In this paper, we introduce a new regularity condition that characterizes the tameness of a composite singularity $H=G\circ F$ in a sharp way. Our approach provides a natural tool that links the topology of the Milnor tube fibrations through the Milnor fibers of the respective components of the map germs $F$, $G$ and $H = G\circ F$. We also study the invariance of tameness by $\mathcal{L}$-equivalence, $\mathcal{R}$-equivalence, and hence by $\mathcal{A}$-equivalence, and we give conditions for when two component map germs of the composite singularity $H=G\circ F$ being tame implies the third one is tame. As an application, we show how to relate the Euler characteristics of the Milnor fibers of $F,G$ and $H$ to each other.

The search for ferromagnetism in the Hubbard model has been a problem of outstanding interest since Nagaoka's original proposal in 1966. Recent advances in quantum simulation have today enabled the study of tunable doped Hubbard models in ultracold atomic systems. Here, we examine a realistic variant of such a model wherein any second electron on a single lattice site is weakly bound compared to the first one. Employing large-scale density-matrix renormalization group calculations, we establish the existence of high-spin ground states on square and triangular lattices, analyze the microscopic mechanisms behind their origin, and investigate the interplay between ferromagnetism and other competing orders, such as stripes. Our results also explain$\unicode{x2014}$and shed new light on$\unicode{x2014}$the intriguing observations of ferromagnetic correlations in recent optical-lattice experiments., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

Computer Science - Robotics - Abstract
My research objective is to explicitly bridge the gap between high computational performance and low power dissipation of robot on-board hardware by designing a bio-inspired tapered whisker neuromorphic computing (also called reservoir computing) system for offroad robot environment perception and navigation, that centres the interaction between a robot's body and its environment. Mobile robots performing tasks in unknown environments need to traverse a variety of complex terrains, and they must be able to reliably and quickly identify and characterize these terrains to avoid getting into potentially challenging or catastrophic circumstances. To solve this problem, I drew inspiration from animals like rats and seals, just relying on whiskers to perceive surroundings information and survive in dark and narrow environments. Additionally, I looked to the human cochlear which can separate different frequencies of sound. Based on these insights, my work addresses this need by exploring the physical whisker-based reservoir computing for quick and cost-efficient mobile robots environment perception and navigation step by step. This research could help us understand how the compliance of the biological counterparts helps robots to dynamically interact with the environment and provides a new solution compared with current methods for robot environment perception and navigation with limited computational resources, such as Mars.

Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena ,Astrophysics - Solar and Stellar Astrophysics - Abstract
In binary black-hole mergers from isolated binary-star evolution, both black holes are from progenitor stars that have lost their hydrogen-rich envelopes by binary mass transfer. Envelope stripping is known to affect the pre-supernova core structures of such binary-stripped stars and thereby their final fates and compact remnant masses. In this paper, we show that binary-stripped stars give rise to a bimodal black-hole mass spectrum with characteristic black-hole masses of about $9\,\mathrm{M}_\odot$ and $16\,\mathrm{M}_\odot$ across a large range of metallicities. The bimodality is linked to carbon and neon burning becoming neutrino-dominated, which results in interior structures that are difficult to explode and likely lead to black hole formation. The characteristic black-hole masses from binary-stripped stars have corresponding features in the chirp-mass distribution of binary black-hole mergers: peaks at about $8$ and $14\,\mathrm{M}_\odot$, and a dearth in between these masses. Current gravitational-wave observations of binary black-hole mergers show evidence for a gap at $10\text{--}12\,\mathrm{M}_\odot$ and peaks at $8$ and $14\,\mathrm{M}_\odot$ in the chirp-mass distribution. These features are in agreement with our models of binary-stripped stars. In the future, they may be used to constrain the physics of late stellar evolution and supernova explosions, and may even help measure the cosmological expansion of the Universe., Comment: 20 pages (including appendix with tabulated data; main text: 8 pages), 6 figures; accepted for publication in ApJ Letters

