Background The LUNA Aneurysm Embolization System (LUNA™ AES) is a self-expanding intra saccular flow disruption device that is placed inside the aneurysm cavity providing a mesh of metal across the neck of the aneurysms thereby isolating it from the parent artery blood flow. The purpose of this report is to characterize the safety and efficacy of the device for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms as part of the LUNA™ AES PMCF study. Materials and methods Patient enrollment was initiated in June 2011 and terminated in November 2013. The study is ongoing (up to 36 months follow-up) and data presented includes 6 and 12-month follow-up data. The primary safety variables collected as part of the LUNA™ PMCF study are the occurrence and frequency of adverse events (AE), adverse device effects (ADE), serious adverse events (SAE), and unanticipated adverse device effects (UADE). An independent Core Laboratory evaluated angiographic assessment of aneurysm occlusion grade, parent vessel compromise, and occlusion durability. Occlusion grade and parent vessel compromise were assessed by DSA after the procedure as well as on the 6 and 12-month angiograms. Results Patient enrolment was completed on November 19, 2013. 63 patients were enrolled at 9 European sites for treatment (63 individual patients). Among 63 patients, the mean age was 52.4 years (median 53 years). The majority of patients were female (84.1%). Most patients had an initial Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) of 0 (80%). Most aneurysms were unruptured (60/64, 93.8%) and the majority of aneurysms were Bifurcation or Terminal aneurysms (76.6%). All aneurysms were ≤10 mm (range 4–10 mm) in height with a mean width of 5.6 (range 3–9 mm) and neck size of 3.5 mm (range 2–6 mm). The majority of aneurysms were located in the anterior circulation (87.5%). A total of 35 AEs were reported in 21 patients. Additionally, there were 24 events classified as SAEs in 14 patients. No patient experienced a UADE. A total of 61 successful procedures were performed in 60 patients (One patient was re-enrolled and retreated for another aneurysm with LUNA™ AES). There were 3 patients that did not receive a LUNA™ AES implantation. One LUNA™ AES device was implanted in 60 patients and adjunctive devices were used in 6 cases including balloons (6 cases), coils (2 cases), and stents (2 cases). Post-procedure angiographic evaluation was available for 60 patients, 6-month data was reported in 59 patients, and 12-month data was reported for 57 patients. Combined complete and near-complete occlusion at 12-month follow-up was reported in 44 of 57 cases (77.2%). A summary of clinical and angiographic outcomes is provided in Table 1. Conclusions The 12-month results demonstrate good safety profile and satisfactory angiographic follow-up. The 36-month clinical and angiographic follow-up is pending. Disclosures M. Piotin: None. A. Bone fractures generate significant social costs, particularly in highly developed countries. This study was aimed at defining the number of hip fractures in Poland and evaluating absolute risk of fractures of this type within a period of 10 years and to the end of life.Figures concerning hip fractures in the Mazowsze Province were provided by the Mazowsze Division of the National Health Fund. Data concerning male and female populations divided into age groups and with specified life expectancy were taken from the Central Bureau of Statistics. The number of hip fractures in Poland was estimated based on data for the Mazowsze Province. Lifetime and 10-year risks of hip fracture were calculated based on a model used by J. A. Kanis et al.The estimated number of hip fractures in Poland was 27,434 (7970 in men, 19,464 in women). Lifetime risk of a hip fracture among men was 7.6% (40 years) to 1.6% (90 years) and from 13.6% to 2% among women, respectively. Ten-year risk of a hip fracture was maximal at the age of 80 and was 4.9% among men and 9.2% among women.The study revealed a relatively large number hip fractures in Poland, amounting to approx. 30 thousand fractures per year. The expected increase in life expectancy in Poland, particularly among women, may result in significantly increased numbers of fractures in the nearest future and increased costs of their treatment.

The paper presents the technique and outcomes of brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM) endovascular treatment using a glue-lipiodol mixture. Embolization was attempted in 33 AVM patients (18 women). In 6 cases (18%) AVMs were complicated by brain aneurysms. In 20 patients (61% of cases) the presence of AVM was manifested by intracranial bleeding.87 procedures were performed; the nidus was completely embolized in every case, total occlusion of AVM was obtained in 12 (35%) cases, subtotal (i.e. 75%) in 13 (36%) cases, and 50% occlusion--in 9 (28%) cases. Out of 8 (24%) cases in which complications occurred, one patient (2%) died.

