PurposeBased on social science theories of customer's action such as theory of planned behaviour, theory of reasoned action, and technology acceptance model, this paper adopts belief–attitude–intention model to study impact of perceived process-belief of different stages of e-service delivery system process (e-SDSP), i.e., searching process belief (SPB), agreement process belief (APB), fulfilment process belief (FPB) and after-sales service process belief (ASPB) on customer attitude and intention towards service providers. The study also focuses on the mediating effect of customer attitude on the relationship between process-beliefs of different stages of e-SDSP and their behavioural intention.Design/methodology/approachA quantitative method has been employed using data collected from 414 Indian e-retail customers. Structural equation modelling with bootstrap estimation is used to find the mediating effect of attitude.FindingsThe findings suggest that SPB and ASPB directly impact the customer attitude while APB and FPB directly impact the customer behavioural intention. The study also finds that customer attitude towards e-retailers fully mediates the effect of SPB and ASPB on the behavioural intention but there are no mediating effects for APB and FPB.Research limitations/implicationsThe sample used may not be generalizable for India, given its huge diversity and population. As the sample considers only Indian e-retail customers, this study may lack generalizability across countries.Originality/valueIn our knowledge, this study is the first step to conceptualize the process-oriented customer's perceived belief of different stages of e-SDSP and how these beliefs impact the customers' attitude and intention towards the e-retailers. The findings offer insight to managers on how they can create and cultivate customer happiness and positive behavioural intention by enhanced customer journey throughout the e-SDSP.

Introduction: Faculty development to implement competency-based medical education (CBME) is urgently needed as the Medical Council of India has implemented the competency-based curriculum this year onwards. Objectives: To evaluate a 2-day faculty development workshop in terms of: (a) increase in knowledge about CBME terminology and concepts, (b) self-reported capacity to develop and implement a competency-based module in their respective disciplines, and (c) satisfaction of the participants. Methodology: A single arm interventional study using mixed methods was carried out in which faculty members were purposively identified and requested to volunteer for a two-day faculty development workshop on the development and implementation of CBME. The workshop was evaluated (open-ended and Likert scored items) by the participants for self-reported gain in knowledge, gain in their confidence to develop and implement CBME, and level of satisfaction with respect to the components of the workshop. Quantitative data was analyzed by Wilcoxon signed rank test and Kruskal–Wallis test. Qualitative data was analyzed by doing content analysis and emerging themes have been presented. Results: Eleven faculty members attended a capacity building workshop for developing and implementing a competency-based curriculum for medical undergraduates. There was a significant improvement in their self-reported knowledge and attitude regarding the competency-based curriculum. New concepts learned fell into four domains: modification of the existing curriculum toward competency-based curriculum, knowledge of CBME, teaching-learning and assessment methods, and beneficial to the students. The participants were highly satisfied with the workshop in its current form. Conclusion: A two-day faculty development workshop can increase the knowledge and understanding of competency-based medical education and can be an important first step in the journey to more specialized training.

Asset maintenance is driven by allocation of yearly maintenance budget (YMB). Lack of scientific methods for its evaluation has led to allocations that are subjective and erroneous causing wastage or lack of resources. The objective of the work is to estimate yearly budget for plant maintenance. In this work, the constraint of subjective quantification of budget influencing parameters proposed in the literature is removed. Suggested methodology is more realistic in a real world context and results into more rational estimation of maintenance budget. Graph theory and matrix approach model along with Monte Carlo simulations are deployed to evaluate maintenance budget by assigning random values to the budget parameters within specified range. MatLab code is deployed for its implementation. The budget influencing parameters are simulated for pre-defined maintenance levels. Inferential statistics is applied to find the appropriate distribution and evaluate the interval estimation of maintenance budget. The maintenance budget so estimated is validated by comparing it with world-class and best practices values reported in the literature. The Monte Carlo simulation results for different maintenance levels are presented with mean, variance and interval estimation of maintenance budget. The methodology suggested in this work will be a useful aid to maintenance managers in assigning YMB to their plant systems and provide indications for maintenance system corrections. This will avoid using historic data or subjective expert judgments.

