Raman spectroscopy (RS) has demonstrated its utility in neurooncological diagnostics, spanning from intraoperative tumor detection to the analysis of tissue samples peri- and postoperatively. In this study, we employed Raman spectroscopy (RS) to monitor alterations in the molecular vibrational characteristics of a broad range of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) intracranial neoplasms (including primary brain tumors and meningiomas, as well as brain metastases) and considered specific challenges when employing RS on FFPE tissue during the routine neuropathological workflow. We spectroscopically measured 82 intracranial neoplasms on CaF2 slides (in total, 679 individual measurements) and set up a machine learning framework to classify spectral characteristics by splitting our data into training cohorts and external validation cohorts. The effectiveness of our machine learning algorithms was assessed by using common performance metrics such as AUROC and AUPR values. With our trained random forest algorithms, we distinguished among various types of gliomas and identified the primary origin in cases of brain metastases. Moreover, we spectroscopically diagnosed tumor types by using biopsy fragments of pure necrotic tissue, a task unattainable through conventional light microscopy. In order to address misclassifications and enhance the assessment of our models, we sought out significant Raman bands suitable for tumor identification. Through the validation phase, we affirmed a considerable complexity within the spectroscopic data, potentially arising not only from the biological tissue subjected to a rigorous chemical procedure but also from residual components of the fixation and paraffin-embedding process. In this paper, we explore a novel model for pricing Chinese convertible bonds that seamlessly integrates machine learning techniques with traditional models. The least squares Monte Carlo (LSM) method is effective in handling multiple state variables and complex path dependencies through simple regression analysis. In our approach, we incorporate machine learning techniques, specifically support vector regression (SVR) and random forest (RF). By employing Bayesian optimization to fine-tune the random forest, we achieve improved predictive performance. This integration is designed to enhance the precision and predictive capabilities of convertible bond pricing. Through the use of simulated data and real data from the Chinese convertible bond market, the results demonstrate the superiority of our proposed model over the classic LSM, confirming its effectiveness. The development of a pricing model incorporating machine learning techniques proves particularly effective in addressing the complex pricing system of Chinese convertible bonds. Non-destructive, fast, and accurate prediction of soil organic matter content in farmland is of great significance for soil fertility assessment and rational fertilization. In the process of soil organic matter prediction, it is important to give full play to the advantages of different prediction models and to integrate different prediction models to innovatively construct a combined prediction model of soil organic matter content so as to improve the prediction accuracy and generalization ability of the model. In this study, the soil organic matter content of agricultural soils was taken as the research object, and the visible near-infrared hyperspectral curves of soils were measured by the Starter Kit indoor mobile scanning platform (Headwall Photonics, Bolton, MA, USA), and the original spectral curves were firstly de-noised by Savitzky–Golay (S-G) smoothing. Secondly, the smoothed and denoised spectral data were subjected to a first-order differential transform, and the features were selected based on the first-order differential transformed spectral data using the L1-paradigm algorithm features. Then, secondly, eight algorithms based on the selected feature bands, such as LASSO Regression (LASSO) (Model 1), Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) (Model 2), Random Forest (RF) (Model 3), Gaussian Kernel Regression (GKR) (Model 4), Ridge Regression (Model 5), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) (Model 6), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) (Model 7), and Support Vector Regression (SVR) (Model 8), were applied to construct a single-prediction model of soil organic matter content. Finally, a superior linear combination-prediction model was proposed by the eight single-prediction models constructed, and the standard deviation-based prediction validity was added to test the model. The results showed the following: (1) the weights of the eight single-prediction models in the combined prediction model were ω 1 * = 0.099 , ω 2 * = 0.202 , ω 3 * = 0.000 , ω 4 * = 0.357 , ω 5 * = 0.088 , ω 6 * = 0.089 , ω 7 * = 0.000 , ω 8 * = 0.165 , respectively; (2) The average precision E of the predicted values of soil organic matter content constructed based on the eight single-prediction models was 0.856; the average standard deviation σ was 0.181, and the average prediction validity M was 0.702; (3) The accuracy E of the predicted value of soil organic matter content of the combined model was 0.893, which was 4.322% higher than the average accuracy of the single model; the standard deviation of the combined model was 0.129, which was 28.333% lower than the average standard deviation of the single model, and the prediction validity M of the combined model was 0.778, which was 10.826% higher than the average prediction validity of the single model. The combined model can be used for the effective estimation of soil organic matter content in farmland with visible near-infrared spectral data, which can provide a basis and reference for the rapid detection of soil organic matter content in farmland. In the cultivation of maize, the leaf area index (LAI) serves as an important metric to determine the development of the plant. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that capture RGB images, along with random forest regression (RFR), can be used to indirectly measure LAI through vegetative indices. Research using these techniques is at an early stage, especially in the context of maize for silage. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate which vegetative indices have the strongest correlations with maize LAI and to compare two regression methods. RFR, ridge regression (RR), support vector machine (SVM), and multiple linear regression (MLR) regressions were performed in Python for comparison using images obtained in an area cultivated with maize for silage. The results showed that the RGB spectral indices showed saturation when the LAI reached 3 m2 m−2, with the VEG (vegetable index), COM (combination), ExGR (red–green excess), and TGI (triangular greenness index) indices selected for modeling. In terms of regression, RFR showed superior performance with an R2 value of 0.981 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.138 m2 m−2. Rice–duckweed coculturing as an advanced technique has proven effective for weed control. However, the complex environmental interactions underlying its effectiveness remain unclear. In this study, a controlled pot experiment was conducted to isolate the shading effect of duckweeds (Landoltia punctata and Spirodela polyrhiza) from their intricate environmental interactions with paddy weeds (Cyperus difformis, Eclipta prostrata, and Ammannia auriculata). The results revealed that as the duckweeds grew, there were notable decreases in total weed density (52.41–77.01%) and biomass (42.33–99.23%) while rice biomass remained unaffected. Duckweed covering allowed less than 8.64% of light to pass through and led to decreases in environmental temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen concentration in the floodwater, but had little impact on inorganic nitrogen levels. Through screening with random forest analysis and structural equation modelling, it was found that weed density and biomass were predominantly influenced by the reduced light transmittance (54.1% and 77.2%, p ≤ 0.001) resulting from duckweed covering while the decline in dissolved oxygen content partly influenced weed density (18%). In conclusion, this study's results bring a different perspective, confirming the sunlight-shading effect of duckweed as a critical mechanism significantly inhibiting the germination and growth of weeds. Uncertainty presents unfamiliar circumstances or incomplete information that may be difficult to handle with a single model of a traditional machine learning algorithm. They are possibly limited by inadequate data, an ambiguous model, and learning performance to make a prediction. Therefore, ensemble modeling is proposed as a powerful model for enhancing predictive capabilities and robustness. This study aims to apply Bayesian prediction to ensemble modeling because it can encode conditional dependencies between variables and present the reasoning model using the BMIC model. The BMIC has clarified knowledge in the model which is ready for learning. Then, it was selected as the base model to be integrated with well-known algorithms such as logistic regression, K-nearest neighbors, decision trees, random forests, support vector machines (SVMs), neural networks, naive Bayes, and XGBoost classifiers. Also, the Bayesian neural network (BNN) and the probabilistic Bayesian neural network (PBN) were considered to compare their performance as a single model. The