The rapid growth in communication technology facilitates the health industry in many aspects from transmission of sensor’s data to real-time diagnosis using cloud-based frameworks. However, the secure transmission of data and its authenticity become a challenging task, especially, for health-related applications. The medical information must be accessible to only the relevant healthcare staff to avoid any unfortunate circumstances for the patient as well as for the healthcare providers. Therefore, a method to protect the identity of a patient and authentication of transmitted data is proposed in this study. The proposed method provides dual protection. First, it encrypts the identity using Shamir’s secret sharing scheme without the increase in dimension of the original identity. Second, the identity is watermarked using zero-watermarking to avoid any distortion into the host signal. The experimental results show that the proposed method encrypts, embeds and extracts identities reliably. Moreover, in case of malicious attack, the method distorts the embedded identity which provides a clear indication of fabrication. An automatic disorder detection system using Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients and Gaussian mixture model is also implemented which concludes that malicious attacks greatly impact on the accurate diagnosis of disorders.

Education is an important pillar for the development of any society. Generally, school enrollment in developing countries is observed very low compared to the developed countries and the situation is further worsened by the high dropout rate. The current study investigates the major factors responsible for high dropouts in Islamabad, Pakistan, particularly in rural areas. For this purpose, the primary data have been obtained through a detailed questionnaire collecting information on child socioeconomic, household, cultural, and other characteristics. For modeling purposes, Probit model is used to investigate the effects of various factors on high child dropout rate. The results revealed that besides the distance from school to home, financial constraints are the most important reason for dropping out. Moreover, the education of father, age of the child and the gender of the child are also highly significant variables that determine the probability of a child dropout.

The present investigation concentrates on three dimensional unsteady forced bio-convection flow of a viscous fluid. An incompressible flow of a micropolar nanofluid encloses micro-organisms past an exponentially stretching sheet with magnetic field is analyzed. By employing convenient transformation the partial differential equations are converted into the ordinary differential equations which are non-linear. By using shooting method to solved these equations numerically. The influence of the determining parameters on the velocity, temperature, micro-rotation, nanoparticle volume fraction, microorganism are incorporated. The skin friction, heat transfer rate, and the microorganism rate are analyzed. The results depicts that the value of the wall shear stress and Nusselt number are declined while an enhancement take place in the microorganism number. The slip parameters increases the velocity, thermal energy, and microorganism number consequentially. The present investigation are important in improving achievement of microbial fuel cells. Obesity is the fifth primary hazard for mortality in the world; hence different therapeutic targets are explored to overcome this problem. Endocannabinoid is identified as the emerging target for the treatment of obesity as Cannabinoid 1 (CB1) receptor over-activation resulted in abdominal obesity. Potent antagonists or inverse agonists for CB1 receptor are the new strategies to develop anti-obesity drugs. Here, ligand-based 3D-QSAR studies was performed on 100 analogues belonging to a class of 1,2,4-tirazole containing diarylpyrazolylcarboxamide as CB1 receptor antagonists. We developed three CoMFA models using different charge schemes, AM1BCC, Gasteiger-Huckle and MMFF. These models produced almost similar statistical results (q2cv = 0.725, 0.692, 0.719 and r2ncv = 0.929, 0.924, 0.928 for AM1BCC, Gasteiger-Huckle and MMFF, respectively). The said models were validated through 20 external test set compounds which resulted in significant r2pred values (r2pred = 0.747, 0.743 and 0.745 for AM1BCC, Gasteiger-Huckle and MMFF, respectively). Comparatively, AM1BCC model provided slightly better statistics among all three tested charges scheme models, hence AM1BCC model was further utilized to generate CoMSIA models considering different field combinations. The best selected CoMSIA model also produced substantial q2cv = 0.788, r2ncv = 0.916 and r2pred = 0.836 values. Furthermore, two new molecules were designed by modifying the same scaffolds on the basis contour map analysis. The activities of newly designed molecules were predicted through obtained CoMFA model ranked as better than their parent molecules. Moreover, these newly designed compounds were successfully docked on the complex crystal structure of CB1 receptor (PDB ID: 5XRA). The docked conformation of these newly designed inhibitor interacted with Ser173, His178, Lys192, Thr197 and Ser383 mainly by hydrophobic and pi-pi stacking interactions. The obtained results signify the potential of the developed model; suggesting that the models can be useful to test and design potent novel CB1 receptor antagonists or inverse agonists prior to the synthesis.

National parks have been observed to have lots of socio-economic advantages on the livelihood of host communities. The study examined the impact of Saiful Malook national park on the economy and livelihood of the people of Naran and Kaghan Communities in Pakistan. Primary and secondary sources of data were employed for the study. The study revealed that there is a significant difference in the number of indigenous and non-indigenous people involved in ecotourism activities in the area. The study also observed that 33% and 28% of the entire visitors to the park got information about the park and its facilities through the social media and friends and family members and these were the strongest medium of awareness of the national park. The study result also revealed that indigenous people enjoyed more of the accruing benefits from the park than non-indigenous people. It was also observed that although the national park attracts lots of benefits to the host communities such as the provision of employment opportunities, improved family and individual income, there were also observed challenges such as seasonality of tourism activities in the park and changes in the cultural values of the local people. Based on these findings, the study recommended that government and the management of the park should use all available medium of communication to advertise and market the park facilities and products to improve the number of visitors to the park and its patronage.

