Objective: To identify the profile of patients who implanted pacemakers and their complications in a tertiary cardiology center in the state of Santa Catarina. Methods: Unicentric, observational and prospective study with 81 patients submitted to pacemaker implantation by the Cardiovascular Surgery Service. Results: Provisional pacemaker was necessary in 42 cases (51.8%) and the average time of temporary pacemaker insertion was 2.2 days. Death occurred in 3 patients (3.7%), however only 1 case (1.2%) was associated with the implant. Conclusion: The clinical characteristics and indications of the implant in the study population were similar to those found in the literature, however the number of complications was high and the length of stay of the provisional pacemaker is beyond that recommended.

Objetivo: Identificar o perfil dos pacientes que implantaram marcapasso e as suas complicações em um centro terciário de cardiologia do estado de Santa Catarina. Métodos: Estudo unicêntrico, observacional e prospectivo com 81 pacientes submetidos a implante de marcapasso pelo Serviço de Cirurgia Cardiovascular. Resultados: Marcapasso provisório foi necessário em 42 casos (51,8%) e o tempo médio de permanência do marcapasso provisório foi de 2,2 dias. Óbito ocorreu em 3 pacientes (3,7%), entretanto apenas 1 caso (1,2%) foi associado ao implante.Conclusão: As características clínicas e as indicações do implante da população do estudo foram semelhantes às encontradas na literatura, entretanto o número de complicações mostrou-se elevado e o tempo de permanência do marcapasso provisório está além do recomendado

Dentro do contexto urbano, as praças são consideradas locais de importância vital para as cidades, privilegiando o espaço coletivo e locus das interações sociais. Tendo como ponto de partida uma pesquisa desenvolvida no âmbito da dissertação de mestrado em Ciências Ambientais da primeira autora, o presente estudo possui como tema o espaço público e suas relações de urbanidade. Possui como objeto de pesquisa a Praça Nereu Ramos, considerada a materialização viva de toda a história da população Criciumense. A reflexão proposta possui como objetivo investigar o processo de apropriação do espaço e identidade de lugar da população de Criciúma/SC quanto a importância da preservação dos espaços públicos e paisagem urbana da Praça Nereu Ramos. Tudo isso pela importância em entender os espaços públicos como resultados de um produto social de uma sociedade específica. O estudo possui uma abordagem qualitativa, numa perspectiva da pesquisa social de caráter investigativo, através do reconhecimento da praça como um espaço público. A coleta de dados foi realizada pelas técnicas de observação participante e entrevistas semiestruturadas e analisadas pelas técnicas de análise de conteúdo e conceitos chave. A interpretação dos dados possibilitou entender a importância da preservação dos patrimônios culturais e suas relações com a paisagem urbana na área central da cidade, analisando a percepção da população quanto á sua contribuição para manutenção da identidade e memória cultural. No entanto, a pesquisa nos deixa a pergunta: até que ponto os espaços públicos contribuem para a valorização da vida nas cidades?

A large yield of $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ particles produced in the $^{120}\mathrm{Sn}(^{6}\mathrm{He},\ensuremath{\alpha})$ reaction was measured at 20.3-, 22.2-, 22.4-, and 24.5-MeV bombarding energies. The $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ particles are distributed over a broad energy range in the vicinity and below the elastic scattering $^{6}\mathrm{He}$ peak. Energy integrated $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-particle cross sections have been obtained at ${\ensuremath{\theta}}_{\text{lab}}={36}^{\ensuremath{\circ}},{40}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$, and ${60}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$. The $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ energy distributions have been analyzed at a fixed laboratory angle $(\ensuremath{\approx}{60}^{\ensuremath{\circ}})$ in terms of the reaction $Q$ value, considering the $2n$-transfer reaction kinematics $^{120}\mathrm{Sn}(^{6}\mathrm{He},\ensuremath{\alpha})^{122}\mathrm{Sn}$. A kinematical analysis of the $Q$-value distribution shows that the recoil system $^{120}\mathrm{Sn}+2n$ is formed in highly excited states in the continuum, at increasing excitation energies as the bombarding energy increases. It is shown that by using Brink's formula, the excitation energy depends on the transferred angular momentum following a linear relation with the square of the angular momentum, indicating that some kind of dinuclear rotating system is formed after the reaction.

