Radical copolymerization of coumarin with N-vinylamides (N‑vinylpyrrolidone, N-methyl-N-vinylacetamide, N-vinylformamide) has been used to prepare copolymers of various composition with variable molecular weights. Subsequent reactions in their polymer chains affords water-soluble copolymers of salts of hydroxycinnamic acid and its hydrazides. The synthesized copolymers of hydroxycinnamic acid salts and hydrazides with N-vinylamides have low cytotoxicity and demonstrate the pronounced antiviral activity against human respiratory syncytial virus (strain A2). Thermal acid-catalyzed liquid-phase dehydration of 1-(4-aminophenyl)ethanol at 250–260°C and 30–100 mm Hg was studied. In the presence of KHSO a 2:1 mixture of 1-amino-4-ethylbenzene with 4-aminostyrene is formed, the use of KHSO/KHPO causes the formation of polymers, and the use of HBO (≤ 0.26 wt %) in a mixture with KHSO allows the preparation of pure 4-aminostyrene. Structural peculiarities star‐shape polyvinylformamide (PVF) grafted to C 60 have been studied by small‐angle neutron scattering in heavy water at 20°C in the range of neutron momentum transfer q=0.03–4 nm -1 to cover spatial scales from monomer unit (fullerene) size up to star diameter and clusters dimension. A butylamine derivative of fullerene was prepared by the reaction of butylamine with fullerene C60. The experimental electrooptical and dipole characteristics of the derivative were compared with the corresponding calculated PM3 data. The reaction product proved to be inhomogeneous in the number of the amine molecules added; it contains polar multiadducts of C60 with noncentrosymmetric distribution of covalently bound amino groups over the fullerene core. New copolymers of vinylphosphonic and p‐methacrylamidobenzoic acids of varying compositions were synthesized via free radical copolymerization. The structure of the obtained polymers was confirmed by NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. As the proportion of vinylphosphonic acid in the initial reaction mixture increased, the yield of the copolymer and its molecular mass both decreased. The synthesized copolymers were found to form stable soluble luminescent complexes in dilute aqueous solutions, with a concentration range of 0.002 to 0.02 mg/ml. An increase in the concentration of vinylphosphonic acid moieties in copolymers was accompanied by a noticeable decrease in the luminescence intensity. The new copolymers' ability to bind efficiently with lanthanide ions renders them a promising material for the design of polymeric contrast agents, preparations for radioimmunotherapy and photodynamic therapy. Radical copolymerization of coumarin with N-vinylamides (N-vinylpyrrolidone, N-vinylformamide, and N-methyl-N-vinylacetamide) initiated by 2,2′-azobisisobutyronitrile in bulk at 65°C has been studied. The comonomer reactivity ratios for the monomer pairs N-vinylformamide/coumarin (r1 = 0.22±0.03, r2 = 0) and N-methyl-N-vinylacetamide/coumarin (r1 = 0.08±0.01, r2 = 0) have been determined. New random copolymers containing protected aldehyde groups were prepared by radical copolymerization of N-methyl-N-vinylacetamide with allylidene diacetate. The relative activity constants were determined: for N-methyl-N-vinylacetamine, r1 = 1.02 ± 0.015; for allylidene acetate, r2 = 0.95 ± 0.02. Removal of the acetyl protecting groups by base hydrolysis of allylidene diacetate units at 45-50°С yielded water-soluble N-methyl-Nvinylacetamide copolymers with high content of acrolein units, promising for use as polymer carriers of biologically active compounds. Water-soluble random copolymer of N-vinylformamide with sodium 4-styrenesulfonate is synthesized by free radical copolymerization. Copolymer fractions are studied by the methods of molecular hydrodynamics: viscometry, translational diffusion, and sedimentation velocity in dilute aqueous solutions. Molecular characteristics and scaling relations are obtained.