The success of Wikipedia is due to the large number of volunteers collaborating to provide content to Wikipedia articles. In this paper, we study the effect of network position on the promotion of an article to a featured article. We focus on the edits of featured Wikipedia articles to study the effects of the centrality of editors and centrality of articles on the promotion of featured articles. Considering the editing precedence among editors within an article, editor collaboration networks for a single article are generated using the total English-written featured articles on Wikipedia. In addition, based on the affiliation network of editors and articles, an article-to-article network and an editor-to-editor collaboration network are constructed. Based on the investigation of the networks, we find that article centrality in an article-to-article network has a negative effect on the promotion of an article, and editor centrality in an article-to-article networks has a positive effect on promotion. In addition, editor centrality in an editor-to-editor network has a negative effect on promotion. Some theoretical and managerial implications are provided in view of these results.

The maximum quantum yield of photosystem II (as reflected by variable to maximum chlorophyll a fluorescence, Fv /Fm ) is regarded as one of the most important photosynthetic parameters. The genetic basis underlying natural variation in Fv /Fm , which shows low level of variations in plants under non-stress conditions, is not easy to be exploited using the conventional gene cloning approaches. Thus, in order to answer this question, we have followed another strategy: we used genome-wide association study (GWAS) and transgenic analysis in a rice mini-core collection. We report here that four single-nucleotide polymorphisms, located in the promoter region of β-glucosidase 5 (BGlu-5), are associated with observed variation in Fv /Fm . Indeed, our transgenic analysis showed a good correlation between BGlu-5 and Fv /Fm . Thus, our work demonstrates the feasibility of using GWAS to study natural variation in Fv /Fm , suggesting that cis-element polymorphism, affecting the BGlu-5 expression level, may, indirectly, contribute to Fv /Fm variation in rice through the gibberellin signaling pathway. Further research is needed to understand the mechanism of our novel observation.

We present a new scheme to report on Goos–Hanchen (GH) shift experienced by the Gaussian light beam interacting with an optical cavity filled with four-level sodium atomic medium in the spectral hole burning region with and without Doppler broadening effect. Theoretical atomic density-matrix formalism is employed to obtain the susceptibility of atomic medium while the stationary-phase-theory is used to compute the GH shift in the reflected and transmitted probe beams subjected to control fields. A steep normal slope of dispersion is observed with a maximum and zero probability of transmission and reflection coefficients, respectively, at the regions of the spectral holes burning. In the normal dispersion spectrum at the region of spectral hole burning, positive and negative GH shift is observed, respectively, in the transmitted and reflected light beams. However, at anomalous dispersive regions negative GH shift in the transmission beam and positive GH shift in the reflection beam is observed. The reflection and transmission coefficients as well as the spatial GH shift are the functions of probe detuning, collective phase of control fields, beam incident angle and inverse Doppler broadening effect in the spectral hole burning region. The position and number of spectral holes also depend on the same spectral parametrs as stated above. The study is expected to be useful for optoelectronic devices and optical-clocking applications.

Global adoption of digital technology is greatly informing the redesign of airports, aiming to increase efficiency, hospitality, and experience. Airports are transitioning away from traditional typologies of transit hubs and transforming into destinations that offer everything in one place, from retail to dining to entertainment [1]. By examining the socio-cultural, technological, and design shifts as presented by contemporary airports, the current applications of artificial intelligence, biometrics, and personalization and the impacts of digital technology and architectural design as it relates to the overall user experience and transformation of airport typologies is explored. The ways travelers maximize their time while in transit at airports in order to reduce stress and anxiety related to air travel and how operators can create a more sustainable and adaptable workflows are all considerations and strategies that can empower a partnership between architects, airport operators and the public in the planning and development of airport spaces.

Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) are essential devices used for the efficient performance of modern power systems and many developing countries lack these devices. Due to the non-existence of these advanced technologies, the national grid remains weak and vulnerable to power stability issues that can jeopardize system stability. This study proposes novel research to solve issues of an evolving national grid through the installation of FACTS devices. FACTS devices play a crucial role in minimizing active power losses while managing reactive power flows to keep the voltages within their respective limits. Due to the high costs of FACTS, optimization must be done to discover optimal locations as well as ratings of these devices. However, due to the nonlinearity, it is a challenging task to find the optimal locations and appropriate sizes of these devices. Shunt VARs Compensators (SVCs) and Thyristor-Controlled Series Compensators (TCSCs) are the two FACTS devices considered for the study. Optimal locations for SVCs and TCSCs are determined by Voltage Collapse Proximity Index (VCPI) and Line Stability Index (Lmn), respectively. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is employed to find the ideal rating for FACTS devices to minimize the system operating cost (cost due to active power loss and capital cost of FACTS devices). This technique is applied to IEEE (14 and 30) bus systems. Moreover, reliable operation of the electricity grid through the placement of FACTS for developing countries has also been analysed; Pakistan being a developing country has been selected as a case study. The planning problem has been solved for the present as well as for the forecasted power system. Consequently, in the current national network, 6.21% and 6.71% reduction in active and reactive power losses have been observed, respectively. Moreover, voltage profiles have been improved significantly. A detailed financial analysis covering the calculation of Operation Cost (OC) of the national grid before and after the placement of FACTS devices is carried out.