We present new experimental angular distributions for the elastic scattering of Li6+Sn120 at three bombarding energies. We include these data in a wide systematic involving the elastic scattering of He4,6,Li7, Be9,B10, and O16,18 projectiles on the same target at energies around the respective Coulomb barriers. Considering this data set, we report on optical model analyses based on the double-folding São Paulo potential. Within this approach, we study the sensitivity of the data fit to different models for the nuclear matter densities and to variations in the optical potential strengths. Background Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are secreted membranous particles intensively studied for their potential cargo of diagnostic markers. Efficient and cost-effective isolation methods need to be established for the reproducible and high-throughput study of EVs in the clinical practice. Methods We designed the nickel-based isolation (NBI) to rapidly isolate EVs and combined it with newly-designed amplified luminescent proximity homogeneous assay or digital PCR to detect biomarkers of clinical utility. Findings From plasma of 46 healthy donors, we systematically recovered small EV (~250 nm of mean diameter; ~3 × 1010/ml) and large EV (~560 nm of mean diameter; ~5 × 108/ml) lineages ranging from 50 to 700 nm, which displayed hematopoietic/endothelial cell markers that were also used in spike-in experiments using EVs from tumor cell lines. In retrospective studies, we detected picomolar concentrations of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) in fractions of EVs isolated from the plasma of prostate cancer patients, discriminating them from control subjects. Directly from oil-encapsulated EVs for digital PCR, we identified somatic BRAF and KRAS mutations circulating in the plasma of metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) patients, matching 100% of concordance with tissue diagnostics. Importantly, with higher sensitivity and specificity compared with immuno-isolated EVs, we revealed additional somatic alterations in 7% of wild-type CRC cases that were subsequently validated by further inspections in the matched tissue biopsies. Interpretation We propose NBI-combined approaches as simple, fast, and robust strategies to probe the tumor heterogeneity and contribute to the development of EV-based liquid biopsy studies. Elastic scattering and transfer cross sections for the 7 Be + 9 Be system have been measured at E lab = 23.1 MeV using the 7 Be radioactive secondary beam produced at Radioactive Ion Beams in Brazil facility at the University of São Paulo. The elastic scattering has been measured by detecting the 7 Be scattered at forward angles in the laboratory system. The transfer reaction 9 Be ( 7 Be , 9 Be ) 7 Be was identified by detecting the 9 Be scattered at the same laboratory angles. The elastic angular distribution has been analyzed by optical model calculations using a Woods-Saxon form factor whose parameters have been varied to best reproduce the experimental data at forward angles. Coupled reaction channels calculations (CRC) have been performed to describe the transfer, considering the coupling to the transfer channel and including contributions to the ground state and to the first excited state of 7 Be ( 1 / 2 − ; 429 keV ) in the final state. The spectroscopic amplitudes used in the CRC calculation have been derived from shell-model calculations. Similar CRC calculations were applied to existing 9 Be ( p , t ) 7 Be data to check the consistency of our results results for the ( 7 Be , 9 Be ) transfer reaction. We measured the $^{8}\mathrm{Li}(p,p)^{8}\mathrm{Li}$, $^{8}\mathrm{Li}(p,d)^{7}\mathrm{Li}$, and $^{8}\mathrm{Li}(p,\ensuremath{\alpha})^{5}\mathrm{He}$ reactions at low energies using the thick target inverse kinematics method, with a polyethylene ${[{\mathrm{CH}}_{2}]}_{n}$ target and a radioactive $^{8}\mathrm{Li}$ beam available at the Radioactive Ion Beams in Brazil facility of S\~ao Paulo. By measuring simultaneously several reaction channels $(p,p)$, $(p,d)$, and $(p,\ensuremath{\alpha})$, the still uncertain high-lying resonances of $^{9}\mathrm{Be}$, close to the proton threshold, can be studied and their parameters, such as energy, width, and spin parity can be more reliably determined. The experimental excitation functions of the reactions $^{8}\mathrm{Li}(p,p)^{8}\mathrm{Li}$, $^{8}\mathrm{Li}(p,d)^{7}\mathrm{Li}$, and $^{8}\mathrm{Li}(p,\ensuremath{\alpha})^{5}\mathrm{He}$ were analyzed using the $R$-matrix theory, which allows us to infer the properties of the resonances. Multichannel $R$-matrix analysis provides evidence for a significant clustering in the $(p,d)$ channel. The experimental data and the multichannel $R$-matrix analysis will be presented.

No decorrer de nossa pesquisa de doutorado, que aborda o ensino do violão popular nas universidades brasileiras, nos deparamos primeiramente com a dificuldade fundamental de entender e delimitar as fronteiras do que poderia ser chamado de violão popular. Num segundo momento adicionamos a esse já complexo conjunto de significações o questionamento sobre o caráter nacional, tentando assim encontrar respostas, mesmo que temporárias, para o que pode ser compreendido como o violão popular brasileiro. Para isso, traçamos três funções exercidas pelo violão na música brasileira, a fim de organizar o entendimento sobre sua atuação. Esse artigo tem, portanto, o objetivo de atentar para a diversidade e amplitude de significados atribuíveis ao termo de forma que suas consequências também possam ser observadas no âmbito do ensino universitário.

