Abstract: We describe a measurement of the direct CP asymmetry between inclusive b-->s gamma and b-->s gamma decays. This asymmetry is expected to be less than 0.01 in the standard model, but could be enhanced up to about 0.10 by new physics contributions. We use a sample of 89 x 10(6) BB pairs recorded with the BABAR detector at SLAC PEP-II, from which we reconstruct a set of 12 exclusive b-->s gamma final states containing one charged or neutral kaon and one to three pions. We measure an asymmetry of A(CP)(b-->s gamma)=0.025+/-0.050(stat)+/-0.015(syst), corresponding to an allowed range of -0.06s gamma)

Abstract: The inclusive B→Xcℓν branching fraction, B cℓν, the Cabibo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element, and other heavy quark parameters were determined from a simultaneous fit moments of the hadronic mass and lepton-energy distributions in semileptonic B-meson decays. Using data recorded with BABAR detector, the values were mesured as function of the lower limit on the lepton energy. The vaues for Bceν were extracted using heavy quark expansions (HQE) to the order of 1÷m b3. The stated errors were referred to the experimental, HQE and additional theoretical uncertainties.

Abstract: Using events in which one of two neutral B mesons from the decay of an Y(4S) resonance is fully reconstructed, we set limits on the difference between the decay rates of the two neutral B mass eigenstates and on CP, T, and CPT violation in B0B̄0 mixing. The reconstructed decays, comprising both CP and flavor eigenstates, are obtained from 88 million Y(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We determine six independent parameters governing oscillations (Δm,ΔΓ/Γ), CPT and CP violation (Re z,Im z), and CP and T violation (Im λCP,|q/p|), where λCP characterizes B0 and B̄0 decays to states of charmonium plus KS0 or KL0. The results are sgn(Re λCP)ΔΓ/ Γ=-0.008±0.037(stat.)±0.018(syst.)[-0.084,0.068], |q/p|=1.029±0.013(stat.)±0.011(syst.)[1.001,1.057], (Re λCP|λCP|)Re z=0.014±0.035(stat.) ±0.034(syst.)[-0.072,0.101], Im z=0.038±0.029(stat.)±0.025 (syst.)[-0.028,0.104]. The values inside square brackets indicate the 90% confidence-level intervals. The values of Im λCP and Δm are consistent with previous analyses and are used as cross checks. These measurements are in agreement with standard model expectations.

Abstract: We study the decays B+ → ηcK+ and B0 → ηcK0, where the ηc is reconstructed in the KS0K ±π∓ and K+K- π0 decay modes. Results are based on a sample of 86 B B̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC e+e- B Factory. We measure the product of branching fractions B(B+ → ηcK+) ×B(ηc→KK̄π)= (7.40±0.50±0.70)×10-5 and B(B 0→ηcK0) ×B(ηc→KK̄π)=(6.48±0.85±0.71) ×10-5, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic, In addition, we search for B → ηcK events with ηc→2(K+K-) and ηc→ φφ and determine the ηc decay branching fraction ratios B(ηc →(K+K-)) /B(ηc→KK̄π)=(2.3±0.7±0.6) ×10-2 and B(ηc→φφ) /B(ηc→KK̄π)=(5.5±1.4±0.5) ×10-2.

Using other measurements and theoretical assumptions we interpret the results in terms of the angles of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle, and find |sin((2beta+gamma)|>0.69 at 68% confidence level. We exclude the hypothesis of no CP violation [sin(2beta+gamma)=0] at 83% confidence level.

Abstract: We present a measurement of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in decays of neutral B mesons to the final states D(*-/+)pi(+/-), using approximately 82x10(6) BBmacr; events recorded by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) storage ring. Events containing these decays are selected with a partial reconstruction technique, in which only the high-momentum pi(+/-) from the B decay and the low-momentum pi(-/+) from the D(*-/+) decay are used. We measure the amplitude of the asymmetry to be -0.063+/-0.024(stat)+/-0.014(syst) and compute bounds on |sin((2beta+gamma)|.

Abstract: We present a measurement of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in decays of neutral B mesons to the final states D(*-/+)pi(+/-), using approximately 82x10(6) BBmacr; events recorded by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) storage ring. Events containing these decays are selected with a partial reconstruction technique, in which only the high-momentum pi(+/-) from the B decay and the low-momentum pi(-/+) from the D(*-/+) decay are used. We measure the amplitude of the asymmetry to be -0.063+/-0.024(stat)+/-0.014(syst) and compute bounds on |sin((2beta+gamma)|.