Big data analytics (BDA) is a revolutionary approach for sound decision-making in organizations that can lead to remarkable changes in transforming and supporting the circular economy (CE). However, extant literature on BDA capability has paid limited attention to understanding the enabling role of data-driven insights for supporting decision-making and, consequently, enhancing CE performance. We argue that firms drive decision-making quality through data-driven insights, business intelligence and analytics (BI&A), and BDA capability. In this study, we empirically investigated the association of BDA capability with CE performance and examined the mediating role of data-driven insights in the relationship between BDA capability and decision-making. Data were collected from 109 Czech manufacturing firms, and partial least squares structural equation modeling was applied to analyze the data. The results reveal that BDA capability and BI&A are positively associated with decision-making quality. This effect is stronger when the manufacturer utilizes data-driven insights. The results demonstrate that BDA capability drives decision-making quality in organizations, and data-driven insights do not mediate this relationship. BI&A is associated with decision-making quality through data-driven insights. These findings offer important insights to managers, as they can act as a reference point for developing data-driven insights with the CE paradigm in organizations. Post-print / Final draft

Wind power penetration is rising at a rapid pace in the modern era. As the penetration level becomes higher, numerous challenges appear regarding the impacts it has on the power system especially the transmission network. The evaluation of these impacts is beneficial for power system operation and planning. Power system operators throughout this era have developed numerous formulations and strategies to capture the impacts of the integration of wind power technologies. In this paper, various impacts of high penetration of wind power on the transmission network have been studied and an overview of problems concerning large-scale integration of wind farms is presented. A single period AC Optimal Power Flow (AC OPF) is performed in MATPOWER on modified IEEE-118 bus system under different wind penetration levels to analyze the impacts on voltage profile, transmission congestion, locational marginal prices (LMPs), transmission losses, and generation cost of the system. The AC OPF formulation is described and simulation results from MATPOWER are also presented and discussed.

This article examines the effect of Audit Committee characteristics such as Independence, Expertise, Size and Diligence on Earnings Management in the light of the recent past (2017) amendment in the Code of Corporate Governance in Pakistan. The study has taken a sample of 172 non-financial companies from Pakistan Stock Exchange to checks the amendment’s impact on the Audit Committee composition. This study is covering 860 firm years’ observations from 2013 to 2017. Pearson Correlation, Descriptive statisitcs and Random Effect Regression were employed to estimate the results.The study findings reveal that among Audit Commitee attributes, expertise in Audit Commitee is negative coefficients with both the proxies of Earning Mangement, Moreover, the coefficient values -0.171 are significantly negative with 1% in Jones (1991) model and -0.193 in Modified Jones (1995) Model, which indicates that a one percent increase in Audit Commitee expertise will reduce Earning Management by 17 to 19 percent. On the other hand, Independence, Size and Activity are not significantly related to the proxy of Earnings Management. The literature on Audit Committee attributes and Earnings Management is scarce, particularly in Pakistan; therefore, this paper adds its part in corporate governance literature on Pakistani perceptive and shows the importance of Audit Committee attributes in monitoring income manipulation. Lastly, the outcomes of this paper can be of particular interest to the developing countries’ monitoring authorities and policymakers to ensure the independence and expertise of the Audit Committee. &nbsp

This study was conducted to estimate the diversity and the occurrence of commercially important finfish species collected by twenty fish sampling site of Sindh and Baluchistan coasts of the Arabian Sea in Pakistan from January to December 2019. Additionally, physicochemical characteristics of seawater were analyzed from these selected sites and found to be within suitable ranges required for fish growth and survive. A total of 81287 fish individuals were collected and identified as 49 species belonging to 26 families in our study. The most diversified family was Sparidae (13 species) followed by Carangidae and Lutjanidae (4 species), Mullidae, Serranidae, Ariidae (3 species), and Sciaenidae (2 species). The remaining 20 families were represented by only one species. The values of Shannon diversity index calculated for the four selected habitats revealed that high fish diversity was reported at Sonmiani Coast (H'=1.81), while less at Ormara Coast (H'=0.23). Likewise, Evenness index (E) was high at Sonmiani Coast (E=0.50) and less fish diversity was reported at Ormara Coast (E=0.06). Reducing risks to threatened marine species in coastal habitats also requires conservation actions at multiple scales. Thus, it was concluded that our study could be valuable in providing the more information’s regarding to the diversity of finfish species and their occurrence along the Pakistan Coast. Further, to better understand the effects, regular monitoring and conservation measures should be taken to mitigate the influence of anthropogenic activities and protect finfish diversity from further decline Resumo Este estudo foi conduzido para estimar a diversidade e a ocorrência de espécies de peixes comercialmente importantes coletadas por vinte locais de amostragem de peixes nas costas de Sindh e Baluchistão do mar da Arábia, no Paquistão, de janeiro a dezembro de 2019. Além disso, as características físico-químicas da água do mar foram analisadas a partir desses peixes locais selecionados e considerados dentro dos intervalos adequados necessários para o crescimento e sobrevivência dos peixes. Um total de 8.1287 indivíduos de peixes foi coletado e identificado como 49 espécies pertencentes a 26 famílias em nosso estudo. A família mais diversificada foi Sparidae (13 espécies), seguida por Carangidae e Lutjanidae (4 espécies), Mullidae, Serranidae, Ariidae (3 espécies) e Sciaenidae (2 espécies). As 20 famílias restantes foram representadas por apenas uma espécie. Os valores do índice de diversidade de Shannon calculados para os quatro habitats selecionados revelaram que uma alta diversidade de peixes foi relatada na costa Sonmiani (H' = 1,81), enquanto menos na costa Ormara (H' = 0,23). Da mesma forma, o índice de regularidade (E) foi alto na costa de Sonmiani (E = 0,50) e menos diversidade de peixes foi relatada na costa de Ormara (E = 0,06). A redução dos riscos para as espécies marinhas ameaçadas em habitats costeiros também requer ações de conservação em várias escalas. Assim, concluiu-se que nosso estudo pode ser valioso para fornecer mais informações sobre a diversidade de espécies de peixes finos e sua ocorrência ao longo da costa do Paquistão. Além disso, para compreender melhor os efeitos, medidas regulares de monitoramento e conservação devem ser tomadas para mitigar a influência das atividades antropogênicas e proteger a diversidade de peixes finos de um declínio maior.

