Abstract

A separation of the longitudinal and transverse 12C(e,e′p) cross sections in the quasifree region has been performed in parallel kinematics at Q2 of 0.64 and 1.8 GeV2 for initial proton momentum <80 MeV. The separated transverse and longitudinal spectral functions at Q2=0.64GeV2 show significant differences for missing energy between 25 and 60 MeV indicating a breakdown in the single nucleon knockout picture. The transverse spectral functions exhibit definite momentum transfer dependence.

The study design only differed in entry criteria: Study 2 required more severe allergic conjunctivitis symptoms. Subjects were screened for an allergen response at Visits 1 and 2 and then randomized at Visit 3. Approximately 100 subjects were randomized in each study. The primary efficacy endpoints were ocular itching and conjunctival redness 15 minutes and 8 hours post-treatment, post-CAC.Results: Cetirizine treatment administered 15 minutes or 8 hours prior to CAC resulted in significantly lower ocular itching at all time points post-CAC (P

Abstract

Before applying change detection, high resolution SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) imagery benefits from advanced denoising mechanisms to preserve details and minimize speckle. We propose a change detector based on a MCA (Morphological Components Analysis) of a difference image (DI). With MCA, the data is decomposed into image features utilizing sparse representations of the image content. By introducing a priori knowledge of the content of the scenes, and exploiting shape information corresponding to the changes provided by MCA, we can significantly improve performance under adverse conditions, such as inconsistent acquisition geometries. Abstract

The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany has signed a series of agreements on bilateral cooperation in scientific research and technological development with a considerable number of countries around the world.Among these are Third World countries in the developing stage or on the threshold of industrialization. The general goals of the national German research and technology policy are also applicable to these governmentalagreements. Bilateral cooperation is aimed at to contribute to the broadening of scientific knowledge, to safeguard natural resources and the environment, and to improve the living and working conditions of the populationthrough an increase of the economic strength and of the competitiveness on the international markets. Through the strengthening of the scientifictechnological infrastructure as a prerequisite for industrialization, throughthe joint implementation of projects, and through the exchange of scientists and engineers a contribution to solve the most urgent problems in the partner countries can be achieved, helping thus to narrow the technological gap existing between the developed and the developing world. On March 20, 1979, a governmental agreement on cooperation in scientific research and technological development with the Republic of Indonesia was signed. On the German side, the responsible Federal Ministry for Research and Technology has entrusted the Forschungszentrum Jülich through its International Bureau with the organisation and coordination of this cooperation.Funds are put at the disposal of the International Bureau to at least partially help financing these bilateral efforts. Among the manifold contacts established in the past decade to strengthen the bilateral links between the Republic of Indonesia and the Federal Republic of Germany the partnership between the Laboratory of Geophysics, Physics Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta and the Institute of Geophysics, University of Stuttgart play an outstanding role. The scientific results of 10 years of fruitful cooperation investigating the volcanological activities of Mount Merapi in Central Java are documented in the presented book and compared with Mount Etna in Sicily, another major volcano in the world. The expectation on both sides is great that these results go beyond the mere scientific merits and will also yield ways and means to work out methods of predicting the volcano's activities for the benefit and safety of the numerous population living nearby. Bilateral cooperation has sometimes to surmount difficulties which do not necessarily occur on the national level. Abstract

A series of O- and ring-alkylated derivatives of 4,5,6,7-tetrahydroisothiazolo[4,5-c]pyridin-3-ol was synthesized via treatment of appropriately substituted 4-benzylamino-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridine-3-carboxamides with hydrogen sulfide and subsequent ring closure by oxidation with bromine. The muscarinic receptor affinity as well as estimated relative efficacy and subtype selectivity of this series of bicyclic arecoline bioisosteres were determined using rat brain membranes and a number of tritiated muscarinic receptor ligands. The effects at the five cloned human muscarinic receptor subtypes of a selected series of chiral analogues, with established absolute stereochemistry, were studied using receptor selection and amplification technology (R-SAT). The potency, relative efficacy, and receptor subtype selectivity of these compounds were related to the structure of the O-substituents and the position and stereochemical orientation of the piperidine ring methyl substituents.

Udgivelsesdato: 1990-Oct, The effect of inhibitors of protein synthesis (actinomycin D, cycloheximide), proteases (leupeptin), and intracellular transport (colchicine, monensin) on the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) agonist [4,5,6,7-tetrahydroisoxazolo[5,4-c]pyridin-3-ol (THIP)]-induced changes in morphological differentiation and GABA receptor expression was investigated in cultured cerebellar granule cells. After 4 days in culture the neurons were exposed to the inhibitors for 6 h in the simultaneous presence of THIP. Subsequently, cultures were either fixed for electron microscopic examination or used for preparation of membranes for [3H]GABA binding assays. In some experiments the functional activity of the newly induced low-affinity GABA receptors was assessed by investigation of the ability of GABA to inhibit neurotransmitter release from the neurons. These experiments were performed to differentiate between an intracellular and a plasma membrane localization of the receptors. In all experiments cultures treated with THIP alone served as controls. The inhibitors of protein synthesis totally abolished the ability of THIP to induce low-affinity GABA receptors. In contrast, the inhibitors of intracellular transport as well as the protease inhibitor did not affect this parameter. However, studies of effects of GABA on transmitter release from monensin-treated cultures showed that transmitter release could not be inhibited by GABA in these cells in spite of the presence of low-affinity GABA receptors in the membrane preparations. This indicates that the low-affinity receptors were not located in the plasma membrane. This is in good agreement with the corresponding morphological findings, that monensin treatment led to an intense vacuolization of the Golgi apparatus, thereby preventing intracellular transport of the newly synthesized GABA receptors.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
