Referees in sports games have a high level of responsibility as they have to make correct and appropriate decisions at any point during a match. Regarding referees’ decision-making (RDM) as a perceptual-cognitive process, evidence suggests that physical load might reduce cognitive performance and thus might reduce RDM performance as well. In consideration of increasing game dynamics, referees have to cope with high physical load, but they have to make correct and appropriate decisions further on. Here, we review the current state of research on the relationship between physical load and RDM. A scoping review was performed, in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, using the following databases: Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science (all databases), SURF and SPONET (both with an English and German search). Only primary studies written in English or German that investigated the relationship between physical load and RDM in sports games were included. Eleven studies included in the review investigated six physical parameters and RDM: match period, velocity, blood lactate, running time, heart rate, distance covered. Most findings of the studies showed no relationship between physical load and RDM (n = 18). Thirteen findings suggest a negative relationship and three findings indicate a positive relationship between physical load and RDM. Results of the scoping review show contradictory evidence across and within investigated different physical parameters. As RDM consists of multi-factorial components, it is recommended to conduct systematic research programs – field as well as experimental studies – to resolve the missing control of potential confounding variables and to consider the difference of internal and external load.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic represents a considerable risk for the general public and especially for health care workers. To avoid an overloading of the health care system and to control transmission chains, the development of rapid and cost-effective techniques allowing for the reliable diagnosis of individuals with acute respiratory infections are crucial. Uniquely, the present study focuses on the development of a direct face mask sampling approach, as worn (i.e., used) disposable face masks contain exogenous environmental constituents, as well as endogenously exhaled breath aerosols. Optical techniques—and specifically infrared (IR) molecular spectroscopic techniques—are promising tools for direct virus detection at the surface of such masks. In the present study, a rapid and non-destructive approach for monitoring exposure scenarios via medical face masks using attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy is presented. Complementarily, IR external reflection spectroscopy was evaluated in comparison for rapid mask analysis. The utility of a face mask-based sampling approach was demonstrated by differentiating water, proteins, and virus-like particles sampled onto the mask. Data analysis using multivariate statistical algorithms enabled unambiguously classifying spectral signatures of individual components and biospecies. This approach has the potential to be extended towards the rapid detection of SARS-CoV-2—as shown herein for the example of virus-like particles which are morphologically equivalent to authentic virus—without any additional sample preparation or elaborate testing equipment at laboratory facilities. Therefore, this strategy may be implemented as a routine large-scale monitoring routine, e.g., at health care institutions, nursing homes, etc. ensuring the health and safety of medical personnel.

175 Background: Abiraterone(A) and enzalutamide(E), both oral androgen receptor targeted agents, are available as first-line treatment options for mCRPC patients. Direct comparisons of efficacy have not been performed for mCRPC patients primarily receiving their cancer care outside of academic centers or integrated health care systems. The study aims to evaluate the real-world effectiveness between first-line A and E-containing regimens in mCRPC patients primarily receiving care in the US community oncology setting. Methods: Patients were selected from ConcertAI Patient 360 Prostate data product, a large de-identified database of deeply curated EHR RWD, sourced from data sharing agreements with community oncology practices. mCRPC patients treated with a first-line A or E-cont. regimen between 1/2011 and 6/2022 were included. OS, TTNT, TTD outcomes were described using KM estimates and evaluated with Cox proportional hazard (HR) model. Confounding was addressed with inverse probability treatment weighting (IPTW) propensity scores based on age, BMI, ECOG, prior anti-androgen exposure, smoking status, comorbidities, and nadir PSA. Sensitivity analysis evaluated KM and HR for each covariate strata. Hazard ratios were also evaluated with multiple imputation by chained equations for missing covariates. Results: From 3,578 mCRPC patients, 1,210 (33.8%) received E-cont. regimen and 1,357 (37.9%) received A-cont. regimen(ref) with a median of 8 months duration for both drugs. Adjusted HR (aHR) for all three outcomes showed a slight increase in effectiveness for E albeit not significant (OS (aHR 0.99, CI 0.87-1.12), TTNT (aHR 0.98, CI 0.89-1.08). Adjusted model including imputation (iHR) supported unimputed results (OS (iHR 0.97, CI 0.88-1.07), TTNT (aHR 0.94, CI 0.9-1.10). The HRs for OS, TTNT and TTD in sicker patients were consistent (2+ ECOG TTNT (aHR 0.95, 0.81-1.12)), (BMI >30, TTNT (aHR 0.84, 0.61-1.18)), and reached significance for some models (2+ ECOG TTD (aHR 0.66, 0.48-0.91)). Conclusions: First-line E-cont. regimens consistently showed increased effectiveness in outcomes compared to A-cont. regimens in mCRPC patients treated in community oncology setting. The effects sizes are modest and did not reach significance, however analysis of the sickest patients showed a trend of consistently larger effect sizes which reached significance for some outcomes. More work needs to be done to evaluate if these results support findings from other RWD sources.

