Abstract

Research has been conducted on 3-cyano-2,6-dimethoxypyridine. Results demonstrate that the irradiation of this compound in the presence of ethyl vinyl ether has resulted in production of photoadducts with the structure established via X-ray single-crystal analysis.

Abstract

Chiral functionalized aminals are important core structures of natural products and pharmaceuticals. Their chemo‐ and regioselective catalytic, asymmetric synthesis has been realized through the umpolung reaction of α‐imino amides using a catalyst we originally developed. Functionalized aminals were prepared with high chemoselectivity by treating a hemiaminal intermediate with pyridine in butanol. Evaluation of substrate scope revealed that this transformation could be achieved with a wide range of α‐imino amides to produce the desired products in high yields with up to 97 % ee. A mechanistic study suggested that aminal formation proceeded through the ring opening/ring closing equilibrium of the hemiaminal skeleton. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

金沢大学理工研究域機械工学系, We analyzed denitrifying bacterial population dynamics in two wastewater treatment plants. For analyzing the population dynamics, we applied the PCR-DGGE method for targeting nirS genes, which code cytchrome cd1-type nitrite reductase. One plant treats Coke-oven wastewater (CW) and the other treats synthetic wastewater (SW) such as CW. The CW and SW mainly contained phenol, thiocyanic ion (SCN-) and thiosulfuric acid (S2O3-), and the 2 plants were configured with anoxic and aerobic tanks, respectively. Bacteria in the plants could denitrify using phenol, SCN- and S2O3- as electron acceptors. By analyzing nirS genes in the plants for a few months, we determined the partial denitrifying bacterial population in the plant and deduced bacteria that actually denitrify using phenol, SCN- and S2O3-. As far as we know, this is the first study on the analysis of the bacterial community in a CW treatment plant.

Abstract

Regnase-1 and Roquin are RNA binding proteins essential for degradation of inflammation-related mRNAs and maintenance of immune homeostasis. However, their mechanistic relationship has yet to be clarified. Here, we show that, although Regnase-1 and Roquin regulate an overlapping set of mRNAs via a common stem-loop structure, they function in distinct subcellular locations: ribosome/endoplasmic reticulum and processing-body/stress granules, respectively. Moreover, Regnase-1 specifically cleaves and degrades translationally active mRNAs and requires the helicase activity of UPF1, similar to the decay mechanisms of nonsense mRNAs. In contrast, Roquin controls translationally inactive mRNAs, independent of UPF1. Defects in both Regnase-1 and Roquin lead to large increases in their target mRNAs, although Regnase-1 tends to control the early phase of inflammation when mRNAs are more actively translated. Our findings reveal that differential regulation of mRNAs by Regnase-1 and Roquin depends on their translation status and enables elaborate control of inflammation.

Abstract

Bu çalışmada evsel atıksularda yaygın olarak bulunan glikozun biyolojik fosfor giderimi üzerine etkisi incelenmiştir. Laboratuvar ortamında glikozla beslenen anaerobik-aerobik Ardışık Kesikli Reaktörler (AKR) işletilmiş; çalışma süresince proses performansında ve mikrobiyal türlerde meydana gelen değişimler izlenmiştir. AKR’nin ilk döneminde Biyolojik Aşırı Fosfor Giderimi (BAFG) aktif olarak görülmüştür. Ancak reaktörün ikinci döneminde BAFG aktivitesi bozulmaya başlamış, son döneminde ise kabarma problemi ile karşılaşılmış ve koşullar iyileştirilemediği için işletilmesine son verilmiştir. AKR’nin başlangıç döneminde laktik asit oluşması ve oluşan laktik asitin anaerobik süreçte tüketilmesi sonucu fermentasyon bakterileri ile fosfor depolayan organizmaların (PAO) biyolojik fosfor giderimini birlikte gerçekleştirdiği belirlenmiştir. Laktik asit bakterilerinin glikozu laktik asite fermente ettiği ve PAO’ların anaerobik fosfor salınımından enerji sağlayarak oluşan laktik asidi polihidroksialkonata (PHA) dönüştürdüğü düşünülmüştür. Bu dönemdeki mikroskobik gözlemlerde poli-P depolayan kokların yoğun olarak görülmesi ve filogenetik analiz sonucunda Firmicutes filumuna ait Lactococcus türlerinin mikrobiyal topluluğun önemli bir bölümü olarak tespit edilmesi bu varsayımı desteklemektedir. Ayrıca oluşan PHA’nın %77’sinin 3-hidroksivalerat (3HV) olması ve anaerobik süreçte laktik asitin tüketilmesi laktik asitin PAO’larca kullanılan esas karbon kaynağı olduğunu kanıtlamaktadır. AKR’nin 29’uncu gününde glikojen depolayan organizmalar (GAO) olarak tanımlanan Candidatus Competibacter Phosphatis türü filogenetik analizde yoğun olarak gözlemlenmiş ve BAFG aktivitesinin bozulmasının bu türün baskı hale gelmesinden kaynaklandığı belirlenmiştir. 29’uncu günle birlikte glikojen tüketiminin önemli miktarda artması, glikoz tüketimine karşı salınan fosfor değerinin (0.07 mol P/ mol C) düşmesi sistemde GAO’ların aktif olduğunu göstermektedir.

Abstract: We designed and synthesized dimeric imidazo[1, 5‐a]pyridines possessing various aryl groups at 1,1’‐positions. The solution of these derivatives exhibited fluorescence emission in wavelength range of 487–512 nm. The fluorescence emissions were slightly red‐shifted under acidic condition by addition of trifluoroacetic acid.
