Objective: To determine the relationship between dietary pattern and gastrointestinal symptoms of children with autistic spectrum disorder. Methodology: A descriptive study is designed to determine the relationship between dietary pattern and gastrointestinal symptoms of children with autistic spectrum disorder for the period of October 20th 2021 to May 15th 2023. A nonprobability, convenient, sample of (150) parent of children with autistic spectrum disorder is selected for the purpose of the study. All parents have signed consent form for their agreement to participate in the study and to ensure confidentiality, as well as to confirm the ethical considerations. A developed questionnaire is used for the purpose of the current study. The questionnaire is comprised of (4) parts that include: parents' socio-demographic characteristics (15) item; children's socio-demographic characteristics (12) item; dietary patterns (16) item and gastrointestinal symptoms (14) item. Content validity of the questionnaire is determined through panel of (20) expert in the fields of Pediatric Nursing, Pediatric Medicine and Community Health Nursing. Internal consistency reliability of the questionnaire is obtained through the use of split-half technique. Cronbach alpha correlation coefficient is computed for such reliability; (r=0.81) for dietary patterns and (r=0.78) for gastrointestinal symptoms. Data are collected through the use of the study questionnaire. Data are analyzed through the use of the descriptive statistical data analysis approach of frequency, percent, mean, standard deviation, total scores and range and inferential statistical data analysis approach of multiple linear regressions. Results: The study findings indicate that children have experienced problems with their dietary patterns and such patterns have highly significant relationship with gastrointestinal symptoms among children with autistic spectrum disorder evidenced by highly significant p-value of (0.001). Conclusion: The study confirms that there is highly significant relationship between dietary patterns and gastrointestinal symptoms among children with autistic spectrum disorder. Recommendation: Special rehabilitative and behavioral programs dealing with the eating behavioral problems of autistic children are needed to be applicable by the specialization centers for autism care. Background: Neonatal nurses' working environments are highly stressful, and burnout is common. This study examines the effect of socioeconomic factors, perceived stress, and social support on neonatal nurse burnout. Methods: A total of 311 neonatal nurses participated in this study. They were administered a validated Maslach Burnout Inventory. The study employed a 14-item perceived stress scale (PSS-14) and a social support rate scale (SSRS) to examine stress, socioeconomic factors, and lifestyles. Results: Of the neonatal nurses, 40.19% had burnout, 89.60% had mild burnout, and 10.40% had moderate burnout; no neonatal nurse experienced severe burnout. Young nurses and those with low technical skills, poor interpersonal relationships, irregular diet, and insufficient rest were exposed to burnout (all p < 0.05).Most burnout nurses experienced moderate-severe perceived stress, and their PSS-14 scores were higher (all p < 0.05).The scores for objective social support, subjective social support, utilization of social support, total SSRS scores, and the level of social support were all lower in burnout nurses (all p < 0.05). Perceived stress was correlated positively and significantly with emotional exhaustion and personal accomplishment (all p < 0.05). Social support correlated significantly with and reduced personal accomplishments (p < 0.05). Age, poor interpersonal relationships, perceived stress, and social support were all independent factors associated with neonatal nurse burnout (all p < 0.05). Conclusion: The prevalence of burnout in neonatal nurses was higher than average. Socioeconomic factors, higher perceived stress, and lower social support contribute to neonatal nurse burnout. Nursing managers should pay attention to socioeconomic factors, perceived stress, and social support among neonatal nurses and employ strategies to reduce neonatal nurse burnout. Novel the bilayered electrospun biosheet with rapid cell mimiciking and proliferative efficacy will be suitable for wound healing application. The optimized concentration of gelatin (G) and sodium alginate (A) biosheet with nanofibrous Poly (3-hydroxybutyric acid) (P) as a bilayered elctrospun matrix through electrospinning. The engineered GAP bilayered biosheet involves tissue formation at extra cellular matrix (ECM) which further characterized its function in vitro and invivo. Here we fabricated GAP which exhibit better physiochemical properties, biological and mechanical properties with superior prosomes it enhance air passable at skin wounds. The Bilayered biosheet matrix possess better biocompatibility, cell adherence, fructuous and cell to cell interactions evaluated using cell lines. Furthermore, GAP bilayered matrix regulates growth factors to attain maximum wound closure efficiency during invivo. Background: Different pharmaceutical characteristics of the dosage form (DF) have a direct effect on how easily oral solid medicine is swallowed. The practice of crushing tablets or opening the capsule occurs daily in the hospital, and most nurses are unknowledgeable regarding these issues. Coadministration of medications with food can cause changes in drug absorption and lead to an alteration in gastrointestinal motility, which can cause an unexpected effect on the dissolution and absorption of the drug. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate nurses' knowledge and practices regarding the mixing of medications with food or drink in Palestine. Methods: From June 2019 to April 2020, a cross-sectional study was conducted, encompassing nurses working in government hospitals across various districts of Palestine. The data were collected through face-to-face interviews, using questionnaires that assessed nurses' understanding and implementation of mixing medications with food. The sampling method employed was convenience sampling. To analyze the gathered information, the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 21 (IBM-SPSS) was utilized. Results: A total of 200 nurses participated in the study. The data show a significant difference between the median knowledge scores according to the department of work (p < 0.001). The highest median [interquartile] knowledge score of 15 [12–15] was found for nurses working in the neonatal intensive care unit. In addition, nurses in the pediatric ward and the men's medical ward had high scores of 13 [11.5–15] and 13 [11–14], respectively. In general, the results show that 88% of nurses modified oral DF prior to administration to patients. Regarding the type of food used, mixing medicine into juice was the most common procedure performed by nurses (approximately 84%); 35% of nurses used orange juice to mix with medicine. The most common reason for crushing was to administer medications to patients with a nasogastric tube (41.5%). In regard to medications, aspirin was the most frequently used drug that was crushed by the nurses (44%); however, 35.5% of nurses did not feel sufficiently trained to carry out this practice. Concerning the sources of information, 58% of nurses usually asked pharmacists for information about medications. Conclusions: The results of this study show that crushing and mixing medications with food is common among nurses, and most nurses are unaware of the dangerous effect of this practice on patient health. Pharmacists, as medication experts, should participate in sharing knowledge about unnecessary crushing situations or when crushing should be avoided and try to find an alternative, when available, to aid administration. The article presents a case study involving an 18-year-old primigravida with a history of prenatal cocaine use who presented with preterm labor and unknown Group B Streptococcus (GBS) status. It is reported that the infant initially appeared stable but later developed increased work of breathing and elevated heart rates. It further emphasizes the importance of recognizing and evaluating clinical signs in neonates, especially when the presentation is nonspecific.

Background: Nurse‐sensitive outcomes are measures for improvement and evaluation of the quality of nursing care delivered. The specific outcomes that need to be measured will be determined by the patient population, as well as the field and scope of practice, in which nursing care is being delivered. Currently, there is no internationally agreed upon set of nurse‐sensitive outcomes for pediatric nursing, which provides specialist care to infants, children, and young people. Aim: To identify and evaluate nurse‐sensitive outcomes for pediatric nursing. Methods: A systematic review was conducted. Five electronic databases (British Nursing Index, CINAHL, EMBASE, MEDLINE, and EMCARE) were searched in the period up to February 2022. Studies were selected for inclusion using title and abstract screening using predetermined criteria. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme tool was used for quality assessment. A narrative synthesis of the results was performed. Results: A total of 633 studies were identified from online searches, with 14 studies meeting the inclusion criteria. All studies had moderate to high methodological strength. A total of 57 nurse‐sensitive outcomes were identified from all included studies. Using the nurse‐sensitive outcome conceptual analysis framework, 25 (45%) of the items were classified as outcome attributes, 20 (35%) as process attributes, and 13 (23%) as structure attributes. The most frequently reported nurse‐sensitive outcomes included pressure ulcers, nosocomial infections, hospital‐acquired infections, peripheral intravenous infiltration, failure to rescue, and staffing levels. Conclusions: This review provides an up‐to‐date and comprehensive list of nurse‐sensitive outcomes for use in pediatric nursing and describes their frequency of use. However, further work is required to achieve consensus for an international core nurse‐sensitive outcome set for pediatric nursing with policy recommendations to ensure agreed‐upon minimum standards. Implications for nursing and health policy: Policy initiatives and guideline recommendations on nurse‐sensitive outcome frameworks as part of patient safety should be a part of key priorities for policy makers. The commonly reported nurse‐sensitive outcomes should be incorporated into daily bedside pediatric clinical nursing practice as a mechanism to evaluate and improve the quality of care, enhancement of patient safety, and better outcomes. Background: Intra-abdominal hypertension is a comorbid condition in critically ill children, is an independent predictor of mortality, and has harmful effects on multiple organ systems through renal, pulmonary or hemodynamic damage. Intra-abdominal pressure monitoring is widely used in clinical practice because it is a safe, accurate, inexpensive, and rapid method for the clinical diagnosis of intra-abdominal hypertension. Objective: To improve pediatric critical care nurses' understanding of and ability to perform intra-abdominal pressure monitoring and provide a reference for standardizing intra-abdominal pressure monitoring in clinical practice. Methods: A literature review was performed using the following keywords: intra-abdominal pressure, bladder pressure, vesicular pressure, measurement, monitoring, critically ill children, pediatric intensive care, pediatric, and children. Four hundred fifty-four articles were initially identified and screened; 24 were included. Results: The monitoring and management of intra-abdominal pressure should include appropriate and clinically proven intra-abdominal pressure measurement techniques, appropriate patients, the proper frequency of measurement, and a repeatable intra-abdominal pressure measurement method. Conclusions: Knowledge of intra-abdominal pressure monitoring in critically ill children enhances the ability of nurses in clinical practice to accurately measure intra-abdominal pressure to improve the timeliness and accuracy of clinical identification of intra-abdominal hypertension and guide decompression interventions. Aim: To present the development, evaluation and adaptation of the PAIN‐Neo theory. Design: Theory development. Data Sources: A review of literature was conduct from 1980 to 2021. Results: Using a critical realism paradigm, this paper presents the PAIN‐Neo theory, which was developed from an analysis of existing theoretical perspectives on paediatric procedural pain, empirical studies conducted with preterm infants, and the research team's pain management expertise. The theory was then empirically tested and fine‐tuned. Implications for Nursing: The PAIN‐Neo theory highlights that the neonatal nurse is part of a larger picture as she is influenced by factors related to her unit, hospital and country