Abstract: We study B+/ --> J/psi pi(+/-) and B+/ --> J/psi K+/- decays in a sample of about 89 x 10(6) BB pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B factory at SLAC. We observe a signal of 244+/-20 B+/ --> J/psi pi(+/-) events and determine the ratio B(B+/ --> J/psi pi(+/-))/B(B+/ --> J/psi K+/-) to be [5.37+/-0.45(stat)+/-0.11(syst)]%. The charge asymmetries for the B+/ --> J/psi pi(+/-) and B+/ --> J/psi K+/- decays are determined to be A(pi)=0.123+/-0.085(stat)+/-0.004(syst) and A(K)=0.030+/-0.015(stat)+/-0.006(syst), respectively.

Abstract: We have performed a search for the rare leptonic decay B+-->mu(+)nu(mu) with data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II storage ring. In a sample of 88.4 x 10(6) BB pairs, we find no significant evidence for a signal and set an upper limit on the branching fraction B(B+-->my(+)nu(my))< 6.6 x 10(-6) at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the first four moments of the hadronic mass distribution in [Formula Presented] decays. The measurements are based on 89 million [Formula Presented] events where the hadronic decay of one of the B mesons is fully reconstructed and a charged lepton from the decay of the other B meson is identified. The moments are presented for minimum lepton momenta ranging from 0.9 to 1.6 GeV in the B rest frame. It is expected that such measurements will lead to improved determinations of [Formula Presented] and [Formula Presented] © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the inclusive electron energy spectrum for semileptonic decays of B mesons in a data sample of 52 million γ(45)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-meson factory at SLAC. We determine the branching fraction, first, second, and third moments of the spectrum for lower cutoffs on the electron energy between 0.6 and 1.5 GeV. We measure the partial branching fraction to be B(B→Xeν,Ee>0.6 GeV)= [10.36±0. 06(stat.)±0.23(sys.)]%. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a study of B--->D(0)(CP)K- decays, where D(0)(CP) is reconstructed in CP-even channels, based on a sample of 88.8 x 10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) storage ring. We measure the ratio of Cabibbo-suppressed to Cabibbo-favored branching fractions B(B--->D(0)(CP)K-)/B(B--->D(0)(CP)pi(-))=[8.8+/-1.6(stat)+/-0.5(syst)]x10(-2) and the CP asymmetry A(CP)=0.07+/-0.17(stat)+/-0.06(syst). We also measure B(B--->D0K-)/B(B--->D0pi(-))=[8.31+/-0.35(stat)+/-0.20(syst)]x10(-2) using a sample of 61.0 x 10(6) BB pairs.

The results are based on a data sample of approximately 88 x 10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We measure B(B+-->K(0)pi(+))=(22.3+/-1.7+/-1.1)x10(-6), B(B0-->K(0)pi(0)=(11.4+/-1.7+/-0.8)x10(-6), B(B+-->K(0)K+)K(0)K(0)K(0)pi(+))=-0.05+/-0.08+/-0.01 and A(CP)(B0-->K(0)pi(0)=0.03+/-0.36+/-0.11.

Abstract: We present a study of B--->D(0)(CP)K- decays, where D(0)(CP) is reconstructed in CP-even channels, based on a sample of 88.8 x 10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) storage ring. We measure the ratio of Cabibbo-suppressed to Cabibbo-favored branching fractions B(B--->D(0)(CP)K-)/B(B--->D(0)(CP)pi(-))=[8.8+/-1.6(stat)+/-0.5(syst)]x10(-2) and the CP asymmetry A(CP)=0.07+/-0.17(stat)+/-0.06(syst). We also measure B(B--->D0K-)/B(B--->D0pi(-))=[8.31+/-0.35(stat)+/-0.20(syst)]x10(-2) using a sample of 61.0 x 10(6) BB pairs.

Abstract: Using events in which one of two neutral B mesons from the decay of an Upsilon(4S) meson is fully reconstructed, we determine parameters governing decay (DeltaGamma(d)/Gamma(d)), CP, and T violation (|q/p|), and CP and CPT violation (Re z,Im z). The results, obtained from an analysis of 88 x 10(6) Upsilon(4S) decays recorded by BABAR, are sgn(Re lambda(CP))DeltaGamma(d)/Gamma(d)=-0.008+/-0.037(stat)+/-0.018(syst)[-0.084,0.068],|q/p|=1.029+/-0.013(stat)+/-0.011(syst)[1.001,1.057],(Re lambda(CP)/|lambda(CP)|) Re z=0.014+/-0.035(stat)+/-0.034(syst)[-0.072,0.101],Im z=0.038+/-0.029(stat)+/-0.025(syst)[-0.028,0.104]. The values inside the square brackets indicate the 90% confidence-level intervals. These results are consistent with standard model expectations.

