212. The mandibular lingual foramen: a consistent arterial foramen in the middle of the mandible

Abstract

The lingual foramen in the midline of the mandible causes confusion in terminology, incidence of occurrence and contents. A survey of 314 dried mandibles showed the foramen to be present in 311 specimens (99.04%). Sectioning of cadaver specimens illustrated a canal traversing the bone to approximately 50% of the buccolingual dimension of the mandible. The contents of the foramen were found to be an artery, which was an anastomosis of the sublingual branches of the right and left lingual arteries. Wire markers were placed in the foramen and the genial tubercles were covered with lead foil to illustrate the radiographic relationship between them. The radio-opacity peripheral to the foramen as seen on a radiograph is produced by the wall of the canal and not the genial tubercles as previously reported. While the foramen is not seen on many radiographs of the lower incisor region, this can be accounted for by a change in orientation of the x-ray beam. A pilot study revealed an incidence of 49% of the lingual foramen on periapical radiographs of the mandibular incisor region in an adult population, the previous reported incidence being 28%.

Abstract

Introduction: The goal of this research was to assess the stress factors among the elderly living in nursing homes (Eram and Mother) in Kermanshah, in 2015. Research method:This was a descriptive - cross analysis and was performed in the first half of 2015 in a sectional way. The statistical population included 150 elderly men and women aged 60 to 74, and the sample size was selected from 108 people using the Cochran formula. A standard questionnaire was used to collect data from a previously validated survey. Finally, a total of 100 questionnaires were filled in and data were analyzed by using Amos 21 and SPSS 21 software. Results: The results revealed that the dimension of the physiological problems had the highest average and variance of 5.36 ± 21.02 and Disappointment, Home empty, Disability and independence, Relationship problems, Seclusion with an average and variance of 3.12 ± 20.55, 5.29 ± 18.82, 4.54 ± 17.72, 3.59 ± 16.66 and 4.55 ± 16.41, had the largest average and variance. Conclusion: Given that the greater number of elderly live with the family in Kermanshah and have sufficient support, recommended that the government planned to reduce isolation and increase the social support for this group of elderly nursing. Abstract

In the present study, an analytical model for axisymmetric axial crushing of thin-walled frusta tubes containing annular grooves is presented. In this innovative geometrical design model, to encourage axisymmetric collapsing mode, circumferential grooves are cut from the outer and inner surfaces of frusta at determined intervals. Theoretical formulations are presented for predicting the energy absorption and mean crushing load. In order to verify these analytical results, quasi-static compression tests are performed. The results of this research indicate good agreement between the theory and experimental findings. The proposed method could be a good candidate as a controllable shock absorber in impact applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Background and Objectives The evaluation of the number, potential, and functional capacity of cord blood stem cells after long term storage is essential for their therapeutic uses in hematological malignancies and nonmalignancies. Therefore, this study was aimed to assess the quality of cord blood units stored in Royan public cord blood bank, before and after cryopreservation. Materials and Methods To check the quality of cryopreserverd cord blood units, the total number of cells, percentage of viable cells, colony-forming ability, the number of CD34+ cells before and after freezing were examined on 50 samples Results Our results determined that the mean value of the total nucleated cells in 50 cord blood samples was 7.6 × 108 ± 1.12 × 108. The number and viability of mononuclear cells as well as colony forming potential significantly decreased after cryopreservation; however, the count of viable CD34+ cells did not significant changes post thawing. There was no significant correlation between the numbers of nucleated cells and CD34+ cells. Conclusions Increasing the storage time significantly reduces the number of nucleated cells and differentiation potential of hematopoietic stem cells rather than the number of CD34+ cells. Improved cryopreservation techniques are necessary to maintain the function of cord blood stem cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

241. Bactericide ATM's keyboard intelligent systems.

Abstract

Background and aims: Contamination from the ATM's keyboards and very much users of them cause the bacterial transfer to human. So, destroying these bacteria has an important role in human health. The aim of the present study was to introduce an intelligent system which can reduce bacterial contamination from the ATM's keyboards. Methods: In this experimental study, a prototype of an intelligent system was made based on the bactericide effect of the ultra violet (UV)-ray. Before assessing this intelligent system, a sampling of ATM keyboard performed and the number of Escherichia coli bacteria considered for control group. The ability of the system was examined in order to test whether it works based on the number of referrers, and automatic UV-radiation (cut-of DUf). In addition, after UV-radiation for 5-20sec from 10cm, to an Escherichia coli infected ATM keyboard; a seri of bacteriological experiments were performed. Results: The examination of different functions showed that UV-radiation (cut-of DUf) is performing based on identified cases for it automatically. The bacteriological experiments revealed that the system reduced the percentage of the bacteria to less than 1%. Significant differences were found comparing the survived bacteria with the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: One of the conventional methods for cleaning the contamination of the ATM's keyboards is using antibacterial materials, which is an expensive procedure.