findings of this study indicate that the ensemble model of the BMIC with some traditional algorithms, which are SVM, random forest, neural networks, and XGBoost classifiers, returns 96.3% model accuracy in prediction. The field of interior home design has witnessed a growing utilization of machine learning. However, the subjective nature of aesthetics poses a significant challenge due to its variability among individuals and cultures. This paper proposes an applied machine learning method to enhance manufactured custom doors in a proper and aesthetic home design environment. Since there are millions of possible custom door models based on door types, wood species, dyeing, paint, and glass types, it is impossible to foresee a home design model fitting every custom door. To generate the classification data, a home design expert has to label thousands of door/home design combinations with the different colors and shades utilized in home designs. These data train a random forest classifier in a supervised learning context. The classifier predicts a home design according to a particular custom door. This method is applied in the following context: A web page displays a choice of doors to a customer. The customer selects the desired door properties, which are sent to a server that returns an aesthetic home design model for this door. This door configuration generates a series of images through the Unity 3D engine module, which are returned to the web client. The customer finally visualizes their door in an aesthetic home design context. The results show the random forest classifier's good performance, with an accuracy level of 86.8%, in predicting suitable home design, marking the way for future developments requiring subjective evaluations. In order to study the distribution characteristics of soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil organic carbon storage (SOCS) among different wetland types in Dandou Sea tidal wetland in Guangxi, firstly, based on Sentinel–2 imaging and random forest algorithm, combined with the existing tidal wetland data, a 10 m resolution tidal wetland dataset in Guangxi from 2019 to 2023 was generated, covering mangroves, salt marshes and tidal flats. The results show that the overall accuracy of the recognition results is higher than 96%, and the Kappa coefficient is higher than 0.95, which indicates high accuracy. Subsequently, the distribution characteristics and influencing factors of SOC and SOCS in different habitats were analyzed. The results showed that the SOC content of mangroves and salt marshes was higher than that of tidal flats. The SOC content of mangrove, salt marshes and tidal flats in 0–60 cm soil layer was 5.30–10.42 g/kg, 7.60–9.84 g/kg, and 1.29–2.25 g/kg, respectively. The changes of SOCS were 12.41–26.48 t/ha, 19.58–24.15 t/ha, and 3.61–6.86 t/ha, respectively. With the increase of soil depth, the SOC and SOCS of mangroves decreased gradually, and the SOC and SOCS of salt marshes increased gradually, and SOC and SOCS were mainly affected by soil bulk density (BD), soil moisture content (MC) and pH. In petroleum engineering, real‐time lithology identification is very important for reservoir evaluation, drilling decisions and petroleum geological exploration. A lithology identification method while drilling based on machine learning and mud logging data is studied in this paper. This method can effectively utilize downhole parameters collected in realtime during drilling, to identify lithology in real‐time and provide a reference for optimization of drilling parameters. Given the imbalance of lithology samples, the synthetic minority over‐sampling technique (SMOTE) and Tomek link were used to balance the sample number of five lithologies. Meanwhile, this paper introduces Tent map, random opposition‐based learning and dynamic perceived probability to the original crow search algorithm (CSA), and establishes an improved crow search algorithm (ICSA). In this paper, ICSA is used to optimize the hyperparameter combination of random forest (RF), extremely random trees (ET), extreme gradient boosting (XGB), and light gradient boosting machine (LGBM) models. In addition, this study combines the recognition advantages of the four models. The accuracy of lithology identification by the weighted average probability model reaches 0.877. Real-time intelligent lithology identification while drilling is vital to realizing downhole closed-loop drilling. The complex and changeable geological environment in the drilling makes lithology identification face many challenges. This paper studies the problems of difficult feature information extraction, low precision of thin-layer identification and limited applicability of the model in intelligent lithologic identification. The author tries to improve the comprehensive performance of the lithology identification model from three aspects: data feature extraction, class balance, and model design. A new real-time intelligent lithology identification model of dynamic felling strategy weighted random forest algorithm (DFW-RF) is proposed. According to the feature selection results, gamma ray and 2 MHz phase resistivity are the logging while drilling (LWD) parameters that significantly influence lithology identification. The comprehensive performance of the DFW-RF lithology identification model has been verified in the application of 3 wells in different areas. By comparing the prediction results of five typical lithology identification algorithms, the DFW-RF model has a higher lithology identification accuracy rate and F1 score. This model improves the identification accuracy of thin-layer lithology and is effective and feasible in different geological environments. The DFW-RF model plays a truly efficient role in the realtime intelligent identification of lithologic information in closed-loop drilling and has greater applicability, which is worthy of being widely used in logging interpretation. We introduce a simple variant of a purely random forest, called an absolute random forest (ARF) used for clustering. At every node, splits of units are determined by a randomly chosen feature and a random threshold drawn from a uniform distribution whose support, the range of the selected feature in the root node, does not change. This enables closed‐form estimators of parameters, such as pairwise proximities, to be obtained without having to grow a forest. The probabilistic structure corresponding to an ARF is called a treeless absolute random forest (TARF). With high probability, the algorithm will split units whose feature vectors are far apart and keep together units whose feature vectors are similar. Thus, the underlying structure of the data drives the growth of the tree. The expected value of pairwise proximities is obtained for three pathway functions. One, a completely common pathway function, is an indicator of whether a pair of units follow the same path from the root to the leaf node. The properties of TARF‐based proximity estimators for clustering and classification are compared to other methods in eight real‐world datasets and in simulations. Class imbalance is a common and critical challenge in machine learning classification problems, resulting in low prediction accuracy. While numerous methods, especially data augmentation methods, have been proposed to address this issue, a method that works well on one dataset may perform poorly on another. To the best of our knowledge, there is still no one single best approach for handling class imbalance that can be uniformly applied. In this paper, we propose an approach named smart data augmentation (SDA), which aims to augment imbalanced data in an optimal way to maximize downstream classification accuracy. The key novelty of SDA is an equation that can bring about an augmentation method that provides a unified representation of existing sampling methods for handling multi‐level class imbalance and allows easy fine‐tuning. This framework allows SDA to be seen as a generalization of traditional methods, which in turn can be viewed as specific cases of SDA. Empirical results on a wide range of datasets demonstrate that SDA could significantly improve the performance of the most popular classifiers such as random forest, multi‐layer perceptron, and histogram‐based gradient boosting. As primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) primarily affects the salivary glands, saliva can serve as an indicator of the glands' pathophysiology and the disease's status. This study aims to illustrate the salivary proteomic profiles of pSS patients and identify potential candidate biomarkers for diagnosis. The discovery set contained 49 samples (24 from pSS and 25 from age- and gender-matched healthy controls [HCs]) and the validation set included 25 samples (12 from pSS and 13 from HCs). Totally 36 pSS patients and 38 HCs were centrally randomized into the discovery set or to the validation set at a 2:1 ratio. Unstimulated whole saliva samples from pSS patients and HCs were analyzed using a data-independent acquisition (DIA) strategy on a 2D LC–HRMS/MS platform to reveal differential proteins. The crucial proteins were verified using DIA analysis and annotated using gene ontology (GO) and International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA) analysis. A prediction model for SS was established using random forests. A total of 1,963 proteins were discovered, and 136 proteins exhibited differential representation in pSS patients. The bioinformatic research