BACKGROUND: Sinonasal malignancies are a complex and diverse group of tumors. Over the past five decades, treatment advances have changed the management paradigms for these tumors. Our aim was to analyze the outcomes of patients from a comprehensive cancer center. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively assessed 400 patients with sinonasal malignancies treated with surgery at our center between 1973 and 2015. Multiple variables were reviewed to assess the influence on 5-year outcomes. RESULTS: The median age was 56 years (IQR 46.8–68). Two hundred and fifty-nine (65%) were males and 141 (35%) were females. Overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) improved in the last analyzed decade. Orbital invasion, advanced pT-classification and pN-classification, and melanoma histology were associated with poorer outcomes. CONCLUSION: Treatment outcomes for patients with sinonasal malignancy have improved over time. This is likely multifactorial with advances in surgical technique, adjuvant treatment, and patient selection. pT-classification, pN-classification, orbital invasion, and histology are predictive of survival.

Background and Objective: We compared trans-right atrial (t-RA) versus combined (trans-right-atrial and trans-ventricular (t-RA/RV) approaches for intra-cardiac repair of Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) for the pre-operative and post-operative right ventricular (RV) function. The RV function was calculated using a tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) using two-dimensional (2-D) echocardiography. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study. Fifty-three patients operated for the intra-cardiac repair of TOF between August 2019 and March 2021 were included in the study and divided into two groups based on the approach for repair as follows: t-RA or combined (t-RA/RV) approach. The first group (t-RA) had twenty-one patients, and the second group (combined t-RA/RV approach) had thirty-two patients. The assessment of pre-operative and post-operative RV function was done using TAPSE. Records of follow-up at 1 month and 3 months were evaluated. Results: Age, body surface area (BSA), preoperative saturation, cardiopulmonary bypass time, aortic cross?clamp time, postoperative intensive care unit (ICU) stay, and hospital stay were similar in both groups. However, t?RA/RV group had more pleural effusions (9 vs. 1 patients, P < 0.05), but had more improvements in Right Ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) gradients. There were no differences in arrhythmias in either group. Pre-operative TAPSE for both groups was similar (1.46 ± 0.27 vs. 1.61 ± 0.31, P > 0.05) and so was the post?operative TAPSE at discharge (1.54 ± 0.31 vs. 1.49 ± 0.33, P > 0.05), at 1 months (1.64 ± 0.25 vs. 1.48 ± 0.32, P > 0.05) and 3months (1.75 ± 0.19 vs. 1.7 ± 0.15, P > 0.05). Conclusion: Both approaches provide adequate palliation with effective improvements in RVOT gradients for patients with TOF. A limited right ventriculotomy does not adversely affect early RV function or increase the incidence of arrhythmias at the immediate post-operative period and early follow-up. More extensive studies with prospective randomized design and longer follow-ups are needed to address these issues further. Keywords: Tetralogy of Fallot, transatrial approach, intracardiac repair.

Background: Minimally invasive mitral valve replacement surgery (MIMVR) is gaining popularity for its multifold advantages. Here we report our single-institution experience with MIMVR through the right minithoracotomy over two years. Materials and Methods: This study was a retrospective analytical study. Forty-two patients undergoing MIMVR between August 2019 and July 2021 were included. Recorded perioperative data were collected and evaluated retrospectively. Results: A total of 42 patients were included in the study, of which 29 were females (69%). The mean age was 43.2+/- 8.2 years. Overall 30-day mortality was 2.38% (n = 1). Mean operating time, cardiopulmonary bypass, and aortic cross-clamp times were 264.9 ± 48.7, 151.5 ± 39.8, and 89.8 ± 25.6 minutes, respectively. Tricuspid valve annuloplasty was performed in 8 patients (19%). One patient (2.38%) required conversion to median sternotomy, and three patients (7.1%) underwent re-explorations due to bleeding. The median postoperative hospital stay was 5 days. Conclusions: MIMVR through right minithoracotomy is feasible, safe, and reproducible with low mortality and morbidity. Mitral valve surgery through a small anterior thoracotomy is a good alternative to conventional thoracotomy. Keywords: minimally invasive, minithoracotomy, mitral valve replacement