This paper is introducing a new concept of triangular linear Diophantine fuzzy numbers (TLDFNs) in a generic way. We first introduce the concept of TLDFNs and then study the arithmetic operations on these numbers. We find a method for the ranking of these TLDFNs. At the end, we formulate the linear and quadratic equations of the types A + X = B , A · X + B = C , and A · X 2 + B · X + C = D where the elements A , B , C , and D are TLDFNs. We provide a procedure for the solution of these equations using s , t , u , v -cut and also provide the examples.

The aim of this study is to investigate how heat and mass transfer impacts the unsteady incompressible flow of Maxwell fluid. An infinite vertical plate with ramped and isothermal wall temperature and concentration boundary conditions is considered with the Maxwell fluid. Furthermore, in this study, engine oil has been taken as a base fluid due to its enormous applications in modern science and technologies. To see the importance of nanofluids, we have suspended molybdenum disulfide in engine oil base fluid to enhance its heat transfer rate. To investigate the flow regime, the system of equations was derived in the form of partial differential equations. The exact solutions to the complex system are obtained using the Laplace transform technique. Graphically, the impact of different embedded parameters on velocity, temperature, and concentration distributions has been shown. Through using the graphical analysis, we were interested in comparing the velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles for ramped and isothermal wall temperature and concentration. The magnitude of velocity, temperature, and concentration distributions is greater for an isothermal wall and less for a ramped wall, according to our observations. We observed that adding molybdenum disulfide nanoparticles to the engine oil increased the heat transfer up to 12.899%. Finally, the corresponding skin friction, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number have been calculated and presented in a tabular form.

This paper investigates fixed points of Reich-Suzuki-type nonexpansive mappings in the context of uniformly convex Banach spaces through an M ∗ iterative method. Under some appropriate situations, some strong and weak convergence theorems are established. To support our results, a new example of Reich-Suzuki-type nonexpansive mappings is presented which exceeds the class of Suzuki-type nonexpansive mappings. The presented results extend some recently announced results of current literature.

Domestication of horses fundamentally transformed long-range mobility and warfare. However, modern domesticated breeds do not descend from the earliest domestic horse lineage associated with archaeological evidence of bridling, milking and corralling at Botai, Central Asia around 3500 bc3. Other longstanding candidate regions for horse domestication, such as Iberia and Anatolia, have also recently been challenged. Thus, the genetic, geographic and temporal origins of modern domestic horses have remained unknown. Here we pinpoint the Western Eurasian steppes, especially the lower Volga-Don region, as the homeland of modern domestic horses. Furthermore, we map the population changes accompanying domestication from 273 ancient horse genomes. This reveals that modern domestic horses ultimately replaced almost all other local populations as they expanded rapidly across Eurasia from about 2000 bc, synchronously with equestrian material culture, including Sintashta spoke-wheeled chariots. We find that equestrianism involved strong selection for critical locomotor and behavioural adaptations at the GSDMC and ZFPM1 genes. Our results reject the commonly held association between horseback riding and the massive expansion of Yamnaya steppe pastoralists into Europe around 3000 bc driving the spread of Indo-European languages. This contrasts with the scenario in Asia where Indo-Iranian languages, chariots and horses spread together, following the early second millennium bc Sintashta culture., The work by G. To combat the public health threat posed by multiple-drug-resistant (MDR) pathogens, new drugs with novel chemistry and modes of action are needed. In this study, several drugs including Hesperidin (HES), curcumin (CUR), and Amphotericin B (AmpB) drug–nanoparticle formulations were tested for antibacterial strength against MDR Gram-positive bacteria, including Bacillus cereus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli K1, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enterica, and Serratia marcescens. Nanoparticles were synthesized and subjected to Atomic force microscopy, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, and Zetasizer for their detailed characterization. Antibacterial assays were performed to determine their bactericidal efficacy. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assays were carried out to measure drugs’ and drug–nanoparticles’ cytotoxic effects on human cells. Spherical NPs ranging from 153 to 300 nm were successfully synthesized. Results from antibacterial assays revealed that drugs and drug–nanoparticle formulations exerted bactericidal activity against MDR bacteria. Hesperidin alone failed to exhibit antibacterial effects but, upon conjugation with cinnamic-acid-based magnetic nanoparticle, exerted significant bactericidal activity against both the Gram-positive and Gram-negative isolates. AmpB-LBA-MNPs produced consistent, potent antibacterial efficacy (100% kill) against all Gram-positive bacteria. AmpB-LBA-MNPs showed strong antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria. Intriguingly, all the drugs and their conjugated counterpart except AmpB showed minimal cytotoxicity against human cells. In summary, these innovative nanoparticle formulations have the potential to be utilized as therapeutic agents against infections caused by MDR bacteria and represent a significant advancement in our effort to counter MDR bacterial infections.

As Electrical power system is moving very rapidly toward greener and more sustainable through the usage of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), complexity and dynamic nature of power system is increasing at a same pace also, Thus to avoid any instability or faults that might occur, quick and real time monitoring of electrical power system is the need of the day. This can be achieved by the usage of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). PMU is a time-synchronized metering device that gives very fast and precise data of current and voltage phasors. However, due to their high infrastructure costs of placing, adequate planning for PMU placement is crucial so that the whole system can be observable and the cost of installation of PMUs can be reduced also. In this paper we present optimal PMU placement through Binary Integer Linear Programming (BILP). The simulations are carried out for normal conditions as well as N-1 contingencies. Furthermore, to solve Multiphase PMUs placement problem Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) has been employed. The presented technique is applied on Pakistani Transmission Network as well as on IEEE 14 bus system. The results show that with less number of PMUs better observability of critical buses and lines can be achieved in Pakistani Transmission system as well as in IEEE test systems.