Background: Neonates and infants requiring anaesthesia are at risk of physiological instability and complications, but triggers for peri-anaesthetic interventions and associations with subsequent outcome are unknown. Methods: This prospective, observational study recruited patients up to 60 weeks' postmenstrual age undergoing anaesthesia for surgical or diagnostic procedures from 165 centres in 31 European countries between March 2016 and January 2017. The primary aim was to identify thresholds of pre-determined physiological variables that triggered a medical intervention. The secondary aims were to evaluate morbidities, mortality at 30 and 90 days, or both, and associations with critical events. Results: Infants (n=5609) born at mean (standard deviation [SD]) 36.2 (4.4) weeks postmenstrual age (35.7% preterm) underwent 6542 procedures within 63 (48) days of birth. The pirarucu, Arapaima gigas is a native, carnivorous fish species from the Amazon basin. As carnivorous fish have low amylase activity, exogenous enzymes can improve the digestibility of carbohydrates in aquaculture feeds. We evaluated the digestibility of increasing levels of an enzymatic complex in diets of pirarucu juveniles (65.2 ± 0.4 g). The experimental design was randomized with four treatments [diets containing 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1 g kg-1 on-top inclusion of an enzyme complex (Allzyme® SSF®, USA), and a control, with three replications at a density of 5 fish per unit, and a 30-day duration. We quantified apparent digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, and crude energy through nutrient and chromium oxide content in diets and feces. Enzymatic activity, hepatic glycogen and total protein were determined in liver and anterior intestine samples. The diet with 1 g kg-1 of enzyme-complex resulted in an increase in apparent digestibility of crude protein, gross energy, and dry matter, hepatic glycogen, total proteins in liver and in intestine, showing the efficiency of the enzyme complex in pirarucu feeding. A higher accumulation of dry matter, crude energy, and ethereal extract in the carcass indicated weight increase in the fish treated with enzymatic complex. A decrease in the endogenous enzymatic activity (protease, lipase and amylase) suggested an improved efficacy of the digestive process. Our results indicate that the inclusion of 1 g kg-1 enzyme complex in the diet of juvenile pirarucu can be recommended to achieve greater digestibility of nutrients and improvement in productive performance. RESUMO O pirarucu, Arapaima gigas é um peixe carnívoro nativo da bacia amazônica. Como peixes carnívoros possuem baixa atividade de amilase, enzimas exógenas melhoram a digestibilidade de carboidratos em rações para aquacultura. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a digestibilidade de níveis crescentes de complexo enzimático em dietas para juvenis de pirarucu (65,2 ± 0,4 g). O desenho experimental foi randomizado com quatro tratamentos [dietas contendo 0,25, 0,50, 0,75 e 1 g kg-1 de complexo enzimático adicionado (Allzyme® SSF®, EUA)] e um controle, com três réplicas com densidade de cinco peixes por unidade e 30 dias de duração. A digestibilidade aparente da matéria seca, proteína bruta e energia bruta foi calculada por quantificação de nutrientes e óxido de cromo nas dietas e fezes. A atividade enzimática, o glicogênio hepático e a proteína total foram determinados a partir de amostras do fígado e intestino anterior. A dieta com 1 g kg-1 de complexo enzimático resultou em um aumento da digestibilidade aparente de proteina bruta, energia bruta, matéria seca, glicogênio hepático e proteínas totais no fígado e intestino, mostrando a eficácia do complexo enzimático na dieta dos pirarucus. A acumulação mais alta de matéria seca, energia bruta e extrato etéreo na carcaça indicou o aumento de peso dos peixes tratados com complexo enzimático. A redução da atividade enzimática endógena (protease, lipase e amilase) sugeriu um aumento da eficácia do processo digestivo. Nossos resultados indicam que a inclusão de 1 g kg-1 do complexo enzimático na dietas de juvenis de pirarucu pode ser recomendada para obter maior digestibilidade de nutientes e performance produtiva.