This paper brings an in detail Genetic Algorithm (GA) based combinatorial optimization method used for the optimal design of the water distribution network (WDN) of Gurudeniya Service Zone, Sri Lanka. Genetic Algorithm (GA) mimics the survival of the fittest principle of nature to develop a search process. Methodology employs fuzzy combinations of pipe diameters to check their suitability to be considered as the cost effective optimal design solutions. Furthermore, the hydraulic constraints were implicitly evaluated within the GA itself in its aim to reaching the global optimum solution. Upon analysis, the results of this approach delivered agreeable design outputs. In addition, the comparison made between the results obtained by a previous study inspired by the Honey Bee Mating Optimization (HBMO) Algorithm and results obtained by the GA based approach, proves competency of GA for the optimal design of water distribution network in Gurudeniya Service Zone, Sri Lanka., Comment: Submitted to the journal ENGINEER - IESL Sri Lanka. Gravitational lensing by massive objects along the line of sight to the source causes distortions of gravitational wave-signals; such distortions may reveal information about fundamental physics, cosmology and astrophysics. In this work, we have extended the search for lensing signatures to all binary black hole events from the third observing run of the LIGO--Virgo network. We search for repeated signals from strong lensing by 1) performing targeted searches for subthreshold signals, 2) calculating the degree of overlap amongst the intrinsic parameters and sky location of pairs of signals, 3) comparing the similarities of the spectrograms amongst pairs of signals, and 4) performing dual-signal Bayesian analysis that takes into account selection effects and astrophysical knowledge. We also search for distortions to the gravitational waveform caused by 1) frequency-independent phase shifts in strongly lensed images, and 2) frequency-dependent modulation of the amplitude and phase due to point masses. None of these searches yields significant evidence for lensing. Finally, we use the non-detection of gravitational-wave lensing to constrain the lensing rate based on the latest merger-rate estimates and the fraction of dark matter composed of compact objects., Comment: 28 pages, 11 figures

The classical Richtmyer-Meshkov instability is a hydrodynamic instability characterizing the evolution of an interface following shock loading. In contrast to other hydrodynamic instabilities such as Rayleigh-Taylor, it is known for being unconditionally unstable: regardless of the direction of shock passage, any deviations from a flat interface will be amplified. In this article, we show that for negative Atwood numbers, there exist special sequences of shocks which result in a nearly perfectly suppressed instability growth. We demonstrate this principle computationally and experimentally with stepped fliers and phase transition materials. A fascinating immediate corollary is that in specific instances a phase transitioning material may self-suppress RMI.

We are witnessing the dawn of gravitational wave (GW) astronomy. With currently available detectors, observations are restricted to GW frequencies in the range between ${\sim} 10\,\mathrm{Hz}$ and $10\,\mathrm{kHz}$, which covers the signals from mergers of compact objects. The launch of the space observatory LISA will open up a new frequency band for the detection of stellar interactions at lower frequencies. In this work, we predict the shape and strength of the GW signals associated with common-envelope interaction and merger events in binary stars, and we discuss their detectability. Previous studies estimated these characteristics based on semi-analytical models. In contrast, we used detailed three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations to compute the GW signals. We show that for the studied models, the dynamical phase of common-envelope events and mergers between main-sequence stars lies outside of the detectability band of the LISA mission. We find, however, that the final stages of common-envelope interactions leading to mergers of the stellar cores fall into the frequency band in which the sensitivity of LISA peaks, making them promising candidates for detection. These detections can constrain the enigmatic common-envelope dynamics. Furthermore, future decihertz observatories such as DECIGO or BBO would also be able to observe this final stage and the post-merger signal, through which we might be able to detect the formation of Thorne-\.Zytkow objects., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A, 12 pages, 8 figures

