[PHYS.NEXP]Physics [physics]/Nuclear Experiment [nucl-ex] - Abstract
International audience; The neutron-rich S39 nucleus has been studied using binary grazing reactions produced by the interaction of a 215-MeV beam of S36 ions with a thin Pb208 target. The magnetic spectrometer, PRISMA, and the γ-ray array, CLARA, were used in the measurements. Gamma-ray transitions of the following energies were observed: 339, 398, 466, 705, 1517, 1656, and 1724 keV. Five of the observed transitions have been tentatively assigned to the decay of excited states with spins up to (11/2−). The results of a state-of-the-art shell-model calculation of the level scheme of S39 using the SDPF-U effective interaction are also presented. The systematic behavior of the excitation energy of the first 11/2− states in the odd-A isotopes of sulfur and argon is discussed in relation to the excitation energy of the first excited 2+ states of the adjacent even-A isotopes. The states of S39 that have the components in their wave functions corresponding to three neutrons in the 1f7/2 orbital outside the N=20 core have also been discussed within the context of the 0 ℏω shell-model calculations presented here.

The α decay of 222Th populating the low-lying J π = 3− state, and also a proposed 1− state, in 218Ra has been observed. The observations suggest an excitation energy of 853 keV for the 1− state, which is 60 keV above the 3− state. The hindrance factors of these α decays give a possible boundary to the region of ground-state octupole deformation in the light-actinide nuclei. The relative positions of the J π = 1− and 3− states suggest they are produced by an octupole-vibrational mechanism, as opposed to α clustering or rotations of a reflection-asymmetric octupole-deformed shape. peerReviewed

Nuclear and High Energy Physics ,[PHYS.NEXP]Physics [physics]/Nuclear Experiment [nucl-ex] ,Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
International audience; The neutron-rich nuclei P34,35,36,37,38 were populated in binary grazing reactions initiated by a beam of S36 ions at 215 MeV incident on a thin Pb208 target. The combination of the PRISMA magnetic spectrometer and the CLARA array of escape-suppressed Ge detectors was used to detect γ rays in coincidence with projectile-like nuclear species. Further evidence to support the observed γ decay of excited states of the populated phosphorus isotopes is provided by γ−γ coincidence measurements based on the results of an earlier thick-target deep-inelastic experiment. Level schemes for P34,35,36,37,38 are presented and discussed within the context of state-of-the-art shell-model calculations. In particular, new spin and parity assignments are proposed for a number of excited states of P36. The evolution with neutron number of the energy difference of the low-lying Jπ=3/2+ and 1/2+ states in the odd-A isotopes of phosphorus, as well as the relationship to nuclear collectivity, is discussed. The evolution with neutron number of the shell-model wave functions of the first Jπ=1/2+, 3/2+, and 5/2+ states of the odd-A phosphorus isotopes and of the first Jπ=3−, 4−, and 5− states of the even-A isotopes is also explored.