of practice. This theory emphasizes the importance of parental involvement in pain management, which is consistent with family‐centred nursing practices. Conclusion: The PAIN‐Neo theory reflects the complexity of pain management nursing. This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between lifelong learning perceptions of pediatric nurses and self-confidence and anxiety in clinical decision-making processes. One of the most important ways to adapt to change in the developing and changing health care environment worldwide and in evidence based nursing care is lifelong learning. The most essential characteristics of a lifelong learner are reflection, questioning, enjoying learning, understanding the dynamic nature of knowledge and engaging in learning by actively seeking learning opportunities so that evidence-based nursing care can be achieved. Pediatric nurses were included in this descriptive, correlational and cross‐sectional study. The study was based on pediatric nursing in the pediatric clinics of a hospital in the capital of Turkiye between April and July 2021. It was determined that the mean scores of lifelong learning differed according to gender, education level, length of service in the profession and the unit in which each individual worked, and these differences were statistically significant. Pediatric nurses' lifelong learning level explained the three subdimensions of self‐confidence in clinical decision-making. The results of the regression analysis indicate that lifelong learning levels of the pediatric nurses did not significantly predict their scores on the subdimensions of anxiety with clinical decision‐making scale. Positive effects on clinical decision-making in the nursing process can be achieved if the tendencies of pediatric nurses toward lifelong learning are sufficient. Assessing nurses' lifelong learning perceptions is an essential step toward implementing evidence-based care for pediatric patients. This study aimed to determine the attitudes of nurses working in the pediatric clinics located in the northern region of Turkey towards missed care needs. This was a descriptive study. It was carried out in the pediatric clinics of a university and a research and training hospital providing service Turkey between January 131, 2022. The sample of the study consists of 121 nurses. A Personal Information Form and Missed Nursing Care Survey-Pediatric Version were used to collect data in the study. The data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. It was found that 40.5% of the nurses were providing care to more than 6 patients per nurse and the number of nurses were insufficient in the units where 86.8% of the nurses were working. The most common missed care needs were identified as "administration of drug 30 minutes before or after the specified time" at a ratio of 53.8%, "providing oral care" at a ratio of 34.7% and "providing emotional support to the child and/or family" at a ratio of 33.9%. It was found that mean total Missed Nursing Care Survey-Pediatric Version score of the participants was 2.35±0.68. Mean scores of the subscales were found to be 2.75±0.79 in Labor Resources, 2.12±0.74 for Material Resources and 2.05±0.77 in Communication/Teamwork, respectively. This study has shown that the most common reason of missed nursing care was workload and the least common one was communication. missed nursing care is an important problem that needs to be overcome in order to create patient safety culture and to ensure the quality of nursing care. Background: Systematic training for the neonatal staff to support parents' active involvement is lacking. There is little information about the effectiveness of educational interventions. Purpose: To evaluate the effects of an educational intervention to neonatal staff on the quality of family-centered care from the perspectives of parents and nurses. Methods: A quasi-experimental before and after study was carried out in 5 Finnish neonatal units in 2014-2018. Data were collected using the DigiFCC-tools with a 7-point Likert scale. Thirty-one fathers and 53 mothers were recruited before the intervention and 21 fathers and 61 mothers after the intervention. They answered 1 question every evening until their infants' discharge. Each nurse answered 1 corresponding question after every shift, during the same period before and after the intervention. Before the intervention 3239 responses and after the intervention 3092 responses were received from nurses. Results: The fathers' total score and the score indicating "Shared decision making" were higher after the intervention than before the intervention. The mothers' total score did not differ between the 2 time periods. The nurses' total score was higher after the intervention than before the intervention. Of the individual items, higher scores were found for "Active listening," "Parents' trust in the nurse," and "Emotional support." Implications for Practice: Developing the staff's negotiating and active listening skills facilitates better support for parents during infants' intensive care. Implications for Research: Family-centered care interventions such as Close Collaboration with Parents should be studied in randomized controlled trials, also including child outcomes. Background: Teamwork during neonatal resuscitation is essential. Situations arise quickly and unexpectedly and are highly stressful, requiring pediatric registered nurses (pRN) to respond effectively and in a structured manner. In Sweden, pRNs work in all pediatric settings including the neonatal intensive care unit. The experience and actions of pRNs are seldom explored, and studies within this area could develop and improve strategies for neonatal resuscitation situations. Purpose: To describe pRNs' experiences and actions during neonatal resuscitation. Methods: A qualitative interview study based on the critical incident technique was performed. Sixteen pRNs from 4 neonatal intensive care units in Sweden were interviewed. Results: Critical situations were divided into 306 experiences and 271 actions. pRNs' experiences were divided into 2 categories: individual- and team-focused experiences. Critical situations were managed by individual- or team-focused actions. Experiences revealed were variation of alarms, psychological impact, parental presence, structured working methods, the team's interactions, professional experience and resource availability, and the impact of the environment. Actions revealed were being prepared, managing the psychological impact, adopting