The weak interlayer coupling in van der Waals (vdW) magnets has confined their application to two dimensional (2D) spintronic devices. Here, we demonstrate that the interlayer coupling in a vdW magnet Fe$_3$GeTe$_2$ (FGT) can be largely modulated by a protonic gate.With the increase of the protons intercalated among vdW layers,interlayer magnetic coupling increases.Because of the existence of antiferromagnetic layers in FGT nanoflakes, the increasing interlayer magnetic coupling induces exchange bias in protonated FGT nanoflakes. Most strikingly, a rarely seen zero-field cooled (ZFC) exchange bias with very large values (maximally up to 1.2 kOe) has been observed when higher positive voltages (Vg>4.36 V) are applied to the protonic gate, which clearly demonstrates that a strong interlayer coupling is realized by proton intercalation. In this paper, we study the quasinormal modes of the massless Dirac field for charged black holes in Rastall gravity. The spherically symmetric black hole solutions in question are characterized by the presence of a power-Maxwell field, surrounded by the quintessence fluid. The calculations are carried out by employing the WKB approximations up to the thirteenth order, as well as the matrix method. The temporal evolution of the quasinormal modes is investigated by using the finite difference method. Through numerical simulations, the properties of the quasinormal frequencies are analyzed, including those for the extremal black holes. Among others, we explore the case of a second type of extremal black holes regarding the Nariai solution, where the cosmical and event horizon coincide. The results obtained by the WKB approaches are found to be mostly consistent with those by the matrix method. It is demonstrated that the black hole solutions for Rastall gravity in asymptotically flat spacetimes are equivalent to those in Einstein gravity, featured by different asymptotical spacetime properties. As one of its possible consequences, we also investigate the behavior of the late-time tails of quasinormal models in the present model. It is found that the asymptotical behavior of the late-time tails of quasinormal modes in Rastall theory is governed by the asymptotical properties of the spacetimes of their counterparts in Einstein gravity., Comment: 19 pages, 6 figures, and 2 tables

We report results of muon spin relaxation and rotation ($\mu$SR) experiments on the spin-liquid candidate~YbMgGaO$_{4}$. No static magnetism $\gtrsim 0.003\mu_B$ per Yb ion, ordered or disordered, is observed down to 22~mK, a factor of two lower in temperature than previous measurements. Persistent (temperature-independent) spin dynamics are observed up to 0.20~K and at least 1~kOe, thus extending previous zero-field $\mu$SR results over a substantial region of the $H$-$T$ phase diagram. Knight shift measurements in a 10-kOe transverse field reveal two lines with nearly equal amplitudes. Inhomogeneous muon depolarization in a longitudinal field, previously characterized by stretched-exponential relaxation due to spatial inhomogeneity, is fit equally well with two exponentials, also of equal amplitudes. We attribute these results to two interstitial muon sites in the unit cell, rather than disorder or other spatial distribution. Further evidence for this attribution is found from agreement between the ratio of the two measured relaxation rates and calculated mean-square local Yb$^{3+}$ dipolar fields at candidate muon sites. Zero-field data can be understood as a combination of two-exponential dynamic relaxation and quasistatic nuclear dipolar fields.

The recent isolation of two-dimensional van der Waals magnetic materials has uncovered rich physics that often differs from the magnetic behaviour of their bulk counterparts. However, the microscopic details of fundamental processes such as the initial magnetization or domain reversal, which govern the magnetic hysteresis, remain largely unknown in the ultrathin limit. Here we employ a widefield nitrogen-vacancy (NV) microscope to directly image these processes in few-layer flakes of magnetic semiconductor vanadium triiodide (VI$_3$). We observe complete and abrupt switching of most flakes at fields $H_c\approx0.5-1$ T (at 5 K) independent of thickness down to two atomic layers, with no intermediate partially-reversed state. The coercive field decreases as the temperature approaches the Curie temperature ($T_c\approx50$ K), however, the switching remains abrupt. We then image the initial magnetization process, which reveals thickness-dependent domain wall depinning fields well below $H_c$. These results point to ultrathin VI$_3$ being a nucleation-type hard ferromagnet, where the coercive field is set by the anisotropy-limited domain wall nucleation field. This work illustrates the power of widefield NV microscopy to investigate magnetization processes in van der Waals ferromagnets, which could be used to elucidate the origin of the hard ferromagnetic properties of other materials and explore field- and current-driven domain wall dynamics., Comment: includes SI

Cloud DBs offer strong properties, including serializability, sometimes called the gold standard database correctness property. But cloud DBs are complicated black boxes, running in a different administrative domain from their clients; thus, clients might like to know whether the DBs are meeting their contract. A core difficulty is that the underlying problem here, namely verifying serializability, is NP-complete. Nevertheless, we hypothesize that on real-world workloads, verifying serializability is tractable, and we treat the question as a systems problem, for the first time. We build Cobra, which tames the underlying search problem by blending a new encoding of the problem, hardware acceleration, and a careful choice of a suitable SMT solver. cobra also introduces a technique to address the challenge of garbage collection in this context. cobra improves over natural baselines by at least 10x in the problem size it can handle, while imposing modest overhead on clients.