The work reports several new excited states in the neutron-rich
147 La nucleus, populated in spontaneous fission of252 Cf. The excitation scheme has been reinvestigated by means of γ-ray spectroscopy, using high-fold γ coincidences measured with the Gammasphere array of Ge detectors. It is shown that the 229.65-keV level has spin and parity 11/2- , which changes the 9/2- spin-parity reported in a recent evaluation and sets up the spinparity of the ground state as 5/2+ . New levels allow to arrange the excitation scheme of147 La into a parity-doublet-like structure showing that the147 La nucleus may have an octupole deformation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
WOS: 000311537600003, High-spin states of K-40 have been populated in the fusion-evaporation reaction C-12(Si-30,np)K-40 and studied by means of gamma-ray spectroscopy techniques using one triple-cluster detector of the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array at the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. Several states with excitation energy up to 8 MeV and spin up to 10(-) have been discovered. These states are discussed in terms of J = 3 and T = 0 neutron-proton hole pairs. Shell-model calculations in a large model space have shown good agreement with the experimental data for most of the energy levels. The evolution of the structure of this nucleus is here studied as a function of excitation energy and angular momentum., EURONS AGATA [506065-R113]; Swedish Research Council [621-2008-4163, 621-2011-4522, 822-2005-3332, 821-2010-6024]; Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Kakenhi [23.01752]; Ankara University [05B4240002]; Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education [DPN/N190/AGATA/2009, N N202 073935]; German BMBF [06K-167, 06KY205I, 06KY9136I]; Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation [2005.0184]; STFC (UK); MICINN, Spain; INFN, Italy [AIC-D-2011-0746]; Generalitat Valenciana, Spain [PROMETEO/2010/101]; MICINN, Spain [FPA2011-29854]; Comunidad de Madrid (Spain) [HEPHACOS S2009-ESP-1473]; Center for Advanced Studies of Warsaw University of Technology; Goran Gustafsson Foundation; Science and Technology Facilities Council [ST/G000727/1, ST/F004060/1, ST/I504959/1, ST/J000159/1, NuSTAR, ST/I504916/1, ST/J000108/1, ST/F004052/1, ST/J000094/1, ST/F004192/1, ST/F006950/1, ST/J000051/1], We thank the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC) and the Uppsala Multidisciplinary Center for Advanced Computational Science (UPPMAX) for the computer resources used in parts of the analysis. WOS: 000310091000001, The level structures of the N = 50 As-83, Ge-82, and Ga-81 isotones have been investigated by means of multi-nucleon transfer reactions. A first experiment was performed with the CLARA PRISMA setup to identify these nuclei. A second experiment was carried out with the GASP array in order to deduce the gamma-ray coincidence information. The results obtained on the high-spin states of such nuclei are used to test the stability of the N = 50 shell closure in the region of Ni-78 (Z = 28). The comparison of the experimental level schemes with the shell-model calculations yields an N = 50 energy gap value of 4.7(3) MeV at Z = 28. This value, in a good agreement with the prediction of the finite-range liquid-drop model as well as with the recent large-scale shell model calculations, does not support a weakening of the N = 50 shell gap down to Z = 28. - Abstract
The alpha decay of Th-222 populating the low-lying J(pi) = 3(-) state, and also a proposed 1(-) state, in Ra-218 has been observed. The observations suggest an excitation energy of 853 keV for the 1(-) state, which is 60 keV above the 3(-) state. The hindrance factors of these alpha decays give a possible boundary to the region of ground-state octupole deformation in the light-actinide nuclei. The relative positions of the J(pi) = 1(-) and 3(-) states suggest they are produced by an octupole-vibrational mechanism, as opposed to alpha clustering or rotations of a reflection-asymmetric octupole-deformed shape., QC 20160819

- Abstract
We have applied the fast timing beta gamma gamma(t) technique to remeasure lifetimes of selected states in Ra-223 populated in the beta(-) decay of Fr-223. T-1/2 = 587(12) ps and 210(13) ps have been obtained for the 3/2(-) and 5/2(-) states at 50.1 and 79.7 keV, that are more accurate than the previous values of 630(70) ps and 166(55) ps, respectively. Our vertical bar D0 vertical bar value of 0.155(10) e.fm obtained for the K = 3/2 configuration together with the available values of vertical bar D0 vertical bar for the K = 1/2 and K = 5/2 parity doublet bands establish the configuration dependence of vertical bar D0 vertical bar at low spins in this nucleus. Results of theoretical calculations performed for Ra-223, using the quasiparticle-phonon model (QPM) with inclusion of the Coriolis coupling, reasonably well reproduce octupole correlations in this nucleus.

- Abstract
Detailed spectroscopic information on the N similar to 82 nuclei is necessary to benchmark shell-model calculations in the region. The nuclear structure above long-lived isomers in Xe-134 is investigated after multinucleon transfer (MNT) and actinide fission. Xenon-134 was populated as (i) a transfer product in Xe-136 + U-238 and Xe-136 + Pb-208 MNT reactions and (ii) as a fission product in the Xe-136 + U-238 reaction employing the high-resolution Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA). Trajectory reconstruction has been applied for the complete identification of beamlike transfer products with the magnetic spectrometer PRISMA. The Xe-136 + Pt-198 MNT reaction was studied with the gamma-ray spectrometer GAMMASPHERE in combination with the gas detector array Compact Heavy Ion Counter (CHICO). Several high-spin states in Xe-134 on top of the two long-lived isomers are discovered based on gamma gamma-coincidence relationships and information on the gamma-ray angular distributions as well as excitation energies from the total kinetic energy loss and fission fragments. The revised level scheme of Xe-134 is extended up to an

- Abstract
The lifetime of the (11/2(+)) state in the band above the proton-emitting (3/2(+)) state in Cs-113 has been measured to be tau = 24(6) ps from a recoil-decay-tagged differential-plunger experiment. The measured lifetime was used to deduce the deformation of the states using wave functions from a nonadiabatic quasiparticle model to independently calculate both proton-emission and electromagnetic gamma-ray transition rates as a function of deformation. The only quadrupole deformation, which was able to reproduce the experimental excitation energies of the states, the electromagnetic decay rate of the (11/2(+)) state and the proton-emission rate of the (3/2(+)) state, was found to be beta(2) = 0.22(6). This deformation is in agreement with the earlier proton emission studies which concluded that Cs-113 was best described as a deformed proton emitter, however, it is now more firmly supported by the present measurement of the electromagnetic transition rate.