[EN] The router plays an important role in communication among different processing cores in on-chip networks. Technology scaling on one hand has enabled the designers to integrate multiple processing components on a single chip; on the other hand, it becomes the reason for faults. A generic router consists of the buffers and pipeline stages. A single fault may result in an undesirable situation of degraded performance or a whole chip may stop working. Therefore, it is necessary to provide permanent fault tolerance to all the components of the router. In this paper, we propose a mechanism that can tolerate permanent faults that occur in the router. We exploit the fault-tolerant techniques of resource sharing and paring between components for the input port unit and routing computation (RC) unit, the resource borrowing for virtual channel allocator (VA) and multiple paths for switch allocator (SA) and crossbar (XB). The experimental results and analysis show that the proposed mechanism enhances the reliability of the router architecture towards permanent faults at the cost of 29% area overhead. The proposed router architecture achieves the highest Silicon Protection Factor (SPF) metric, which is 24.4 as compared to the state-of-the-art fault-tolerant architectures. Background The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of coronary artery anomalies (CAAs) in Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) patients undergoing computed tomography (CT)-angiography in a tertiary care hospital. Methodology In this observational study, we included consecutive TOF patients undergoing CT-angiography without prior history of cardiac surgery or congenital heart disease. CAAs were defined based on either origin or course of the artery. Results Out of 441 TOF patients, the prevalence of CCAs was 3.6% (16), of which 13 were below 18 years of age. Anomalous left main artery was observed in six (1.4%) patients, followed by left anterior descending artery and right coronary artery, observed in four (0.9%) patients each, and two (0.5%) patients had a single coronary artery originating from the left coronary cusp with an interarterial course. Conclusions CAAs were observed in a significant number (3.6%) of TOF patients. A CT-angiographic assessment before surgical correction would help identify the exact anatomy for better surgical planning to minimize complications.

Network-on-chip (NoC) architectures have become a popular communication platform for heterogeneous computing systems owing to their scalability and high performance. Aggressive technology scaling makes these architectures prone to both permanent and transient faults. This study focuses on the tolerance of a NoC router to permanent faults. A permanent fault in a NoC router severely impacts the performance of the entire network. Thus, it is necessary to incorporate component-level protection techniques in a router. In the proposed scheme, the input port utilizes a bypass path, virtual channel (VC) queuing, and VC closing strategies. Moreover, the routing computation stage utilizes spatial redundancy and double routing strategies, and the VC allocation stage utilizes spatial redundancy. The switch allocation stage utilizes run-time arbiter selection. The crossbar stage utilizes a triple bypass bus. The proposed router is highly fault-tolerant compared with the existing state-of-the-art fault-tolerant routers. The reliability of the proposed router is 7.98 times higher than that of the unprotected baseline router in terms of the mean-time-to-failure metric. The silicon protection factor metric is used to calculate the protection ability of the proposed router. Consequently, it is confirmed that the proposed router has a greater protection ability than the conventional fault-tolerant routers.

In this paper, heat transfer of linearly stretched curved surfaces of unsteady magnetized micropolar fluid flow is discussed. Impacts of velocity and thermal slip are considered on the linear curved stretching surface. The mathematical model is assembled under the flow suppositions derived from the classic Navier Stoke equations. This model is reduced to a system of coupled nonlinear differential equations by means of boundary layer approximations. Differential equations become dimensionless when the similarity transformations are applied. The dimensionless system is solved through numerical techniques. The involved dimensionless parameters effects a range of parameters, including the unsteady parameter, magnetic parameter, velocity slip parameter, curvature parameter, micropolar parameter, reciprocal magnetic Prandtl number, dimensionless parameter, Biot number and Prandtl number, all of which are studied in relation to the Nusselt number, skin fraction, velocity profile, temperature profile, micropolar profile and magnetized profile. We provide a robust discussion, and evidence our findings graphically and in tables. Key outcomes of this work include findings such as, the unsteady parameter enhances as thermal and momentum boundary layer decreases. Also, the skin friction rises for increasing curvature parameters, but Nusselt number declines when the curvature parameters rises.

Background In underdeveloped countries, coronary artery disease (CAD) has developed into a serious health issue due to the high rates of risk factors such as obesity and smoking amongst the population. This study has been performed to find the rate of multivessel CAD (MVD) and subsequent thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) flow grade III in patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods This transverse study was carried out involving 110 patients from the emergency department of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Karachi, Pakistan, from August 2015 to March 2016. All patients were diagnosed as ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and had gone through primary PCI. Pre-procedure angiographic findings regarding the number of vessels involved and post-procedure TIMI flow grade were assessed and analysed. Results The average age of the study sample was 56.3 ± 11.4 years. The proportion of male patients was 81.8% (n=90), and hypertension was the most prevalent risk factor followed by type II diabetes with a frequency of 67.3% (n=74) and 40.0% (n=44), respectively. Coronary angiography showed MVD in 50.0% (n=55) of the patients, of whom 34 patients had two-vessel disease, and the remaining 21 had three-vessel disease. Ninety percent (n=99) of the patients exhibited TIMI flow grade III after the procedure with no significant difference between patients with MVD and those with single-vessel disease with a rate of 87.3% (n=48/55) versus 92.7% (n=51/55, P=0.527), respectively. Conclusion Post-procedure TIMI flow grade III was accomplished in almost 90% of the subjects with or without MVD. It can be concluded that primary PCI has a significant role in the early restoration of myocardial blood flow following STEMI regardless of the vessels involved.