With a sample of approximately 2500 reconstructed eta(c)-->K(0)(S)K+/-pi(-/+) decays in 88 fb(-1) of data, the results are m(eta(c))=2982.5+/-1.1(stat)+/-0.9(syst) MeV/c(2) and Gamma(eta(c))(tot)=34.3+/-2.3(stat)+/-0.9(syst) MeV/c(2). Using the same decay mode, a second resonance with 112+/-24 events is observed with a mass of 3630.8+/-3.4(stat)+/-1.0(syst) MeV/c(2) and width of 17.0+/-8.3(stat)+/-2.5(syst) MeV/c(2). This observation is consistent with expectations for the eta(c)(2S) state.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B ±→χc0K± sample of 89×106 BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. The χc0 meson is reconstructed through its two-body decays toπ+ π- and K+K-. We measure B(B± → χc0K±) ×Β(χ c0→π+π-) = [1.32-027+0.28(stat)±0.26(syst)] × 10-6 and B(B ±→ χc0K±) × B(χc0 →K+K-) = [1.49 -0.34+0.36(stat) ±0.22(syst)] × 10 -6. Using the known values for the χc0 decays branching fractions, we combine these results to obtain Β(B ± →χc0K±) = (2.7±0.7)× 10-4. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the production ratio of charged and neutral B mesons from Υ(4S) decays based on the ratio of efficiency-corrected yields for the charmonium modes J/ψK+ and J/ψKs0 with 81.9 fb-1 of data collected with the BABAR detector on the Υ(4S) resonance at 10.580 GeV. We find a value of 1.006 ±0.036(stat)±0.031(syst) for the ratio R+/0= Γ(Υ(4S) → B+B-)/Γ(Υ(4S)→ B0B̄0). © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the average multiplicity of φ mesons in [Formula Presented] [Formula Presented] and [Formula Presented] meson decays. Using 17.6 [Formula Presented] of data taken at the [Formula Presented] resonance by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II [Formula Presented] storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, we reconstruct φ mesons in the [Formula Presented] decay mode and measure [Formula Presented] This is significantly more precise than any previous measurement. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: A search for the lepton-flavor-violating decay of the tau into three charged leptons has been performed using 91.5 fb(-1) of data collected at an e(+)e(-)center-of-mass energy around 10.58 GeV with the BABAR detector at the SLAC storage ring PEP-II. In all six decay modes considered, the numbers of events found in data are compatible with the background expectations. Upper limits on the branching fractions are set in the range (1-3)x10(-7) at 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the CP-violation parameter sin 2β with B0J/ψKS0 decays in which the J/ψ decays to hadrons or to muons that do not satisfy our standard identification criteria. With a sample of 88 million BB̄ events collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC, we reconstruct 100±17 such events, with J/ψ→π-π -π0 being the most prevalent, and measure sin2β=1.56± 0.42(stat)±0.21(syst). © 2004 The American Physical Society.

The data sample corresponds to 89x10(6) BB pairs produced from e(+)e(-) annihilation at the Upsilon(4S) resonance. We measure the following branching fractions in units of 10(-6): B(B+-->eta pi(+))=5.3+/-1.0+/-0.3, B(B+-->eta K+)=3.4+/-0.8+/-0.2, B(B0-->eta K0)=2.9+/-1.0+/-0.2 (eta(')pi(+))=2.7+/-1.2+/-0.3 (omega pi(+))=5.5+/-0.9+/-0.5, B(B+-->omega K+)=4.8+/-0.8+/-0.4, and B(B0-->omega K0)=5.9(+1.6)(-1.3)+/-0.5. The charge asymmetries are A(ch)(B+-->eta pi(+))=-0.44+/-0.18+/-0.01, A(ch)(B+-->eta K+)=-0.52+/-0.24+/-0.01, A(ch)(B+-->omega pi(+))=0.03+/-0.16+/-0.01, and A(ch)(B+-->omega K+)=-0.09+/-0.17+/-0.01.

