Abstract

This study takes Chinese hotels as example, explores the driving forces and objectives underlying the cross-border acquisitions (CBAs) of hotel corporations based in emerging economies (EEs) from three perspectives: the institutional conditions of EEs; the characteristics of the hotel industry; and the types of the acquiring corporations. To this end, 20 senior corporate executives who served as decision makers in seven Chinese hotel corporations’ CBAs were interviewed. The findings identify four emerging objectives of Chinese hotel corporations: 1) create network; 2) export the brand; 3) obtain land resources; and 4) transfer assets. The findings also demonstrate that the institutional conditions of EEs, the characteristics of the hotel industry and the types of the acquiring corporations are important influential factors in the CBAs decisions of Chinese hotel corporations.

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the association between folate levels and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk during the whole pregnancy. Design: In this retrospective cohort study of pregnant women, serum folate levels were measured before 24 gestational weeks (GW). GDM was diagnosed between 24th and 28th GW based on the criteria of the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups. General linear models were performed to examine the association of serum folate with plasma glucose (i.e. linear regressions) and risk of GDM (i.e. log-binomial regressions) after controlling for confounders. Restricted cubic spline regression was conducted to test the dosage–response relationship between serum folate and the risk of GDM. Setting: A sigle, urban hospital in Shanghai, China. Participants: A total of 42 478 women who received antenatal care from April 2013 to March 2017 were included. Results: Consistent positive associations were observed between serum folate and plasma glucose levels (fasting, 1-h, 2-h). The adjusted relative risks (RR) and 95 % CI of GDM across serum folate quartiles were 1·00 (reference), 1·15 (95 % CI (1·04, 1·26)), 1·40 (95 % CI (1·27, 1·54)) and 1·54 (95 % CI (1·40, 1·69)), respectively (P -for-trend < 0·001). The positive association between serum folate and GDM remained when stratified by vitamin B12 (adequate v. deficient groups) and the GW of serum folate measurement (≤13 GW v. >13 GWs) Conclusions: The findings of this study may provide important evidence for the public health and clinical guidelines of pregnancy folate supplementation in terms of GDM prevention. Abstract

Pre-existing joints within a rock mass has a significant effect on the hydro-mechanical properties of the rock mass. The study investigates the hydro-mechanical properties of rock-like materials with intermittent joints under different confining and hydraulic pressures. Cylindrical specimens containing two sets of parallel pre-existing joints were prepared, and the hydro-mechanical experiments under different hydraulic pressures were carried out using a servo-controlled rock triaxial testing system. The test results show that the strength, permeability and deformation properties of the specimens were influenced by the hydraulic pressure. The four stages of evolution of permeability in the deformation process is closely correlated with the development of joints and cracks within the specimen. The relations between volumetric strain and permeability were analyzed and discussed. It is found that the exponential function describes the permeability and volumetric strain relation well in the contraction stage. When the fluid pressure is high, the fluid pressure has a larger impact on the specimen failure mode than the pre-existing thin joints within the specimen in this test. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The car's suspension play a decisive role in car’s driving smoothness and handling exercised stability. Therefore, the research of suspension is vital important. This paper presents a simulation of Suspension Dual-mass System based on mathematical formula of the car wheel and body double quality system, and the suspension dual-mass system model which established by using the Simulink. And taken the suspension spring stiffness, shock absorber damping coefficient, the given incentives for the road as the basic parameters for suspension vibration system simulation model, the results prove the feasibility and effectiveness of the model, and the vibration characteristics of the suspension during the analysis process, we are convenient and quick to adjust the corresponding parameter independently by using this simulation model, can get an intuitive vibration characteristics of the image data, get a better analysis of the simulation results meet the design requirements.