indicated that these proteins were primarily linked to immunological functions, metabolism, and inflammation. A panel of 19 protein biomarkers was identified by ranking order based on P -value and random forest algorichm, and was validated as the predictive biomarkers exhibiting good performance with area under the curve (AUC) of 0.817 for discovery set and 0.882 for validation set. The candidate protein panel discovered may aid in pSS diagnosis. Salivary proteomic analysis is a promising non-invasive method for prognostic evaluation and early and precise treatments for pSS patients. Various ground-based observing techniques provide precipitable water vapor (PWV) products with different spatial resolutions. To effectively integrate these products, especially in terms of vertical orientation, spatial interpolation is essential. In this context, we have developed a model to characterize PWV variation with altitude over our study area. Our model, known as RF-PWV (a PWV vertical correction grid model with a 1° × 1° resolution), is constructed using random forest based on the relationship between the differences in different pressure level PWV data from the fifth-generation European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts reanalysis (ERA5) monthly average hourly data and corresponding differences in their height differences over time. When validated against 1 h ERA5 PWV profiles, RF-PWV exhibits a 99.84 % reduction in bias and a 63.41 % decrease in the RMSE compared with the most recent model, C-PWVC1. Furthermore, when validated against radiosonde data, RF-PWV shows a 96.36 % reduction in bias and a 5 % decrease in the RMSE compared with C-PWVC1. Additionally, RF-PWV outperforms C-PWVC1 in terms of resistance to seasonal and height difference interference. The model eliminates the need for meteorological parameters, allowing for high-precision PWV vertical correction by inputting only time and height differences. Consequently, RF-PWV can significantly reduce errors in vertical correction, enhance PWV fusion product accuracy, and provide insights into PWV vertical distribution, thereby contributing to climate research. Objectives: This study aimed to identify predictors for the recurrence of spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) after epidural blood patch (EBP). Background: Epidural blood patch is the main treatment option for SIH; however, the characteristics of patients who experience relapse after successful EBP treatment for SIH remain understudied. Methods: In this exploratory, retrospective, case–control study, we included 19 patients with SIH recurrence after EBP and 36 age‐ and sex‐matched patients without recurrence from a single tertiary medical institution. We analyzed clinical characteristics, neuroimaging findings, and volume changes in intracranial structures after EBP treatment. Machine learning methods were utilized to predict the recurrence of SIH after EBP treatment. Results: There were no significant differences in clinical features between the recurrence and no‐recurrence groups. Among brain magnetic resonance imaging signs, diffuse pachymeningeal enhancement and cerebral venous dilatation were more prominent in the recurrence group than no‐recurrence group after EBP (14/19 [73%] vs. eight of 36 [22%] patients, p = 0.001; 11/19 [57%] vs. seven of 36 [19%] patients, p = 0.010, respectively). The midbrain–pons angle decreased in the recurrence group compared to the no‐recurrence group after EBP, at a mean (standard deviation [SD]) of –12.0 [16.7] vs. +1.8[18.3]° (p = 0.048). In volumetric analysis, volume changes after EBP were smaller in the recurrence group than in the no‐recurrence group in intracranial cerebrospinal fluid (mean [SD] −11.6 [15.3] vs. +4.8 [17.1] mL, p = 0.001) and ventricles (mean [SD] +1.0 [2.0] vs. +2.0 [2.5] mL, p = 0.003). Notably, the random forest classifier indicated that the model constructed with brain volumetry was more accurate in discriminating SIH recurrence (area under the curve = 0.80 vs. 0.52). Conclusion: Our study suggests that volumetric analysis of intracranial structures may aid in predicting recurrence after EBP treatment in patients with SIH. Tropical forests are the world's most structurally complex ecosystems, providing key functions like biomass accumulation, which is linked to this complexity. Tropical forests are also exposed to chronic, non-severe winds, yet their effect on forest structural complexity is understudied. Here we examine drivers of forest structural complexity in Puerto Rico with a particular focus on chronic wind exposure. We used airborne light detection and ranging data collected in 2016 to quantify canopy height and rugosity (variation in height) in ~ 20,000, 0.28 ha forested sites stratified by forest age. We used random forest models to analyze variation in canopy height and rugosity as a function of chronic wind exposure, forest age, mean annual precipitation, elevation, slope (in degrees), soil type, soil available water storage, and exposure to a previous hurricane. Canopy height was driven by precipitation, forest age, and chronic wind exposure, decreasing by 2.12 m (16%) on average in wind-exposed forests across all forest ages. Canopy height increased by 4.0 m (41%) on average in forests aged 25–66 years, and by 4.0 m between sites with 1000 and 2000 mm y−1 precipitation. Canopy rugosity was driven by canopy height, precipitation, forest age, and elevation, increasing log-linearly with canopy height and precipitation, decreasing with elevation, and was highest in younger forests. Chronic wind exposure did not drive variation in canopy rugosity. Our results suggest that chronic wind exposure plays an integral role in limiting canopy height, potentially reducing aboveground carbon accumulation in older tropical forests. This article aims to predict the mid-span displacements of reinforced concrete (RC) columns exposed to blast loading with machine learning models. Machine learning models including the gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) model and the random forest (RF) model are developed. The model hyperparameters in the machine learning models are globally optimized using Bayesian optimization method. The dataset used to train and test the models is constructed by collecting data from shock-tube-simulated experiments. Results show that the performance of the optimized models is significantly improved. By comparing the performance metrics of two models, it is evident that the GBDT model is superior to the RF model in predicting mid-span displacements. The optimized GBDT model is then used to predict the displacements of columns during field tests, and the experimental results and predictive results are relatively consistent, which verifies the effectiveness of GBDT model with Bayesian optimization in damage assessment for RC columns. Objective: Body mass index (BMI) is the primary criterion differentiating anorexia nervosa (AN) and atypical anorexia nervosa despite prior literature indicating few differences between disorders. Machine learning (ML) classification provides us an efficient means of accurately distinguishing between two meaningful classes given any number of features. The aim of the present study was to determine if ML algorithms can accurately distinguish AN and atypical AN given an ensemble of features excluding BMI, and if not, if the inclusion of BMI enables ML to accurately classify between the two. Methods: Using an aggregate sample from seven studies consisting of individuals with AN and atypical AN who completed baseline questionnaires (N = 448), we used logistic regression, decision tree, and random forest ML classification models each trained on two datasets, one containing demographic, eating disorder, and comorbid features without BMI, and one retaining all features and BMI. Results: Model performance for all algorithms trained with BMI as a feature was deemed acceptable (mean accuracy = 74.98%, mean area under the receiving operating characteristics curve [AUC] = 74.75%), whereas model performance diminished without BMI (mean accuracy = 59.37%, mean AUC = 59.98%). Discussion: Model performance was acceptable, but not strong, if BMI was included as a feature; no other features meaningfully improved classification. When BMI was excluded, ML algorithms performed poorly at classifying cases of AN and atypical AN when considering other demographic and clinical characteristics. Results suggest a reconceptualization of atypical AN should be considered. Public Significance: There is a growing debate about the differences between anorexia nervosa and atypical anorexia nervosa as their diagnostic differentiation relies on BMI despite being similar otherwise. We aimed to see if machine learning could distinguish between the two disorders and found accurate classification only if BMI was used as a feature. Precise estimation of Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) is of prime importance to know marine physical and biochemical processes. In this manuscript we have utilized the Random Forest (RF) and Support Vector Regression (SVR) to estimate the SSS concentration. Particularly, we have utilized the global SSS values provided by the Copernicus Marine Services. We have also extracted the Aqua MODIS and Sentinel-3 data from the Google Earth Engine platform. The complete range of SSS varies approximately from 6 psu to 38 psu which enables the global application of the dataset. We have also studied the importance of different