Abstract

In Italy the cultivation damages due to the wild animal are more and more increased in the last years. The National Parks are ionvolved in this problem for the environment and economic implication. In 1997 the National Park of Cilento e Vallo di Diano has provided to nominare a Commission for fauna damages evaluation. Data from 1995 to 1997 were analyzed.

Abstract

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a polysaccharide widely used in biomedical applications, due to its elevated biocompatibility and the peculiar viscoelastic properties of its solutions. Although the viscoelastic behaviour of HA solutions has been extensively studied in the literature it has been often reported in the range of low frequency (1-100 Hz) and high salt concentration, whereas the main rheological peculiarities of this molecule are expected at high frequency (100 Hz) and low salt concentration. In this work we studied the viscoelastic properties of low molecular weight HA (155 kDa) in wide range of concentrations (0.01-20 mg/ml) at low ionic strength and over an extended frequency range (0.1-1000 Hz) using both optical tweezers and conventional rheometry. Good agreement between the high frequency dynamic behaviour (optical tweezers) and the viscoelastic properties at low frequency (rheometry) was found. We also found that, in apparent contradiction with polyelectrolyte solution theory, HA solution behaves as liquid-like viscoelastic fluid (G''G') even at concentrations higher than the entanglement concentration where a weak-gel behavior should be expected.

242. A DFG spectrometer at 3 mm for high resolution molecular spectroscopy and trace gas detection

Abstract

We report the realization and characterization of a spectrometer based on difference frequency generation using a periodically poled lithium niobate crystal. As signal and pump lasers we used a diode-pumped Nd-YAG laser (lambda = 1.064 mum) and an extended cavity semiconductor diode laser (lambda = 0.785 mum), respectively. The mid-infrared coherent radiation was produced at 3 pm with a maximum power of about 160 nW obtained with 340 mW of signal and only 3.4 mW of pump. That corresponds to an efficiency of 0.01%/W cm, which is in good agreement with other data available in literature. The generated radiation around 3 mum has allowed us to study fundamental absorption bands of molecules of great atmospheric and physical interest Such as water vapor and the hydroxyl free radical. In this work we report preliminary spectroscopic results concerning the v (1) 5(41) --> 6(52) H2O line at 2.968 mum. In particular. for this line we provide the first experimental estimation of self-, N-2- and O-2- broadening coefficients.