[ES] En los últimos años, el sistema educativo ha sufrido una importante transformación para adaptarse a las nuevas circunstancias, evolucionando hacia un aprendizaje en línea. Esta evolución se ha reflejado en un considerable crecimiento de los MOOC y cursos online ofertados por diferentes proveedores en plataformas digitales. El proyecto ASTRE tiene como objetivo desarrollar un sistema de seguimiento de los alumnos de MOOC e integrarlo dentro del sistema de gestión de calidad de las asociaciones proveedoras de MOOC y docencia online. Con una etapa inicial de recopilación de datos e información, mediante la realización de encuestas y entrevistas a proveedores de MOOC y cursos online, se ha definido la situación actual del seguimiento de los alumnos por parte de los proveedores de estos cursos. Los datos indican un escaso seguimiento de los alumnos y del impacto de la formación en su desarrollo profesional; así como, una insuficiente explotación de esta retroalimentación como oportunidad de mejora de la calidad de los cursos ofertados. Partiendo de esta base, se ha elaborado una encuesta como herramienta central del sistema de seguimiento planteado y se ha lanzado a un determinado número de egresados de MOOC en una prueba piloto., El proyecto ASTRE ha recibido financiación de la Agencia Nacional Española Erasmus + de la Unión Europea bajo el acuerdo de subvención nº 2019-1-ES01-KA204-065644. The airfreight industry of shipping goods with special handling needs, also known as special cargo, suffers from nontransparent shipping processes, resulting in inefficiency. The LARA project (Lane Analysis and Route Advisor) aims at addressing these limitations and bringing innovation in special cargo route planning so as to improve operational deficiencies and customer services. In this chapter, we discuss the special cargo domain knowledge elicitation and modeling into an ontology. We also present research into cargo incidents, namely, automatic classification of incidents in free-text reports and experiments in detecting significant features associated with specific cargo incident types. Our work mainly addresses two of the main technical priority areas defined by the European Big Data Value (BDV) Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, namely, the application of data analytics to improve data understanding and providing optimized architectures for analytics of data-at-rest and data-in-motion, the overall goal is to develop technologies contributing to the data value chain in the logistics sector. It addresses the horizontal concerns Data Analytics, Data Processing Architectures, and Data Management of the BDV Reference Model. It also addresses the vertical dimension Big Data Types and Semantics.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different colors in development and survival of catfish Lophiosilurus alexandri larvae, as well as over the visual ability of the handler. Larvae were placed in 5 L-aquariums at a density of 7 larvae L-1 , and aquariums had different colors, and were: green and blue (light colors); brown and black (dark colors). The final development; survival, total and standard length, weight and biomass of the larvae were similar in all colored aquaria. The highest mortality occurred during the first days after hatching, declining over the period, when it is observed the larval development, indicating that care should be necessary in the first few days. During cleaning handling, the accidental catch of larvae was higher in black aquariums. In the first days of life, due to the fragility of the larvae, it is possible to verify that between the second and third day occur the greatest mortalities. The number of accidentally captured larvae was lower than the mortality, suggesting that the high mortality in early larval life is not influenced by the handler management. The catfish L. alexandri larvae should be cultivated in aquariums that allow a good contrast between the larvae and the background, to avoid accidental capture of larvae by the handler. It is suggested to avoid the use of dark and black aquariums.