Abstract: Using a sample of 88.8×106 BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, we measure the branching fractions of seven color-suppressed B-meson decays: β(B̄0→D0π0) = [2.9±0.2(stat)±0.3(syst)]× 10-4, β(B̄0→D*0π0) = [2.9±0.4(stat)±0.5(syst)] × 10-4, β(B̄0→D0η) = [2.5±0.2(stat) ±0.3(syst)]×10-4, β(B̄0→D *0η = [2.6±0.4(stat)δ0.4(syst)] ×10 -4, β(B̄0→D0ω) = [3.0±0.3(stat)±0.4(syst)]× 10-4, β(B̄0→D*0ω) = [4.2±0.7(stat)±0.9(syst)] ×10-4, and β(B̄→D0η′) = [ 1.7±0.4(stat) ±0.2(syst)]× 10-4. We set the 90% confidence-level upper limit: β(B̄0→D*0η′)

Abstract: We have observed the rare decay B0 → ρ+ ρ- in a sample of 89 million BB̄ pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. The number of observed events is 88-21+23±9 with a significance of 5.1 standard deviations with systematic uncertainties included. The branching fraction and the longitudinal polarization are measured to be β(B0 → ρ+ ρ-) = (25-6-6+7+5× 10-6 and ΓLΓ = 0.98-0.08+0.02±0. 03, respectively. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: A narrow state, which we label DsJ(2458)+, with a mass 2458.0 ± 1.0 (stat) ± 1.0 (syst) MeV/c2, is observed in the inclusive Ds+ π0γ mass distribution in 91 fb-1 of e+e- annihilation data recorded by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e +e- storage ring. The observed width is consistent with the experimental resolution. The data favor decay through D* s(2112) + π0 rather than through D*sJ(2317) + γ. An analysis of D s+ π0 data accounting for the influence of the DsJ(2458)+ produces a D*sJ(2317) + mass of 2317.3±0.4 (stat)±0.8 (syst) MeV/c 2. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We have studied the process e+e -→μ+μ-γ at a center-of-mass energy near the γ(4S) resonance for a μ+μ- invariant mass range near the J/Ψ mass and measured the cross section σ(e+e-→J/Ψ γt →μ +μ-γ). The data set, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 88.4 fb-1, was collected using the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II collider. From the measured cross section we extract the product Γ(J/Ψ→e+e-)B(J/ Ψ→μ+μ-) = 0.330±0.008±0.007 keV. Using the world averages for B(J/Ψ →μ+μ - and B(J/Ψ→e+e-), we derive the J/Ψ electronic and total widths: Γ(J/Ψ→e+e -) = 5.61 ±0.20 keV and Γ = 94.7 ± 4.4 keV. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present measurements of branching fractions in the b→ss̄s penguin-dominated decays B+→φK+ and B 0φK0 in a sample of approximately 89 million BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-meson factory at SLAC. We determine B(B+→φK+) = (10.0-08+09±0.5)×10-6 and B(B 0→φK0) = (8.4-13+15± 0.5)×10-6. Additionally, we measure the CP-violating charge asymmetry ACP(B±→φK±) = 0.04±0.09±0.01, with a 90% confidence-level interval of [-0.10,0.18], and set an upper limit on the CKM- and color-suppressed decay B+→φπ+, B(B+→φπ +)

Abstract: We report on the inclusive branching fractions of B- and of B̄0 mesons decaying to D0X, D̄0X, D+X, D-X, Ds+X, Ds-X, Λc+X, Λc-X, based on a sample of 88.9 × 106 BB̄ events recorded with the BABAR detector at the Υ (4S) resonance. Events are selected by completely reconstructing one B and searching for a reconstructed charmed particle in the rest of the event. We measure the number of charmed and of anticharmed particles per B decay and derive the total charm yield per B - decay nc- = 1.313 ± 0.037 ± 0.062-0.042+0.063 and per B̄0 decay n c0 = 1.276 ± 0.062 ± 0.058 -0.046+0.066, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third reflects the charm branching-fraction uncertainties.