wavelength bands and their significance to SSS using the RF model. It is found that wavelengths around 400 nm have their highest significance due to the sensitiveness to Chromophoric Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) and other related constituents. For the regression analysis we have also utilized the Laplacian kernel in the SVR. It is found that the SVR with Laplace kernel outperforms the RF and SVR with Radial Basis Function (RBF) kernel. Imagery acquired by the Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) provides a global archive of dailyNormalized Difference Snow Index (NDSI) at 500 m nominal resolution since the year 2000. While Sentinel-2 (S2) NDSI provides an increased spatial resolution of 20 m since the year 2015, the temporal resolution amounts to only 5 days and thus lacks the high temporal resolution of MODIS. Efforts to combine NDSI datasets for an increased temporal and spatial resolution have so far focused on the deriving binary snow cover maps or combining data from other sensors. In contrast, we produce fine scale (20 m) fractional snow cover (FSC) by downscaling MODIS NDSI to S2 resolution. Random forest regression predicts S2 NDSI based on dynamic features (MODIS NDSI, day-of-year) and static, topographic features for an alpine study site. Subsequently, FSC is derived from S2 NDSI. Cross-validation results in R2 of 0.795 and RMSE of 0.155 for FSC and outperforms common resampling methods. Multi-annual S2 NDSI metrics are able to slightly improve model accuracy. Our results suggest that combining topographical data and low-resolution NDSI allows to produce daily, high-resolution S2 NDSI and FSC and improve fine scale characterization of snow cover dynamics in mountain landscapes. The invasion and expansion of Spartina alterniflora have led to a certain degree of degradation in the ecological environment of coastal wetlands. To discuss the impacts of Spartina alterniflora expansion on the tidal channels, we took the third core area of the Dafeng Elk National Nature Reserve in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province as the study area, retrieved the spatial distribution of Spartina alterniflora by random forest algorithm based on long time series of Landsat and Sentinel-2 images, analysed the expansion models. The tidal channels were obtained by the image segmentation based on MSAVI and visual interpretation and the spatiotemporal evolution traits were finally analysed. The results revealed that the area and perimeter of Spartina alterniflora are continuously increasing, with a wide-ranging invasion. The coverage area peaks at 13.4%, making it the dominant species in the study area. When excluding the influence of human activities, a significant negative correlation emerges between the invasion rate and compactness of Spartina alterniflora and the spatio-temporal evolution of tidal channels. Faster invasion rates and greater compactness correspond to a deceleration in tidal channel morphology development. The article proposes to use machine learning as one of the areas of artificial intelligence to forecast the volume of biogas production from household organic waste. The use of five regression algorithms (Linear Regression, Ridge Regression, Lasso Regression, Random Forest Regression, and Gradient Boosting Regression) to create an effective model for forecasting the volume of biogas production from household organic waste is considered. Based on the comparison of these algorithms by MSE and MAE indicators, the quality of training and their accuracy during forecasting are evaluated. The proposed algorithm for creating a model for forecasting biogas production volumes from household organic waste involves the implementation of 10 main and 3 auxiliary steps. Their advantage is that they aid in the performance of component data analysis, which is carried out based on the method of reducing the dimensionality of the data set, increasing interpretability, and minimizing the risk of data loss. An analysis of 2433 data is was carried out, which characterizes the formation of biogas from food (FW) and yard waste (YW) according to four features. Data preparation is performed using the Jupyter Notebook environment in Python. We select five machine learning algorithms to substantiate an effective model for forecasting volumes of biogas production from household organic waste. On the basis of the conducted research, the main advantages and disadvantages of the used algorithms for building forecasting models of biogas production volumes from household organic waste are determined. It is found that two models, "Random Forest Regressor" and "Gradient Boosting Regressor", show the best accuracy indicators. The other three models (Linear Regression, Ridge Regression, Lasso Regression) are inferior in accuracy and were not considered further. To determine the accuracy of the "Random Forest Regressor" and "Gradient Boosting Regressor" models, we choose the MSE and MAE indicators. The Random Forest Regressor model is found to be a more accurate model compared to the Gradient Boosting Regressor. This is confirmed by the fact that the MSE of the "Random Forest Regressor" model on the training data set is 7.14 times smaller than that of the "Gradient Boosting Regressor" model. At the same time, MAE is 2.67 times smaller in the "Random Forest Regressor" model than in the "Gradient Boosting Regressor" model. The MSE and MAE of both models are worse on the test data set, which indicates overtraining tendencies. The Gradient Boosting Regressor model has worse MSE and MAE than the Random Forest Regressor model on both the training and test data sets. It is established that the model based on the "Random Forest Regressor" algorithm is the most effective for forecasting the volume of biogas production from household organic waste. It provides MAE = 0.088 on test data and the smallest absolute errors in predictions. Further systematic improvement of the "Random Forest Regressor" model for forecasting biogas production volumes from household organic waste based on new data will ensure its accuracy and maintain competitive advantages. The aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect exhibits a significant influence on the development of luminescent materials and has made remarkable progress over the past decades. The advancement of high-performance AIE materials requires fast and accurate predictions of their photophysical properties, which is impeded by the inherent limitations of quantum chemical calculations. In this work, we present an accurate machine learning approach for the fast predictions of quantum yields and wavelengths to screen out AIE molecules. A database of about 563 organic luminescent molecules with quantum yields and wavelengths in the monomeric/aggregated states was established. Individual/combined molecular fingerprints were selected and compared elaborately to attain appropriate molecular descriptors. Different machine learning algorithms combined with favorable molecular fingerprints were further screened to achieve more accurate prediction models. The simulation results indicate that combined molecular fingerprints yield more accurate predictions in the aggregated states, and random forest and gradient boosting regression algorithms show the best predictions in quantum yields and wavelengths, respectively. Given the successful applications of machine learning in quantum yields and wavelengths, it is reasonable to anticipate that machine learning can serve as a complementary strategy to traditional experimental/theoretical methods in the investigation of aggregation-induced luminescent molecules to facilitate the discovery of luminescent materials. This study optimized friction stir welding (FSW) parameters for 1.6 mm thick 2024T3 aluminum alloy sheets. A 3 × 3 factorial design was employed to explore tool rotation speeds (1100 to 1300 rpm) and welding speeds (140 to 180 mm/min). Static tensile tests revealed the joints' maximum strength at 87% relative to the base material. Hyperparameter optimization was conducted for machine learning (ML) models, including random forest and XGBoost, and multilayer perceptron artificial neural network (MLP-ANN) models, using grid search. Welding parameter optimization and extrapolation were then carried out, with final strength predictions analyzed using response surface methodology (RSM). The ML models achieved over 98% accuracy in parameter regression, demonstrating significant effectiveness in FSW process enhancement. Experimentally validated, optimized parameters resulted in an FSW joint efficiency of 93% relative to the base material. Southern China, one of the traditional rice production bases, has experienced significant declines in the area of rice paddy since the beginning of this century. Monitoring the rice cropping area is becoming an urgent need for food security policy decisions. One of the main challenges for mapping rice in this area is the quantity of cloud-free observations that are vulnerable to frequent cloud cover. Another relevant issue that needs to be addressed is determining how to select the appropriate classifier for mapping paddy rice based on the cloud-masked observations. Therefore, this study was organized to quickly find a strategy for rice mapping by evaluating cloud-mask algorithms and machine-learning methods for Sentinel-2 imagery. Specifically, we compared four GEE-embedded cloud-mask algorithms (QA60, S2cloudless, CloudScore, and CDI (Cloud Displacement