Screen-based media have become an important part of human lifestyle. In view of their easy availability and increasing use in Indian children, and their excessive use being linked to physical, developmental and emotional problems, there is a need to develop guidelines related to ensure digital wellness and regulate screen time in infants, children, and adolescents.To review the evidence related to effects of screen-based media and excessive screen time on children's health; and to formulate recommendations for limiting screen time and ensuring digital wellness in Indian infants, children and adolescents.An Expert Committee constituted by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), consisting of various stakeholders in private and public sector, reviewed the literature and existing guidelines. A detailed review document was circulated to the members, and the National consultative meet was held online on 26th March 2021 for a day-long deliberation on framing the guidelines. The consensus review and recommendations formulated by the Group were circulated to the participants and the guidelines were finalized.Very early exposure to screen-based media and excessive screen time (1-2h/d) seems to be widely prevalent in Indian children. The Group recommends that children below 2 years age should not be exposed to any type of screen, whereas exposure should be limited to a maximum of one hour of supervised screen time per day for children 24-59 months age, and less than two hours per day for children 5-10 years age. Screen time must not replace other activities such as outdoor physical activities, sleep, family and peer interaction, studies and skill development, which are necessary for overall health and development of the children and adolescents. Families should ensure a warm, nurturing, supportive, fun filled and secure environment at home, and monitor their children's screen use to ensure that the content being watched is educational, age-appropriate and non-violent. Families, schools and pediatricians should be educated regarding the importance of recording screen exposure and digital wellness as a part of routine child health assessment, and detect any signs of cyberbullying or media addiction; and tackle it timely with expert consultation if needed.

Data generated after the first wave has revealed that some children with coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) can become seriously ill. Multi-inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) and long COVID cause significant morbidity in children. Prolonged school closures and quarantine have played havoc with the psychosocial health of children. Many countries in the world have issued emergency use authorisation (EUA) of selected Covid-19 vaccines for use in children. In India, a Subject Expert Committee (SEC) has recommended the use of Covaxin (Bharat Biotech) for children from the ages of 2-18 years. The recommendation has been given to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for final approval.To provide an evidence-based document to guide the pediatricians on the recommendation to administer COVID vaccines to children, as and when they are available for use.Formulation of key questions was done by the committee, followed by review of literature on epidemiology and burden of Covid-19 in children, review of the studies on COVID vaccines in children, and the IAP stand on Covid-19 vaccination in children. The available data was discussed in the ACVIP focused WhatsApp group followed by an online meeting on 24 October, 2021, wherein the document was discussed in detail and finalized.The IAP supports the Government of India's decision to extend the COVID-19 vaccination program to children between 2-18 years of age. Children with high-risk conditions may be immunized on a priority basis. The IAP and its members should be a partner with the Government of India, in the implementation of this program and the surveillance that is necessary following the roll-out.

Febrile seizures are quite common in children but there are controversies in many aspects of their diagnosis and management.An expert group consisting of pediatric neurologists and pediatricians was constituted. The modified Delphi method was used to develop consensus on the issues of definitions and investigations. The writing group members reviewed the literature and identified the contentious issues under these subheadings. The questions were framed, pruned, and discussed among the writing group members. The final questions were circulated to all experts during the first round of Delphi consensus. The results of the first round were considered to have arrived at a consensus if more than 75% experts agreed. Contentious issues that reached a 50-75% agreement was discussed further in online meetings and subsequently voting was done over an online platform to arrive at a consensus. Three rounds of Delphi were conducted to arrive at final statements.The expert group arrived at a consensus on 52 statements. These statements pertain to definitions of febrile seizures, role of blood investigations, urine investigations, neuroimaging, electroencephalography (EEG), cerebrospinal fluid analysis and screening for micronutrient deficiency. In addition, role of rescue medications, intermittent anti-seizure medication and continuous prophylaxis, antipyretic medication and micronutrient supplementation have been covered.This consensus statement addresses various contentious issues pertaining to the diagnosis and management of febrile seizures. Adoption of these statements in office practice will improve and standardize the care of children with this disorder.

