We report successive and large-scale synthesis of InP/ZnS core/shell nanocrystal quantum dots (QDs) using a customized hybrid flow reactor, which is based on serial combination of a batch-type mixer and a flow-type furnace. InP cores and InP/ZnS core/shell QDs were successively synthesized in the hybrid reactor in a simple one-step process. In this reactor, the flow rate of the solutions was typically 1 ml min-1, 100 times larger than that of conventional microfluidic reactors. In order to synthesize high-quality InP/ZnS QDs, we controlled both the flow rate and the crystal growth temperature. Finally, we obtained high-quality InP/ZnS QDs in colors from bluish green to red, and we demonstrated that these core/shell QDs could be incorporated into white-light-emitting diode (LED) devices to improve color rendering performance. We present a colloidal route for the synthesis of ultrathin ZrS2 (UT-ZrS2) nanodiscs that are ∼1.6 nm thick and consist of approximately two unit cells of S-Zr-S. The lateral size of the discs can be tuned to 20, 35, or 60 nm while their thickness is kept constant. Under the appropriate conditions, these individual discs can self- assemble into face-to-face-stacked structures containing multiple discs. Because the S-Zr-S layers within individual discs are held together by weak van der Waals interactions, each UT-ZrS2 disc provides spaces that can serve as host sites for intercalation. `When we tested UT-ZrS2 discs as anodic materials for Li+ intercalation, they showed excellent nanoscale size effects, enhancing the discharge capacity by 230% and greatly improving the stability in comparison with bulk ZrS2. The nanoscale size effect was especially prom!- nent for their performance in fast charging/discharging cycles, where an 88% average recovery of reversible capacity was observed for UT-ZrS2 discs with a lateral diameter of 20 nm. The nanoscale thickness and lateral size of UT-ZrS2 discs are critical for fast and reliable intercalation cycling because those dimensions both increase the surface area and provide open edges that enhance the diffusion kinetics for guest molecules. This article examines the effect of the thiol-thiolate equilibrium on the photophysical properties of aqueous nanocrystal quantum dots (NQD) of zinc sulphide. It is believed that hydrophobic NQDs are soluble in a variety of nonpolar solvents. Transfer from the organic phase to the aqueous phase can be effected by ligand exchange. In the most frequently used and simplest procedure, the original ligands are replaced with bifunctional thiol ligands. This method has been widely used in biomolecular tagging and biosensing applications.

We developed a novel and easy encapsulation method for quantum dots (QDs) using a partially oxidized semi-crystalline polymeric material which forms a micron-sized granule with a multi-lamellar structure from a dilute solution. The QDs were highly dispersed in the granule in such a way that they were adsorbed on the lamella with ∼12 nm spacing followed by lamellar stacking. The QDs were heavily loaded into the granule to 16.7 wt% without aggregation, a process which took only a few minutes. We found that the quantum yield of the QDs was not degraded after the encapsulation. The encapsulated QD–silicone composite exhibited excellent long-term photo- and thermal stability with its initial photoluminescence intensity maintained after blue LED light radiation for 67 days and storage at 85 °C and 85% relative humidity for 119 days. We report the novel assembly method of CdSe quantum dot (QD)/pyridine/multi-walled carbon nanotube (CdSe-py-MWNT) hybrid material between electrodes using two-step dielectrophoresis (DEP). At the first step, we assembled the individual MWNT between electrodes by the DEP method. At the second step, the CdSe-py materials were assembled onto the MWNT by DEP method again, which enables site specific and density controlled assembly of QDs. As the photoresponse results, the recovery time of the device fabricated was about 250 times faster than that of a similar CdSe-py-SWNT device using a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) instead of a MWNT. Moreover, it was demonstrated that the optoelectronic property of the device could be modulated by the size of CdSe NQD assembled on a MWNT. The article presents a study of an artificial stimulus (AS)-response system developed with conscious response. Topics discussed include the use of quantum dot (QD) photodiode, retentive electric double layer (EDL) and artificial neuron (AN) circuits based on complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) in the system, role of the biological synapse in the stimulus-response system in the AS, and the role of the AN circuit in converting incident light signals into electrical pulse signals.