a professional attitude toward parents, working in a structured way, and competence/resource reinforcement. Implications for Practice: Developing a structured role distribution within the neonatal resuscitation program and ensuring clear communication in the team during simulation training and in intense situations can increase pRNs' feeling of safety and allow them to further develop their professional role in neonatal resuscitation situations. Aims: To investigate the relationships and pathways between workplace bullying, workplace spirituality, and job burnout in Chinese paediatric nurses. Design: A cross‐sectional descriptive survey was conducted with paediatric nurses from six tertiary hospitals in Hubei Province, China. Methods: The study consisted of 402 paediatric nurses. The data were collected using a sociodemographic data questionnaire, Negative Acts Questionnaire‐Revised, Maslach Burnout Inventory‐General Survey and Workplace Spirituality Scale. The model was tested using path analysis techniques within structural equation modelling. Results: Workplace bullying had positive and direct effects on the job burnout of paediatric nurses. Workplace spirituality partially mediated the relationship between workplace bullying and burnout. Patient or Public Contribution: Workplace spirituality may reduce the incidence of work bullying and job burnout in paediatric nurses. Nursing managers need to consider and cultivate the workplace spirituality of paediatric nurses, with the aim of creating a healthy working environment and ensuring the stability of the nursing team. Background and Purpose: Thresholds are used by nurses in social emotional screening. A purpose of this study is to examine fluctuation of the threshold pattern in a widely-used instrument, Ages and Stages Questionnaire-Social Emotional, Second Edition (ASQ:SE-2). Methods: Threshold settings are investigated against an irreversible pattern of child growth from research literature. Empirical studies are conducted on an issue of 6,039 missing cases in the ASQ:SE-2 normative sample that undermines data quality for the cutoff score configuration. Results: A Bayesian estimate has been suggested to improve the threshold at age 3 with an asymptotically unbiased cutoff score. Given the coverage of ASQ:SE-2 for children from less than 6 months to 72 months for mental health referrals, this study is particularly relevant to the practice of social emotional screening performed by pediatric nurses, school nurses, and nurse practitioners at mental health hospitals. Conclusion: To address the violation of Classical Test Theory and Item Response Theory in the ASQ:SE-2 threshold settings, consistent statistical imputations are needed to maintain monotonicity of the cutoff score patterns that are aligned with the irreversible trend of child growth, as well as the well-established national standards for missing data examination. Backgrounds: The COVID-19 pandemic has brought an unprecedented healthy crisis to people worldwide. It is crucial to assess the psychological status of non-frontline nurses. More attention to the mental and physical health of non-frontline nurses during a public health emergency is necessary for a full understanding of the implications. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the factors that influence the acute stress reaction of non-frontline pediatric nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This study aimed to explore factors associated with acute stress reactions of non-frontline pediatric nurses in Hunan province during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a cross-sectional design. Five hundred eighteen pediatric nurses from Hunan province, China, completed the Stanford Acute Stress Reaction Questionnaire (SASRQ), Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21), and Job Withdrawal Behavior Scales (JWB). Multiple linear regression analyses and Pearson's correlation were used to analyze the results. Results: The mean scores of DASS-21, JWB, SASRQ were 1.443 ± 0.500, 1.601 ± 0.544, and 1.858 ± 0.805, respectively. Stress, anxiety, depression (three sub-dimensions of DASS-21), JWB, monthly income and department were the major predictive factors for SASRQ (Adjusted R2 = 0.579, p < 0.001). Pearson's correlation showed that the mean score of SASRQ was positively correlated with JWB, DASS-21, and all its dimensions (p < 0.01). Conclusion: The study indicated that the SASRQ was greater with higher levels of DASS-21 and JWB. It revealed an acute stress reaction in non-frontline pediatric nurses and recommends more focus on the factors influencing the SASRQ. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Nurses working in pediatric wards should communicate with children well and have appropriate caring behaviors according to the age of their patients, so distance education is very suitable for them due to its availability. This study aimed to determine the effect of online education on the principles of pediatric nursing care on the caring behaviors of nurses working in pediatric wards. Methods: This interventional (quasi-experimental) study used a simple random method to select 70 nurses working in pediatric wards and pediatric intensive care units in Kerman. The nurses in the intervention group received online training in the sky room three days a week, while nurses in the control group received routine pediatric care. The study instruments were the demographic information questionnaire and the Caring behaviors Questionnaire, which were completed by two groups before and one month after the intervention. Data were analyzed with SPSS 25. The significance level was set at P < 0.05. Results: The independent samples t-test indicated no significant differences in the mean scores of care behaviors between the intervention (256.61 ± 5.16) and control groups (257.52 ± 3.99) before the intervention (P = 0.23) but indicated a significant difference in the mean scores of caring behaviors between the intervention (275.69 ± 6.52) and control groups (254.21 ± 3.15) after the intervention. Therefore, online education increased the score of caring behaviors in the intervention group. Conclusion: Distance education had an impact on the caring behaviors of nurses in pediatric wards and we recommend the use of e-learning to improve the caring behaviors and the quality of care of nurses. Background: This study aims to explore the feelings and experiences of nursing staff when faced with the death of a pediatric patient in the ICU. Methodology: A qualitative