The $^{10}\mathrm{B}+^{120}\mathrm{Sn}$ reaction has been investigated at ${E}_{\mathrm{Lab}}=37.5$ MeV. The cross sections for different channels, such as the elastic scattering, the excitation of the ${2}^{+}$ and ${3}^{\ensuremath{-}}\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}^{120}\mathrm{Sn}$ states, the excitation of the ${1}^{+}$ state of $^{10}\mathrm{B}$, and the $1n$ pick-up transfer, have been measured. One-step distorted-wave Born approximation and coupled-reaction-channels calculations have been performed in the context of the double-folding S\~ao Paulo potential. The effect of coupling the inelastic and transfer states on the angular distributions is discussed in the paper. In general, the theoretical calculations within the coupled-reaction-channels formalism yield a satisfactory agreement with the corresponding experimental angular distributions.

The 10 B + 120 Sn reaction has been systematically studied at laboratory energies around the Coulomb barrier: E LAB = 31.5 , 33.5, 35.0, and 37.5 MeV. Cross sections for the elastic scattering and some reaction processes have been measured: excitation to the 1 + state of 10 B ; excitation to the 2 + and 3 − states of 120 Sn ; and the one-neutron pick-up transfer 120 Sn ( 10 B , 11 B ) 119 Sn . Coupled reaction channel (CRC) calculations have been performed in the context of the double-folding São Paulo potential. The theoretical calculations result in a good overall description of the experimental angular distributions. The effect on the theoretical elastic-scattering angular distributions of couplings to the inelastic and transfer states (through the CRC calculations) and to the continuum states (through continuum-discretized coupled-channels calculations) has been investigated. Defesa : Curitiba, 26/06/2018 Inclui referências Resumo: O manguezal é um bioma costeiro que apresenta fauna e flora adaptadas a inundações periódicas, causando grandes variações de salinidade. Dentre os estudos sobre manguezais no mundo, aproximadamente 20% estão relacionados com manguezais brasileiros, e destes apenas 1% apresentam ensaios relacionados a identificação ou caracterização de enzimas hidrolíticas presentes nesses ambientes. Assim, este projeto de doutorado teve como objetivo identificar e caracterizar enzimas com potencial aplicação biotecnológica a partir de genes presentes em microrganismos do manguezal da baía de Paranaguá, do estado do Paraná. Amostras desse bioma foram coletadas e semeadas em meios seletivos específicos, permitindo o isolamento de 17 bactérias. Dentre elas, o isolado XL-2 teve seu genoma totalmente sequenciado e foi classificado como Bacillus safensis BRM1. Seu genoma apresenta 3,74 Mb e conteúdo GC de 41,8%. Dentre os 3.983 genes preditos, 23 podem estar relacionados com genes que codificam para celulases e hemicelulases, evidenciando o potencial biotecnológico presente desta estirpe. Além disso, outro isolado (XS-14, Pseudomonas sp.) teve seu genoma parcialmente sequenciado, onde foi possível identificar uma esterase (Est1) com atividade em substratos de cadeia curta e em níveis elevados de NaCl, sendo parcialmente caracterizada. Dessa forma, o estudo realizado nesse período de doutorado permitiu contribuir para o conhecimento sobre os manguezais brasileiros Abstract: Mangrove is a coastal biome with fauna and flora adapted to periodic flooding, causing great variations of salinity. Among the mangrove studies in the world, approximately 20% are related to Brazilian mangroves, and only 1% of these have been analyzed for identification or characterization of hydrolytic enzymes. Thus, this project had the objective of identifying and characterizing enzymes with potential biotechnological application from genes microorganisms of the Paranaguá bay mangrove, in the state of Paraná. Samples of the soil from this biome were collected and microorganisms were seeded into specific selective media, allowing the isolation of 17 bacteria. Among them, the XL-2 isolate had its genome fully sequenced and, after deposition in GenBank, was classified as Bacillus safensis BRM1. Its genome has 3.74 Mb and 41.8% of GC content. Among the 3,983 predicted genes, 23 may be related to genes encoding cellulases and hemicellulases, evidencing the biotechnological potential present in this strain. Another isolate (XS-14, Pseudomonas sp.) had its genome partially sequenced, where it was possible to identify an esterase (Est1) with activity on short-chain substrates and high levels of NaCl, being partially characterized. Thus, the study conducted in this doctoral period contributed to the knowledge on Brazilian mangroves.