Editor’s Perspective What We Already Know about This Topic What This Article Tells Us That Is New Background Sepsis and septic shock are severe inflammatory conditions related to high morbidity and mortality. We performed a systematic review with meta-analysis of randomized trials to assess whether extracorporeal blood purification reduces mortality in this setting. Methods Electronic databases were searched for pertinent studies up to January 2019. We included randomized controlled trials on the use of hemoperfusion, hemofiltration without a renal replacement purpose, and plasmapheresis as a blood purification technique in comparison to conventional therapy in adult patients with sepsis and septic shock. The primary outcome was mortality at the longest follow-up available. We calculated relative risks and 95% CIs. The grading of recommendations assessment, development and evaluation methodology for the certainty of evidence was used. Results Thirty-seven trials with 2,499 patients were included in the meta-analysis. Hemoperfusion was associated with lower mortality compared to conventional therapy (relative risk = 0.88 [95% CI, 0.78 to 0.98], P = 0.02, very low certainty evidence). Low risk of bias trials on polymyxin B immobilized filter hemoperfusion showed no mortality difference versus control (relative risk = 1.14 [95% CI, 0.96 to 1.36], P = 0.12, moderate certainty evidence), while recent trials found an increased mortality (relative risk = 1.22 [95% CI, 1.03 to 1.45], P = 0.02, low certainty evidence); trials performed in the United States and Europe had no significant difference in mortality (relative risk = 1.13 [95% CI, 0.96 to 1.34], P = 0.15), while trials performed in Asia had a positive treatment effect (relative risk = 0.57 [95% CI, 0.47 to 0.69], P < 0.001). Hemofiltration (relative risk = 0.79 [95% CI, 0.63 to 1.00], P = 0.05, very low certainty evidence) and plasmapheresis (relative risk = 0.63 [95% CI, 0.42 to 0.96], P = 0.03, very low certainty evidence) were associated with a lower mortality. Conclusions Very low-quality randomized evidence demonstrates that the use of hemoperfusion, hemofiltration, or plasmapheresis may reduce mortality in sepsis or septic shock. Existing evidence of moderate quality and certainty does not provide any support for a difference in mortality using polymyxin B hemoperfusion. Further high-quality randomized trials are needed before systematic implementation of these therapies in clinical practice.

The survival of several fish species in captivity depends on their adaptation to the environmental conditions and the biological characteristics. The objective of the study was to evaluate the influence of different light intensity levels in growth, behavior and skin pigmentation in juvenile of Lophiosilurus alexandri. Fishes were exposed to the following luminosities: 0, 218, 278, and 459 lux. The experiment was conducted for 75 days, in a water recirculation system with controlled temperatures and aeration. Catfish juvenile were distributed in 35 L aquariums, at the density of 0.28 ind L-1. In order to evaluate fish growth, weight, standard- total length, weight gain, food consumption, food conversion, biomass, specific growth rate and survival were measured twice times a month. Also, swimming behavior, skin pigmentation and plasma cortisol levels were evaluated. Light influences L. alexandri feed consumption, food conversion, behavior and plasma cortisol levels. Environments with low light are recommended for the L. alexandri growth.

Objectives The validity of sporting talent is hotly contested by those working, watching, and participating in sport in its variety of forms. Despite considerable research attention to understanding talent development in sport settings, the overall utility of this concept is not known. One of the reasons for this is that sporting talent has not been adequately conceptualized. This paper aims to provide a broad foundation for exploring talent in sport. Design Critical review. Methods Prior work from psychology, sport psychology and sport science more generally are reviewed to develop a new conceptualization of talent in sport. Results and conclusions We propose a multi-faceted conceptualization of talent as: innate (i.e., originating in biological elements present at birth), multi-dimensional (i.e., consisting of capacities from a range of broad cognitive, physical, and psychological categories), emergenic (i.e., involving interactions among factors that combine multiplicatively), dynamic (i.e., evolving across developmental time due to interactions with environments and random gene expression) and symbiotic (i.e., cultural and social factors will determine the ultimate value of an individual’s talent). We also suggest several avenues for future research to determine the validity of talent in sport.

International audience; Although relative age effects in sports have been studied worldwide, the underlying mechanisms are still under debate. This study adds to the existing knowledge by providing a further exploration of the within-year and between-year effects and their possible interaction in an individual skill/technique based sport: table tennis. Data of male and female elite players across ages (U15, U18, U21, and senior) were collected from the ranking lists in international (world and Europe) and national contexts (France and the Netherlands). A multi-way frequency analysis per subsample revealed (1) no interaction effects; (2) significant within-year and between-year effects for the U15 players in the international context and male French players; (3) a significant within-year effect in the French U18 category; (4) a significant within-year effect in female European U21; and (5) no within-year effects in the senior category. Table tennis seems to be at risk for within-year and between-year effects specifically within the context of high competitive level for younger players (U15, males, and females), but not for interactions between these effects. Future research should reveal the development of the RAEs over time in a longitudinal study, evaluate influencing constraints, and innovative prevention solutions in a more comprehensive way.