In this studyboth staging system have been used primarily for extension of disease and ossicular chain status.Objective: To evaluate the intraoperative extent of disease and to analyze the nature of ossicular erosion in patients of squamosaltype of CSOM based on ChOLE and EAONO/JOS Classification.Material and Methods: This Retrospective chart review study was conducted from January 2017 to June 2019 in ENTDepartment, Saidu Group of Teaching Hospitals, Saidu Sharif Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. A total of 95 patients ofsquamosal type of Chronic Supportive Otitis Media operated during the period were included in the study after following the setexclusion criteria. Peroperative extent of disease was noted from the patient's charts and operation notes according to the“EAONO/JOS” classification system for cholestetoma staging. The ossicular status at the end of surgery was also noted from theoperation notes according to the “ChOLE” classification. The data collected was analyzed for results.Results: Majority of the patients (80%) were in stage 3, followed by stage 2 (9%) and stage 4 (8%). Three percent of the patientswere in stage 1. Class “O” was 3%, in which the ossicular chain was intact while Class 1 was 18% and Class 2 was 34%. Majority ofthe patients (45%) were in advanced stage of Class 3, in which either mobile stapes (3a) or Mobile foot plate (3b) was observed.Conclusion: Multi ossicular involvement was more common likely contributing to difficulty in ossicular reconstruction and hearingrestoration. Moreover both the staging systems are quite helpful in surgically oriented categorization of extent of disease.

Computer-Aided Language Learning (CALL) is growing nowadays because learning new languages is essential for communication with people of different linguistic backgrounds. Mispronunciation detection is an integral part of CALL, which is used for automatic pointing of errors for the non-native speaker. In this paper, we investigated the mispronunciation detection of Arabic words using deep Convolution Neural Network (CNN). For automated pronunciation error detection, we proposed CNN features-based model and extracted features from different layers of Alex Net (layers 6, 7, and 8) to train three machine learning classifiers, K-nearest neighbor (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Random Forest (RF). We also used a transfer learning-based model in which feature extraction and classification are performed automatically. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, a comprehensive evaluation is provided on these methods with a traditional machine learning-based method using Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) features. We used the same three classifiers KNN, SVM, and RF in the baseline method for mispronunciation detection. Experimental results show that with handcrafted features, transfer learning-based method and classification based on deep features extracted from Alex Net achieved an average accuracy of 73.67, 85 and 93.20 on Arabic words, respectively. Moreover, these results reveal that the proposed method with feature selection achieved the best average accuracy of 93.20% than all other methods.

Background Acute myocardial infarction (MI) is the leading cause of worldwide cardiac morbidities and mortalities. Mitral regurgitation (MR) is a common complication of MI. The severity of ischemic MR (IMR) can range widely, both clinically and hemodynamically. Mitral valve (MV) repair by lifting annuloplasty is a surgical procedure used to correct the pathology of IMR. The immediate outcomes of this technique have not yet been determined. The present study, therefore, evaluated the immediate results of MV annuloplasty performed to complement MV repair in patients with IMR. Methodology All adult patients with IMR who underwent lifting posterior mitral annuloplasty (LPMA) plus concomitant coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) were included. Immediate outcomes were evaluated by transesophageal color Doppler echocardiography. The frequency of successful outcomes was compared in patients with different baseline characteristics. Results Posterior mitral annuloplasty was successful in 93.1% of patients, including in 92.8% of men and 94.1% of women. The percentages of successful immediate outcomes differed significantly in patients with and without diabetes and hypertension, and in patients with two- and three-vessel disease. Conclusion LPMA resulted in a high percentage of successful immediate outcomes in patients with IMR. Further studies should compare rates of immediate, intermediate, and late outcomes of this technique.

Most cancer care is delivered in the community, while most clinical trials exist in academic centers. We analyzed clinical trial accrual of a tertiary care cancer center and its affiliated community sites to better understand what types of trials accrued at the community sites and whether community accrual increased ethnic diversity. The institutional clinical trial database was searched for solid tumor accruals during 2018–2019. Patient’s race was abstracted, and trial’s funding source, phase, and disease type/stage were tabulated. Of 3689 accruals, 133 were at community sites, representing 26 unique trials while the main campus accrued to 93 unique trials. Community site accruals were highest for breast and colorectal cancer, but patients with less common cancers such as renal, nasopharyngeal, and gastric cancer were also accrued at community sites. Accruals occurred to randomized trials, as well as phase Ib and translational biomarker studies. Minority patients constituted 20.0% and 32.5% of community site accruals for therapeutic and non-therapeutic trials respectively, compared to 20.6% and 29.8% of main campus accruals for therapeutic and non-therapeutic trials, respectively. We conclude that community sites affiliated with an academic cancer center can accrue to a broad spectrum of clinical trials while enhancing racial diversity in participation of clinical trials. Further expansion of access to clinical trials in community sites is necessary to broaden patient access to state-of-the-art and next-generation treatment options.

