209. Fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in plate-fin heat exchanger with irregular-shaped hole leading flow structure

Abstract

Fluid inhomogeneous distribution affects heat transfer efficiency in the plate-fin heat exchanger (PFHE). In order to improve fluid uniform distribution in the exchanger, the irregular-shaped hole leading flow structure (IHLFS) was proposed for solving fluid inhomogeneous distribution among different layers of PFHE. The inlet distributor with irregular-shaped holes was designed according to different inlet flow velocities aiming at improving fluid uniform distribution. The results on fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics were carried out by the methods of CFD and experimental analysis, and finally, the fluid flow characteristics in inlet section of PFHE with IHLFS were achieved. Comparing with round hole leading flow structure (RHLFS), it can be observed that fluid distribution in PFHE with IHLFS is more uniform than that with round hole, however, the dynamic pressure increases accordingly and finally, increases the ratio of heat transfer and dynamic pressure. The comparison results also demonstrate that the IHLFS can improve fluid distribution, decrease fluid impact in inlet section of PFHE and finally, improve heat transfer enhancement.

Abstract

We consider the problem of interactive decision making, encompassing structured bandits and reinforcement learning with general function approximation. Recently, Foster et al. (2021) introduced the Decision-Estimation Coefficient, a measure of statistical complexity that lower bounds the optimal regret for interactive decision making, as well as a meta-algorithm, Estimation-to-Decisions, which achieves upper bounds in terms of the same quantity. Estimation-to-Decisions is a reduction, which lifts algorithms for (supervised) online estimation into algorithms for decision making. In this note, we show that by combining Estimation-to-Decisions with a specialized form of optimistic estimation introduced by Zhang (2022), it is possible to obtain guarantees that improve upon those of Foster et al. (2021) by accommodating more lenient notions of estimation error. We use this approach to derive regret bounds for model-free reinforcement learning with value function approximation.

Abstract

Join is a data-intensive and compute-intensive operation in database systems. As most existing solutions to accelerate the hash join operation on field programmable gate array (FPGA) are focused on N-to-1 join relationships, their performances rapidly decline on N-to-M joins. To resolve this shortcoming, this brief proposes a novel architecture combining hash and sort-merge algorithms for join acceleration. In the build phase, the architecture utilizes a single hash function to build hash tables for two data tables, and the hash collisions are addressed by building ordered linked lists according to their join attributes. In the merge phase, mapped buckets in two hash tables are merged one-to-one to find matching tuples. This architecture lends itself to high parallelism to improve its performance. Experimental results show that the design on a FPGA achieved a high join throughput of 194.0 million tuples per second, which is better than the reported FPGA implementations. Moreover, the architecture is perfectly compatible with both N-to-1 and N-to-M join relationships.
