223. Terpenoids from the Coral-Derived Fungus Trichoderma harzianum (XS-20090075) Induced by Chemical Epigenetic Manipulation

Abstract

The soft coral-derived fungus Trichoderma harzianum (XS-20090075) was found to be a potential strain to produce substantial new compounds in our previous study. In order to explore its potential to produce more metabolites, chemical epigenetic manipulation was used on this fungus to wake its sleeping genes, leading to the significant changes of its secondary metabolites by using a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor. The most obvious difference was the original main products harziane diterpenoids were changed into cyclonerane sesquiterpenoids. Three new terpenoids were isolated from the fungal culture treated with 10 mM sodium butyrate, including cleistanthane diterpenoid, harzianolic acid A (1), harziane diterpenoid, harzianone E (2), and cyclonerane sesquiterpenoid, 3,7,11-trihydroxy-cycloneran (3), together with 11 known sesquiterpenoids (4-14). The absolute configurations of 1-3 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, ECD and OR calculations, and biogenetic considerations. This was the first time to obtain cleistanthane diterpenoid and africane sesquiterpenoid from genus Trichoderma, and this was the first chlorinated cleistanthane diterpenoid. These results demonstrated that the chemical epigenetic manipulation should be an efficient technique for the discovery of new secondary metabolites from marine-derived fungi.

Abstract

The FLUXNET2015 dataset provides ecosystem-scale data on CO2, water, and energy exchange between the biosphere and the atmosphere, and other meteorological and biological measurements, from 212 sites around the globe (over 1500 site-years, up to and including year 2014). These sites, independently managed and operated, voluntarily contributed their data to create global datasets. Data were quality controlled and processed using uniform methods, to improve consistency and intercomparability across sites. The dataset is already being used in a number of applications, including ecophysiology studies, remote sensing studies, and development of ecosystem and Earth system models. FLUXNET2015 includes derived-data products, such as gap-filled time series, ecosystem respiration and photosynthetic uptake estimates, estimation of uncertainties, and metadata about the measurements, presented for the first time in this paper. In addition, 206 of these sites are for the first time distributed under a Creative Commons (CC-BY 4.0) license. This paper details this enhanced dataset and the processing methods, now made available as open-source codes, making the dataset more accessible, transparent, and reproducible.

Abstract

The FLUXNET2015 dataset provides ecosystem-scale data on CO2, water, and energy exchange between the biosphere and the atmosphere, and other meteorological and biological measurements, from 212 sites around the globe (over 1500 site-years, up to and including year 2014). These sites, independently managed and operated, voluntarily contributed their data to create global datasets. Data were quality controlled and processed using uniform methods, to improve consistency and intercomparability across sites. The dataset is already being used in a number of applications, including ecophysiology studies, remote sensing studies, and development of ecosystem and Earth system models. FLUXNET2015 includes derived-data products, such as gap-filled time series, ecosystem respiration and photosynthetic uptake estimates, estimation of uncertainties, and metadata about the measurements, presented for the first time in this paper. In addition, 206 of these sites are for the first time distributed under a Creative Commons (CC-BY 4.0) license. This paper details this enhanced dataset and the processing methods, now made available as open-source codes, making the dataset more accessible, transparent, and reproducible.

233. Tunable and broadband asymmetric sound absorptions with coupling of acoustic bright and dark modes

Abstract

© 2020 Elsevier Ltd We propose a strategy for constructing an asymmetric sound absorber by coupling two mutually tuned dark and bright modes. The subsequent requirement is that the dark mode must be strongly dissipative to consume sound energy, whereas the bright mode exhibit weak damping and be characterized as an effective soft boundary to block the sound energy into the exit port. Thus, the system provides an absorbing response to sound incident from the port near the dark mode but a reflecting response to sound from the opposite port. We theoretically and experimentally demonstrate the asymmetric absorber in a straight waveguide shunted by Helmholtz resonators (HRs), in which the bright–dark modes are served by the HRs with different short neck radii. The asymmetry is further enhanced by coupling additional modes with a moderate loss factor set in between. Moreover, the operation frequency of the asymmetric absorptions can be reconfigured by the synchronously varied HR specimens along with the cavity depth, which guarantees the construction of an asymmetric broadband absorber by means of the parallel coupling of four enhanced asymmetric absorptive systems. Our investigations offer an efficient means of asymmetrically manipulating sound absorption/reflection and provide a sound absorber with superior characteristics to the traditional single-port absorber.

