Intravenous fluid bags are essential in hospitals, but foreign particles can contaminate them during mass production, posing significant risks. Although produced in sanitary environments, contamination can cause severe problems if products reach consumers. Traditional inspection methods struggle with the flexible nature of these bags, which deform easily, complicating particle detection. Recent deep learning advancements offer promising solutions in regard to quality inspection, but high-resolution image processing remains challenging. This paper introduces a real-time deep learning-based inspection system addressing bag deformation and memory constraints for high-resolution images. The system uses object-level background rejection, filtering out objects similar to the background to isolate moving foreign particles. To further enhance performance, the method aggregates object patches, reducing unnecessary data and preserving spatial resolution for accurate detection. During aggregation, candidate objects are tracked across frames, forming tracks re-identified as bubbles or particles by the deep learning model. Ensemble detection results provide robust final decisions. Experiments demonstrate that this system effectively detects particles in real-time with over 98% accuracy, leveraging deep learning advancements to tackle the complexities of inspecting flexible fluid bags. Maraging steels hardened by Cu + NiAl precipitation have recently garnered attention owing to their relatively low cost and exceptionally high strength. However, the high alloy content can cause issues such as solidification cracking, particularly in mass production. In this study, solidification cracking was observed in a Cu + NiAl-hardened maraging steel manufactured via an electroslag remelting process, and an improvement strategy was adopted to solve this problem. Increasing the aluminum content from 1.0 wt.% to 1.2 wt.% can adjust the δ ferrite, which affects the thermal expansion coefficient and density of the system, thereby reducing the rate of cooling shrinkage. The extra addition of 0.2 wt.% aluminum had a negligible effect on the final microstructure and mechanical properties, with both steels demonstrating excellent tensile properties. The reduction in internal stress from the increased aluminum content was also confirmed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement and the finite element method (FEM). In developing nations such as Nigeria, the housing industry lacks appropriate and highquality housing. One of the housing development concepts and shelter delivery systems in practice in developing nations Nigeria inclusive are public, private and public–private. These three delivery strategies involves in mass housing production, although the bulk of these mass housing are not sustainable. This study examines at the conditions of mass housing delivered by the public, public–private, and private sectors in Ilorin, Nigeria. Quantitative and qualitative research approaches were employed for the study and both primary and secondary data were utilised. Multistage sampling technique was adopted to sample 27% of the 4166 households' population. A set of questionnaire was administered to 1125 household heads, from 895 houses of the Public, 203 of public–private–partnership and 27 of private developers. Data were evaluated with descriptive statistics and multiple analyses of variance (MANOVA) to get the variation in housing elements condition based on the three-delivery strategy. According to the study, private had walls with highest percentage of very good (41.0%), good conditions (51.6%), and public had walls with 33.1% very good, 36.6% good conditions. However, 13.0% of PPP wall are in poor condition, and 80.1% of walls are only fair, comparisons of the condition of housing elements in the three strategies revealed that all the parameters of houses were found to have significant differences with p values reported for the comparison were observed to be less than 0.05 confidence level (p < 0.05). The study suggests among others that public–private partnership delivery strategy should be given more attention by the government to ensure good quality delivery and sustainability of mass housing. Due to the extremely low Reynolds number, the mixing of substances in laminar flow within microfluidic channels primarily relies on slow intermolecular diffusion, whereas various rapid reaction and detection requirements in lab-on-a-chip applications often necessitate the efficient mixing of fluids within short distances. This paper presents a magnetic pillar-shaped particle fabrication device capable of producing particles with planar shapes, which are then utilized to achieve the rapid mixing of multiple fluids within microchannels. During the particle fabrication process, a degassed PDMS chip provides self-priming capabilities, drawing in a UV-curable adhesive-containing magnetic powder and distributing it into distinct microwell structures. Subsequently, an external magnetic field is applied, and the chip is exposed to UV light, enabling the mass production of particles with specific magnetic properties through photo-curing. Without the need for external pumping, this chip-based device can fabricate hundreds of magnetic particles in less than 10 min. In contrast to most particle fabrication methods, the degassed PDMS approach enables self-priming and precise dispensing, allowing for precise control over particle shape and size. The fabricated dual-layer magnetic particles, featuring fan-shaped blades and disk-like structures, are placed within micromixing channels. By manipulating the magnetic field, the particles are driven into motion, altering the flow patterns to achieve fluid