The official German Standard Color Chart (DIN-Farbenkarte) is intended as a technical resource for practical specification of color and is carried out with the purpose of developing scales as uniformly as possible for all parts of the color space. In this system the colors are arranged according to hue, saturation, and darkness degree, each of them being divided by uniform psychological steps. A specification of color tolerances by means of these scales is suggested. In its standard form the DIN-Farbenkarte is realized by a set of gelatine filters, where the different darkness degrees are obtainable by means of optical methods.
