In vitro senescence of multipotent cells has been commonly associated with DNA damage induced by oxidative stress. These changes may vary according to the sources of production and the studied lineages, which raises questions about the effect of growing time on genetic stability. This study is aimed at evaluating the evolution of genetic stability, viability, and oxidative stress of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCBMsu) and renal progenitor cells of the renal cortex (RPCsu) of swine (Sus scrofa domesticus) in culture passages. P2, P5, and P9 were used for MSCBMsu and P1, P2, and P3 for RPCsu obtained by thawing. The experimental groups were submitted to MTT, apoptosis and necrosis assays, comet test, and reactive substance measurements of thiobarbituric acid (TBARS), nitrite, reduced glutathione (GSH), and catalase. The MTT test curve showed a mean viability of1.14±0.62and1.12±0.54, respectively, for MSCBMsu and RPCsu. The percentages of MSCBMsu and RPCsu were presented, respectively, for apoptosis, an irregular and descending behavior, and necrosis, ascending and irregular. The DNA damage index showed higher intensity among the MSCBMsu in the P5 and P9 passages (p<0.05). In the TBARS evaluation, there was variation among the lines of RPCsu and MSCBMsu, presenting the last most significant variations (p<0.05). In the nitrite values, we identified only among the lines, in the passages P1 and P2, with the highest averages displayed by the MSCBMsu lineage (p<0.05). The measurement of antioxidant system activity showed high standards, identifying differences only for GSH values, in the RPCsu lineage, in P3 (p<0.05). This study suggests that the maintenance of cell culture in the long term induces lower regulation of oxidative stress, and RPCsu presents higher genetic stability and lower oxidative stress than MSCBMsu during in vitro expansion.

The chemical and anatomical properties of Eucalyptus globulus stumps barks collected from fresh stumps (SB) and from industrial stumps bark piles (ISB) were determined. The stump bark showed similar anatomical structure to that of the stem bark, however with abundant prismatic crystals in the axial parenchyma cells. Stumps barks (ISB) presented a great amount of ashes (19.2%) that were incorporated during forest and mill processing, and lower content in extractives (4.1%), lignin (18.5%) and polysaccharides (48.5%). The non-polar (DCM) extracts were composed essentially by triterpenoids, fatty acids (C8 to C28), phytosterols (sterols and steroid ketones) and fatty alcohols (C15 to C28). The polar extracts (ethanol and water) were rich in phenolic compounds, condensed tannins and flavonoids, with higher values for the ethanol extracts and for SB. The antioxidant activity of ethanol extracts from SB was higher although only moderate (IC50 6.8). The lignin monomeric composition (H:G:S) was similar in SB (1:12:45) and in ISB (1:9:26). Sugar-derived compounds formed by Py-GC/MS included more low molecular compounds in ISB than in SB (45.5% vs.20.3%) indicative of a more degraded structure.

Introdução: O estresse competitivo pode acarretar alterações fisiológicas e emocionais que podem interferir em varios aspectos da sua vida do atleta. Estudos sugerem que o treinamento com biofeedback pode contribuir para melhorar o desempenho desportivo e o bem-estar psicológico de atletas. Objetivo: Examinar a eficácia do treinamento psicofisiológico, utilizando equipamento de biofeedback de variabilidade da frequência cardíaca (VFC), na redução dos indicadores psicológicos (ansiedade, alterações do humor e estresse) entre corredores de rua. Métodos: Estudo experimental, longitudinal, com amostra por conveniência, que contou com a participação de 10 corredores de rua (acima de 10 km), do sexo masculino (não profissionais). OS desfechos foram sintomas de: ansiedade pré-competitiva e de estresse e estados de humor. Além disso, foram aplicadas duas entrevistas: uma para avaliação pré-intervenção e outra semiestruturada para análise qualitativa pós-intervenção. A intervenção com treinamento de biofeedback ocorreu ao longo de seis semanas. Para comparar os resultados pré e pós-intervenção utilizou-se o teste t de Student para amostras pareadas com nível de confiança de 95%. Resultados: Os resultados mostraram que o treinamento alterou de maneira significativa as medidas de raiva e vigor, mas não as medidas de ansiedade competitiva e de estresse, apesar da maioria dos participantes ter demonstrado maior coerência da VFC ao longo das sessões. A análise qualitativa demonstrou que, na avaliação dos sujeitos, o treinamento com biofeedback atuou de maneira positiva, melhorando aspectos físicos e psicológicos. Conclusão: Os resultados sugerem que o treinamento com biofeedback reduziu sintomas relacionados ao estresse competitivo, como estados negativos de humor.