225. Carbon elastic and inelastic stopping-power components for heavy ions at Bohr and higher velocities

Physics - Atomic Physics - Abstract
Carbon stopping-power (SP) data for heavy ions (HIs), obtained around Bohr velocities, revealed remarkably lower values than those predicted by the SRIM/TRIM calculations/simulations. An attempt was made to extract the elastic (collisional) and inelastic (electronic) components from available SP data. A problem is that essentially total SP is measured in experiments, whereas electronic SP values, presented as the results, are obtained by the subtraction of the calculated collisional component values from the measured ones. At high HI reduced velocities (V/v0)/Z_HI^2/3 > 0.3 (V and v0 are HI and Bohr velocities, respectively, and Z_HI is the HI atomic number), the collisional component can be neglected, whereas at Bohr velocities it becomes comparable to the electronic one. These circumstances were used to compare the experimental data with SRIM/TRIM calculations/simulations and to extract empirically the collisional SP component., Comment: 17 pages, 35 figures, 3 tables

Condensed Matter - Strongly Correlated Electrons - Abstract
PbCuTe$_2$O$_6$ is considered as one of the rare candidate materials for a three-dimensional quantum spin liquid (QSL). This assessment was based on the results of various magnetic experiments, performed mainly on polycrystalline material. More recent measurements on single crystals revealed an even more exotic behavior, yielding ferroelectric order below $T_{\text{FE}}\approx 1\,\text{K}$, accompanied by distinct lattice distortions, and a somewhat modified magnetic response which is still consistent with a QSL. Here we report on low-temperature measurements of various thermodynamic, magnetic and dielectric properties of single crystalline PbCuTe$_2$O$_6$ in magnetic fields $B\leq 14.5\,\text{T}$. The combination of these various probes allows us to construct a detailed $B$-$T$ phase diagram including a ferroelectric phase for $B \leq$ $8\,\text{T}$ and a $B$-induced magnetic phase at $B \geq$ $11\,\text{T}$. These phases are preceded by or coincide with a structural transition from a cubic high-temperature phase into a distorted non-cubic low-temperature state. The phase diagram discloses two quantum critical points (QCPs) in the accessible field range, a ferroelectric QCP at $B_{c1}$ = $7.9\,\text{T}$ and a magnetic QCP at $B_{c2}$ = $11\,\text{T}$. Field-induced lattice distortions, observed in the state at $T>$ $1\,\text{K}$ and which are assigned to the effect of spin-orbit interaction of the Cu$^{2+}$-ions, are considered as the key mechanism by which the magnetic field couples to the dielectric degrees of freedom in this material.

Quantum Physics ,Physics - History and Philosophy of Physics - Abstract
In his book `Mathematical Foundations of Quantum Mechanics', von Neumann asserted the following: the Compton-Simon experiment showed that the state vector must collapse upon measurement of any self-adjoint operator. Comparing von Neumann's account with the Compton-Simon paper, we find that von Neumann had misinterpreted the experiment as consisting of two successive measurements (which gave identical results), whereas the experiment only measured two angles on the same photographic plate. Note, however, that the state vector must collapse upon measurement of an additively-conserved quantity; otherwise the conservation law could be violated. Next, it turns out that the mathematical problem of explaining collapse is not fully defined until one specifies the nature of the apparatus. If the apparatus does not have a `classical description', the problem is insoluble, even if the measurement is only approximate (Fine, Simony, Brown, Simony and Busch); but if it does, the problem is soluble within Schroedinger dynamics (with a time-dependent hamiltonian) for additively-conserved observables. The solution, a modification of Sewell's, shows that the state vector has collapsed, but it does not reveal the eigenvalue of the collapsed state. The collapse is irreversible, and results from the interplay of additive conservation laws with the quantum measurement postulate. Indeed, the quantum measurement problem - as expounded by Wigner - may be better understood as the problem of establishing that the two are compatible with each other; it has little relevance to actual measurements., Comment: 40 pages, 1 figure

General Relativity and Quantum Cosmology - Abstract
The global network of gravitational-wave observatories now includes five detectors, namely LIGO Hanford, LIGO Livingston, Virgo, KAGRA, and GEO 600. These detectors collected data during their third observing run, O3, composed of three phases: O3a starting in April of 2019 and lasting six months, O3b starting in November of 2019 and lasting five months, and O3GK starting in April of 2020 and lasting 2 weeks. In this paper we describe these data and various other science products that can be freely accessed through the Gravitational Wave Open Science Center at https://gwosc.org. The main dataset, consisting of the gravitational-wave strain time series that contains the astrophysical signals, is released together with supporting data useful for their analysis and documentation, tutorials, as well as analysis software packages., Comment: 27 pages, 3 figures