The literature on the limitations on the current archaic education system is limitless, the consequences of which have only been exacerbated in the current lockdown scenario. The timed evaluations have not only failed as an assessment tool during these times but research has shown there are increased rates of using unfair means and proctoring as a result. Not only was the system faulty to begin with, it is failing miserably under current lockdown situations. Simultaneously the current literature keeps positing that since technology has become an integral part of our life already, it would not be long before technology integrates with education and assessments. Taking into consideration the need and potential of an integrative system, this paper aims to explore how artificial intelligence can be effectively introduced into education and improve learning outcomes. The paper performs a Comprehensive Literature Review (CLR), and analyses data based on the framework developed by Onwuegbuzie and Frels (2015). The paper thus reviews literature with the aim to explore current models of AIEd and relevant psychological concepts relating to learning and career outcomes.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the most common and life-threatening diseases found across the globe. It occurs due to insulin resistance (IR). Major causes of IR include obesity, sedentary life style and hyperlipidemia. Glimepiride (GLM) is one of the most common oral sulphonyl ureas that is being used to treat diabetes and Simvastatin (SIM) is one of the most common statins that is used to treat hyperlipidaemia. However, both the drugs suffer from dissolution rate limited oral bioavailability. Hence, the aim of present study was to develop two different nanoformulations viz. nanosuspension and self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) and evaluate their potential in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus on streptozotocin (STZ) induced rats. In the present study two such drugs, GLM and SIM were co-formulated into nanosuspension (NS) as well as self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (L-SNEDDS). Both formulations were spray dried for solidification and evaluated for their antidiabetic potential against high fat diet and streptozotocin induced rat model. The study showed significant (p 0.05) decrease in lipid/cholesterol and blood glucose levels and significant increase in antioxidant levels in the rats treated with NS and SNEDDS containing the drugs alone as well as their combination as compared to their unprocessed forms. However, the efficacy was more prominent in case of combination possibly due to dual benefits i.e., decrease in IR due to statin and control of blood glucose level. Among NS and SNEDDS, NS was found more efficacious than that of the SNEDDS possibly due to higher enhancement of oral bioavailability in case of NS.

Early childhood development refers to a child's development from conception till eight years of life, the first 1000 days being the most important. The WHO guideline on nurturing early childhood development encourages attention to good health, nutrition, opportunities for early childhood learning, responsive care, and security. The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) released its consensus statement on early childhood development in 2020 which highlighted the role of pediatricians to lead the community in general and parents in particular to understand how to nurture early childhood development. This article looks at the current undergraduate and postgraduate medical curricula in India to analyze how they address early childhood development. Based on identified lacuna, we have proposed suggestions for change in the current curriculum to ensure that the future doctors in general and pediatricians in particular are prepared for their intended role to promote nurturing care for early childhood development.

The validity of engineering export apportionment in India's economic growth is investigated in this paper. The export-led growth hypothesis is tested in this article to assess the relationship, impact, and contribution of engineering exports in the Indian economy. To test the hypothesis, economic growth measures such as GDP, total exports, total imports, and foreign exchange reserves are used. The study assumed that engineering exports have a direct or indirect effect on growth, but does this hold true for the entire economy? We added engineering export as gear for economic growth in our study to test the ELG hypothesis, which was Contrary to all previous studies. India's fastest-growing economy and rapid expansion of engineering exports in the country's foreign trade make it an ideal match for achieving good results. The nineteen years data from 1999-2000 till 2018-2019 is used for analysis. The OLS is used to establish a relationship between engineering exports and economic growth, the ADF is used to assess stationarity, and the ARDL and ECM are used to calculate the short- and long-term impact of engineering exports on economic growth. In addition, linear forecasting is used to anticipate the future growth of economic indicators. The results reveal that engineering exports had a favorable impact on most economic growth indicators in both the short and long run.

BACKGROUND: The impact of travel distance on stage at presentation and management strategies of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is unknown. We investigated this relationship. METHODS: Retrospective review of patients with laryngeal SCC in the National Cancer Data Base from 2004 to 2016. Multivariate analysis determined relationships between travel distance, sociodemographic, geographic, and hospital factors. Logistic regression determined the influence of travel distance on T-stage and overall stage at presentation, and receipt of total laryngectomy. RESULTS: Sixty thousand four hundred and thirty-nine patients were divided into groups based on distance to treatment: short (50 miles). Increased travel was associated with T4-stage (intermediate vs. short OR 1.11, CI 1.04–1.18, p = 0.001; long vs. short OR 1.5, CI 1.36–1.65, p < 0.001), and total laryngectomy (intermediate vs. short OR 1.40, CI 1.3–1.5, p≤ 0.001; long vs. short OR 2.52, CI 2.28–2.79, p≤ 0.001). In T4 disease, total laryngectomy was associated with improved survival compared to nonsurgical treatment (HR 0.75, CI 0.70–0.80, p < 0.001) regardless of travel distance. CONCLUSION: Longer travel distance to care is associated with increased stage at presentation, rate of laryngectomy, and improved survival in advanced laryngeal SCC. Health policy efforts should be directed towards improving early access to diagnosis and care.