To assess the effectiveness of ultrasound (US)-guided laser ablation of benign thyroid nodules (TNs) under different amounts of applied energy.Thirty-four euthyroid patients with 5-18 ml TNs were enrolled: 21 (laser ablation) and 13 (clinical follow up) patients with a mean age of 56.2 ± 12.0 and 54.7 ± 14.7 years, respectively. The laser ablation protocol used a 1.064 mm wavelength diode laser source; 3.5 W output power; 1,100-1,500 J and 5-8 min/illumination; and one or two fibers/session. Clinical, laboratory, and US data were obtained immediately before treatment and at 6 and 12 months follow-up and were analyzed by Student's t test and Fisher's exact test. Low- and high-energy subgroups were subsequently defined, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were calculated.Laser ablation follow-up showed an overall nodule volume reduction of more than 50%; improvement of symptoms and cosmetic complaints (P = 0.001); and stable laboratory data compared with the baseline and control groups. Minor complications were 9.5% ( n = 2). One or two fibers/session resulted in a similar nodule volume reduction among 10-18 ml nodules. Analysis of the applied energy suggested a 398.8 J/ml inferior cutoff (ROC curve: 0.889 sensitivity; 0.545 specificity) for the high-energy subgroup ( n = 14, mean 599.9 ± 136.5 J/ml) to reduce the nodule volume over time (-55.1% vs. -58.4%, P = 0.55). The low-energy subgroup ( n = 7, mean 240.2 ± 74.6 J/ml) did not show a persistent volume reduction ( P 0.05) from the 6- to 12-month follow-ups (-56.6% vs. -53.7%).Laser ablation of benign TNs achieved technique efficacy at 12 months posttreatment, with clinical improvement and few minor side effects. A single fiber in a single session with a high deployed energy (398.8 J/ml) may be associated with improved results, a finding to be confirmed with a larger series. Lasers Surg. Resumo O objetivo deste artigo foi identificar os fatores associados ao desempenho de corregedorias de polícia, órgãos de accountability interna de forças policiais. A pesquisa reveste-se de relevância em função da escassa literatura acerca dos determinantes dos resultados de organizações desenhadas para combater condutas desviantes de funcionários públicos. Para tanto, utilizou-se uma amostra de 797 processos administrativos instaurados contra 1.195 policiais militares de um determinado Estado brasileiro, no período compreendido entre 2005 e 2012. A partir de uma abordagem metodológica quantitativa, constatou-se que o tempo de serviço do acusado na corporação e a complexidade do processo envolvendo a acusação estão associados com uma menor probabilidade de conclusão da investigação. Verificou-se, também, que normas sociais e códigos de condutas, inerentes à força policial analisada, são fatores importantes para explicar a aplicação de sanções aos acusados, evidenciando que alguns crimes parecem ser tolerados, enquanto outros tendem a ser rechaçados pela corporação. Todavia, contrário ao que se esperava, uma maior centralização das atividades de investigação não levou a maior eficiência no processo investigativo, no âmbito da corregedoria estudada: a existência de policiais que se dedicam unicamente à atividade de investigação de seus pares está associada com uma menor probabilidade de conclusão dos processos e de condenação dos acusados. Tais resultados contribuem para o debate teórico sobre o desenho de organizações de controle de conduta de funcionários públicos e para a literatura relacionada ao desempenho dos sistemas de accountability em organizações públicas.

Com a expansao do modal ferroviario brasileiro a niveis internacionais, solicitam-se maiores velocidades e quantidades de cargas transportadas durante a logistica, exigindo cada vez mais das locomotivas e da infraestrutura ferroviaria. A compreensao do tribossistema roda-trilho torna-se de extrema importância tendo em vista as tensoes e condicoes impostas a estes componentes. Neste trabalho foi realizada a caracterizacao do defeito head check em amostra de trilho soldado pelo processo de aluminotermia. Durante a atividade experimental e executada a correlacao entre a microestrutura e a dureza com a morfologia do head check (profundidade, comprimento, angulacao das trincas). Os resultados mostraram que a Zona Termicamente Afetada - ZTA apresenta uma microestrutura esferoidizada, com menor resistencia mecânica em relacao as outras regioes, expressa pelo perfil de dureza e observou-se que o defeito e cerca de duas vezes mais severo nesta regiao.

O objetivo do estudo experimental e avaliar os parâmetros de solidificacao, a estrutura e as propriedades mecânicas no processo de solidificacao horizontal de ligas binarias de composicao Al-3%Ni e Al-5%Ni e efetuar a correlacao entre os mesmos. Foram realizados ensaios de microdureza e tracao, alem de analise micro e macroestrutural. Os parâmetros de solidificacao foram obtidos atraves de aquisicao de dados de temperatura. Os resultados encontrados mostraram uma zona intermediaria entre a zona colunar e equiaxial denominada de zona de graos plumosos. Os ensaios mecânicos mostraram que os maiores valores de microdureza e de LRT localizam-se nas regioes com maiores espacamentos dendriticos.