Index)) and analyzed the appropriateness of widely accepted machine-learning classifiers (random forest, support vector machine, classification and regression tree, gradient tree boost) for cloud-masked imagery. The S2cloudless algorithm had a clear edge over the other three algorithms based on its overall accuracy in evaluation and visual inspection. The findings showed that the algorithm with a combination of S2cloudless and random forest showed the best performance when comparing mapping results with field survey data, referenced rice maps, and statistical yearbooks. In general, the research highlighted the potential of using Sentinel-2 imagery to map paddy rice with multiple combinations of cloud-mask algorithms and machine-learning methods in a cloud-prone area, which has the potential to broaden our rice mapping strategies. Precipitation is the basic component of the Earth's water cycle. Obtaining high-resolution and high-precision precipitation data is of great significance. This paper establishes a precipitation retrieval model based on a random forest classification and regression model during the day and at night with FY-4B/AGRI Level1 data on China from July to August 2022. To evaluate the retrieval effect of the model, the GPM IMERG product is used as a reference, and the retrieval results are compared against those of the FY-4B/AGRI operational precipitation product. In addition, the retrieval results are analyzed according to different underlying surfaces. The results showed that compared with the FY-4B/AGRI operational precipitation product, the retrieval model can better identify precipitation and capture precipitation areas of light rain, moderate rain, heavy rain and torrential rain. Among them, the probability of detection (POD) of the day model increased from 0.328 to 0.680, and the equitable threat score (ETS) increased from 0.252 to 0.432. The POD of the night model increased from 0.337 to 0.639, and the ETS score increased from 0.239 to 0.369. Meanwhile, the precipitation estimation accuracy of the day model increased by 38.98% and that of the night model increased by 40.85%. Our results also showed that due to the surface uniformity of the ocean, the model can identify precipitation better on the ocean than on the land. Our findings also indicated that for the different underlying surfaces of the land, there is no significant difference in each evaluation index of the model. This is a strong argument for the universal applicability of the model. Notably, the results showed that, especially for more vegetated areas and areas covered by water, the model is capable of estimating precipitation. In conclusion, the precipitation retrieval model that is proposed herein can better determine precipitation regions and estimate precipitation intensities compared with the FY-4B/AGRI operational precipitation product. Mapping benthic habitats with bathymetric, acoustic, and spectral data requires georeferenced ground-truth information about habitat types and characteristics. New technologies like autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) collect tens of thousands of images per mission making image-based ground truthing particularly attractive. Two types of machine learning (ML) models, random forest (RF) and deep neural network (DNN), were tested to determine whether ML models could serve as an accurate substitute for manual classification of AUV images for substrate type interpretation. RF models were trained to predict substrate class as a function of texture, edge, and intensity metrics (i.e., features) calculated for each image. Models were tested using a manually classified image dataset with 9-, 6-, and 2-class schemes based on the Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard (CMECS). Results suggest that both RF and DNN models achieve comparable accuracies, with the 9-class models being least accurate (~73–78%) and the 2-class models being the most accurate (~95–96%). However, the DNN models were more efficient to train and apply because they did not require feature estimation before training or classification. Integrating ML models into benthic habitat mapping process can improve our ability to efficiently and accurately ground-truth large areas of benthic habitat using AUV or similar images. The production of "Nocciola Romana" hazelnuts in the province of Viterbo, Italy, has evolved into a highly efficient and profitable agro-industrial system. Our approach is based on a hierarchical framework utilizing aggregated data from multiple temporal data and sources, offering valuable insights into the spatial, temporal, and phenological distributions of hazelnut crops To achieve our goal, we harnessed the power of Google Earth Engine and utilized collections of satellite images from Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-1. By creating a dense stack of multi-temporal images, we precisely mapped hazelnut groves in the area. During the testing phase of our model pipeline, we achieved an F1-score of 99% by employing a Hierarchical Random Forest algorithm and conducting intensive sampling using high-resolution satellite imagery. Additionally, we employed a clustering process to further characterize the identified areas. Through this clustering process, we unveiled distinct regions exhibiting diverse spatial, spectral, and temporal responses. We successfully delineated the actual extent of hazelnut cultivation, totaling 22,780 hectares, in close accordance with national statistics, which reported 23,900 hectares in total and 21,700 hectares in production for the year 2022. In particular, we identified three distinct geographic distribution patterns of hazelnut orchards in the province of Viterbo, confined within the PDO (Protected Designation of Origin)-designated region. The methodology pursued, using three years of aggregate data and one for SAR with a spectral separation clustering hierarchical approach, has effectively allowed the identification of the specific perennial crop, enabling a deeper characterization of various aspects influenced by diverse environmental configurations and agronomic practices.The accurate mapping and characterization of hazelnut crops open opportunities for implementing precision agriculture strategies, thereby promoting sustainability and maximizing yields in this thriving agro-industrial system. The TROPOMI XCH4 data product requires rigorous cloud filtering to achieve a product accuracy of <1%. To this end, operational XCH4 data processing has been based on SUOMI-NPP VIIRS cloud observations. However, SUOMI-NPP is nearing the end of its operational life and has encountered malfunctions in 2022 and 2023. In this study, we introduce a novel machine learning cloud-clearing approach based on a random forest classifier (RFC). The RFC is trained on collocated TROPOMI and SUOMI-NPP VIIRS data to emulate VIIRS-like cloud clearing. After training, cloud masking requires only TROPOMI data, and so becomes operationally independent of SUOMI-NPP. We demonstrate the RFC approach by applying cloud clearing to operational TROPOMI XCH4 data for August 2022, a period in which VIIRS was not operational. For validation, we analyze the TROPOMI XCH4 data at 12 TCCON stations. Comparison of cloud clearing using the RFC and the original VIIRS method reveals excellent agreement with a similar station-to-station bias (−7.4 ppb versus −5.6 ppb), a similar standard deviation of the station-to-station bias (11.6 ppb versus 12 ppb), and the same Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.9. Remarkably, the RFC cloud clearing provides a slightly higher volume of data (2182 versus 2035 daily means) and appears to have fewer outliers. Since 21 November 2023, the RFC approach is part of the operational processing chain of the European Space Agency (ESA). For now, the default practice is to utilize SNPP-VIIRS when accessible. The increasing availability of products generating burned area (BA) maps in recent years necessitates the creation of more accurate reference perimeters to validate these products and provide users with information about their accuracy. For this purpose, reference perimeters were created using Sentinel-2 images in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) for the year 2019. The sampling was adapted to the peculiarities of the Sentinel-2 tiling grid system, and statistically representative sample units were selected for biomes and fire activity through stratified random sampling. Fire perimeters were extracted using a Random Forest supervised classification and results were manually supervised and refined. Efforts were made to maximize the temporal length covered by the reference perimeters for each sample, aiming to minimize temporal errors when using the perimeters for validation. The dataset covers 569,214.2 k m 2 (3.5% burned, 88.7% unburned, and 7.8% unobserved). These perimeters were compared with higher spatial resolution PlanetScope-derived perimeters, resulting in 8.4% commission errors and 3.8% omission errors. As a validation exercise, MCD64A1 and FireCCI51 global burned area products were validated using the Sentinel-2 reference dataset created, confirming that the temporal extent of the reference perimeters significantly affects the validation of such products. The aim of this study is to predict and map winter wheat yield in the Parvomay municipality, situated in the Upper Thracian Lowland of Bulgaria, utilizing satellite data from Sentinel-2. The main crops grown in the research area