Objective:To assess the outcome of severe wasting in infants below 6 months of age.Design:A prospective observational study conducted between January 2017 and October 2018.Setting:A medical college-affiliated hospital in Eastern Delhi, catering mainly to the urban poor population.Participants:All children with severe wasting (weight-for-length Z-score (WLZ) < −3 sd) between 1 and 6 months of age, requiring hospitalisation.Results:Out of fifty children enrolled, during hospitalisation, forty-two (84 %) recovered (WLZ > −3 sd) and discharged; the median (interquartile range (IQR)) duration of stay was 9·5 (6·5, 13·0) d. After 100 d of enrolment, sustained cure (WLZ > −2 SD) could be achieved in only fifteen (30 %) infants, while another fourteen (28 %) recovered from severe wasting, but remained in moderately wasted state (WLZ between −2 and −3 sd). Overall, there were three (6 %) deaths (all during first week of hospitalisation); three (6 %) relapses and fifteen (30 %) defaulters (5, 5, 2, 1 and 2 defaulted during hospitalisation at day 15, day 60, day 75 and day 90, respectively).Conclusions:The overall recovery rate from severe wasting in infants below 6 months of age was below the acceptable levels. In order to achieve better long-term outcome, community linkage services after discharge from hospital are required for supervised feeding, close monitoring and supportive care.

Justification In India, till recently, breastfeeding women have been excluded from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination program, rendering a significant population of the country, including frontline workers, ineligible to derive the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Objective The objective of this recommendation is production of an evidence-based document to guide the pediatricians to give advice to breastfeeding mothers regarding the safety of COVID-19 vaccines in lactating women. Process Formulation of key question was done under the chairmanship of president of the IAP. It was followed by review of literature regarding efficacy and safety of COVID-19 vaccines in breastfeeding women. The recommendations of other international and national professional bodies were also deliberated in detail. The available data was discussed in the ACVIP focused WhatsApp group. Opinion of all members was taken and the final document was prepared after achieving consensus. Recommendations The IAP/ACVIP recommends the administration of COVID-19 vaccines to all breastfeeding women. The IAP/ACVIP endorses the recent recommendation of the Government of India, to consider all breastfeeding women as eligible for COVID-19 vaccination.

We aimed to compare the efficacy of daily v. low dose depot oral vitamin D3 for treating nutritional rickets. We conducted a randomised controlled trial in the department of paediatrics of a tertiary care hospital catering to semi-urban and rural population in Delhi, India. We randomised sixty-six children aged 3 months to 5 years with nutritional rickets to receive either daily oral vitamin D3 drops (3-12 months: 2000 IU;12 months to 5 years: 4000 IU; n 33) for 12 weeks duration or a single oral depot dose of vitamin D3 granules (3-12 months: 60 000 IU;12 months to 5 years: 150 000 IU; n 33). Participants in both groups had comparable demographic characteristics, laboratory features and radiological severity of rickets. Thirty-three participants in each group received the assigned intervention and all were followed up till 12 weeks. At 12 weeks follow-up, children in both groups showed a significant improvement in all biochemical parameters (serum Ca, P, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), parathormone and 25(OH) vitamin D levels) as well as radiological healing. At 12 weeks, the mean serum 25(OH) vitamin D levels (nmol/l) were statistically comparable in both groups (daily: 120·2 (sd 83·2), depot: 108 (sd 74), P = 0·43) and 31 (93·9 %) children in each group had radiological healing (Thacher score1·5). Two children in each group persisted to have raised ALP, and one child each in the daily group continued to have hypocalcaemia and hypophosphataemia at 12 weeks. Low dose oral depot vitamin D3 is an effective alternative to daily oral vitamin D3 for nutritional rickets.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends promotion of nurturing care for early childhood development (NC-ECD) by focusing on five essential components viz., good health, adequate nutrition, promotion of early childhood learning, responsive caregiving, and safety and security. Indian medical graduates and pediatricians are the keys to successful delivery and propagation of NC-ECD in the community. Their training therefore needs to include skills and knowledge needed to promote and practice ECD.To evaluate the existing undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) curricula of pediatrics for components related to early childhood development, assess gaps in the training essential to practice and promote ECD, and suggest recommendations to incorporate NC-ECD in the UG and PG curricula.Indian Academy of Pediatrics created a task force to review the UG/PG medical curricula, consisting of experts from pediatrics and medical education. The task force deliberated on 20 March, 2021 and identified the gaps in current curricula and provided suggestions to strengthen it. The recommendations of the task force are presented here.Taskforce identified that the UG/PG medical curricula are lacking training for propagating early childhood learning, responsive caregiving, caregiver support, and ensuring safety and security of children. The taskforce provided a list of competencies related to ECD that need to be included in both UG and PG curriculum. NC-ECD should also be included in topics for integrated teaching. Postgraduates also need to be exposed to hands-on-training at anganwadis, creches, and in domestic setting.