study based on hermeneutic phenomenology was conducted through semi-structured interviews. Ten nurses (30% of staff) from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of a referral hospital were interviewed in April 2022. Text transcripts were analysed using latent content analysis. Results: Content analysis indicated that the interviewees had feelings of sadness and grief; they had a misconception of empathy. They had no structured coping strategies, and those they practiced were learned through personal experience, not by specific training; they reported coping strategies such as peer support, physical exercise, or strengthening ties with close family members, especially their children. The lack of skills to cope with the death and the absence of support from personnel management departments were acknowledged. This can lead to the presence of compassion fatigue. Conclusions: The feelings that PICU nurses have when a child they care for die are negative feelings and sadness, and they possess coping strategies focused on emotions learned from their own experience and without institutional training support. Hospital admission can be particularly difficult for children with known behavioral health challenges, such as children on the autism spectrum disorder. Nurses are in an ideal role to ease the burden associated with hospitalization. The aims of this quality improvement (QI) project include creating and implementing an evidencebased visual schedule for use with children who have challenging behaviors, and designing and implementing education for nurses specifically intended to describe evidence behind the use of visual activity schedules (VAS) for children with challenging behaviors. A Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) method was used, and the intervention was evaluated via pre- and post-implementation surveys. The QI project was implemented on a 24-bed acute care unit at a large, tertiary care, Midwestern children's hospital. A sample of 46 nurses received the education, with 23 completing the pre-implementation survey and 6 completing the post-implementation survey. Education was provided through in-person teaching and handouts. Nurses initially had a poor understanding of the use of VAS, which improved following the education. They felt comfortable providing care for children at risk for challenging behaviors and in their knowledge about diagnoses for these patients, which remained unchanged following the educational program. Positive feedback was received following implementation, with nurses noting a greater understanding about VAS for children at risk for challenging behaviors. Objective: This study examined the prevalence and severity of compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue (i.e., burnout and secondary traumatic stress) in registered nurses (RNs) at a pediatric trauma center. Background: Pediatric nurses perform emotionally challenging work that often causes psychological stress and burnout. Methods: A cross-sectional survey on professional quality of life was administered to pediatric nurses. Results: Among survey respondents (n = 696), 76% reported moderate compassion satisfaction; 89.1% reported low burnout; 83.3% reported low secondary traumatic stress. None reported high compassion satisfaction or high compassion fatigue. Predictors of professional quality of life included age, professional experience, and workplace setting (p ≤ 0.05). Compared with work in other units, work in the neonatal intensive care unit was significantly associated with lower levels of compassion satisfaction and higher levels of compassion fatigue. Conclusions: Individual and organizational strategies to promote compassion satisfaction and reduce compassion fatigue in pediatric RNs are needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The aim of this project was to promote evidence-based practices regarding conflict resolution in the hospital setting on a pediatric inpatient unit. Introduction: Conflict is an inevitable reality in healthcare organizations. Evidence suggests that to facilitate constructive conflict resolution among staff, organizational-level education, as well as formal policies and procedures are both necessary. Methods: A baseline audit on conflict resolution utilizing the JBI Practical Application of Clinical Evidence System program was undertaken and involved 34 nurses and two nursing assistants. The implementation project used a three-phase approach, with audits and feedback for the evaluation of compliance with best practices. Following baseline audits, an intervention, including conflict resolution education, was implemented, and recommendations to update the current policy and procedure were communicated to unit leadership. Then a postimplementation audit was undertaken. Results: Postimplementation audits revealed improvements in compliance across all seven audit criteria. The greatest improvement was for audit criterion 4, having a structured formal process for remediation if conflict occurs, and criterion 7, having a follow-up of agreed solutions occur, which garnered 75 and 83% improvements, respectively. Conclusion: For all seven audit criteria, compliance improved from 24% at baseline to 71% after the implementation of an educational module regarding conflict resolution strategies, tools, and best practices and a recommendation to update the existing policy to include the use of a conflict resolution documentation tool. Recommendations for the next steps include making educational materials and visual reminders about conflict resolution strategies readily available and easily accessible to staff. Audiovisual recordings are under-utilized for capturing interactions in inpatient settings. Standardized procedures and methods improve observation and conclusion validity drawn from audiovisual data. This article provides specific approaches for collecting, standardizing, and maintaining audiovisual data based on a study of parent–nurse communication and child and family outcomes. Data were collected using audio and video recorders at defined time points simplifying its collection. Data were downloaded, edited for size and privacy, and securely stored, then transcribed, and subsequently reviewed to ensure accuracy. Positive working relationships with families and nurses facilitated successful study recruitment, data collection, and transcript cleaning. Barriers to recruitment and data collection, such as privacy concerns and technical issues, were successfully overcome. When carefully coordinated