Emergent quantum phases driven by electronic interactions can manifest in materials with narrowly dispersing, i.e. "flat", energy bands. Recently, flat bands have been realized in a variety of graphene-based heterostructures using the tuning parameters of twist angle, layer stacking and pressure, and resulting in correlated insulator and superconducting states. Here we report the experimental observation of similar correlated phenomena in twisted bilayer tungsten diselenide (tWSe2), a semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD). Unlike twisted bilayer graphene where the flat band appears only within a narrow range around a "magic angle", we observe correlated states over a continuum of angles, spanning 4 degree to 5.1 degree. A Mott-like insulator appears at half band filling that can be sensitively tuned with displacement field. Hall measurements supported by ab initio calculations suggest that the strength of the insulator is driven by the density of states at half filling, consistent with a 2D Hubbard model in a regime of moderate interactions. At 5.1 degree twist, we observe evidence of superconductivity upon doping away from half filling, reaching zero resistivity around 3 K. Our results establish twisted bilayer TMDs as a model system to study interaction-driven phenomena in flat bands with dynamically tunable interactions.

The Pr-rich end of the alloy series Pr$_{1-x}$Nd$_x$Os$_4$Sb$_{12}$ has been studied using muon spin rotation and relaxation. The end compound PrOs$_4$Sb$_{12}$ is an unconventional heavy-fermion superconductor, which exhibits a spontaneous magnetic field in the superconducting phase associated with broken time-reversal symmetry. No spontaneous field is observed in the Nd-doped alloys for x $>$ 0.05. The superfluid density is insensitive to Nd concentration, and no Nd$^{3+}$ static magnetism is found down to the lowest temperatures of measurement. Together with the slow suppression of the superconducting transition temperature with Nd doping, these results suggest anomalously weak coupling between Nd spins and conduction-band states., Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures

Electronic transport in the regime where carrier-carrier collisions are the dominant scattering mechanism has taken on new relevance with the advent of ultraclean two-dimensional materials. Here we present a combined theoretical and experimental study of ambipolar hydrodynamic transport in bilayer graphene demonstrating that the conductivity is given by the sum of two Drude-like terms that describe relative motion between electrons and holes, and the collective motion of the electron-hole plasma. As predicted, the measured conductivity of gapless, charge-neutral bilayer graphene is sample- and temperature-independent over a wide range. Away from neutrality, the electron-hole conductivity collapses to a single curve, and a set of just four fitting parameters provides quantitative agreement between theory and experiment at all densities, temperatures, and gaps measured. This work validates recent theories for dissipation-enabled hydrodynamic conductivity and creates a link between semiconductor physics and the emerging field of viscous electronics., Comment: Completely rewritten. Van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnetic materials are rapidly establishing themselves as effective building blocks for next generation spintronic devices. When layered with non-magnetic vdW materials, such as graphene and/or topological insulators, vdW heterostructures can be assembled (with no requirement for lattice matching) to provide otherwise unattainable device structures and functionalities. We report a hitherto rarely seen antisymmetric magnetoresistance (MR) effect in van der Waals heterostructured Fe3GeTe2/graphite/Fe3GeTe2 devices. Unlike conventional giant magnetoresistance (GMR) which is characterized by two resistance states, the MR in these vdW heterostructures features distinct high, intermediate and low resistance states. This unique characteristic is suggestive of underlying physical mechanisms that differ from those observed before. After theoretical calculations, the three resistance behavior was attributed to a spin momentum locking induced spin polarized current at the graphite/FGT interface. Our work reveals that ferromagnetic heterostructures assembled from vdW materials can exhibit substantially different properties to those exhibited by similar heterostructures grown in vacuum. We report a muon spin rotation ($\mu$SR) study of the cuprate-analog nickelate La$_4$Ni$_3$O$_8$, which undergoes a transition at 105 K to a low-temperature phase with charge-stripe and antiferromagnetic (AFM) order on square planar NiO$_2$ layers. Zero-field $\mu$SR shows that this transition is abrupt and that the AFM configuration is commensurate. Comparison of observed muon precession frequencies with Ni dipolar field calculations yields Ni moments $\lesssim 0.5\mu_B$. Dynamic muon spin relaxation above 105 K suggests critical slowing of Ni spin fluctuations, but is inconsistent with corresponding $^{139}$La NMR results. Critical slowing and an abrupt transition are also observed in the planar cuprate AFM La$_2$CuO$_{4+\delta}$, where they are evidence for weakly interplanar-coupled two-dimensional AFM spin fluctuations, but our $\mu$SR data do not agree quantitatively with theoretical predictions for this scenario., Comment: 17 pages, 25 figures, 49 references; under review by PRB