We assessed compliance to routine vitamin D supplementation in 330 infants (age 6 wk to 9 mo), who were prescribed supplemen-tation at birth. 137 (41.5%) had received vitamin D supplemen-tation at some point of time till enrolment. Median (IQR) compliance to routine vitamin D supplementation was 66.7% (50%, 83.3%) in those who ever received supple-mentation. Only 29 (8.8%) were receiving appropriate routine vitamin D supple-mentation in terms of dose, frequency and duration. There was low level of reinforcement (35%) from healthcare workers and low parental awareness (34%) of the need of supplementation.

To evaluate the seasonal change in serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OHD) level in healthy infants and to relate it to common childhood morbidities. 72 healthy breastfed infants residing in Delhi were enrolled at the end of summer and followed till the end of winter [mean (SD) duration 200 (10) d]. Short life cycle of the products, large product variants and unanticipated changes in customer demand in a dynamic social context pose a significant challenge for design of an appropriate manufacturing system. Reconfigurable machine tool, which is the foundation block for reconfigurable manufacturing system is envisaged as a solution that caters to the current market forces. This paper discusses the reconfiguration mechanisms, which enable transformation of conventional machine tools, such as, drilling, lathe and milling machines into reconfigurable machines that will achieve the objectives. It is expected that, this work will help designers and practicing engineers by making them aware of the reconfiguration mechanisms, which have become a necessity for the very survival of the manufacturing sector by lowering the overall capital costs and, therefore, the per unit fixed costs.

In view of easy availability and increasing trend of consumption of fast foods and sugar sweetened beverages (fruit juices and drinks, carbonated drinks, energy drinks) in Indian children, and their association with increasing obesity and related non-communicable diseases, there is a need to develop guidelines related to consumption of foods and drinks that have the potential to increase this problem in children and adolescents. To review the evidence and formulate consensus statements related to terminology, magnitude of problem and possible ill effects of junk foods, fast foods, sugar-sweetened beverages and carbonated drinks; and to formulate recommendations for limiting consumption of these foods and beverages in Indian children and adolescents. Process: A National Consultative group constituted by the Nutrition Chapter of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), consisting of various stakeholders in private and public sector, reviewed the literature and existing guidelines and policy regulations. Detailed review of literature was circulated to the members, and the Group met on 11th March 2019 at New Delhi for a day-long deliberation on framing the guidelines. The consensus statements and recommendations formulated by the Group were circulated to the participants and a consensus document was finalized. The Group suggests a new acronym ‘JUNCS’ foods, to cover a wide variety of concepts related to unhealthy foods (Junk foods, Ultra-processed foods, Nutritionally inappropriate foods, Caffeinated/colored/carbonated foods/beverages, and Sugar-sweetened beverages). The Group concludes that consumption of these foods and beverages is associated with higher free sugar and energy intake; and is associated with higher body mass index (and possibly with adverse cardiometabolic consequences) in children and adolescents. Intake of caffeinated drinks may be associated with cardiac and sleep disturbances. The Group recommends avoiding consumption of the JUNCS by all children and adolescents as far as possible and limit their consumption to not more than one serving per week. The Group recommends intake of regional and seasonal whole fruits over fruit juices in children and adolescents, and advises no fruit juices/drinks to infants and young children (age 5–18 y, their intake should be limited to 125 mL/day and 250 mL/day, respectively. The Group recommends that caffeinated energy drinks should not be consumed by children and adolescents. The Group supports recommendations of ban on sale of JUNCS foods in school canteens and in near vicinity, and suggests efforts to ensure availability and affordability of healthy snacks and foods. The Group supports traffic light coding of food available in school canteens and recommends legal ban of screen/print/digital advertisements of all the JUNCS foods for channels/magazines/websites/social media catering to children and adolescents. The Group further suggests communication, marketing and policy/taxation strategies to promote consumption of healthy foods, and limit availability and consumption of the JUNCS foods.