Photosynthesis can be probed through Chlorophyll a fluorescence induction (FI), which provides detailed insight into the electron transfer process in Photosystem II, and beyond. Here, we have systematically studied the natural variation of the fast phase of the FI, i.e. the OJIP phase, in rice. The OJIP phase of the Chl a fluorescence induction curve is referred to as "fast transient" lasting for less than a second; it is obtained after a dark-adapted sample is exposed to saturating light. In the OJIP curve, "O" stands for "origin" (minimal fluorescence), "P" for "peak" (maximum fluorescence), and J and I for inflection points between the O and P levels. Further, Fo is the fluorescence intensity at the "O" level, whereas Fm is the intensity at the P level, and Fv (= Fm - Fo) is the variable fluorescence. We surveyed a set of quantitative parameters derived from the FI curves of 199 rice accessions, grown under both field condition (FC) and growth room condition (GC). Our results show a significant variation between Japonica (JAP) and Indica (IND) subgroups, under both the growth conditions, in almost all the parameters derived from the OJIP curves. The ratio of the variable to the maximum (Fv/Fm) and of the variable to the minimum (Fv/Fo) fluorescence, the performance index (PIabs), as well as the amplitude of the I-P phase (AI-P) show higher values in JAP compared to that in the IND subpopulation. In contrast, the amplitude of the O-J phase (AO-J) and the normalized area above the OJIP curve (Sm) show an opposite trend. The performed genetic analysis shows that plants grown under GC appear much more affected by environmental factors than those grown in the field. We further conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) using 11 parameters derived from plants grown in the field. In total, 596 non-unique significant loci based on these parameters were identified by GWAS. Several photosynthesis-related proteins were identified to be associated with different OJIP parameters. We found that traits with high correlation are usually associated with similar genomic regions. Specifically, the thermal phase of FI, which includes the amplitudes of the J-I and I-P subphases (AJ-I and AI-P) of the OJIP curve, is, in turn, associated with certain common genomic regions. Our study is the first one dealing with the natural variations in rice, with the aim to characterize potential candidate genes controlling the magnitude and half-time of each of the phases in the OJIP FI curve.

Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) play an important role in minimizing power losses and voltage deviations while increasing the real power transfer capacity of transmission lines. The extent to which these devices can provide benefits to the transmission network depend on their optimal location and sizing. However, finding appropriate locations and sizes of these devices in an electrical network is difficult since it is a nonlinear problem. This paper proposes a technique for the optimal placement and sizing of FACTS, namely the Thyristor-Controlled Series Compensators (TCSCs), Shunt VARs Compensators (SVCs), and Unified Power Flows Controllers (UPFCs). To find the optimal locations of these devices in a network, weak buses and lines are determined by constructing PV curves of load buses, and through the line stability index. Then, the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is employed not only to find an ideal ratings for these devices but also the optimal coordination of SVC, TCSC, and UPFC with the reactive power sources already present in the network (tap settings of transformers and reactive power from generators). The objective here is the minimization of the operating cost of the system that consists of active power losses and FACTS devices cost. The proposed method is applied to the IEEE 14 and 30 bus systems. The presented technique is also compared with Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The findings showed that total system operating costs and transmission line losses were considerably reduced by WOA as compared to existing metaheuristic optimization techniques.

Identifying new options to improve photosynthetic capacity is a major approach to improve crop yield potential. Here we report that overexpression of the gene encoding the transcription factor mEmBP-1 led to simultaneously increased expression of many genes in photosynthesis, including genes encoding Chl a,b-binding proteins (Lhca and Lhcb), PSII (PsbR3 and PsbW) and PSI reaction center subunits (PsaK and PsaN), chloroplast ATP synthase subunit, electron transport reaction components (Fd1 and PC), and also major genes in the Calvin–Benson–Bassham cycle, including those encoding Rubisco, glyceraldehyde phosphate dehydrogenase, fructose bisphosphate aldolase, transketolase, and phosphoribulokinase. These increased expression of photosynthesis genes resulted in increased leaf chlorophyll pigment, photosynthetic rate, biomass growth, and grain yield both in the greenhouse and in the field. Using EMSA experiments, we showed that mEmBP-1a protein can directly bind to the promoter region of photosynthesis genes, suggesting that the direct binding of mEmBP-1a to the G-box domain of photosynthetic genes up-regulates expression of these genes. Altogether, our results show that mEmBP-1a is a major regulator of photosynthesis, which can be used to increase rice photosynthesis and yield in the field.

HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding), the state-of-the-art video coding standard has 3D extension known as 3D-HEVC, which is established by JCT-3V. In current design of 3D-HEVC, to exploit the redundancies of the 3D video signal, various tools are integrated. In 3D-HEVC, the neighboring block disparity vector (NBDV) mode is used to replace the original predicted depth map (PDM) for inter-view motion prediction. A new estimated disparity vector depth oriented neighboring block disparity vector (DoNBDV) is used to enhance the accuracy of the NBDV by utilizing the coded depth map. In this paper, the complexity and implementation analysis of the NBDV and DoNBDV architectures are analyzed in terms of performance, complexity, and other design considerations. It is hence concluded that NBDV and DoNBDV for 3D-HEVC video signals provide attractive coding gains with comparable complexity as traditional motion/disparity compensation.

Mules (Equus asinus x Equus caballus) represent first-generation hybrids between a female horse (mare) and a male donkey (jack). They are generally considered to have first appeared north of the Alps with Roman influence, a time period in which written and iconographic sources support their key role for transport and traction, both in farming and the military. The archaeozoological evidence for mules is, however, contentious as faunal assemblages are difficult to assign to either parental species or hybrids based on morphometric data alone. Here we leverage low-coverage DNA sequence data and Zonkey computational analyses to assess the occurrence of mules within Roman equid faunal assemblages in the alpine foreland. While morphological data previously assigned 17 remains to mules, successful DNA analysis of 12 remains revealed that 11 were in fact horses, one female and ten males. Eight mtDNA d-loop haplogroups were identified and genetic diversity within Roman equids corresponds to non-threatened modern local breeds. Two remains genetically identified as mules belonged to haplogroups F and I. Our results suggest that the importance of mules in the Roman archaeological record of the alpine foreland, and probably elsewhere, may have been previously over-estimated. Whether this is true for other regions of the Roman Empire needs to be evaluated. Further genomic testing for equid species and their hybrids and molecular sexing will improve our knowledge on this important issue.