Abstract: Using a sample of 88.8×106 BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, we measure the branching fractions of seven color-suppressed B-meson decays: β(B̄0→D0π0) = [2.9±0.2(stat)±0.3(syst)]× 10-4, β(B̄0→D*0π0) = [2.9±0.4(stat)±0.5(syst)] × 10-4, β(B̄0→D0η) = [2.5±0.2(stat) ±0.3(syst)]×10-4, β(B̄0→D *0η = [2.6±0.4(stat)δ0.4(syst)] ×10 -4, β(B̄0→D0ω) = [3.0±0.3(stat)±0.4(syst)]× 10-4, β(B̄0→D*0ω) = [4.2±0.7(stat)±0.9(syst)] ×10-4, and β(B̄→D0η′) = [ 1.7±0.4(stat) ±0.2(syst)]× 10-4. Abstract: We have studied the process e+e -→μ+μ-γ at a center-of-mass energy near the γ(4S) resonance for a μ+μ- invariant mass range near the J/Ψ mass and measured the cross section σ(e+e-→J/Ψ γt →μ +μ-γ). The data set, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 88.4 fb-1, was collected using the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II collider. From the measured cross section we extract the product Γ(J/Ψ→e+e-)B(J/ Ψ→μ+μ-) = 0.330±0.008±0.007 keV. Using the world averages for B(J/Ψ →μ+μ - and B(J/Ψ→e+e-), we derive the J/Ψ electronic and total widths: Γ(J/Ψ→e+e -) = 5.61 ±0.20 keV and Γ = 94.7 ± 4.4 keV. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: The process e+ e- → π+ π- π0 γ has been studied at a center-of-mass energy near the Y(4S) resonance using a 89.3 fb-1 data sample collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. From the measured 3π mass spectrum we have obtained the products of branching fractions for the ω and φ mesons, B(ω → e+ e-) B(ω → 3π) = (6.70 ± 0.06 ± 0.27) × 10 -5 and B(φ → e+e-)B(φ → 3π) = (4.30 ± 0.08 ± 0.21) × 10-5 and evaluated the e+ e- → π+ π- π0 cross section for the e+ e - center-of-mass energy range 1.05 to 3.00 GeV. About 900 e + e- → J/ψγ → π+ π- π0 γ events have been selected and the branching fraction B(J/ψ → π+ π- π0) = (2.18 ± 0.19)% has been measured.

Abstract: We study the decays B+ → ηcK+ and B0 → ηcK0, where the ηc is reconstructed in the KS0K ±π∓ and K+K- π0 decay modes. Results are based on a sample of 86 B B̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC e+e- B Factory. We measure the product of branching fractions B(B+ → ηcK+) ×B(ηc→KK̄π)= (7.40±0.50±0.70)×10-5 and B(B 0→ηcK0) ×B(ηc→KK̄π)=(6.48±0.85±0.71) ×10-5, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic, In addition, we search for B → ηcK events with ηc→2(K+K-) and ηc→ φφ and determine the ηc decay branching fraction ratios B(ηc →(K+K-)) /B(ηc→KK̄π)=(2.3±0.7±0.6) ×10-2 and B(ηc→φφ) /B(ηc→KK̄π)=(5.5±1.4±0.5) ×10-2.

Abstract: We have investigated the exclusive, radiative B meson decays to K 2*(1430) in 89 × 106 BB̄ events with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring. We measure the branching fractions B(B0 → K2*(1430)0γ) = (1.22 ± 0.25 ± 0.10) × 10-5 and B(B+ → K2*(1430)+γ) = (1.45 ± 0.40 ± 0.15) × 10-5, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. In addition, we measure the CP-violating asymmetry A CP[B0 → K2*(1430) 0γ] = -0.08 ± 0.15 ± 0.01.

Abstract: We present results of searches for 5-meson decays to K+π -π+ with the BABAR detector. With a data sample of 61.6 × 106 BB̄ pairs, we measure the branching fractions and 90% confidence-level upper limits averaged over charge-conjugate states (the first error is statistical and the second is systematic): B[B+ → K*0(892)π+] = (15.5 ± 1.8 -4.0+1.5) × 10-6, B[B+ → f0(980)K+, f0 → π+π -] = (9.2 ± 1.2-2.6+2.1) × 10 -6, B[B+ → D̄0π+, D̄0 → K+π-] = (184.6 ± 3.2 ± 9.7) × 10-6, B[B+ → ρ0(770)K+] < 6.2 × 10-6 and B[B+ → K+π-π+ nonresonant] < 17 × 10-6.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the production ratio of charged and neutral B mesons from Υ(4S) decays based on the ratio of efficiency-corrected yields for the charmonium modes J/ψK+ and J/ψKs0 with 81.9 fb-1 of data collected with the BABAR detector on the Υ(4S) resonance at 10.580 GeV. We find a value of 1.006 ±0.036(stat)±0.031(syst) for the ratio R+/0= Γ(Υ(4S) → B+B-)/Γ(Υ(4S)→ B0B̄0). © 2004 The American Physical Society.