are winter wheat, rapeseed, sunflower, and maize. To distinguish winter wheat fields accurately, we evaluated classification methods such as Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Random Forest (RF). These methods were applied to satellite multispectral data acquired by the Sentinel-2 satellites during the growing season of 2020–2021. In accordance with their development cycles, temporal image composites were developed to identify suitable moments when each crop is most accurately distinguished from others. Ground truth data obtained from the integrated administration and control system (IACS) were used for training the classifiers and assessing the accuracy of the final maps. Winter wheat fields were masked using the crop mask created from the best-performing classification algorithm. Yields were predicted with regression models calibrated with in situ data collected in the Parvomay study area. Both SVM and RF algorithms performed well in classifying winter wheat fields, with SVM slightly outperforming RF. The produced crop maps enable the application of crop-specific yield models on a regional scale. The best predictor of yield was the green NDVI index (GNDVI) from the April monthly composite image. The complexity of surface characteristics in rural areas poses challenges for accurate extraction of built-up areas from remote sensing images. The Artificial Surface Index (ASI) emerged as a novel and accurate built-up land index. However, the absence of short-wave infrared (SWIR) bands in most high-resolution (HR) images restricts the application of index-based methods in rural built-up land extraction. This paper presents a rapid extraction method for high-resolution built-up land in rural areas based on ASI. Through the downscaling techniques of random forest (RF) regression, high-resolution SWIR bands were generated. They were then combined with visible and near-infrared (VNIR) bands to compute ASI on GaoFen-2 (GF-2) images (called A S I G F ). Furthermore, a red roof index (RRI) was designed to reduce the probability of misclassifying built-up land with bare soil. The results demonstrated that SWIR downscaling effectively compensates for multispectral information absence in HR imagery and expands the applicability of index-based methods to HR remote sensing data. Compared with five other indices (UI, BFLEI, NDBI, BCI, and PISI), the combination of ASI and RRI achieved the optimal performance in built-up land enhancement and bare land suppression, particularly showcasing superior performance in rural built-up land extraction. The identification of wetland vegetation is essential for environmental protection and management as well as for monitoring wetlands' health and assessing ecosystem services. However, some limitations on vegetation classification may be related to remote sensing technology, confusion between plant species, and challenges related to inadequate data accuracy. In this paper, vegetation classification in the Yancheng Coastal Wetlands is studied and evaluated from Sentinel-2 images based on a random forest algorithm. Based on consistent time series from remote sensing observations, the characteristic patterns of the Yancheng Coastal Wetlands were better captured. Firstly, the spectral features, vegetation indices, and phenological characteristics were extracted from remote sensing images, and classification products were obtained by constructing a dense time series using a dataset based on Sentinel-2 images in Google Earth Engine (GEE). Then, remote sensing classification products based on the random forest machine learning algorithm were obtained, with an overall accuracy of 95.64% and kappa coefficient of 0.94. Four indicators (POP, SOS, NDVIre, and B12) were the main contributors to the importance of the weight analysis for all features. Formulating ecological restoration strategies requires accurately quantifying how climate and anthropogenic factors influence net primary production (NPP). A Carnegie-Ames-Stanford approach (CASA) model was applied to estimate China's terrestrial NPP from 2001 to 2020. We adopted a random forest (RF) method to identify the main driving forces for NPP change in China. Total NPP in China increased noticeably with a 24.91 Tg C/yr rate, as shown in our results. The significantly increased NPP was mainly attributed to human activities (64.29 ± 0.17%), chiefly due to human management and ecological projects (afforestation or other) fostered vegetation growth. The primary drivers of NPP variation varied in different geographic regions. Climate dominated the NPP dynamic in north China (52.38 ± 0.91%), where the main factor that restricted the increase of NPP was precipitation. Human activities strongly impacted the NPP variation in the remaining regions. Human management measures increased NPP in northwest and southwest China. In the northeast, east, and south-central China, the NPP change resulted from land use change, primarily grassland, cropland, and forest change. Collectively, our study expands the understanding of the driving forces of NPP change, informing different strategies for achieving ecological restoration and carbon neutrality. Dynamic wireless charging (DWC) has emerged as a viable approach to mitigate range anxiety by ensuring continuous and uninterrupted charging for electric vehicles in motion. DWC systems rely on the length of the transmitter, which can be categorized into long-track transmitters and segmented coil arrays. The segmented coil array, favored for its heightened efficiency and reduced electromagnetic interference, stands out as the preferred option. This paper focuses on the emissions of the three most sold categories of light vehicles: sedans, SUVs, and pickups. The research is carried out through an innovative methodology based on GPS and machine learning in real driving conditions. For this purpose, driving data from the three best-selling vehicles in Ecuador are acquired using a data logger with GPS included, and emissions are measured using a PEMS in six RDE tests with two standardized routes for each vehicle. The data obtained on Route 1 are used to estimate the gears used during driving using the K-means algorithm and classification trees. Then, the relative importance of driving variables is estimated using random forest techniques, followed by the training of ANNs to estimate CO2, CO, NOX, and HC. The data generated on Route 2 are used to validate the obtained ANNs. These models are fed with a dataset generated from 324, 300, and 316 km of random driving for each type of vehicle. The results of the model were compared with the IVE model and an OBD-based model, showing similar results without the need to mount the PEMS on the vehicles for long test drives. The generated model is robust to different traffic conditions as a result of its training and validation using a large amount of data obtained under completely random driving conditions. In recent years, soft robotic sensors have rapidly advanced to endow robots with the ability to interact with the external environment. Here, we propose a polymer optical fiber (POF) sensor with sensitive and stable detection performance for strain, bending, twisting, and pressing. Thus, we can map the real-time output light intensity of POF sensors to the spatial morphology of the elastomer. By leveraging the intrinsic correlations of neighboring sensors and machine learning algorithms, we realize the spatially resolved detection of the pressing and multi-dimensional deformation of elastomers. Specifically, the developed intelligent sensing system can effectively recognize the two-dimensional indentation position with a prediction accuracy as large as ~99.17%. The average prediction accuracy of combined strain and twist is ~98.4% using the random forest algorithm. In addition, we demonstrate an integrated intelligent glove for the recognition of hand gestures with a high recognition accuracy of 99.38%. Our work holds promise for applications in soft robots for interactive tasks in complex environments, providing robots with multidimensional proprioceptive perception. Wearable sensors could be beneficial for the continuous quantification of upper limb motor symptoms in people with Parkinson's disease (PD). This work evaluates the use of two inertial measurement units combined with supervised machine learning models to classify and predict a subset of MDS-UPDRS III subitems in PD. We attached the two compact wearable sensors on the dorsal part of each hand of 33 people with PD and 12 controls. Each participant performed six clinical movement tasks in parallel with an assessment of the MDS-UPDRS III. Random forest (RF) models were trained on the sensor data and motor scores. An overall accuracy of 94% was achieved in classifying the movement tasks. When employed for classifying the motor scores, the averaged area under the receiver operating characteristic values ranged from 68% to 92%. Motor scores were additionally predicted using an RF regression model. In a comparative analysis, trained support vector machine models outperformed the RF models for specific tasks. Furthermore, our results surpass the literature in certain cases. The methods developed in this work serve as a base for future studies, where home-based assessments of pharmacological effects on motor function could complement regular clinical assessments. The availability of a sufficient number of annotated samples is one of the main challenges of the supervised methods used to classify crop