Condensed Matter - Quantum Gases - Abstract
We present a theoretical study of a mixture of antidipolar and nondipolar Bose-Einstein condensates confined to an infinite tube. We predict the presence of a spin roton and its associated instability, which triggers a continuous unmodulated--to--supersolid phase transition. We characterize the phase diagram of the binary system, ranging from the quasi-1D to the radial Thomas-Fermi (elongated 3D) regimes. We also present the dynamic formation of supersolids following a quench from the uniform miscible phase, which maintains phase coherence across the system., Comment: 13 pages main text, 5 figures, submission to SciPost Physics Core

By considering the example of $SU(2)$ gluodynamics, we check numerically the idea that the strong correlation of the Polyakov loop with the longitudinal gluon propagator and related quantities can be used to substantially reduce the finite-volume effects as well as to extrapolate in temperature over the critical domain., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena - Abstract
The radio polarization properties of the pulsar population are only superficially captured by the conventional picture of pulsar radio emission. We study the broadband polarization of 271 young radio pulsars, focusing particularly on circular polarization, using high quality observations made with the Ultra-Wideband Low receiver on Murriyang, the Parkes radio telescope. We seek to encapsulate polarization behaviour on a population scale by defining broad categories for frequency- and phase-dependent polarization evolution, studying the co-occurrences of these categorizations and comparing them with average polarization measurements and spin-down energy ($\dot{E}$). This work shows that deviations of the linear polarization position angle (PA) from the rotating vector model (RVM) are linked to the presence of circular polarization features and to frequency evolution of the polarization. Polarization fraction, circular polarization contribution and profile complexity all evolve with $\dot{E}$ across the population, with the profiles of high-$\dot{E}$ pulsars being simple and highly linearly polarized. The relationship between polarization fraction and circular contribution is also seen to evolve such that highly polarized profiles show less variation in circular contribution with frequency than less strongly polarized profiles. This evolution is seen both across the population and across frequency for individual sources. Understanding pulsar radio polarization requires detailed study of individual sources and collective understanding of population-level trends. For the former, we provide visualizations of their phase- and frequency-resolved polarization parameters. For the latter, we have highlighted the importance of including the impact of circular polarization and of $\dot{E}$., Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures, supplementary material available at the MNRAS website or by contacting the lead author