O acumulo de residuos solidos, especialmente aqueles oriundos dos centros urbanos torna-se um dos grandes problemas de poluicao do meio ambiente na atualidade, e que e sustentado na triade consumo, recurso e residuo. o objetivo desta pesquisa e analisar quantiqualitativamente a relacao entre o crescimento populacional, o de residuos solidos e a disposicao final desses residuos em um recorte temporal compreendido entre 2008 e 2017, na regiao norte. O metodo aplicado foi o dedutivo. A pesquisa tambem foi exploratoria. Em relacao a abordagem, esta pesquisa teve caracteristica quantiqualitativa. A coleta dos dados secundarios foi efetuada a partir de acesso a plataforma de dados livres do Panorama dos Residuos Solidos no Brasil publicado pela Associacao Brasileira de Empresas de Limpeza Publica e Residuos Especiais – ABRELPE. A geracao de residuos solidos de 2008 a 2017 aumentou 75,28% e o crescimento populacional foi 8,51%. Entre os anos de 2008 e 2012 a producao de residuos solidos apresentou maiores percentuais (54,21%), enquanto que o crescimento populacional foi de 6,14%. Em relacao a disposicao final dos residuos solidos houve um aumento d 2008 a 2017 de 5,4% dos residuos encaminhados a aterros sanitarios e 1,4% dos encaminhados a lixoes. Houve ainda, uma diminuicao dos residuos dispostos em aterros controlados de 6,8% no mesmo periodo. Dessa forma e confirmada a forte correlacao entre o crescimento populacional e o de residuos solidos.

Aim: The study aimed to understand the perceptions of mothers about the practice of figure skating by their daughters aged between 8 and 13 years old. Methods: Eight mothers of skaters belonging to a youth competition team were interviewed in a qualitative study, which used narratives as the methodological approach. The interview was structured with open-ended questions and the full transcriptions were analyzed through content analysis. Results: The results of the three categories of analysis - “Skating and competing: the first influences”; “Family models and maternal participation”; and “Behavior of parents in sporting events” - showed that mothers perceived they provide emotional and motivational support during their daughters' sports practice and that they do not exert pressure for results. To not recognize negative behaviors could be negative to the skaters and may be the result of an inconscient mechanism or the need of mothers to have socially accepted behavior. They also stressed anxiety during competitions and reported strategies to cope with it. Thus, it is important to raise awareness of this situation so mothers can have more resources to manage this fragile balance. Conclusions: The way mothers participate in their children's sports life and express their support influences their sports practice; therefore, to understand how mothers perceive their involvement in their daughters' sportive practice is important to develop best practices to guarantee the quality of the interaction between mothers-children and healthy psychological development.