Purpose The LUNA Aneurysm Embolisation System (AES) is a new self-expanding ovoid device that serves as an intra saccular flow diverter as well as a scaffold for endothelisation across the neck. The objective of this prospective clinical study aiming to include a total of 63 patients was to evaluate the ability of the AES to occlude intracranial aneurysms while maintaining patency of the parent artery. Materials and Methods Immediate post-implantation occlusion grade (complete obliteration of the aneurysm including the neck), near-complete (persistence of any portion of the original defect of the arterial wall), or incomplete (any opacification of the sac) compared to baseline), and parent vessel compromise were evaluated. Patients underwent neurological testing with the Modified Rankin Scale and the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) at baseline and time of discharge. Follow-up included clinical assessment at one, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, and angiographic follow-up at 6 and 12 months. Results 50 patients (9 men) with 47 unruptured and 4 ruptured saccular aneurysms (38 bifurcation, 13 sidewall, sizes from 3.9 to 10.1 mm) were enrolled to date in the study. In all but 2 aneurysms (2 failed procedure converted in coiling) 1 LUNA AES was deployed per aneurysm. In 5 cases, the LUNA AES placement was carried out with balloon microcatheter assistance. In one case, the LUNA AES placement was carried out with a stent. In 1 case, AES placement led to aneurysm perforation that was controlled by temporary balloon occlusion and heparin reversion. In 1 case, thrombo-embolic complication was treated with i.a. injection of Abciximab. Clinical follow up was uneventful in all but 2 patients (one sustained SAH from a contralateral MCA aneurysm, one had GI bleeding). Immediate complete/near complete occlusion was obtained in 22.5% (22/49). At 6 month follow-up, complete/near complete occlusion was obtained in 70.4% (19/27). There was no parent artery stenosis or occlusion. None of the treated aneurysm (re)bled during follow-up. Conclusion Preliminary results demonstrate good safety profile. Adsorption refrigeration systems are able to work with heat sources of temperature starting with 50 °C. The aim of the article is to determine whether in terms of technical and economic issues adsorption refrigeration equipment can work as elements that produce cold using hot water from the district heating network. For this purpose, examined was the work of the adsorption air conditioning equipment cooperating with drycooler, and the opportunities offered by the district heating network in Warsaw during the summer. It turns out that the efficiency of the adsorption device from the economic perspective is not sufficient for production of cold even during the transitional period. The main problem is not the low temperature of the water supply, but the large difference between the coefficients of performance, COPs, of adsorption device and a traditional compressor air conditioning unit. When outside air temperature is 25 °C, the COP of the compressor type reaches a value of 4.49, whereas that of the adsorption device in the same conditions is 0.14. The ratio of the COPs is 32. At the same time ratio between the price of 1 kWh of electric power and 1 kWh of heat is only 2.85. Adsorption refrigeration equipment to be able to compete with compressor devices, should feature COPads efficiency to be greater than 1.52. At such a low driving temperature and even changing the drycooler into the evaporative cooler it is not currently possible to achieve.

One of the greatest challenges in data mining is related to processing and analysis of massive data streams. Contrary to traditional static data mining problems, data streams require that each element is processed only once, the amount of allocated memory is constant and the models incorporate changes of investigated streams. A vast majority of available methods have been developed for data stream classification and only a few of them attempted to solve regression problems, using various heuristic approaches. In this paper, we develop mathematically justified regression models working in a time-varying environment. More specifically, we study incremental versions of generalized regression neural networks, called IGRNNs, and we prove their tracking properties — weak (in probability) and strong (with probability one) convergence assuming various concept drift scenarios. First, we present the IGRNNs, based on the Parzen kernels, for modeling stationary systems under nonstationary noise. Next, we extend our approach to modeling time-varying systems under nonstationary noise. We present several types of concept drifts to be handled by our approach in such a way that weak and strong convergence holds under certain conditions. Finally, in the series of simulations, we compare our method with commonly used heuristic approaches, based on forgetting mechanism or sliding windows, to deal with concept drift. Finally, we apply our concept in a real life scenario solving the problem of currency exchange rates prediction.

The paper presents an analysis of relations describing entropy generation in a condenser of a steam unit. Connections between entropy generation, condenser ratio, and heat exchanger effectiveness, as well as relations implied by them are shown. Theoretical considerations allowed to determine limits of individual parameters which describe the condenser operation. Various relations for average temperature of the cold fluid were compared. All the proposed relations were verified against data obtained using a simulator and actual measurement data from a 200 MW unit condenser. Based on data from a simulator it was examined how the sum of entropy rates, steam condenser effectiveness, terminal temperature difference and condenser ratio vary with the change in the inlet cooling water temperature, mass flow rate of steam and the cooling water mass flow rate.

Objectives: Peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) is gaining popularity in the field of paediatric bone densitometry, however, very little is known about reference limits. The purpose of this study was to develop country-specific reference data for bone densities, cross-sectional sizes, strength and regional tissue distribution measured by pQCT at the distal and proximal forearm in children and adolescents aged 5-19 yrs. Methods: Stratec XCT 2000L apparatus was used. Measurement sites were 4% and 66% of the forearm length on non-dominant arm. Studied group comprised 221 participants (103 girls) aged 4.5-19.5 yrs. The LMS method was used to fit percentile curves for each outcomes. Results: Smoothed percentile curves were developed for following outcomes: trabecular volumetric bone mineral density, total volumetric bone mineral density, distal total bone cross-sectional area, cortical volumetric bone mineral density, cortical cross-sectional area, proximal total bone cross-sectional area, polar strength strain index, fat cross-sectional area and muscle cross-sectional area. Conclusions: In this study we present reference data for bone densities, cross-sectional size and strength as well as for regional tissue distribution measured by pQCT at the distal and proximal forearm in children 5-19 yrs in a way allowing simple calculation of reliable Z scores.
