Physicochemical traits, such as 100-seed weight (100-SW), water absorption ratio (WAR), sprouting and storage protein fractions of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) seeds, contribute to the quality of soy products processed from them. In the present investigation, 108 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from LSb1 × NRC7 were genotyped using 105 polymorphic simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers across the genome. These RILs were phenotyped for 100-SW, WAR, sprout yield, hypocotyl length, and glycinin (11S), and β-conglycinin (7S) subunits of storage protein also. The study revealed common genomic regions governing multiple seed traits, besides the identification of quantitative trait loci (QTL) for individual seed traits. Of the seven QTL identified for 100-SW and 10 for WAR, five QTL were novel for both the traits. All four QTL identified for sprout yield and two QTL for 11S/7S ratio were novel. Five QTL were identified for multiple seed traits. These genomic regions common to different seed traits should be useful for pyramiding desirable traits for 100-SW, WAR, sprout yield, and 11S/7S ratio in the same genetic background for developing soybean varieties suitable for processing food products. Background and Aim: Recent recommendations are to use isotonic fluid as maintenance intravenous fluid (mIVF) in children. The most commonly prescribed fluid is 0.9% NS (normal saline) but there are concerns about hypernatremia, fluid overload and hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis leading to increased morbidity and even mortality mainly due to its adverse effects on kidneys. Most of the available literature is in the adult population. There is still not enough evidence to approve or disapprove 0.9% NS as a safe mIVF in children. This study was conducted to assess the clinical and biochemical effects of 0.9% sodium chloride as an isotonic mIVF in the general non-critically ill pediatric patients. Methods: This observational study was conducted on admitted children requiring mIVF for a minimum 24 hours. Changes in the blood pressure (BP) and biochemical parameters like serum sodium (S Na), serum chloride (S Cl) and bicarbonate were evaluated and the incidence of hypo/hypernatremia, hyperchloremia and metabolic acidosis was calculated at 24 and 48 hours from baseline. Results: Two hundred and fifty children were analyzed. The mean age of the patients was 3.79±3.2 years with majority (43.6%) in the age group 2 months-1 year. There was no significant change in BP at any time point. The mean serum chloride level was 103.81±4.717, 104.5±4.581, and 105.28±4.545 at baseline, 24 hours and 48 hours respectively with a significant rise at 48 hours of mIVF (pvalue< 0.001) and among 3 time points (p-value<0.01]. There was a significant decrease in the bicarbonate level at 48 hours from baseline (p<0.05). Conclusion: According to the results, 0.9% NS as mIVF in non-critically ill pediatric patients causes a significant increase in the serum chloride level leading to hyperchloremia and metabolic acidosis. Introduction: The morphology of the epithelium of the oral lips comprised keratinized external epithelium (anteriorly) and nonkeratinized or sometimes parakeratinized mucous membrane epithelium (posteriorly). Knowledge of morphometry of the lip lining helps in deciding the best site for choosing graft for its better uptake during several dermal grafting procedures following trauma or tumor excision following craniofacial cancers or cosmetic procedures. Materials and Methods: Ten human male cadavers were procured at the Department of Anatomy King George's Medical University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The rectangle-shaped skin specimen through the right commissure of the lip which included the skin, mucocutaneous junction, and mucosa was stained with hematoxylin and eosin stain. A total of 30 slides were prepared. Thus, the readings were obtained for three regions, respectively, with the help of CAT-CAM E-series HD cameras which were installed in a light microscope. Results: Thickness of skin (epidermis + dermis) of the lip ranged from 756 μm to 1068 μm among males. Epidermal thickness increases on moving from the cutaneous region to the mucosa region of the lip. The lowest contribution of the stratum corneum in thickness of the epidermis was observed in the vermillion region, while the highest contribution was observed in the skin region. It was found to be absent in the mucosa region of the lip. Rete pegs at the dermoepidermal junction was found to be maximum in the vermillion region and minimum in the skin region. Its depth increased as we move from the skin to the mucosa region of the lip. Depth of the dermis was found to be maximum in the skin region, while minimum in the vermillion region. It ranged between 291 μm and 693 μm. Conclusion: Care should be taken while using dermal fillers in lip augmentation surgeries, especially in the vermillion region due to its close proximity to musculature in the core of the lip. Introduction: With the rising incidence of noncommunicable diseases such as stroke in low- and medium-income countries like India, it has become imperative to identify the potentially modifiable risk factors and focus on prevention. Microalbuminuria (MA) is now gaining recognition as an independent risk factor for ischemic stroke. It has also been studied as a prognostic marker for acute ischemic stroke. Thus, it was intended to study MA in acute ischemic stroke and its correlation with stroke severity. Methods: A single-center