- Abstract
Predicting future frames through image-to-image translation and using these synthetically generated frames for high-speed ground vehicle teleoperation is a new concept to address latency and enhance operational performance. In the immediate previous work, the image quality of the predicted frames was low and a lot of scene detail was lost. To preserve the structural details of objects and improve overall image quality in the predicted frames, several novel ideas are proposed herein. A filter has been designed to remove noise from dense optical flow components resulting from frame rate inconsistencies. The Pix2Pix base network has been modified and a structure-aware SSIM-based perpetual loss function has been implemented. A new dataset of 20 000 training input images and 2000 test input images with a 500 ms delay between the target and input frames has been created. Without any additional video transformation steps, the proposed improved model achieved PSNR of 23.1; SSIM of 0.65; and MS-SSIM of 0.80, a substantial improvement over our previous work. A Fleiss’ kappa score of > 0.40 (0.48 for the modified network and 0.46 for the perpetual loss function) proves the reliability of the model.

Background: The causes for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) are diverse and the incidence trends of IMIDs from specific causes are rarely studied. The study aims to investigate the pattern and trend of IMIDs from 1990 to 2019. Methods: We collected detailed information on six major causes of IMIDs, including asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis, between 1990 and 2019, derived from the Global Burden of Disease study in 2019. The average annual percent change (AAPC) in number of incidents and age standardized incidence rate (ASR) on IMIDs, by sex, age, region, and causes, were calculated to quantify the temporal trends. Findings: In 2019, rheumatoid arthritis, atopic dermatitis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease accounted 1.59%, 36.17%, 54.71%, 0.09%, 6.84%, 0.60% of overall new IMIDs cases, respectively. The ASR of IMIDs showed substantial regional and global variation with the highest in High SDI region, High-income North America, and United States of America. Throughout human lifespan, the age distribution of incident cases from six IMIDs was quite different. Globally, incident cases of IMIDs increased with an AAPC of 0.68 and the ASR decreased with an AAPC of −0.34 from 1990 to 2019. The incident cases increased across six IMIDs, the ASR of rheumatoid arthritis increased (0.21, 95% CI 0.18, 0.25), while the ASR of asthma (AAPC = −0.41), inflammatory bowel disease (AAPC = −0.72), multiple sclerosis (AAPC = −0.26), psoriasis (AAPC = −0.77), and atopic dermatitis (AAPC = −0.15) decreased. The ASR of overall and six individual IMID increased with SDI at regional and global level. Countries with higher ASR in 1990 experienced a more rapid decrease in ASR. Interpretation: The incidence patterns of IMIDs varied considerably across the world. Innovative prevention and integrative management strategy are urgently needed to mitigate the increasing ASR of rh

- Abstract
The leading infectious cause of death in children worldwide is lower acute respiratory infection (LARI), particularly pneumonia. We enrolled a total of 538 acute respiratory infection (ARI) cases according to WHO criteria and age-sex matched 514 controls in the Forcibly Displaced Myanmar National (FDMN) refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, between June 2018 and March 2020 to investigate the role of bacteria, viruses, and their co-infection patterns and observe Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) serotype distribution. According to the etiological findings, children ≤5 years of age have a higher bacterial positivity (90%) and viral positivity (34%) in nasopharyngeal samples (NPS) compared to those >5 years of age, in both ARI cases as well as for the control group. Among the bacteria, S. pneumoniae was predominant in both cases and controls (85% and 88%). Adenovirus (ADV)(34), influenza virus A and B (IFV-A, B)(32,23), and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) (26) were detected as the highest number among the viruses tested for the ARI cases. The total number of viruses was also found higher in ≤5 years of age group. Within this group, positive correlation was observed between bacteria and viruses but negative correlation was observed between bacteria. Both single and co-infection for viruses were found higher in the case group than the control group. However, co-infection was significantly high for Streptococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Haemophilus influenzae b (H. influenza b) (p<0.05). Additionally, semi-quantitative bacterial and viral load was found higher for the ARI cases over control considering Cycle threshold (Ct)≤30. Pathogen identification from blood specimens was higher by qRT-PCR than blood culture (16% vs 5%, p<0.05). In the S. pneumoniae serotype distribution, the predominant serotypes in ARI cases were 23F, 19A, 16F, 35B, 15A, 20 and 10F, while 11A, 10A, 34, 35A and 13 serotypes were predominant in the control group. - Abstract
In this era of the fourth industrial revolution, the advancement of computer systems, artificial intelligence, computer vision, and automation are playing increasingly significant roles. The rapid levels of advancement in these technologies are making robotics an integral part of many aspects of human venture. More specifically, for applications such as item delivery, telesurgery, industrial production, search and rescue, mining, underwater, aerial and space exploration, and defence, robotic systems are becoming increasingly capable. Although the expectation is that such robotic systems will become increasingly autonomous, building autonomous systems that are capable of performing such complex tasks without supervision will require significant further research. Until this is achieved, robotic teleoperation will be an important component of these applications. Effective teleoperation of remote systems is, however, highly challenging with considerable opportunity for development and improvement. In response to this need, the aim of this research was to explore novel methods for the enhancement of robotic teleportation of unmanned ground robotic vehicles operating in complex and unstructured environments. Ground vehicle teleoperators face a number of challenges including limitedsituational awareness, deficiencies in the communication medium, and, latency or delay in the communication loop. Latency in particular can significantly impactteleoperator performance through overcorrection-induced oscillations, giving riseto increased task completion time, increased cognitive load, and risk of damage to robotic vehicles and the remote environments they operate in. To identify solutions to these problems, this thesis (a) explores existing teleoperation methods and enhancement techniques, (b) identifies both conventional and artificial intelligence (AI) based techniques that have the potential to enhance teleoperation through latency compensation, and (c) explores new methods an