types from remote sensing images. Creating these samples is time-consuming and costly. Active Learning (AL) offers a solution by streamlining sample annotation, resulting in more efficient training with less effort. Unfortunately, most of the developed AL methods overlook spatial information inherent in remote sensing images. We propose a novel spatially explicit AL that uses the semi-variogram to identify and discard redundant, spatially adjacent samples. It was evaluated using Random Forest (RF) and Sentinel-2 Satellite Image Time Series in two study areas from the Netherlands and Belgium. In the Netherlands, the spatially explicit AL selected 97 samples achieving an overall accuracy of 80%, compared to traditional AL selecting 169 samples with 82% overall accuracy. In Belgium, spatially explicit AL selected 223 samples and obtained 60% overall accuracy, while traditional AL selected 327 samples and obtained an overall accuracy of 63%. We concluded that the developed AL method helped RF achieve a good performance mostly for the classes consisting of individual crops with a relatively distinctive growth pattern such as sugar beets or cereals. Applications for machine learning (ML), deep learning, and other artificial intelligence models have shown great promise in nuclear physics, including not only in classification systems but also in the analysis of numerical data. This study used various ML algorithms to estimate the concentrations of six rare earth elements (Sm, La, Ce, Sc, Eu, and Tb) in both archaeological and marine sediment samples. An interesting aspect of this analysis is that 80% of the 235 data points were used for training data, which included two parameters: specific activity ( A sp ) and concentration (ρ ) by the k0-method for the purpose of model development. The remaining 20% of the dataset was held out for testing the model's accuracy. The fundamental principle of this approach is the use of regression analysis between A sp and ρ to construct a machine learning regression model. This machine learning model was subsequently applied to estimate element concentrations based on A sp values obtained from gamma spectra. The mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE) and the statistical measure R-squared (R2) were employed for evaluating the accuracy of the predicted models. The random forest (RF) algorithm produces smaller MAE and RMSE values and achieves better R2 values compared to other algorithms. In addition, RF shows the lowest relative bias of the concentration values of elements in reference material (NIST 2711a) compared to other prediction models. The work focuses on demonstrating that machine learning models can effectively predict the concentrations of rare earth elements, even though this is a fundamental issue in NAA and one previous study has addressed this issue for one single element. Self-oscillatory systems have great utility in energy harvesting, engines, and actuators due to their ability to convert ambient energy directly into mechanical work. This characteristic makes their design and implementation highly valuable. Due to the complexity of the motion process and the simultaneous influence of multiple parameters, computing self-oscillatory systems proves to be challenging, especially when conducting inverse parameter design. To simplify the computational process, a combined approach o0f Random Forest (RF) and Backpropagation Neural Network (BPNN) algorithms is employed. The example used is a self-rotating skipping rope made of liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) fiber and a mass block under illumination. Numerically solving the governing equations yields precise solutions for the rotation frequency of the LCE skipping rope under various system parameters. A database containing 138,240 sets of parameter conditions and their corresponding rotation frequencies is constructed to train the RF and BPNN models. The training outcomes indicate that RF and BPNN can accurately predict the self-rotating skipping rope frequency under various parameters, demonstrating high stability and computational efficiency. This approach allows us to discover the influences of distinct parameters on the rotation frequency as well. Moreover, it is capable of inverse design, meaning it can derive the corresponding desired parameter combination from a given rotation frequency. Through this study, a deeper understanding of the dynamic behavior of self-oscillatory systems is achieved, offering a new approach and theoretical foundation for their implementation and construction. Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) is used in a variety of industries and is highly persistent in the environment, with potential human health risks. Photocatalysis has been extensively used for the decomposition of various organic pollutants, yet its simulation and modeling are challenging. This research aimed to establish different machine learning (ML) algorithms which can simulate and predict the photocatalytic degradation of PFOA. The published results were used to estimate and predict the photocatalytic degradation of PFOA. Statistical criteria including the coefficient of determination (R2), mean absolute error (MAE), and mean squared error (MSE) were considered in assessing the best method of modeling. Among the seven ML algorithms pre-screened, Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost), Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM), and Random Forest (RF) showed the best performance and were chosen for deep modeling and analysis. Grid search was used to optimize the models developed by AdaBoost, GBM, and RF; and permutation variable importance (PVI) was used to analyze the relative importance of different variables. Based on the modeling results, GBM model (R2 = 0.878, MSE = 106.660, MAE = 6.009) and RF model (R2 = 0.867, MSE = 107.500, MAE = 6.796) showed superior performances compared with AdaBoost model (R2 = 0.574, MSE = 388.369, MAE = 16.480). Furthermore, the PVI results suggested that the GBM model provided the best outcome, with the light irradiation time, type of catalyst, dosage of catalyst, solution pH, irradiation intensity, initial PFOA concentration, oxidizing agents (peroxymonosulfate, ammonium persulfate, and sodium persulfate), irradiation wavelength, and solution temperature as the most important process variables in decreasing order. Purpose: Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is the main method to detect human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) expression levels. However, IHC is invasive and cannot reflect HER2 expression status in real time. The aim of this study was to construct and verify three types of radiomics models based on 18F-fuorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging and to evaluate the predictive ability of these radiomics models for the expression status of HER2 in patients with gastric cancer (GC). Patients and Methods: A total of 118 patients with GC were enrolled in this study. 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging was performed prior to surgery. The LIFEx software package was applied to extract PET and CT radiomics features. The minimum absolute contraction and selection operator (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator [LASSO]) algorithm was used to select the best radiomics features. Three machine learning methods, logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and random forest (RF) models, were constructed and verified. The Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) was applied to address data imbalance. Results: In the training and test sets, the area under the curve (AUC) values of the LR, SVM, and RF models were 0.809, 0.761, 0.861 and 0.628, 0.993, 0.717, respectively, and the Brier scores were 0.118, 0.214, and 0.143, respectively. Among the three models, the LR and RF models exhibited extremely good prediction performance. The AUC values of the three models significantly improved after SMOTE balanced the data. Conclusions:18F-FDG PET/CT-based radiomics models, especially LR and RF models, demonstrate good performance in predicting HER2 expression status in patients with GC and can be used to preselect patients who may benefit from HER2-targeted therapy. Urban trees are not only a core component of natural infrastructure but also an effective way to mitigate urban heat with nature-based solutions. Comprehensively revealing the cooling effects of trees and their drivers is valuable for enhancing urban climate resilience and promoting sustainable development. While existing studies have investigated the cooling effects of two-dimensional characteristics of trees, there has been limited consideration of the effects of vertical structure, especially in various climatic zones across the globe. In this study, we employed the Google Earth Engine cloud platform and the random forest algorithm to comprehensively assess the impact of three-dimensional (3D) characteristics of trees on land surface temperature across 596 cities worldwide. Results suggest that LST is generally lower in tree-covered areas than their surrounding built-up land, especially in the summer, with an average decrease of about 2.13 °C. We also found a significant negative correlation between tree canopy height and LST (∼−0.83). Specifically, the mean LST decreases by about 0.16 ℃ for every 1m increase in tree height. Globally, the average cooling intensity of trees is 1.86 °C, and is about 1.06 °C higher in