- Abstract
Background: Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists differ in chemical structure, duration of action, and in their effects on clinical outcomes. The cardiovascular effects of once-weekly albiglutide in type 2 diabetes are unknown. We aimed to determine the safety and efficacy of albiglutide in preventing cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or stroke. Methods: We did a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial in 610 sites across 28 countries. We randomly assigned patients aged 40 years and older with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (at a 1:1 ratio) to groups that either received a subcutaneous injection of albiglutide (30–50 mg, based on glycaemic response and tolerability) or of a matched volume of placebo once a week, in addition to their standard care. Investigators used an interactive voice or web response system to obtain treatment assignment, and patients and all study investigators were masked to their treatment allocation. We hypothesised that albiglutide would be non-inferior to placebo for the primary outcome of the first occurrence of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or stroke, which was assessed in the intention-to-treat population. If non-inferiority was confirmed by an upper limit of the 95% CI for a hazard ratio of less than 1·30, closed testing for superiority was prespecified. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT02465515. Findings: Patients were screened between July 1, 2015, and Nov 24, 2016. 10 793 patients were screened and 9463 participants were enrolled and randomly assigned to groups: 4731 patients were assigned to receive albiglutide and 4732 patients to receive placebo. On Nov 8, 2017, it was determined that 611 primary endpoints and a median follow-up of at least 1·5 years had accrued, and participants returned for a final visit and discontinuation from study treatment; the last patient visit was on March 12, 2018. These 9463 patients, the intention-to-treat population, were

Following on the success of the NASA-CNES CALIPSO/CALIOP space-based cloud-aerosol lidar, which is now approaching its 14th year of continuous operation, NASA Langley Research Center has been advancing space-based lidar mission concepts and related technologies to address future cloud, aerosol and ocean science objectives identified in the 2017 Decadal Survey for Earth Science and Applications from Space. Recently, scientists at NASA Langley have been able to use data from CALIOP to retrieve global ocean biomass, which is a measurement that was never originally envisioned for this instrument, and represents a new scientific frontier for space-based lidar. CALIOP’s measurements complement ocean color records, extending ocean retrievals into nighttime and to high latitudes, and creating a more complete picture of global ocean biomass. Due to detector bandwidth limitations, however, CALIOP, as with ocean color, only obtains column-averaged measurements that are biased towards the surface. To address this limitation, Politecnico di Milano is developing a lidar detector based on a single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) array. This detector is expected to achieve a depth resolution of

- Abstract
The purpose of this correlational study was to determine if a relationship exists between pastoral servant leadership and congregational spiritual formation in Protestant churches located in the United States of America. The context of this study was to assess possible relationships between pastoral servant leadership and congregational spiritual formation. The population of churches used for this study was comprised of Protestant churches located within the United States of America. The methodological research design for this study was a quantitative non-exploratory correlational approach, which is used to "describe and measure the degree of association (or relationship) between two or more variables or sets of scores" (Creswell, 2018, p. 50). The primary independent variable was pastoral servant leadership behavior as derived from the Self-Assessment of Servant Leadership (SASL) survey. The primary dependent variable was the spiritual formation of congregational members as derived from the Faith Maturity Scale (FMS) survey. The data analysis for this study was Spearman’s rho Correlation. This statistical procedure is a nonparametric measure that is typically used to quantify the association between two ordinal variables. The results of the analysis yielded a significant positive correlation between pastoral servant leadership and congregational spiritual formation.

We discuss the experimental consequences of hypothetical time variations of the fundamental constants. We show that any observed time variations can be interpreted as being due to changes in the dimensionless fundamental constants, once the effects of the constants on the structure of the experiment are taken into account. Young's experiment for a slow charged particle and a version of the twin paradox are discussed to show how their results are independent of physical constants. We also show that experiments that are generally interpreted in terms of time variations of the gravitational constant G are better interpreted as giving limits on the variation of the dimensionless constant [alpha]G = G[m.sup.2.sub.p]/hc, where [m.sub.p] is the mass of the proton.