- Abstract
Next-generation consumer electronics and electric vehicle (EV) energy charging technology promise transformative advancements in the automotive industry. One of the main challenges that hinders consumers’ experience is range anxiety particularly relevant in locales where the installation of fixed charging stations (FCSs) is beset by logistical hurdles, notably in rural regions. With the advancement of consumer electronics especially in the design of Mobile Charging Stations (MCSs), EV drivers can now access these MCSs to exchange energy. However, concerns regarding data security and the best strategies to select an MCS to trade energy may negatively impact consumer experiences. This paper delves into the conception of intelligent remedies by proposing the integration of reinforcement learning and blockchain technology to empower EV drivers to access and securely exchange energy with MCSs. We design a Proof of MCSs (PoMCS) as a consensus protocol to select the winning MCSs as block miners in the blockchain. The results of our experiment show that the average gain for the MCSs increases when using the proposed model and therefore inclined to serve more EVs.

- Abstract
The study investigates the relationship between drought and vegetation variations in three main basins of western and southwestern of Iran, using the comprehensive approach of time-series analysis, Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), and anomaly calculation. A total of 30 ground stations’ daily meteorological data and the MODIS 16-day composite NDVI products (2000–2017) were used in this case. The results showed that in the Great Karoun River (GKRW) and Karkheh River (KRW) sub-regions, the NDVI decreased slightly over the study period. Simultaneously, in the West Marginal (WMW) sub-region the NDVI slightly increased somewhat. Overall, the NDVI in the whole study area presented an insignificant decrease. Also the results found that there is a significant relationship (p< 0.02) between the NDVI (0.3–0.7) with spring drought and between NDVI (0.2–0.3) with fall drought (p< 0.01). There is a marginally significant relationship (R= 0.43, p= 0.07) between NDVI (0.3–0.4) with fall drought and a relatively high, but insignificant relationship between NDVI (0.7–0.8) with spring drought (R= 0.41, p= 0.09). Low temperature can play an important role in determining the relationship between SPI and NDVI, which evidenced that it can trade-off the effect of a very wet year. As well as a year with very wet condition can affect the NDVI of the coming years. Since summer is hot season in the study area and most of the vegetation consists of shrubs and grasslands, of which the NDVI ranges between 0.2 and 0.4, the vegetation cover can be significantly affected by a wet summer with abundant precipitation.

Bangladesh is connected through bridges and many of them are experiencing damages due to the aging of concrete, weathering effect, or excessive loading. Repair and retrofitting of those bridges are becoming inevitable to make them operational. In this study, the damages of a concrete bridge have been investigated through non‐destructive tests and numerical methods. A repair and retrofitting strategy for the damaged girders has been developed using epoxy injection, shrinkage‐compensated micro mortar, and externally bonded Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets. The micro mortars are injected inside the large cracks and damaged portions of the girders. The flexural zones of the girders were strengthened using U‐shaped CFRP sheets. Field load tests are also conducted to determine the achieved improvement from the repair strengthening work. Dynamic accelerometers, digital probes, and linear variable differential transformers (LVDT) were attached to determine the actual deflections of the girder before and under loading. Finite Element models (FEM) are developed to validate the field data and determine the shear and flexural resistance of the retrofitted girders. The outcomes show that the retrofitted bridge satisfies the design requirements of the AASHTO‐LRFD guidelines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The membrane potential plays a significant role in various cellular processes while interacting with membrane active agents. So far, all the investigations of the interaction of nanoparticles (NPs) with lipid vesicles have been performed in the absence of membrane potential. In this study, the anionic magnetite NP-induced poration along with deformation of cell-mimetic giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) has been studied in the presence of various membrane potentials. Lipids 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol) (DOPG), 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DOPC), and channel forming protein gramicidin A (GrA) are used to synthesize the DOPG/DOPC/GrA-GUVs. The static and dynamic nature of GUVs is investigated using phase contrast fluorescent microscopy. The presence of GrA in the membrane decreases the leakage constant of the encapsulating fluorescent probe (calcein) in the absence of membrane potential. With the increase of negative membrane potential, the leakage shifts from a single exponential to two exponential functions, obtaining two leakage constants. The leakage became faster at the initial stage, and at the final stage, it became slower with the increase in negative membrane potential. Both the fraction of poration and deformation increase with the increase of negative membrane potential. These results suggested that the membrane potential enhances the NP-induced poration along with the deformation of DOPG/DOPC/GrA-GUVs. The increase of the binding constant in the NPs with membrane potential is one of the important factors for increasing membrane permeation and vesicle deformation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study was conducted by Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, Floodplain Substation to investigate the reproductive biology of Ailia coila in the northern region of Bangladesh. A total number of 100 fish samples were collected on a monthly basis from the Atrai River and Jamuna River during the period from January 2022 to December 2022. The highest mean value of the gonado-somatic index (GSI) was recorded in July (8.78 ± 1.95%), whereas the lowest was found in December (0.15 ± 0.09%). The highest individual fecundity (2,450 ± 570) and ova diameter (0.38 ± 0.07 mm) was also observed in July. From the histological observation of the ovary, the highest percentages (75%) of mature oocytes were observed during the month of July. Based on the GSI, fecundity and gonadal histology, the breeding season of A. coila was observed from June to August with a remarkable peak in July. In the case of length weight relationship (LWR), the coefficient of determination value (r2) was found 0.96 and the slope was found b = 1.50 which indicated the pattern of negative allometric growth of this species as b < 3. In contrast, an increase was recorded in the fecundity associated with the rise of total length, body weight and gonad weight showed a significant linear relationship. This study would assist in the development of induced breeding techniques and provide valuable information for the sustainable management of this population in the inland open ecosystem.
