Abstract

36th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 83-86, The study was aimed to produce a wet solar cell applying the photocatalytic characteristics of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and copper oxides with seawater electrolyte that can be used in marine environment. Screen printed TiO2 electrode and vacuum deposited copper oxides were designed as the electrodes in this study. The cell voltage of 800 mV was obtained and stable during a 24-hour period in the assembled cell. The power density measurement was performed both for separated and assembled cells. The power density of assembled cell is higher than that of separated cell. From the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis, the Nyquist plot was obtained and the equivalent circuit for the cell was constructed by simple curve fitting. The EIS result showed the impedance values of both TiO2 and Cu oxides semiconductors. The circuit for layers of electrodes and electrolyte was obtained

Abstract

A study was conducted on the influence of current redistribution on the stability of Nb3Sn compacted-strand cables with chrome coating and without any coating. Minimum quench energy (MQE) measurements were derived under different external magnetic fields and transport currents. Results show that the cable with the chrome coating has a slightly higher MQE than the cable without any coating.

Abstract

A study on the performance of a 70MW class superconducting generator was conducted using a rotor model. The rotor model's quench energy and normal propagation velocity in the rotational field were calculated at different rotating speeds. The experimental data was then examined using an analytical model. Results prove that superconducting generator's field windings may be precisely designed.

Abstract

Field measurements on two 180-degree superconducting bending magnets have been carried out to determine the applicability in a 600-MeV electron storage ring. The measurements include field distribution, field homogeneity, coil axis gradient and field stability. According to the results, which showed good agreement with numerical calculations, the magnets are characterized by high field homogeneity and stability as well as an average coil axis gradient of 0.5 mrad.

Abstract

To prevent voltage decrease of distribution systems, the principle and fundamental characteristics of a solid-state current limiter using GTO thyristors were investigated. Basic components of the apparatus were a fast solid-state switch and a current limiting impedance of low resistance in parallel with the switch. Experimental results of the test current limiter showed the fault current was limited successfully, regardless of DC component size. The time from detection of fault occurrence to interruption of the fault current by the solid-state switch was 40 microseconds. This time was very short in comparison with that before the fault current reached a large value. Thermal rise of the solid-state switch for conduction was solved by a self-cooling apparatus using a non-combustible cooling liquid. The results indicated that the solid-state current limiter was a valuable protecting device for high fault current distribution systems.

Abstract

The design and performance of a superconducting magnet for an 800-MeV synchrotron radiation source are presented. The 4.5-T bending magnet operates on persistent current mode, has a low consumption ratio of liquid helium and contains coils with a dipole, quadrupole and sextupole geometry. Tests on its persistent current switches and superconducting joints confirm its successful operation.