PSRJ1910-5959A (J1910A) is a binary millisecond pulsar in a 0.837 day circular orbit around a helium white dwarf (HeWD) companion. This pulsar is located 6.3 arcmin away from the centre of the globular cluster NGC6752. Given the large offset, the association of the pulsar to NGC6752 has been debated. We have made use of two decades of archival Parkes 64-m "Murriyang" telescope data and recently carried out observations with the MeerKAT telescope. We obtained Pulse times of arrival using standard data reduction techniques and analysed using Bayesian pulsar timing techniques. We analysed the pulsar's total intensity and polarisation profile, to study the interstellar scattering along the line of sight, and the pulsar's geometry by applying the rotating vector model. We obtain precise measurements of several post-Keplerian parameters: the range $r=0.202(6)T_\odot$ and shape s=0.999823(4) of the Shapiro delay, from which we infer the orbital inclination to be $88.9^{+0.15}_{-0.14}\deg$ and the masses of both the pulsar and the companion to be $1.55(7)M_{\odot}$ and $0.202(6)M_{\odot}$ respectively; a secular change in the orbital period $\dot{P}_{\rm b}=-53^{+7.4}_{-6.0}\times 10^{-15}$\,s\,s$^{-1}$ that proves the association to NGGC6752 and a secular change in the projected semi-major axis of the pulsar $\dot{x}= -40.7^{+7.3}_{-8.2}\times10^{-16}$\,s\,s$^{-1}$ that is likely caused by the spin-orbit interaction from a misaligned HeWD spin, at odds with the likely isolated binary evolution of the system. We also discuss some theoretical models for the structure and evolution of WDs in NS-WD binaries by using J1910A's companion as a test bed. J1910A is a rare system for which several parameters of both the pulsar and the HeWD companion can be accurately measured. As such, it is a test bed to discriminate between alternative models for HeWD structure and cooling., Comment: 18 pages, 12 figures. With over 5,000 exoplanets currently detected, there is a need for a primary classification method to prioritise candidates for biosignature observations. Here, we develop a classification method to categorise rocky exoplanets based on their closest solar system analogue using available data of observed stellar and planetary features, masses, and radii, to model non-thermal atmospheric escape, thermal atmospheric escape, and stellar irradiation boundaries. Applying this classification method to the 720 rocky exoplanets in our sample with uncertainties in planetary masses, radii, stellar temperatures, and fluxes propagated via a Monte Carlo model indicates that 22% $\pm$ 8% are Mercury analogues, 39% $\pm$ 4% are Mars analogues, 11% $\pm$ 1% are Venus analogues, 2% $\pm$ 1% are Earth analogues, and 26% $\pm$ 12% are without a known planetary counterpart in our solar system. Extrapolating to conditions on LHS 3844b and GJ 1252b, our classification method gives results reasonably consistent with current observations. Subsequently, to demonstrate the functionality of this classification method, we plot our catalogued sample of exoplanets on an adjusted surface pressure versus temperature phase diagram, presenting more realistic estimates of the potential surface phases (gas, liquid or ice). Our new classification method could help target selection for future exoplanet characterisation missions., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS, 13 pages, 7 figures

Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena - Abstract
Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are highly dispersed millisecond-duration radio bursts, of which the physical origin is still not fully understood. FRB 20201124A is one of the most actively repeating FRBs. In this paper, we present the collection of 1863 burst dynamic spectra of FRB 20201124A measured with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). The current collection, taken from the observation during the FRB active phase from April to June 2021, is the largest burst sample detected in any FRB so far. The standard PSRFITs format is adopted, including dynamic spectra of the burst, and the time information of the dynamic spectra, in addition, mask files help readers to identify the pulse positions are also provided.

Nuclear Theory - Abstract
This theoretical study is devoted to bridging the gap between the nuclear structure and reaction dynamics and unravelling their impact on each other, considering the neutron-rich light mass 30-60Ar isotopes. Using the relativistic mean-field with the NL3* parameter set, several bulk properties such as binding energies, charge radii, quadrupole deformation parameter, two neutron separation energy, and differential two neutron separation energy with the shell closure parameter are probed for the mentioned isotopic chain. For validation, the RMF (NL3*) results are compared with those obtained from the finite range droplet model (FRDM), Weizsacker-Skyrme model with WS3, WS* parameters and the available experimental data. Most of the participating isotopes are found to be prolate in structure and neutron shell closures are conspicuously revealed at N=14, 20, 40 but weakly shown at N=24, 28, 34. From our analysis, a central depletion in the nucleonic density is identified in 32Ar and 42-58Ar, indicating them as possible candidates for a semi-bubble-like structure. Interestingly, these results are consistent with recent theoretical and experimentally measured data. Besides, using the Glauber model, the reaction cross-sections are determined by taking 26-48Ar as projectiles and stable targets such as 12C, 16O, 40Ca, 90Zr, 124,132Sn, 208Pb and 304120. Although there is no experimental evidence for the stability of 304120, it has been predicted in Ref. [Mod. Phys. Lett. A {\bf 27}, 1250173 (2012)] as a stable nucleus. A relatively higher cross-section value is noticed between 30Ar and 32Ar which infers that 32Ar is the most stable isotope among the considered chain. Moreover, we noticed that the profile of the differential cross-sections and scattering angle are highly influenced by the mass of the target nuclei and the magnitude of the incident energy of the projectile nucleus., Comment: 19 pages, 7 figures