Background: App-based interventions to increase physical activity (PA) might be effective, although multi-component interventions appear to be better. Purpose: To investigate the effects of a smartphone app with behavior change techniques on PA of adults. Methods: Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial. The protocol lasted 24 weeks: after baseline assessments, participants were randomized into 3 groups: Group 1 (G1) - app + tailored messages, Group 2 (G2) ��� app + tailored messages + gamification I, Control group (CG) ��� PA counseling. We recorded the average number of daily steps from G1 and G2. At week 6, we classified participants as responders or non-responders according to daily steps; non-responders were re-randomized, with the chance to participate in Group 3 ��� app + tailored messages + gamification II. From week 12, participants no longer received intervention. Reassessments occurred at 12 and 24 weeks from baseline. We analyzed data using repeated-measures ANOVA with an intention-to-treat approach. Results: We included 53 participants (G1: 17, G2: 19, CG: 17), aged 44 �� 1.74 years old, 56.6% women. 53.1% were responders (G1: 62.5%, G2: 43.7%). We had losses to follow-up due to the Covid-19 pandemics. There were no differences pre and post-intervention among groups. Objectives: To evaluate the epidemiological profile of patients with spinal fractures over a two-year period (2017 and 2018) in a quaternary hospital in the city of São Paulo. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out through the analysis of the electronic medical records of patients treated by the Spine group of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Orthopedics and Traumatology Emergency Room of Hospital das Clínicas de São Paulo in the years 2017 and 2018. Results: A total of 185 patients were evaluated over two years. Males were the gender most frequently evaluated (69.19%), and the mean patient age was 43.95 years. The most common trauma mechanisms were falls from a height (45.95%) and traffic accidents (29.73%). The cervical spine, affected in 28.65%, was the most affected region, followed by the thoracolumbar region (26.56%). Most patients did not present deficits at the initial moment (71.89%) and 54.05% of patients underwent surgery for treatment. Conclusion: Most traumas involving the spine affect adults of working age (from 20 to 60 years old), with a predominance of males. Most injuries occurred in the cervical region, which is the region most commonly associated with severe trauma and neurological injuries. This study can help in planning prevention and precaution strategies for spinal trauma. Level of evidence III; Cross-sectional study. Resultados: Um total de 185 pacientes foram avaliados ao longo de dois anos. O sexo masculino foi predominante na avaliação (69,19%), e a média de idade dos pacientes de foi de 43,95 anos. Os mecanismos de trauma mais comuns foram queda de altura (45,95%) e acidentes de trânsito (29,73%). A coluna cervical, acometida em 28,65%, foi a mais afetada, seguida pela região toracolombar (26,56%). A maioria dos pacientes não apresentava déficits no momento inicial (71,89%) e 54,05% dos pacientes foram submetidos a cirurgia para o tratamento. Conclusão: A maioria dos traumas envolvendo a coluna vertebral acometem a população economicamente ativa (dos 20 aos 60 anos), com predomínio no sexo masculino. Resultados: Se evaluó a un total de 185 pacientes durante dos años. En la evaluación predominó el sexo masculino (69,19%), siendo la edad promedio de los pacientes de 43,95 años. Los mecanismos traumatológicos más frecuentes fueron las caídas de altura (45,95%), seguidos de los accidentes de tráfico (29,73%). La columna cervical, afectada en un 28,65%, fue la más afectada, seguida de la región toracolumbar (26,56%). La mayoría de los pacientes no tenían déficits al inicio del estudio (71,89%) y el 54,05% de ellos fueron sometidos a cirugía para su tratamiento. Conclusión: La mayoría de los traumatismos que involucran la columna afectan a la población económicamente activa (20 a 60 años), con predominio del sexo masculino. La mayoría de las lesiones se produjeron en la región cervical, que es la región más comúnmente asociada a los traumatismos graves ya las lesiones neurológicas. The basic sanitation systems are not enough to meet the sanitary requirements in the rural areas of Brazil. Hence, a decentralized anaerobic system was developed by Embrapa to enable the treatment of domestic sewage. The treated sewage effluent (TSE) should be applied to completely replace the N from mineral fertilizer required by corn plants, a typical crop cultivated by Brazilian smallholder farmings for animal feed. Hence, the purpose of this study was to investigate the corn crop responses to the use of TSE as fertilizer. A field experiment was carried out in a sandy clay loam soil at São Carlos, state of São Paulo, Brazil, over 2018-2019 summer growing season of a hybrid corn cultivar with dual aptitude (grain and silage production). Four treatments about application of different nutrient sources were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications: 1- NPK: urea, simple superphosphate and potassium chloride as nutrient sources; 2- EfPK: TSE as N source + PK from mineral fertilizers; 3- Ef: TSE only; 4- PK: mineral fertilizers only. TSE was applied to crop by short and closed-end furrow irrigation. TSE can be used as a source of nitrogen mainly and other nutrients for corn crop nutrition based on the knowledge of effluent nutrient concentrations. TSE split application through fertirrigation can lead to corn yield parameters close to those from NPK application using only mineral fertilizers as nutrient sources. The reuse of this wastewater is feasible for small-scale corn production which is typical of Brazilian smallholder farming. RESUMO Os sistemas de saneamento básico não são suficientes para atender as necessidades sanitárias nas áreas rurais do Brasil. Assim, um sistema anaeróbio descentralizado foi desenvolvido pela Embrapa para viabilizar o tratamento de esgoto doméstico. O efluente de esgoto tratado (EET) pode ser aplicado para substituir totalmente o N oriundo do fertilizante mineral requerido pelas plantas de milho, espécie vegetal típica cultivada por pequenos produtores brasileiros para alimentação animal. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi investigar as respostas da cultura do milho ao uso de EET como fertilizante. Um experimento de campo foi realizado em solo franco argilo arenoso em São Carlos, estado de São Paulo, Brasil, na safra de verão 2018-2019 utilizando uma cultivar de milho híbrido com dupla aptidão (produção de grãos e silagem). Foram avaliados quatro tratamentos sobre a aplicação de diferentes fontes de nutrientes, dispostos em blocos casualizados com três repetições: 1- NPK: uréia, superfosfato simples e cloreto de potássio como fontes de nutrientes; 2- EfPK: EET como fonte de N + PK de fertilizantes minerais; 3- Ef: apenas EET; 4- PK: apenas fertilizantes minerais. O EET foi aplicado na cultura por irrigação por sulcos curtos e fechados. O EET pode ser utilizado principalmente como fonte de nitrogênio e outros nutrientes para a nutrição da cultura do milho com base no conhecimento das concentrações de nutrientes do efluente. A aplicação fracionada de EET por fertirrigação pode levar a parâmetros de produtividade do milho próximos aos da aplicação de NPK utilizando apenas fertilizantes minerais como fonte de nutrientes. O reaproveitamento desse efluente é viável para a produção de milho em pequena escala, típica da agricultura familiar brasileira.

This article aims to analyze the view of undergraduate health students concerning academic procrastination and how they perceived an intervention program aimed at self-management of the university experience as a coping strategy. It adopted Bandura's Cognitive Social Theory as its theoretical foundation, mainly the constructs of self-regulation of learning and self-efficacy. The research involved 299 students from the Physical Education, Physiotherapy, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, and Social Work courses being carried out in three stages: 1) Application of an Academic Procrastination Scale questionnaire and an identification form for the participants; 2) intervention in small groups in the form of workshops based on conversation circles; 3) individualized intervention. It was concluded that procrastination is a behavior present in the students' daily lives and that it becomes important to create spaces for reflection and learning to experiment with a strategy that facilitates coping. The group intervention showed potency, as it made it possible to listen and exchange experiences. In it, the participants were able to analyze procrastination beyond the individual aspects