An experimental study of shock modification in an M = 2.5 supersonic flow of nonequilibrium plasma over a cone is discussed. The experiments are conducted in a nonequilibrium plasma supersonic wind tunnel. Recent experiments at the Ohio State University using a supersonic plasma flow over a quasi-two-dimensional wedge showed that an oblique shock can be considerably weakened by a transverse rf discharge plasma. The previously observed shock weakening, however, has been found consistent with a temperature rise in the boundary layers heated by the discharge. In the present study, the boundary-layer effects on the shock wave are reduced by placing an entire cone model into a supersonic inviscid core flow. The electron density in the supersonic plasma flow in the test section is measured using microwave attenuation. The ionization fraction in the discharge is in the same range as in the previous plasma shock experiments, up to [n.sub.e]/N = (1.2-3.0) x [10.sup.-7]. The results do not show any detectable shock weakening by the plasma. This strongly suggests that the previously observed shock weakening and dispersion in nonequilibrium plasmas are entirely due to thermal effects.

Within a group of adolescent Australian Rules Football (ARF) players, individuals of the same chronological age can differ greatly in biological maturation, with some players maturing vastly earlier or later than their peers. Such large differences in maturity can cause a disparity between physical performance, influence the perceptions of talent, and affect training practice. In attempts to address such issues, this overview proposes the concept of bio-banding in ARF, which may be used periodically within the national talent pathway to optimise player development. Bio-banding is the process of grouping adolescent athletes into specific categories or 'bands' based on biological maturation, rather than chronological age. This review describes how bio-banding may be used to enhance player development in ARF, giving context to its background and implementation in other sports. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
People who are incarcerated are at increased risk for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) acquisition upon release, and one possible intervention for prevention is the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) upon release. The present study assessed HIV risk perceptions as well as PrEP awareness and interest among 39 people who were incarcerated and enrolled in a structured Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT) program at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections using semi-structured, qualitative interviews. Analysis was conducted using a generalized, inductive method in NVivo 12. While PrEP awareness was low across the study sample, some participants were interested in PrEP uptake or learning more about PrEP after they were provided with an overview of it. PrEP interest strongly related to current perceived HIV risk. Potential barriers included side effects, adherence, and reluctance to take medications in general. MAT programs for people who are criminal justice (CJ) involved may serve as useful linkage spaces to PrEP information, access, and retention.

Shock wave splitting and the sustainment of the steady-state system of two shocks are the two stages of shock propagation in plasmas. To gain insights as to the nature of the mechanisms involved, these two stages were analyzed. There are several possible microscopic mechanism considered. Among them were energy transfers due to motion charged species and energy transfers by hot atoms and molecules as well as thermoelectric effects. However, results of the analysis narrowed down possible phenomenological interpretations to just two, heat and/or momentum flux and volumetric heat addition.

Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) acceleration of airflows for the energy addition wind tunnel is evaluated by means of nonequilibrium, reacting, ionized gas flow modeling. The study revealed that the use of an electron beam to sustain nonequilibrium ionization in high-pressure MHD channels is not advisable due to rapid electron loss. Also, the use of high-plenum-pressure, alkali-seeded flows are more feasible for the wind-tunnel application.

Astronomy - Abstract
We present detailed optical, near-infrared, and radio observations of the X-ray flash 050416a obtained with Palomar and Siding Springs Observatories as well as HST and the VLA, placing this event among the best-studied X-ray flashes to date. In addition, we present an optical spectrum from Keck LRIS from which we measure the redshift of the burst, Z=0.6528. At this redshift the isotropic-equivalent prompt energy release was about 10(exp 51) erg, and using a standard afterglow synchrotron model we find that the blastwave kinetic energy is a factor of 10 larger, E-K,iso approximately equals 10 (exp 52) erg. The lack of an observed jet break to t - 20 days indicates that the opening angle is larger than 7 deg and the total beaming-corrected relativistic energy is larger than 10 exp (50) erg. We further show that the burst produced a strong radio flare at t is similar to 40 days accompanied by an observed flattening in the X-ray band which we attribute to an abrupt circumburst density jump or an episode of energy injection (either from a refreshed shock or off-axis ejecta). Late-time observations with HST show evidence for an associated supernova with peak optical luminosity roughly comparable to that of SN 1998bw. Next, we show that the host galaxy of XRF 050416a is actively forming stars at a rate of at least 2 M-solar per year with a luminosity of L-B is similar to 0.5L* and metallicity of Z is similar to 0.2-0.8 Z-solar. Finally, we discuss the nature of XRF 050416a in the context of short-hard gamma-ray bursts and under the framework of off-axis and dirty fireball models for X-ray flashes.