The superconducting state of the filled skutterudite alloy series Pr$_{1-x}$La$_{x}$Pt$_{4}$Ge$_{12}$ has been systematically studied by specific heat, zero-field muon spin relaxation ($\mu$SR), and superconducting critical field measurements. An additional inhomogeneous local magnetic field, indicative of broken time-reversal symmetry (TRS), is observed in the superconducting states of the alloys. For $x \lesssim 0.5$ the broken-TRS phase sets in below a temperature $T_m$ distinctly lower than the superconducting transition temperature $T_c$. For $x \gtrsim 0.5$ $T_m \approx T_c$. The local field strength decreases as $x \to 1$, where LaPt$_{4}$Ge$_{12}$ is characterized by conventional pairing. The lower critical field $H_{c1}(T)$ of PrPt$_{4}$Ge$_{12}$ shows the onset of a second quadratic temperature region below $T_q \sim T_m$. Upper critical field $H_{c2}(T)$ measurements suggest multiband superconductivity, and point gap nodes are consistent with the specific heat data. In Pr$_{1-x}$La$_{x}$Pt$_{4}$Ge$_{12}$ only a single specific heat discontinuity is observed at $T_c$, in contrast to the second jump seen in PrOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ below $T_c$. These results suggest that superconductivity in PrPt$_{4}$Ge$_{12}$ is characterized by a complex order parameter.

Decentralized Internet is booming. People are fascinated by its promise that users can truly own their data. However, in a decentralized Internet, completing a task usually involves multiple nodes with mutual distrust. Such distrust might eventually become a major obstacle for the growth of the decentralized Internet. In this paper, we analyze the distrust using a simple model and highlight the properties required to faithfully accomplish one task in a decentralized Internet. We also introduce our draft solution -- PIXIU, a framework to mitigate the distrust among different nodes. In PIXIU, we design and utilize trust-{\lambda} and decentralized executor to achieve the above-needed properties.

In this paper, we mainly investigate an integrated system operating under a software defined network (SDN) protocol. SDN is a new networking paradigm in which network intelligence is centrally administered and data is communicated via channels that are physically separated from those conveying user data. Under the SDN architecture, it is feasible to set up multiple flows for transmitting control signals to an actuator with high priority for each individual application. While each flow may suffer random transmission delay, we focus on the stabilization problem under the joint design of the event-driven strategy in actuator and the control policy in decision-maker. By introducing a predefined application time, the integrated system can be reformulated as the form of stochastic system with input delay and multiplicative noise. For such system, we propose a set of necessary and sufficient stabilization conditions. Specifically, for the scalar system, we derive the allowable sampling period bound that can guarantee stabilization in terms of the probability distributions of the random transmission delays. A simple example is included to show the performance of our theoretic results.

In this paper, we study a wireless networked control system (WNCS) with $N \ge 2$ sub-systems sharing a common wireless channel. Each sub-system consists of a plant and a controller and the control message must be delivered from the controller to the plant through the shared wireless channel. The wireless channel is unreliable due to interference and fading. As a result, a packet can be successfully delivered in a slot with a certain probability. A network scheduling policy determines how to transmit those control messages generated by such $N$ sub-systems and directly influences the transmission delay of control messages. We first consider the case that all sub-systems have the same sampling period. We characterize the stability condition of such a WNCS under the joint design of the control policy and the network scheduling policy by means of $2^N$ linear inequalities. We further simplify the stability condition into only one linear inequality for two special cases: the perfect-channel case where the wireless channel can successfully deliver a control message with certainty in each slot, and the symmetric-structure case where all sub-systems have identical system parameters. We then consider the case that different sub-systems can have different sampling periods, where we characterize a sufficient condition for stability.

In this paper, we propose a learning approach to analyze dynamic systems with asymmetric information structure. Instead of adopting a game theoretic setting, we investigate an online quadratic optimization problem driven by system noises with unknown statistics. Due to information asymmetry, it is infeasible to use classic Kalman filter nor optimal control strategies for such systems. It is necessary and beneficial to develop a robust approach that learns the probability statistics as time goes forward. Motivated by online convex optimization (OCO) theory, we introduce the notion of regret, which is defined as the cumulative performance loss difference between the optimal offline known statistics cost and the optimal online unknown statistics cost. By utilizing dynamic programming and linear minimum mean square biased estimate (LMMSUE), we propose a new type of online state feedback control policies and characterize the behavior of regret in finite time regime. The regret is shown to be sub-linear and bounded by O(ln T). Moreover, we address an online optimization problem with output feedback control policies.