BACKGROUND Myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery frequently occurs and may influence survival. The aims of this study were to examine the association between myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery and patient and procedural factors as well as its impact on postoperative clinical outcome. METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted from data collected in adults enrolled in a randomized trial in elective major open abdominal surgery. Preoperative patient characteristics, intraoperative hemodynamic changes, and postoperative adverse events were analyzed, and Kaplan-Meier curves were built for postoperative survival probability. After adjustment for baseline patient and procedural characteristics, the effect of myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery on postoperative outcomes was analyzed in a propensity score matched cohort. RESULTS Among 394 patients, myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery was reported in 109 (27.7%) and was associated with a higher cardiovascular risk profile, prolonged surgery (333 ± 111 min vs 295 ± 134 min, P = .010), greater need for transfusions (41.3% vs 19.3%, P < .001), higher incidence of major adverse cardiac events (22.9% vs 6.7%, P < .001), pulmonary complications (31.2% vs 17.9%, P = .004) , acute kidney injury (30.3% vs 18.2%, P = .009), and systemic inflammatory syndrome (28.4% vs 13.0%, P < .001). After propensity score matching, the operative time and the need for blood transfusion remained higher among myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery patients who experienced more frequent major adverse cardiac events and acute kidney injury. In both the entire and matched cohorts, survival up to 30 months after surgery was determined mainly by the presence of cancer. CONCLUSION The burden of cardiovascular disease and operative stress surgery is predictive of myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery and, in turn, with a higher incidence of cardiac adverse events, whereas the presence of cancer is associated with poor survival in patients undergoing major open abdominal surgery. Further studies are needed to determine whether myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery can be prevented by better control of the patient's cardiovascular condition and implementation of less invasive of surgical procedures.

This paper presents a systematic literature review of international research on therapeutic factors in offender treatment. The review was based on the PRISMA criteria; PsycINFO and PSYNDEX as well as references given in included studies were browsed. Only quantitative empirical studies published between 1990 and 2018 were included. In this paper, evidence for common factors (therapeutic alliance, social climate, feedback) and therapist factors (interpersonal skills/characteristics, personality, therapy expectations) from 19 journal articles are reported. Some tendencies emerged, but there was no conclusive evidence on the effect of common factors and therapist factors on the therapy outcome. This non-conclusive evidence is mostly due to the methodological shortcomings of primary studies, heterogeneity of outcome variables and the low number of studies that looked at each of these variables. In sum, there is not enough evidence to date to show a strong relationship between common factors and therapist factors and a (positive) outcome in the treatment of offenders.Anhand eines systematischen Literaturreviews nach den PRISMA-Kriterien wurden therapeutische Wirkfaktoren für die Behandlung von Straftätern untersucht. Recherchiert wurde in den Datenbanken PsycINFO und PSYNDEX, weitere relevante Studien wurden den Literaturverzeichnissen von Studien, die die Selektionskriterien erfüllten, entnommen. Es wurden nur quantitative empirische Studien für den Zeitraum 1990–2018 eingeschlossen. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden Befunde aus 19 Papers zu allgemeinen Wirkfaktoren (therapeutische Allianz, soziales Klima, Feedback) und Therapeutenfaktoren (zwischenmenschliche Fähigkeiten/Eigenschaften, Persönlichkeit, Therapieerwartung) referiert. Die Evidenz für das Vorliegen allgemeiner Wirk- und Therapeutenfaktoren ist nicht einheitlich, aber es zeigen sich Tendenzen. Diese Schwierigkeit der Evidenzbestimmung liegt insbesondere an methodischen Mängeln der Primärstudien, an heterogenen Outcomevariablen und an der geringen Zahl von Studien, die diese Faktoren untersuchten. Ein bedeutender Zusammenhang zwischen allgemeinen Wirk- und Therapeutenfaktoren und einem (positiven) Therapieergebnis in der Therapie von Straftätern ist wahrscheinlich, aber noch liegen zu wenige kontrollierte Studien vor, um ihn zweifelsfrei zu untermauern.