Non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) of the excited state of chlorophyll a is a major photoprotective mechanism plants utilize to survive under high light. Here, we report the impact of long-term light quality treatment on photosynthetic properties, especially NPQ in rice. We used three LED-based light regimes, i.e., red (648–672 nm), blue (438–460 nm), and “warm” white light (529–624 nm), with the incident photon flux density of 300 µmol photons m−2 s−1, the difference in the absorbed photon flux densities by leaves grown under different light quality being less than 7%. Our results show that blue light, as compared to white light, induced a significant decrease in Fv/Fm, a decreased rate of reduction of P700+ after P700 was completely oxidized; furthermore, blue light also induced higher NPQ with an increased initial speed of NPQ induction, which corresponds to the qE component of NPQ, and a lower maximum quantum yield of PSII, i.e., Y(II). In contrast, rice grown under long-term red light showed decreased Y(II) and increased NPQ, but with no change in Fv/Fm. Furthermore, we found that rice grown under either blue or red light showed decreased transcript abundance of both catalase and ascorbate peroxidase, together with an increased H2O2 content, as compared to rice grown under white light. All these data suggest that even under a moderate incident light level, rice grown under blue or red light led to compromised antioxidant system, which contributed to decreased quantum yield of photosystem II and increased NPQ.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the knowledge gaps in the published research on terrorism-related risk in supply chains, and to develop a framework of strategies and effective decision-making to enable practitioners to address terrorism-related risks in supply chain risk management (SCRM) and security.Design/methodology/approachThe study adopts a novel combination of triangulated methods comprising a systematic literature review (SLR), text mining and network analysis. These methods have not been jointly utilized in past studies, and the approach constitutes a rigorous methodology that cross-validates results and ensures the reliability and validity of qualitative data.FindingsThe study reveals a number of key themes in the field of SCRM and security linked with terrorism. The authors identify relevant mitigation strategies and practices for effective strategic decision making. This subsequently leads us to develop a strategic framework of strategies and effective decision-making practices to address terrorism-related risk, affecting SCRM and security. The authors also identify key knowledge gaps in the literature and explore the main contributions by disciplines (e.g. business schools, engineering and maritime institutions) and countries.Practical implicationsThe authors provide a strategic framework of strategies and effective decision-making practices that managers can use to minimize terrorism-related risk in the context of SCRM and security.Originality/valueThis paper introduces a novel methodological combination for improving the quality of SLRs. It uses the approach to systematically review the strategies and effective decision-making practices interlinked with terrorism risk, affecting SCRM and security. It identifies significant knowledge gaps and defines directions for future research.

BACKGROUND: Gastric subepithelial lesions are frequently encountered during endoscopic examinations, and the majority of them are small and asymptomatic. Among these lesions, gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the major concern for patients and clinicians owing to their malignant potentials. Although previous guidelines suggested periodic surveillance for such small (≤ 20 mm) lesions, several patients and clinicians have still requested or prescribed repeated examinations or radical resection, posing extra medical burdens and risks. AIM: To describe the clinical course of suspected small gastric GISTs and provide further evidence for surveillance strategy for tumor therapy. METHODS: This single-center, retrospective study was conducted at West China Hospital, Sichuan University. Consecutive patients with suspected small gastric GISTs were reviewed from November 2004 to November 2018. GIST was suspected according to endoscopic ultrasonography features: hypoechoic lesions from muscularis propria or muscularis mucosa. Eligible patients with suspected small (≤ 20 mm) GISTs were included for analysis. Patients’ demographic data, lesions’ characteristics, and follow-up medical records were collected. RESULTS: A total of 383 patients (male/female, 121/262; mean age, 54 years) with 410 suspected small gastric GISTs (1 lesion in 362 patients, 2 lesions in 16, 3 lesions in 4, and 4 lesions in 1) were included for analysis. The most common location was gastric fundus (56.6%), followed by body (29.0%), cardia (12.2%), and antrum (2.2%). After a median follow-up of 28 mo (interquartile range, 16-48; range, 3-156), 402 lesions (98.0%) showed no changes in size, and size of 8 lesions (2.0%) was increased (mean increment, 10 mm). Of the 8 lesions with size increment, endoscopic or surgical resection was performed in 6 patients (5 GISTs and 1 leiomyoma). For other 2 remaining patients, unroofing biopsy or endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration was carried out (2 GISTs), while no further change in size was noted over a period of 62-64 mo. CONCLUSION: The majority of suspected small (≤ 20 mm) gastric GISTs had no size increment during follow-up. Regular endoscopic follow-up without pathological diagnosis may be highly helpful for such small gastric subepithelial lesions.

Bacillus pumilus strain SCAL1 is an endophytic, thermophilic plant that was isolated from the leaf of a plant, Solanum lycopersicum L., in Sindh, Pakistan. B. pumilus strain SCAL1 has usually exhibited high resistance to environmental stresses, with a growth temperature ranging from 30 to 60°C. An approximately 3.75-Mb draft genome was assembled into 68 contigs.