In this study, objectives have been made to evaluate the spatial and seasonal (dry and wet periods) variations of diffusive fluxes of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) in water-atmosphere interface and limnological variables (water and sediment) in densely urbanized wetland areas of a tropical reservoir located in the Sao Paulo metropolitan area. Three sampling stations (S1, S2, and S3) covering areas with different levels of aquatic pollution and land use were evaluated. Nonparametric analysis and one-way analysis of variance indicated the spatial and temporal influence of limnological variability on CH4 and CO2 fluxes. In general, S2 presented higher mean emissions for CH4 (0.31 g m(-2) day(-1)) and CO2 (60.9 g m(-2) day(-1)) compared with the other two stations in both sampling periods, in which maximum mean fluxes in S1 were 0.20 g m(-2) day(-1) and 18.3 g m(-2)day(-1), whereas in S3 the mean values were

The monitoring of chlorophyll content in grapevine leaves allows us to evaluate their N status, assisting with the information for the decision make about nutrient rate and application time to the vineyard. The present work aimed to propose an easy-to-use procedure for the calibration of a chlorophyll hand-held meter based on the NDVI homogeneous zones in a vineyard for the device readings and leaf sampling. We evaluated the wine grape ‘Chardonnay’ growing under drip irrigation in a vineyard located in the Southeast region of Brazil. Readings of the relative chlorophyll indices (a, b, and total) were taken in situ four times throughout the 2019 growing season, with the device placed on two leaves of every 40 pre-selected target plants in two homogeneous zones of NDVI previously defined in the vineyard. Subsequently, the chlorophyll and leaf nitrogen contents were determined in laboratory to relate them to the chlorophyll meter readings through generalized estimation equations. The chlorophyll meter is capable of estimating the levels of chlorophyll a, b and total by the models generated with an error of 0.98, 0.58, and 1.47 µg ml-1 cm-2 for calibration and of 1.03, 0.67, and 1.49 µg ml -1 cm-2 for prediction, respectively. The functions developed for the leaf N content present calibration error of 1.49 g kg-1 and prediction error of 3.39 g kg-1, but capable of providing an estimate when error is less than the amplitude of nitrogen sufficiency.

Objetiva-se revisar a literatura no que diz respeito à indução da lactação em mulheres transgênero, buscando publicações, em qualquer ano, que tratem dos aspectos pertinentes a esse tema. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa e sua sistematização deu-se através das seguintes etapas: a) identificação da questão norteadora, b) busca na literatura digital, c) avaliação dos achados, d) análise interpretativa dos resultados, e) discussão com sumarização do conhecimento. Para a busca, utilizou-se combinações dos seguintes termos de indexação: lactação, amamentação, mulheres trans e mulher transgênero (e seus correlatos em inglês). A coleta de dados foi realizada durante o mês de setembro de 2022 nas bases de dados PubMed, LILACS e SciELO. Inicialmente, 27 publicações foram identificadas durante a busca. Após a aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e de exclusão, obteve-se um total de 09 trabalhos para inclusão nesse estudo. É possível observar que há uma escassez de trabalhos sobre o tema na literatura mundial. O aleitamento configura-se como uma estratégia de afirmação de gênero para a mulher transgênero e deve ser encorajado sempre que possível. A produção de leite é possível através de um protocolo que consiste em: estimulação e expressão do tecido mamário, uso de antiandrogênios e de galactagogos e aumento com posterior redução dos níveis séricos de estrogênio e de progesterona, respectivamente. Conclui-se, portanto, que a indução da lactação em mulheres transgênero é factível, econômica, acessível e potencialmente segura. Todavia, faz-se necessário o fomento à pesquisa sobre essa temática a fim de responder os diversos questionamentos remanescentes existentes.

This study aimed to evaluate the fermentation pattern and dry-matter losses in corn (Zea mays L.) silage intercropped with Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu and Megathyrsus maximus cv. Mombasa grasses in different sowing modalities through crop–livestock integration. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, which were arranged in a 2 × 5 factorial scheme with four repetitions. The first factor consisted of the grass cultivars Marandu and Mombasa. The second factor was the sowing modalities of grasses intercropped with corn: (1) simultaneous row sowing and inter-row corn sowing (no fertilizer); (2) simultaneous row sowing and inter-row corn sowing (with fertilizer); (3) simultaneous sowing with double grass row in the corn inter-row; (4) delayed sowing inter-row at 7 days after corn emergence; and (5) delayed sowing inter-row at 14 days after corn emergence. The forage buffer capacity (BC), silage pH and ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N) content, forage (FORDM) and silage dry-matter (SILDM) percentages, gas losses (GL), effluent losses (EL), and dry-matter recovery (DMR) parameters on the ensilage were evaluated. Only forage BC, silage NH3-N, and silage DMR variables differed (p < 0.05) from the control silage (monocropped corn) when the integration was carried out. The grass cultivar factors and sowing modalities for BC and NH3-N variables had an effect. The intercropping of corn and Marandu grass or Mombasa grass, in any grass sowing modality, did not affect the quality of the silage.