and obtained, audiovisual recordings are a rich source of research data. Thoughtful protocol design for the successful capture, storage, and use of recordings enables researchers to take quick action to preserve data integrity when unexpected situations arise. In this essay, we show how an arena is created and how a new field of work for pediatric nursing emerges from it. The situation of pediatric nurses in early childhood intervention in Germany is presented, considering related social worlds and discourses as well as historical, social, and political processes. Based on a study using interview data of pediatric nurses, text documents and field notes, we demonstrate how components of the theory/methods package of situational analysis can be used to analyze the genesis of a specialized professional group in its embeddedness in an arena. In particular, the concepts of social worlds/arenas theory and the concept of processual ordering are applied. Mapping strategies are harnessed to structure discourse material in order to show the positioning of different elements in the arena and to discuss them in their interrelation and against the background of current developments in the nursing profession. Background and objectives: Nosocomial infection is one of the main reasons of mortality and has significant financial costs due to elevated hospitalization and prognosis; thus, they should be prevented and controlled. This study aimed to assess the practice of the nursing staff regarding infection control measures at Raparin Teaching Hospital for Children. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted in Raparin Teaching Hospital for Children in Erbil City, Kurdistan Region/Iraq. A purposive sample involving 81 nurses working in emergency, ICU, NICU, and surgical units at Raparin Teaching Hospital for Children who care for children was selected for the study. The researcher developed a checklist format developed by the researcher for data collection that included three parts: sociodemographic characteristics, vaccination history, and nurses' practice regarding infection control measures. The data were processed and analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 26. Results: Most (77.8%) of the nurses were living in urban areas and they showed fair performance (81%). The results showed that 45.5% of ICU nurses outperformed their counterparts in terms of performance. The results also revealed that the younger nurses were better in terms of performance. Furthermore, the results revealed that 75.3% of the nurses have fair performance, 17.3% have good performance, and 7.4% have poor performance. Conclusion: Based on the overall performance of the nurses, most of the nurses have fair infection control practices, and the minority of them have poor practices. The coronavirus pandemic created an unprecedented deployment of health professionals. The objective of this study was to describe the experiences of pediatric nurses transferred to adult COVID-19 wards during the first wave of the pandemic. We performed a qualitative study using a phenomenological approach. Nurses were recruited on a voluntary basis. All participants moved from a pediatric ward and were redeployed to an adult COVID-19 ward in another hospital. Interviews were carried out face to face in line with social-distancing guidelines. We used a script of open-end questions. The interviews were recorded and transcribed in full and qualitative data were analyzed using NVivo software. In total, 23 nurses were interviewed. Our analysis revealed positive and negative experiences given the different types of support the nurses received, individual attitudes that promoted resilience in a crisis situation, ethical conflicts linked to end-of-life care, and their perspectives on the next wave of the pandemic. The main difficulties encountered by the transferred nurses were related to their working conditions and safety, communication about working practices, and end-of-life patient care. In most cases, the individual resilience strategies put in place and the different forms of social support enabled them to cope with stress and maintain their commitment. However, some interviewees would have benefited from improved managerial support. For all participants, their perception of this support and the benefits of their experience influenced their willingness to be transferred to an adult ward again during a future wave of the pandemic. Objective: To understand the perception of the Nursing team about institutional violence against hospitalized children. Materials and method: A qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study, performed at a large-size public hospital in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, with 17 Nursing professionals working in the Pediatrics unit, to whom semi-structured interviews were applied between March and May 2019. The collected data were categorized in the NVIVO12 software and submitted for content analysis. Results: The results are presented in four categories: The professionals’ lack of knowledge about institutional violence against hospitalized children; Recognition of institutional violence related to problems in the hospital infrastructure, Recognition of institutional violence in interpersonal relationships and Recognition of institutional violence in the care practices. Conclusions: It becomes necessary to apply policies to confront institutional violence, ranging from training the professionals to adapting the spaces and care practices to favor the children’s hospitalization environment. Aims and objectives: To examine if the professional support that fathers received from midwives and child health nurses was associated with improvements in fathers' coparenting. A secondary aim was to investigate if there were any support differences between fathers based on parity. Background: Stronger coparenting is associated with improved maternal, paternal and child health. It is unclear if routine prenatal and postnatal professional support is associated with improved coparenting in fathers of infants. Design: Cross‐sectional online survey. Methods: In total, 612 fathers of infants (aged 0–24 months) completed baseline data between November 2018 and March 2020. Socio‐demographics, pregnancy control variables, social support, professional support, being invited to attend and attending three specific visits for fathers, respectively, and the fathers' coparenting relationship, using the Brief Coparenting Relationship Scale, were assessed. The STROBE checklist was