Experimental angular distributions for the $^{7}\mathrm{Li}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}+\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{120}\mathrm{Sn}$ elastic and inelastic (projectile and target excitations) scattering, and for the neutron stripping reaction, have been obtained at ${E}_{\mathrm{LAB}}=20$, 22, 24, and 26 MeV, covering an energy range around the Coulomb barrier $({V}_{B}^{(\mathrm{LAB})}\ensuremath{\approx}21.4$ MeV). Coupled channel and coupled reaction channel calculations were performed and both describe satisfactorily the experimental data sets. The ${\frac{1}{2}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ state $^{7}\mathrm{Li}$ inelastic excitation (using a rotational model), as well as the projectile coupling to the continuum $(\ensuremath{\alpha}$ plus a tritium particle) play a fundamental role on the proper description of elastic, inelastic, and transfer channels. Couplings to the one-neutron stripping channel do not significantly affect the theoretical elastic scattering angular distributions. The spectroscopic amplitudes of the transfer channel were obtained through a shell model calculation. The theoretical angular distributions for the one-neutron stripping reaction agreed with the experimental data.

The (p, p), (p, a) and (p, d) reactions on 8Li were measured at low energies. The experiment was performed using a thick [CH2]n target and a radioactive 8Li beam available at the RIBRAS facility of Sao Paulo . This experiment represents an upgrade of a previous experiment, where only the 8Li(p,a)5He cross section was measured. High lying resonances of 9Be, which are still uncertain, could be studied in this way. The detection of several reaction channels allows a reliable determination of the resonance parameters, such as energy, width and spin-parity. In the deuteron channel we could observe the same resonance decaying to d+7Ligs and to d+7Li∗. The properties of the resonances are determined by a R-matrix analysis, which provides evidence for a significant clustering as well in the (p, a) as in the (p, d) channels. The experimental data and the multi-channel R-matrix analysis will be presented.

TiO 2 , N-doped TiO 2 , V-doped TiO 2 , and V–N-codoped TiO 2 thin films have been prepared using RF-magnetron sputtering and their photocatalytic activities have been investigated. The codoping strategy was adopted to decrease both the band gap of TiO 2 and the recombination rate of the photo-generated electron–hole pairs. Low concentration doping with single element (V or N) preserves the anatase dominated phase in TiO 2 film while codoping with V and N produces a mixed phase of nearly equal amount of rutile and anatase as inferred from the XRD and Raman spectroscopy studies. XPS studies reveal that, for N-doped TiO 2 elemental N resides at interstitial lattice positions but codoping with V permits N to reside in both substitutional and interstitial sites in TiO 2 lattice. UV–vis studies indicate that the band gap of TiO 2 (3.2 eV) reduced to 3.0 eV, 2.8 eV and 2.5 eV, by N-doping, V-doping and V–N codoping, respectively. The photocatalytic activity of pure, N-doped, V-doped, and V–N codoped TiO 2 thin films were tested by examining the degradation of methylene blue, chlorophenol and nitrophenol as a function of time. It was observed that the codoped TiO 2 gave the highest photocatalytic activity in comparison to the mono-doped and undoped TiO 2 because of high visible light absorption and possible reduction in the recombination of photo-generated charges. Density of states calculated using density functional theory (DFT) showed that the narrowing of band-gap for the codoped TiO 2 is obtained by the formation of isolated energy levels of V 3d and N 2p states below the conduction band and above the valence band of pure TiO 2 , respectively. While for the mono-doped TiO 2 the narrowing of the band gap is only contributed by impurity levels formed near any one of the band edges. It is concluded that for the codoped TiO 2 , high visible light absorption is caused by the formation of impurity energy states near both the band edges which also act as the trapping sites for both the photo-generated charges to reduce the recombination process.

An overview of the experiments performed at RIBRAS over the last year is presented. Elastic scattering and breakup reactions induced by light exotic projectiles on different targets have been measured and some results are presented here for the 120Sn(6He, α) reaction. Resonant scattering experiments have been performed with 10Be and 12C secondary beams on a CH2 thick target and the well known 12C+p resonance was identified. A gamma-particle experiment using a new system of LYSO scintillators to detect gammas was done.

In this work we present an elastic scattering angular distribution for the 8Li+58Ni system measured at Elab = 26.1 MeV. The 8Li beam was produced in the Radioactive Ion Beams in Brasil (RIBRAS) facility using the 7Li primary beam delivered by the 8-UD Pelletron accelerator. The angular distribution covers the angular range from 20 to 85 degrees in the center of mass frame. The data have been analysed by optical model and coupled channels calculations, including couplings to low-lying states in 8Li and the spin-orbit interaction. Our results indicate that the inclusion of the spin-orbit interaction in the calculations is important to describe the data at backward angles.