A estruturação do processo de trabalho é crucial nas Ações de Controle da Hanseníase (ACH), e nesta revisão objetivou-se avaliar o processo de trabalho dos profissionais da Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS) para as ACH. Revisão integrativa em quatros bases de dados: MEDLINE Complete, Scielo, SCOPUS e Web Of Science utilizando os descritores “leprosy” e “primary health care”. Realizou-se a análise em profundidade de 29 artigos por meio de leitura, fichamento e organização dos resultados em análise temática. Evidenciou-se três categorias principais na avaliação do processo de trabalho paras as ACH: I – Características gerais do processo de trabalho nas ACH; II - Estrutura: Espaço físico e recursos materiais e III – Profissionais de saúde, usuário e o processo de trabalho nas ACH. A descentralização das ACH para APS tem se mostrado efetiva e capaz de produzir indicadores da hanseníase mais reais. Entretanto, diversos aspectos relacionados ao processo de trabalho reduzem o potencial da APS no controle da hanseníase. As contribuições desta revisão para a prática incluem a identificação de práticas exitosas da APS no controle da hanseníase e de fragilidades comuns no processo de trabalho da APS, além de apontar estratégias de enfrentamento com base na literatura.

Studies focus on the process of business model innovation as performed by start-up firms, while incumbent industrial firms' attempts to innovate their business models often fail, being hindered by path-dependency. There is a lack of understanding of what in a business model of such firms is modified to produce an innovation that gives rise to value creation. Based on explorations of twenty-two incumbent industrial firms, five dimensions of a business model are identified that, when modified, may result in business model innovation by incumbents. These dimensions are exchangeable, activity, actor, transaction mechanism, and governance setup. The results show how business model innovation can be systemically characterized in terms of several dimensions that must be modified in concert to produce an innovative business model. The results also show that such business model innovations require novel uses of digital technologies that enable new activities to be incorporated into existing business models.

As lacunas em relação ao uso de tecnologias digitais na educação tornaram-se mais evidentes com a pandemia do SARS-CoV-2. Objetivo geral deste trabalho: oferecer formação a professoras de Educação Infantil para o uso de recursos digitais. Objetivos específicos: sondar os principais desafios de professoras da Educação Infantil para o trabalho remoto no contexto da pandemia; oferecer oficinas para apropriação de recursos tecnológicos adequados ao trabalho remoto na Educação Infantil. A metodologia contemplou a sondagem das necessidades docentes e a oferta de oficinas tecnológicas alinhadas com suas expectativas. Os resultados mostraram que as professoras necessitam de uma formação adequada às especificidades da Educação Infantil.

Objectives: This study explores the safety and efficacy of thin strut MeRes100 sirolimus-eluting bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BRS) in patients with de novo coronary artery lesions. Background: In interventional cardiology, the emergence of BRS technology is catalyzing the next paradigm shift. Methods: The MeRes-1 Extend was a multicenter, prospective, single-arm, open-label study enrolling 64 patients in Spain, Macedonia, Brazil, South Africa, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The safety endpoint was major adverse cardiac events (MACE) which composed of cardiac death, myocardial infarction (MI), and ischemia-driven target lesion revascularization (ID-TLR). The imaging efficacy endpoint was mean in-scaffold late lumen loss (LLL) evaluated by quantitative coronary angiography (QCA). Optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging was performed at baseline and 6-month follow-up. Results: A total of 69 target lesions were identified in 64 enrolled patients (mean age 58.30 ± 9.02 years). Of the treated lesions, 49 (71.01%) lesions were of type B2/C. Procedural and device success was achieved in 64 and 62 patients, respectively. At 2-year follow-up, MACE was reported in one patient (1.61%) in the form of ID-TLR. There was no case of MI, cardiac death or scaffold thrombosis through 2-year. In a subset of 32 patients, paired QCA showed mean in-scaffold LLL of 0.18 ± 0.31 mm at 6-month follow-up. In a subset of 21 patients, OCT revealed 97.95 ± 3.69% strut coverage with mean scaffold area of 7.56 ± 1.79 mm2 and no evidence of strut malapposition. Conclusions: The clinical and imaging outcomes of MeRes-1 Extend trial demonstrated favorable safety and efficacy of MeRes100 sirolimus-eluting BRS in patients with de novo coronary artery lesions.