mixing. Under conditions where the Reynolds number in the chip ranges from 0.1 to 0.9, the mixing index for substances in aqueous solutions exceeds 0.9. In addition, experimental analyses of mixing efficiency for fluids with different viscosities, including 25 wt% and 50 wt% glycerol, reveal mixing indices exceeding 0.85, demonstrating the broad applicability of micromixers based on the rapid rotation of magnetic particles. The Large Fiber Array Spectroscopic Telescope (LFAST) concept involves the utilization of 2640 individual, 0.76 m "unit telescopes" to collect light from a target object. Through optical fibers, the lights from all telescope foci are directed to a high-resolution spectrograph, with fibers subtending a 1.47 arcsec diameter on the sky. The total light-collecting area of all telescopes combined is 1200 m2. Given the telescope's application for spectroscopy of seeing-limited images, the need for coherence is eliminated. The primary goal of the LFAST prototype is to demonstrate a telescope design that can be rapidly and cost-effectively replicated to achieve a 1200 m2 collecting area and match the capabilities of extremely large telescopes (ELTs) presently under construction. Engineering, manufacturing, and design challenges unique to LFAST differ significantly from those encountered in traditional ELTs. Considering that the unit telescope is to be replicated thousands of times, reducing the manufacturing cost per telescope is essential. The aim of the described design is to achieve this goal, with strong considerations for manufacturability, alignment, few moving parts, and high yield. Experience from the first prototype unit telescope built in 2022 will be leveraged to build the first 20-unit tracking module in 2024, with a collecting area of a 3.4-m-diameter mirror. The design is minimalistic and features commercial tolerances, thereby ensuring cost-effectiveness in manufacturing, assembly, and alignment processes. Moreover, the telescope is designed to operate at angles as low as 70° from the zenith by laterally translating a single lens to correct for atmospheric dispersion. We present a combined average of over 80% encircled energy across 2640 Monte Carlo trials. Simulations were conducted using commercially specified tolerances and capabilities to model the overall performance of the array. Compared to conventional gels, eutectogels encompassing deep eutectic solvents (DESs) circumvent the shortboards including poor temperature resistance, high cost, and undesired toxicity. However, existing eutectogels suffer weak intra‐ and interchain interactions, which culminates in vanishing autofluorescence, weak mechanic and feeble adhesion. Although myriad strategies have been proposed to boost the polymer/polymer interactions within gels, the processes are time‐consuming, which are not suitable for mass production or emergent deployment. Herein, to deal with it, a facile solvation chemistry is leveraged to build dynamic rigid network via incorporating active polymer backbones and DESs. Within these eutectogels, DESs play a magnet‐like role, and physically cluster polymer chains together via multiple noncovalent forces, thus intensifying polymer/polymer and DESs/polymer interactions. This solvation network bestows rare autofluorescence and unprecedentedly high strength, toughness, and adhesion among reported analogues, even in harsh conditions. Moreover, the mechanism of solvation chemistry is fully scrutinized for the first time. It is believed that this facile strategy can be easily expanded to the orchestrations of other soft materials. In mass production, injection molding plays a vital role in manufacturing various parts with complex settings. As perfluoroalkoxy alkane (PFA) injection‐molded products are widely used in immersion system, dimensional quality needs more attention. However, there is limited research on the dimension defects of PFA injection‐molded products. This study focused on the influence of mold design and process parameters on PFA part shrinkage, using mold flow simulation and orthogonal testing separately. Several gate locations and sizes were simulated to minimize shrinkage in mold design. Displacements varied with gate locations, and shrinkage decreased with larger gate sizes. The Taguchi method analyzed process parameters' impact on shrinkage. The results indicated that the injection rate had the most significant effect on the shrinkage of tube length, while melt temperature, holding pressure, and screw speed affected the shrinkage of tubes' outside diameter. Different flow directions exhibited variance in shrinkage. Using max–min normalization, the two shrinkage values reached 0.00972, whereas the smallest value obtained in the orthogonal experiment was 0.1545 in run 3. Thus, optimizing mold design and process parameters were two effective methods to reduce shrinkage. The emerging world of 3D food printing is reviewed. Its role in food manufacturing, including benefits and impacts, underemphasized gastrophysical aspects, and limitations are discussed. Foods can be digitally designed and physically prepared using the layer-by-layer deposition of food components, unleashing opportunities to deliver nutritionally personalized food and new food-human interactions. Developing stable, highly active, and economical non-precious metal catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has been highly demanded in the new energy field since it can meet the industrial demands of large-scale electrocatalytic water splitting. A novel FeP/Ni 2 P/Fe 0.64 Ni 0.36 /C (FeNiP–FeNi–C) nanofiber was prepared by electrospinning and high-temperature phosphating. Notably, the good dispersion of FeP, Ni 2 P, and FeNi alloy nanoparticles in the