used as the reporting guideline for this study. Results: Fathers' attendance at child health visits, support from the prenatal and postnatal midwife, respectively, and total support from the child health nurse, are associated with more positive coparenting. Primiparous fathers reported more received social and professional support, as well as a more positive coparenting relationship than multiparous fathers. Conclusions: Receiving clinical support from both midwives and child health nurses is associated with fathers' positive coparenting. All fathers should be invited and encouraged to attend prenatal, postnatal and child health visits to further support their coparenting relationship. Relative to primiparous fathers, multiparous fathers may require targeted and additional clinical support regarding their coparenting relationship. Relevance to clinical practice: With fathers becoming more involved in childrearing, having stronger coparenting skills can help them better adapt to their parental roles. Our findings help understand how routine professional support from midwives and child health nurses are experienced among new fathers and that multiparous fathers are in further need of coparenting support. This research aims to analyze and discuss national and international scientific evidence on the importance of nursing care in pediatric cancer treatment. This is an integrative literature review, carried out between the months of May and November 2022. The choice of articles was made through the BVS, Scielo, LILACS and Google Scholar databases, through the Health science descriptors (DeCS): Bone Marrow, Lymphoid Leukemia and Nursing. The 10 studies were grouped into thematic categories: Nursing care for children with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL); Applicability of toy therapy and the participation of animals in the oncological treatment process; Nursing as a fundamental tool in palliative care. It is concluded that the nursing professional has an essential role in assisting children diagnosed with ALL during treatment and in-hospital stay. Care should be carried out through theoretical/practical knowledge, offering psychological support and using humanized practices in conjunction with drug therapy, reducing and relieving pain, minimizing the effects caused by drugs and transforming the treatment that can cause pain and exhaustion, into something fun and reducing exhaustion, thus resulting in the creation of a greater bond between nurse and patient. In this review we present a summary of psychotherapeutic interventions with pediatric persons, general principles and categories of the psychotherapeutic, and psychosocial interventions for various mental disorders. Also, a guide is given on the recommended interventions for specific diagnoses and problem areas in mental illnesses of children and adolescents. Interventions considered include supportive psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, parent management training (PMT), parent-child interaction training (PCIT), behavioral classroom management (BCM), play therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitivebehavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), the early intensive behavioral intervention (EIBI), discrete trial training (DTT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), family-based treatment (FBT)-Maudsley method and group psychotherapy approaches. Aim: This study aims to evaluate demands for general and pharmacological knowledge and training related to intravenous (IV) therapy among pediatric nurses. Materials and Methods: This multicentric cross-sectional study involved 12,707 pediatric nurses from 100 hospitals in China. A questionnaire was used to assess information about IV drug administration training received, and the demands for pharmacology-related knowledge, and corresponding methods of acquisition. A generalized linear model using Logit link function was employed to assess relationships between factors and multivariate analysis was conducted. Results: More than 99% of participants showed their training demands for IV therapy training. Pediatric nurses' demands and methods for acquiring IV therapy knowledge and the knowledge related to IV therapy pharmacology have significant differences in social demographic factors, previous knowledge, whether they have received training or not, and other factors (all P < 0.05). Received a needlestick injury in the past month (P = 0.007) and knowledge acquired through in-hospital or out-of-hospital training (P = 0.039) were factors that reduced the demands for methods to acquire further pharmacology-related knowledge of IV therapy. Working in internal medicine (P = 0.025) and not having experienced a needlestick injury in the past year (P = 0.007) reduced the demands for IV therapy knowledge. Attended hospital (P = 0.007) or departmental meetings (P = 0.009), being pediatric primary nurses (P = 0.044), and studied special IV guidelines (P = 0.006) reduced the desire for methods to acquire IV therapy knowledge. Conclusion: There was a high demand for greater general and pharmacological knowledge related to IV therapy among pediatric nurses. Aim: To describe child health care nurses' experiences of teaching infant massage in parent groups. Design: This was an exploratory‐descriptive qualitative study based on individual interviews. Method: Qualitative semi‐structured interviews were conducted with child health care nurses (N = 9) according to the COREQ guidelines and analyzed with qualitative content analysis. Results: Five categories were identified: (1) Infant massage can promote attachment between parents/guardians and their children; (2) Infant massage can have a calming impact; (3) Stress and lack of time can be challenging; (4) The composition of parent groups can be important and (5) The child health care nurse can observe parents'/guardians' relationships with their children. Child health care nurses are uniquely familiar with infant massage and the benefits it provides both parents/guardians and their infants. Specifically, infant massage has a calming effect that reduces stress and strengthens the relationship between infants and their parents/guardians. Aim: To evaluate knowledge, attitude and implementation of Skin‐to‐Skin Care (SSC) among nurses and to assess the implementation of SSC in the perinatal setting. Design: A cross‐sectional study design was implemented utilizing survey distributed among critical care paediatric and neonatal nurses. Methods: The data collection form was pre‐structured validated tool consisted of two main sections; socio‐demographic characteristics and Likert scale of 20 items covering four main domains in; knowledge, attitude, education and implementation of SSC. Results: The vast majority of the sample 91 (98%) were females with mean age and mean years of experience 33.5 ± 6.5 and 9.7 ± 6.5 years respectively. Almost half of them 45 (48.4%) work in obstetric and labor and delivery units. Correlation coefficient revealed a significant association between the total educational years of nursing degree and SSC. The results showed nurses with bachelor or master significantly more knowledgeable and skilled in implementing SSC compared to others. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Delivering quality health care requires effective communication between health care providers and their patients. Nurse-patient effective communication remains a challenge in Ghana, despite criticism and concern expressed by the public. The study, therefore, aims to assess the effective nurse caregivers’ communication practices among pediatric nurses at Pentecost Hospital, Madina. Methods: A qualitative exploratory and purposive sampling technique were used. Participants were engaged in Focus group discussions or face-to-face interviews. In all, 4 focus group discussions were conducted with 7 participants in each group and 15 face-face in-depth interviews, with a total sample size of 43. The data was content analyzed. Interviews were taped recorded and transcribed verbatim. Results: The data analysis yielded 3 themes and 11 subthemes. The main themes were: effective communication practices, factors influencing effective communication, and attitudes towards effective communication. The study revealed how the participants communicated with patients who are deaf-mute, anxious, and those who refused treatment. In addition, participants reported how they used techniques such as silence, listening, and leading cues in communicating with patients and their relatives. Conclusion: Effective communication between pediatric nurses, patients, and their parents is ascertained to be a key tool in the delivery of quality health care. However, several factors are found to hinder this therapeutic communication. Hence, further studies are needed to improve effective communication skills among pediatric nurses and their patients to enhance health care for children.

Tracheostomized pediatric patients need daily, meticulous care by qualified nurses to minimize severe, avoidable complications. Adequately trained nurses facilitate patients’ stability, accelerate weaning from the ventilator, and reduce potential tracheostomy dislodgement.Methods: A cross-sectional, retrospective cohort survey was conducted in September 2021, using an electronic version of a self-questionnaire, to assess nurses’ knowledge and comfort level regarding tracheostomy care of pediatric patients at the International Extended Care Center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Statistical analysis of the accrued data was performed using the SPSS 21.0 software package and a P-value < 0.05 calculated by t-Test, was considered significant.Results: Among 43 nurses included in the study, 14 (32.6%) were very comfortable taking care of tracheostomized patients, 13 (30.2%) were comfortable, and 16 (37.2%) were uncomfortable. Regarding knowledge, three main aspects of tracheostomy care were correctly answered (%) by all the nurses: knowledge of routine tracheal care (55%), tracheal care skills (11.6%), and tracheal emergency care (2.3%). The study showed a significant positive correlation between nurses’ comfort level with tracheal care and academic degree, duration of pediatric experience, completion of more than one life support course, and attendance at the annual local tracheostomy care competency learning program (TCCLP; all P < 0.05).Conclusion: Deficits exist in nurses’ knowledge of tracheostomy care. Improved knowledge garnered through repetitive participation in tracheostomy competency programs and life support courses correlate with greater comfort and more than 5 years of pediatric experience. Background: This study aimed to evaluate the work engagement status of registered pediatric nurses and its relationship with personal- and work-related variables in selected hospitals. Personal- and work-related factors generally influence work engagement. However, data on work engagement in pediatric clinical practice are limited. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design, including 230 registered nurses working in pediatric units in Madinah, Saudi Arabia. A non-probability approach (convenience sampling) was adopted in recruiting the sample. Eight personal- and work-related variables were examined using the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale shortened 9-item version. Results: The overall mean scale score was 4.54 (standard deviation = 0.95). The dedication subscale showed the highest mean score (4.84), followed by the absorption (4.48) and vigor subscales (4.29). A higher work engagement score was associated with an older age (H = 17.892; p < 0.001), a non-Saudi nationality (Z = 5.724; p < 0.001), a higher educational level (Z = 3.178; p = 0.001), and a long duration of experience (>10 years) (H = 18.435; p < 0.001). No significant differences were observed between the total scale score according to marital status (p = 0.077), current working unit (p = 0.063), and current working hours (p = 0.067). Conclusions: Among registered pediatric nurses, work engagement is relatively high but is average in terms of the vigor component. Aim: To provide an overview of the research philosophies underpinning the mixed methods grounded theory (MM-GT) methodology, illustrate its optimal use and introduce a quality-appraisal tool being developed with reference to extant literature. Discussion: The utility of MM-GT has been effectively demonstrated in the nursing and health literature. Yet, there are examples of how it has been under-used and sub-optimally applied. This article includes a two-phase MM-GT study protocol guided by a pragmatic research philosophy and best practice recommendations that aims to explain neonatal nurses' professional quality of life. Conclusion: Optimal use of MM-GT's five essential components – purposive sampling, constant comparative methods with iterative coding and analysis, theoretical saturation, memoing and theory development – combine to produce high-quality, defensible research outputs and new nursing theory.