A presente tese é composta por três artigos, um teórico e dois empíricos, e tem como objetivo geral analisar a relevância dos investimentos em pesquisa e desenvolvimento, ou P&D, para a geração de valor pelas firmas norte-americanas e o cenário atual da dicotomia empresas de alta e baixa tecnologia quanto ao perfil financeiro. Trabalhos recentes apontaram acentuado acréscimo dos investimentos em P&D nas empresas norte-americanas, elevando a intangibilidade dos ativos, e com potenciais consequências às demais decisões financeiras, como de liquidez. Diante disso, o primeiro capítulo analisa o conjunto de incentivos subjacente ao aumento dos investimentos em P&D. Contribuições da literatura em inovação foram organizadas conforme os três cenários da função de geração de valor pelas decisões de investimentos, que são compra, venda e inação, e permitiram apontar, usando proposições, evidências de facilitadores para a geração de valor por P&D. Por exemplo, a queda dos preços dos insumos pode incentivar empresas de setores de baixa tecnologia a engajarem em projetos de P&D, levando-as a acumular mais caixa para proteger o estoque de conhecimento recém-adquirido sem frustrar o pagamento das obrigações, tornando-se semelhante às empresas dos setores frequentemente nomeados como de alta tecnologia. O segundo artigo analisou a relação entre os investimentos em P&D efetuados ao longo de 2019 e os retornos anormais ocorridos em torno do choque da pandemia Covid-19. A ocorrência do choque é útil para examinar a habilidade dos investidores em agir conforme as informações disponíveis e a relação entre a variável independente de interesse e a variável dependente com menor viés de endogeneidade, que ocorre se o administrador consegue manipular a variável dependente por meio da variável independente de interesse. Os resultados das regressões diff-in-diff apontaram que a relação positiva entre retornos anormais e gastos com P&D persistiu diante do choque. Usando o choque para regressões triple-diff, as empresas de alta tecnologia registraram vantagem para ofertar retornos em comparação às empresas de baixa tecnologia, sugerindo persistência da dicotomia empresas de alta e baixa tecnologia. O terceiro artigo repetiu o uso do choque da Covid-19 em regressões diff-in-diff e triple-diff. Dessa vez, para analisar a relação entre liquidez de curto prazo e retornos anormais, e a relevância da liquidez para a relação entre retornos anormais e gastos com P&D conforme a dicotomia empresas de alta tecnologia versus baixa tecnologia. Identificou-se equilíbrio entre custos e benefícios pelo acúmulo de liquidez, pela relação em forma de U invertido entre retornos anormais e a proporção de caixa diante dos ativos totais. Novamente, diante do choque o caixa foi mais relevante para as empresas de alta tecnologia gerarem retornos por projetos de P&D que para as empresas de baixa tecnologia, em mais um indício de persistência da dicotomia This doctoral dissertation is composed of three papers, one theoretical and two empirical, and its general purpose is to analyze the relevance of R&D expenses for value creation and the current scenario of the dichotomy of high and low technology companies regarding the financial profile of US firms. Recent studies have pointed to a sharp increase in R&D expenses in US companies, increasing the intangibility of assets, and with potential consequences for other financial decisions, such as liquidity. Therefore, the first chapter analyzes the set of incentives underlying the increase in investments in R&D. Contributions from the literature on innovation were organized according to the three scenarios of the value generation function by investment decisions, which are buy, sell and inaction, and allowed to point out, using propositions, evidence of facilitators for the generation of value by R&D. For example, falling input prices can encourage companies in low-tech sectors to engage in R&D projects, leading them to accumulate more cash to protect the stock of newly acquired knowledge without frustrating the payment of obligations. Hence they came similar to companies in sectors often named as high tech. The second article analyzed the relationship between R&D expenses made throughout 2019 and the abnormal returns that occurred around the shock from Covid-19 pandemic. The occurrence of the shock is useful to examine investors\' ability to act according to available information and the relationship between the independent variable of interest and the dependent variable with less endogeneity bias, which occurs if the manager is able to manipulate the dependent variable through independent variable of interest. The results of the diff-in-diff regressions pointed out that the positive relationship between abnormal returns and R&D expenses persisted in the face of the shock. Using the shock for triple-diff regressions, high-tech companies registered an advantage in offering returns compared to low-tech companies, suggesting the persistence of the dichotomy of high- and low-tech companies. The third article repeated the use of the Covid-19 shock in diff-in-diff and triple-diff regressions. This time, to analyze the relationship between short-term liquidity and abnormal returns, and the relevance of liquidity to the relationship between abnormal returns and R&D expenditure according to the dichotomy of high-tech versus low-tech companies. A balance between costs and benefits was identified by the accumulation of liquidity, by the inverted U-shaped relationship between abnormal returns and the proportion of cash in relation to total assets. Again, given the shock, cash was more relevant for high-tech companies to generate returns from R&D projects than for low-tech companies, in yet another indication of the persistence of the dichotomy

Com a crescente onda de polarização que atravessa atualmente a grande maioria dos países desenvolvidos, incluindo Portugal, torna-se de urgente relevância combater a desinformação e os dogmas ideológicos. Este estudo pretende assim analisar possíveis divisões ideológicas existentes ao nível da fiscalidade e da despesa pública, utilizando para isso sete variáveis cujo crescimento foi analisado desde 1990 a 2019. Para a realização da análise, o comportamento das variáveis foi testado através do Teste V de Cramer, que pretende verificar se as variáveis se relacionavam com a ideologia do governo em funções. Para o efeito, foram utilizadas diferentes perspetivas de análise, de modo a perceber se as variáveis poderiam registar comportamentos díspares conforme a conjuntura política registada no momento. Das 28 relações testadas, 25 registaram um valor considerado inferior a “Moderado”, destacando uma clara ausência de influência política na fiscalidade e despesa pública, remetendo o comportamento dessas áreas para outros fatores como a conjuntura do país, a influência externa ou a existência de um sistema político resistente a mudanças significativas. A polarização política pode, noutras áreas do plano público, encontrar evidência empírica que a sustente, no entanto, e perante os resultados obtidos neste estudo, a mesma revela-se injustificada no que concerne à fiscalidade e à despesa pública. Regarding the recent rise of political polarization emerging across most developed countries, including Portugal, fighting the misinformation and dogmas becomes crucial. Using seven variables, this study aims to analyse potential political asymmetries in fiscal policy and public expenditure from 1990 to 2019. Therefore, the variation of these factors was tested using the V Cramer Test, which measures the association between the aforementioned variables and the government ideology of the respective year. Additionally, different perspectives were used to test these associations, to understand if the variation of the variables could be affected by the different political conjectures of the time. From the 28 associations measured in the analysis, 25 were considered as “Moderate” or less, highlighting the absence of influence of political ideology with the fiscal policies and public expenditure registered in the years of the study. As such, the variation of the variables must be influenced by other factors, such as the country's situation, external influence, or even a political system reluctant to drastic policy changes. The political polarization could be found in other governmental areas, however, and according to the evidence provided by this study, the polarization shows to be exaggerated regarding fiscal policies and public expenditure.