summer than in winter. It is worth noting that during winter, the cooling effect of trees is more pronounced closer to the equator. In addition, the 3D characteristics of trees contribute more significantly to cooling intensity compared to their surrounding environmental factors. This study not only fills a global knowledge gap regarding the impact of 3D features of trees on LST, but also provides valuable insights into urban planning and management in response to climate change. Identifying dangerous driving behaviors on urban roads is crucial for enhancing traffic safety, streamlining traffic management, and bolstering intelligent transportation systems. To address the limitations of traditional methods, such as high relative error rates, low identification rates, and prolonged processing times, a novel method based on the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) has been developed. This approach involves collecting urban road driving behavior data using smartphones, clustering the data via spectral clustering, and refining the clustering results with Box-Cox transformation. Subsequently, driving behavior features are extracted using HMM, selected through the application of random forests, and combined with a twin support vector machine to achieve accurate identification of dangerous driving behaviors. Experimental outcomes indicate that the proposed method yields a maximum relative error rate of 4.12% for feature extraction, attains a peak identification rate of 98.75%, and operates within an identification time frame of 0.16 to 0.38 seconds. Private groundwater wells can be unmonitored sources of contaminated water that can harm human health. Developing models that predict exposure could allow residents to take action to reduce risk. Machine learning models have been successful in predicting nitrate contamination using geospatial information such as proximity to nitrate sources, but previous models have not considered meteorological factors that change temporally. In this study, we test random forest (regression and classification) and linear regression models to predict nitrate contamination using rainfall, temperature, and readily available soil parameters. We trained and tested models for (1) all of North Carolina, (2) each geographic region in North Carolina, (3) a three‐county region with a high density of animal agriculture, and (4) a three‐county region with a low density of animal agriculture. All regression models had poor predictive performance (R2 < 0.09). The random forest classification model for the coastal plain showed fair agreement (Cohen's κ = 0.23) when trying to predict whether contamination occurred. All other classification models had slight or poor predictive performance. Our results show that temporal changes in rainfall and temperature, or in combination with soil data, are not enough to predict nitrate contamination in most areas of North Carolina. Heart disease is a complex disease, and many people around the world suffer from this disease. Due to the lack of a healthy lifestyle, it is the most common cause of death worldwide. Machine learning plays an important role in medical treatment. The goal of this research is to develop a machine learning model to help diagnose heart disease quickly and accurately. In this article, an effective and improved machine learning method is proposed to diagnose heart disease. We designed a novel and robust ensemble model that combines the top three classifiers, namely Random Forest, XGBoost and Gradient Boosting Machine, to effectively diagnose heart disease. We used an ensemble voting method to combine the results of the top three classifiers to improve the prediction of heart disease. We used a combined heart disease dataset containing five different datasets (Hungary, Statlog, Switzerland, VA Long Beach and Cleveland). Feature selection algorithms (Pearson Correlation, Univariate Feature Selection, Recursive Feature Elimination, Boruta Feature Selection, Random forest, and LightGBM) are used to select highly relevant features based on rankings to improve classification accuracy. The proposed ensemble model is designed using seven highly relevant features, and a comparison of machine learning algorithms and ensemble learning techniques is applied to the selected features. Different performance evaluation methods are used to evaluate the proposed model: accuracy, sensitivity, precision, F1-score, MCC, NPV and AUC. Results analysis shows that the ensemble model achieves excellent classification accuracy, sensitivity, and precision of 96.17%, 98.37%, and 94.53%. Our proposed model performs better than existing models and individual classifiers. The results show that the proposed ensemble method can effectively predict the risk of heart disease. Who interacts with whom is a key question in community and network ecology. The concept that these interactions may be driven by a match between the traits of consumer and resource species is known as trait‐matching. If trait‐matching would allow for general predictions of interaction structure based on sufficiently few and easily‐measurable traits, then this approach could replace the laborious description of each individual pairwise interaction. To resolve imprints of trait‐matching in a species‐rich tri‐trophic Salix–galler–parasitoid network, and to identify the most relevant traits, we applied five different methods, each approaching the same phenomenon from a different perspective. As traits, we used, body sizes, gall type (position on plant, structure of gall) and phenology, among others, as well as phylogenetic proxies. When jointly applied, the methods demonstrate distinctly different imprints of traits within the two bipartite network elements (Salix–galler versus galler–parasitoid interactions). Of the galler–parasitoid sub‐network's interactions, approximately half were explainable by the species traits used; of the Salix–galler sub‐network's interactions, traits explained at most two‐fifths. Gall type appeared to be the most important structuring trait in both networks. Phylogeny explained as much, or more than did our tested traits, suggesting that traits may be conserved and phylogeny therefore an effective proxy. Overall, the more specialized structure of the Salix–galler network versus the more nested structure of the galler–parasitoid network meant that different methods were more effective at capturing interactions and interaction structure in the different sub‐networks. Thus, our analysis reveals how structuring impacts may vary even between levels within the same multitrophic network, and calls for comparative analyses of trait matching across a wide set of systems and methods. Nowadays, kidney stone disease is one of the most common health issue which needs more attention for early diagnosis. Several imaging modalities are used for the detection of kidney stone. The gold standard CT scans are valuable for kidney stone detection. For kidney stone detection, machine and deep learning-based algorithms are widely used. In order to enhance the performance of earlier techniques, two techniques are developed. Initially, an AlexNet-based model is developed in this work. By using the enhanced recognition capability of Random Forest (RF), we developed a hybrid AlexNet-RF model. Both the models are tested against Kidney Stone Detection dataset. The performance of the proposed model proved that in terms of accuracy and loss the hybrid AlexNet-RF model secured reliable higher detection rate of approximately 97.1% to 97.5%. Background: Shortages of mechanical ventilation have become a constant problem in Emergency Departments (EDs), thereby affecting the timely deployment of medical interventions that counteract the severe health complications experienced during respiratory disease seasons. It is then necessary to count on agile and robust methodological approaches predicting the expected demand loads to EDs while supporting the timely allocation of ventilators. In this paper, we propose an integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Discrete-event Simulation (DES) to design effective interventions ensuring the high availability of ventilators for patients needing these devices. Methods: First, we applied Random Forest (RF) to estimate the mechanical ventilation probability of respiratory-affected patients entering the emergency wards. Second, we introduced the RF predictions into a DES model to diagnose the response of EDs in terms of mechanical ventilator availability. Lately, we pretested two different interventions suggested by decision-makers to address the scarcity of this resource. A case study in a European hospital group was used to validate the proposed methodology. Results: The number of patients in the training cohort was 734, while the test group comprised 315. The sensitivity of the AI model was 93.08% (95% confidence interval, [88.46 − 96.26%]), whilst the specificity was 85.45% [77.45 − 91.45%]. On the other hand, the positive and negative predictive values were 91.62% (86.75 − 95.13%) and 87.85% (80.12 − 93.36%). Also, the Receiver Operator Characteristic (ROC) curve plot was 95.00% (89.25 − 100%). Finally, the median waiting time for mechanical ventilation was decreased by 17.48% after implementing a new resource capacity strategy. Conclusions: Combining AI and DES helps healthcare decision-makers to elucidate interventions shortening the waiting times for mechanical ventilators in EDs during respiratory disease epidemics and pandemics.