Abstract

Suppressing broadband low-frequency sound has great scientific and engineering significance. However, normal porous acoustic materials backed by a rigid wall cannot really play its deserved role on low-frequency sound absorption. Here, we demonstrate that an ultrathin sponge coating can achieve high-efficiency absorptions if backed by a metasurface with moderate surface impedance. Such a metasurface is constructed in a wide frequency range by integrating three types of coiled space resonators. By coupling an ultrathin sponge coating with the designed metasurface, a deep-subwavelength broadband absorber with high absorptivity ([Formula: see text]) exceeding one octave from 185 Hz to 385 Hz (with wavelength [Formula: see text] from 17.7 to 8.5 times of thickness of the absorber) has been demonstrated theoretically and experimentally. The construction mechanism is analyzed via coupled mode theory. The study provides a practical way in constructing broadband low-frequency sound absorber.

Abstract

Left-turn conflicts impact considerably the security and capacity of intersections. There are many practices to decrease conflicts and improve the efficiency of intersections, such as continuous flow intersection (CFI), contraflow left-turn lane, U-tum etc., however, the method of installing waiting areas (WAs) is common in China and it is easier to be accepted by Chinese drivers. Many studies have shown either theoretically or via simulation that WAs improve the traffic capacity greatly. However, few have considered how the vehicle startup process and red clearance interval differ for lanes with and without WAs. Comparing the start-up lost time of intersections with and without WAs, This work explores the difference of clearance interval between intersections with and without WAs by conflict method, then establishes a modified capacity model about lanes with WAs. Finally, through field investigation of an intersection with left-turn WAs in Zhengzhou, the parameters needed for the modified model are determined. It is shown that the capacity of a lane with a 29-m WA and 18-s green time is increased by only 8.9%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since 1971, the Protein Data Bank (PDB) archive has served as the single, global repository for open access to atomic-level data for biological macromolecules. Knowing the 3D structure of a biological macromolecule is essential for understanding the molecule's function, providing insights in health and disease, food and energy production, and other topics of concern to prosperity and sustainability. PDB data are freely and publicly available, without restrictions on usage. Through bibliometric and usage studies, we sought to determine the impact of the PDB across disciplines and demographics. Our analysis shows that even though research areas such as molecular biology and biochemistry account for the most usage, other fields are increasingly using PDB resources. PDB usage is seen across 150 disciplines in applied sciences, humanities, and social sciences. Data are also re-used and integrated with >400 resources. Our study identifies trends in PDB usage and documents its utility across research disciplines.

250. Association of glutathione S-transferase T1, M1, and P1 polymorphisms in the breast cancer risk: a meta-analysis

Abstract

We therefore performed a meta-analysis to clarify this issue.Materials and methods: An updated meta-analysis using PubMed and Web of Knowledge databases for the eligible case–control studies was performed. Random- or fixed-effects model was used.Results: A total of 10,067 cancer cases and 12,276 controls in 41 independent case–control studies from 19 articles were included in this meta-analysis. Significant increase in risk of breast cancer for Asians was found in GSTM1-null genotype (P=0.012, odds ratio [OR]=1.17, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.04–1.32) and GSTT1-null genotype (P=0.039, OR=1.19, 95% CI=1.01–1.41). In addition, our results showed that the GSTP1 (rs1695) polymorphisms can significantly increase the risk among Caucasians (P=0.042, OR=1.16, 95% CI=1.01–1.34). Sensitivity analysis and publication bias further confirmed the dependability of the results in this meta-analysis.Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that both GSTM1- and GSTT1-null polymorphisms are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer in Asians and that GSTP1 Val105Ile (rs1695) polymorphism is associated with an increased breast cancer risk in Caucasians.
