity and is therefore suitable as NO2sensing material. The WO3nanomesh sensor exhibited high response, short response and recovery time, and excellent selectivity towards ppb-level NO2at low temperature of 160 ℃. The superior gas performance of the sensor was attributed to the high-purity hexagonal WO3with high specific surface area, which gives rise to enhanced surface adsorption sites for gas adsorption. The electron depletion theory was used for explaining the NO2-sensing mechanism by the gas adsorption/desorption and charge transfer happened on the surface of WO3nanomesh.

The recent development about using DESs as green solvents in transition metal catalyzed organic reactions was highlighted, and Au, Metal impregnated on magnetite, Pd, Ru catalyzed organic reactions proceeded smoothly in DESs and gave corresponding products in reasonable yields. And in some cases, the catalytic systems could be recycled up to several times.

Abstract

Designing multi-shelled structures is an efficient way to improve the rate performance and cycle stability of transition metal oxides for lithium and sodium storage. However, the sluggish electron transport kinetics caused by the lack of overall conductive networks especially for the inner shells drastically restricts their high-power ability. Herein, a novel multi-shelled V2O3/C composite with an in-built overall carbon scaffold coupled on each of the porous V2O3 thin shells was developed through a simple solvothermal process followed by thermal treatment based on a sequential self-template mechanism. This novel structure simultaneously enables outstanding electrical conductivity, fast ion transport kinetics, and excellent structural stability. As expected, the composite shows a remarkably fast lithium storage ability of 427 mA h g−1 at 5000 mA g−1 and extraordinary cycle stability with 96% retention after 600 cycles, which is one of the best performances among the reported vanadium oxide/carbon composites. Moreover, it also exhibits an excellent sodium storage ability of 173 mA h g−1 after 2000 cycles at 1000 mA g−1. 239. Facile synthesis of a hierarchical manganese oxide hydrate for superior lithium-ion battery anode.

Abstract

Manganese oxides have always been considered as promising high-performance electrodes due to the high specific capacity, low cost, and environmental benignity. Here, we have synthesized a hierarchical manganese oxide hydrate for superior lithium-ion battery anode via a facile liquid precipitation reaction and low-temperature heat treatment. The 2D layered structure with hydration water provides a smooth ion transfer path, while the porous hierarchical architecture constructed of nanosheets with high surface area increases active contact areas, Li+ transportation channels, and structural stability. Upon cycling, the oxidation of manganese and enhanced reaction kinetics can further contribute to the obvious rising capacity, cycling stability, and high-rate capability. Therefore, the manganese oxide hydrate can directly be the desirable products as superior electrodes without high-temperature heat treatment. The comprehensive utilization of structural hydration and hierarchical design offers more insights into the electrochemical reaction mechanisms and more possibilities to develop new materials for lithium-ion batteries. Abstract

A series of novel 2-hydroxyphenyl substituted aminoacetamides was designed by molecular hybridization of the aminoacetamide scaffold and 2-hydroxyphenyl motif. The target compounds were synthesized and their fungicidal activities were evaluated. Some of the target compounds showed excellent antifungal activities against S. sclerotiorum and P. capsici. Significantly, compounds 5e displayed the most potent activity against S. sclerotiorum with EC 50 = 2.89 µg/mL, which was lower than that of commercial chlorothalonil. The systematic studies provided strong confidence that the hydroxyl group and the carbonyl group are crucial for the fungicidal activity. Molecular docking studies suggest that SDH enzyme could be one of the potential action targets of our compounds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ phosphor powder was synthesized using a sol−gel process. Doping Er3+ and Nd3+ in the phosphor can increase the luminescent intensity of the phosphor in the VUV region. The BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ phosphor crystallizes completely when the dried gel is calcined at 1300 °C. The BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ can absorb the VUV efficiently, and Er3+ and Nd3+ ions have great effects on the luminescent properties of BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ phosphor by forming positive charged defects. When a suitable amount of Er3+ or Nd3+ ion is doped in the phosphor, the excitation intensity in the VUV region especially at about 172 nm increases and the luminescent intensity excited by VUV also increases.