case–control study was done after enrolling seventy cases of ischemic stroke with age between 40 and 65 years, satisfying inclusion and exclusion criteria during a span of 2 years. Fifty patients in the age group of 40–65 years with no history of stroke and transient ischemic attack and fulfilling the exclusion criteria were taken as control. All cases were subjected to detailed history, systemic clinical examination, and biochemical and radiological investigations with assessment of National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) for grading of severity of ischemic stroke with semi-quantitative measurement of MA (urinary albumin: creatinine ratio). Results: Hypertension (62.86%), diabetes mellitus (34.29%), and smoking (27.14%) were found to be the major risk factors for acute ischemic stroke. MA was present in 48.57% of cases, whereas in the control group, MA was present only in 18% of patients. Our study showed MA as an independent risk factor for acute ischemic stroke. On multivariate logistic regression analysis of risk factors of acute ischemic stroke, odd ratio for MA was 4.312 with P = 0.005. In our study, cases with mean NIHSS 17.71 and median NIHSS 18 were positive for MA, while cases with mean NIHSS 13.03 and median NIHSS 12 were negative for MA, that is, cases with higher mean and median NIHSS were positive for MA. This association of MA with NIHSS was statistically significant (P = 0.036). Anemia is considered as most common cause of malnutrition and it has great significance in public health affecting children adolescents and reproductive age group women in worldwide.1 Objectives: To assess the level of hemoglobin level among women in reproductive age group, before administration of drumstick leaves juice supplementation for both experimental and control group. To assess the effectiveness of drumstick leaves juice supplementation on hemoglobin among women in reproductive age group in experimental group. Method: The research approach was a quasi experimental study was done by one month of period, in 60 reproductive age group women (15-45) in the army cantonment area Bathinda Punjab. Drumstick leaves juice was freshly prepared and administer for 30 days .pre test and post test estimation of hemoglobin was done be using cyanmethamoglobin method. Result: The mean hemoglobin level of experimental group before administering 100ml drumstick leaves juice was 11.43 with a standard deviation ± 0.91 The mean hemoglobin level of experimental group after administering 100ml drumstick leaves juice was ±12.36 with a standard deviation is ± 0.69.the p value is 0.69. Based on the theory of first principles spin-density functional calculations within the framework of the CA local density approximation, we examine the structural, elastic, electronic and magnetic properties of ternary alloys CdS and CdSe doped with manganese at x = 0.125. We found that Cd0.875Mn0.125Z (S, Se) materials are ferromagnetic in nature. The total and partial curves of density and the electronic bond structures of states show that Cd0.875Mn0.125Z (S, Se) are ferromagnetic and can be potentially good candidates for the spintronic applications. Lipoxygenase (LOX) isozymes free soybean is critical for soy products with reduced off-flavour. In order to develope Lox3 free soybean, routine visual/spectrophotometric methods are performed on half seed for identification and egregation of null Lox3 plants from the population. They are cumbersome in distinguishing heterozygotes from homozygotes, involve the risk of damaging the embryo and delay the development of finished products by one generation. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and sequence tagged sites (STS) markers designed previously from the mutation in Lx3 gene of a triple-null Canadian soybean genotype OX948 could identify seedlings carrying null allele of Lx3 in a population derived from OX948. In the present investigation, the utility of these molecular markers in F2 population derived from a cross between Lox3-null donor genotype PI205085 and Indian soybean cultivar JS335 (Lox3+ve) has been validated. STS marker distinguished the homozygous dominant (Lx3Lx3), homozygous recessive (lx3lx3) and heterozygous (Lx3lx3) plants by generating PCR fragments of 476 bp, 396 bp and both the amplicons, respectively. SNP marker generated amplicon (296 bp) only in null allele carrying plants (Lx3lx3/lx3lx3) plants, and did not amplify homozygous dominant (Lx3Lx3). Using SNP marker, the target plants carrying null allele of Lx3 in F2 population were advanced to F6 generation. Finally, STS marker was employed to identify only homozygous recessive plants (lx3lx3). This resulted in the development of Lox3 free soybean genotypes, which can be used for development of double null (lx1lx1lx3lx3/lx2lx2lx3lx3) or triple null lipoxygenase (lx1lx1lx2lx2lx3lx3) soybean. Novel hydrazone Schiff base viz. 6,6’,8,8’-tetramethyl-4,4’,7,7’- tetrahydro-7,7’-bi-1,2,4,5-tetrazocine-3,3’(2H,2’H)-dithionehas been synthesized from3,4-diacetylhexane-2,5-dione and thiocarbohydrazideandcharacterized. The bicyclichydrazone Schiff basehas been found active against bacteria[S.aureus and K.pneumoniaae] and fungi [A.niger and Trichophytonrubrum]. DNA photo-cleavage and antiangiogenic behavior of synthesized hydrazone Schiff base has been studied. Furthermore,the synthesizedhydrazone Schiff basesignificantly inhibited cell proliferation with IC50 value 62.5μg/ml. The flow-cytometry analysis of hydrazone Schiff base treated human breast cancer cells showed that apoptosis rate increased with increase in dose.