O presente relatório científico está subordinado ao tema: “A Academia Militar, uma escola de comando e liderança para entidades civis”. Os objetivos estabelecidos tiveram como intuito compreender a influência das Atividades Formativas de Comando e Liderança para civis (AFCL), ministradas pela Academia Militar (AM), no desenvolvimento de competências pessoais e interpessoais dos formandos externos. Relativamente à metodologia, seguiu-se o método indutivo com uma abordagem qualitativa. Primeiramente foi feita uma pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, e posteriormente foram realizadas entrevistas e inquéritos. Este trabalho de investigação é apresentado em quatro capítulos. O primeiro apresenta o enquadramento teórico do tema; o segundo explica a metodologia utilizada, o terceiro é composto pela apresentação e discussão dos resultados, e, no quarto e último capítulo apresentam-se as conclusões de todo o trabalho desenvolvido. Em resumo, as expetativas dos formandos foram, na sua generalidade, correspondidas e ultrapassadas e que o autoconhecimento aparece como a competência mais percecionada por parte dos formandos. As AFCL potenciam nos formandos um leque de oportunidades e pode-se também concluír que há um conjunto de aspetos e temáticas a melhorar, a reformular ou a introduzir em futuros Treinos Intensivos de Liderança (TIL), quer a nível de conteúdo, quer a nível de estruturação dos cursos.

Passive stretching is commonly used in sport by physiologists, fitness coaches, and coaches as part of a warm-up session before engaging in various sports. It is possible to find reports in the literature that performing passive stretching can improve performance in strength exercises and/or reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. However, scientific evidence has shown that stretching before power exercises can harm performance. This review aimed to investigate in the literature the effects of passive stretching on muscle performance in vertical jumps. The search was carried out in the SciELO database and also in the Google Academic search tool and the strategy used for the search was to look for titles that were relevant and linked to the desired subject, without language restrictions, but mainly languages were observed english, portuguese and spanish. The exclusion criterion for the studies was directed only to the literature review type and only 11 articles were selected for their use in the work, with no established chronological limit, however, giving preference to more current studies. In most studies, pre-exercise stretching harmed muscle performance and in others, they did not show differences or even an improvement, although statistically insignificant. Thus, it can be concluded that muscle stretching performed before strength exercise is not the most efficient form of warm-up or preparation for muscle performance.

The improvement or acquisition of socioemotional skills contributes to the academic and personal adaptation of university students. The way students think about themselves and others influence their social skills and well-being. Considering the importance of social competence for professional practice in the face of new social realities, the university must invest in programs that promote the socio-emotional development of students. This study compared the effects of interventions based on Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy and Psychoeducation on assertive skills and subjective well-being. This study involved 25 undergraduate students of a public university. The students were randomly allocated to three groups, including the Control group, and they were evaluated by means of questionnaires, inventories, scales, and written evaluation of the group process. The program consisted of 10 meetings and a 6-week follow-up. Irrational beliefs were reduced and their assertive skills’ scores increased in the post-intervention and follow-up evaluations, regardless of the group. Only verbal reports from participants indicated an increase in well-being. The students’ written reports after the end of the meetings indicate that the two forms of intervention were evaluated as promoting change by the students. One of the limitations of the study is the size of the groups. Despite the very small sample size, the study highlights that developing a set of flexible beliefs is fundamental to the exercise of assertiveness.

The use of mulch contributes to the reduction of water consumption and weed infestation in strawberry cultivation. Recycled paper, being biodegradable, has great potential to replace plastics. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the water consumption and agronomic performance of strawberry subjected to different wetted areas and mulches. The wet areas tested were 40% (WA40) and 70% (WA70) imposed by a drip irrigation system. The different types of mulch were: white polyethylene (WHP), black polyethylene (BLP), recycled paper (REP) and no mulch (NM). BLP, REP and WHP mulches promoted the same weed control. The number of fruits per plant, fruit length, fruit yield, and water productivity did not differ for the factors wetted area and types of mulch. Higher fruit mass and diameter were found in the WA40 treatment, while the mulches favored only fruit mass. Thus, fruit yield showed no difference, and only water consumption differed between the wet areas and between the types of mulch. Strawberry water consumption was higher in WA70. In relation to fruit waste, it was found that the WHP and BLP mulches provided higher values than REP and NM. Thus, the recycled paper, combined with a wet area of 40%, is recommended as a mulch in strawberry production.