nanocarbon fiber greatly increased the number of electroactive sites, and the synergistic effect between the FeP/Ni 2 P heterogeneous interface and FeNi alloy significantly improved the inherent activity of each site. Moreover, the carbon nanofibers enhanced the long-term durability of the catalyst by preventing the corrosion of the FeP, Ni 2 P, and FeNi alloy particles. Therefore, the optimal FeNiP–FeNi–C catalyst revealed exceptionally high OER activity, with overpotentials of 364 mV and 236 mV at 50 mA cm−2 and 10 mA cm−2 respectively, and the slope of Tafel of 61.00 mV·dec−1. This catalyst performs significantly better than commercial RuO 2 catalysts in alkaline electrolytes. Ammonia becomes one of the indispensable raw materials in production and life, with the continuous development of industry. Ammonia pollution of the environment is becoming more and more serious, so the adsorption of ammonia is essential. In this paper, a new biochar material based on tannic acid was developed. The tannic acid was self-polymerized using different activators (K2CO3, KHCO3, KOH). Tannic acid biochar (TAB-X) was obtained by pyrolytic carbonization reaction at 800 ℃. The biochar was treated with phosphoric acid 10% by mass (TAB-X-10%PO4), and unlike other biochar materials, the specific surface area and hydroxyl content were increased after acidification, but there were no acidic functional groups. It is noteworthy that the specific surface area of TAB-KOH increased from 22 m2/g to 667 m2/g after acidification. The adsorption capacity of ammonia vapor reached 342.6 mg/g. It is proposed that the adsorption mechanism is an adsorption process in which hydroxyl groups on the surface of TAB-X firstly adsorb water, and after that ammonia gas is then dissolved in the water molecules on the surface of the biochar. These results highlight the great potential of TAB as an adsorbent for the adsorption of ammonia, in addition to the low price of raw materials and the simple preparation conditions of this preparation process, which corresponds with the conditions for mass production as well as practical application. We previously used a grinder to prepare cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) that were then added to pulp to improve the wet strength of paper, with subsequent alkali treatment further improving its wet tensile strength. However, mass production of CNF using ultra-fine grinders is not feasible; moreover, fabricating paper sheets by first preparing CNFs and adding them to pulp is a complex process. Therefore, in this study, we directly fibrillated pulp using a refiner instead separately preparing CNFs, with the refined pulp used to make paper sheets, thereby simplifying the process. The resulting dried sheets were subsequently treated with 8 and 16 wt% NaOH, after which the co-reinforcing effect of the refiner and NaOH treatments on the wet tensile strength of paper was examined. Unexpectedly, wet tensile strength of 39 and 45 MPa was achieved. These values are higher than values obtained using the CNFs and NaOH treatment, and comparable to the dry strength of untreated and unrefined pulp sheet. Moreover, the dewatering time of the refiner-treated pulp was significantly shorter than that of the CNF-mixed pulp, which reduces the time required to prepare paper. The mass production of uniform, high-quality polymer nanofibers remains a challenge. To enhance spinning yield, a multi-string standing wave electrospinning apparatus was developed by incorporating a string array into a standing wave electrospinning device. The process parameters such as string spacing, quantity, and phase difference were optimized, and their effects on the electric field distribution within the spinning area were analyzed using electric field simulations. When the string spacing was less than 40 mm or the number of strings exceeded two, the electric field strength significantly decreased due to electric field interference. However, this interference could be effectively mitigated by setting the string standing wave phase difference to half a period. The optimal string array parameters were identified as string spacing of 40 mm, two strings, and a phase difference of half a period. Multi-string standing wave electrospinning produced fibers with diameters similar to those obtained with single-string standing wave electrospinning (178 ± 72 nm vs. 173 ± 48 nm), but the yield increased by 88.7%, reaching 2.17 g/h, thereby demonstrating the potential for the large-scale production of nanofibers. The demand for lithium resources is growing rapidly due to the continuous development of the lithium‐ion battery, which plays an important part in the renewable energy industry. Global sources of lithium are ores and brine, of which 59% are distributed in saline brine. However, the significant lithium resources in saline brine have not been fully utilized. The electrochemical deintercalation method (EDM) for lithium extraction from saline brine is a promising technique because of its environmental friendliness, high selectivity, and cost‐effectiveness. Nevertheless, the application of EDM is greatly limited by the easy dissolution of electrode materials like LiMn2O4 and the cost of mass production. Also, there are a few existing review articles on the EDM for lithium extraction. To address this gap, this review provides a comprehensive overview of the current methods for lithium extraction from saline brine, systematically summarizes the technical status of the EDM, and pays special attention to the preparation method and modification of electrode materials. Centerless grinding is one of the most performance machining methods and is used in the mass production of automotive parts and rolling bearings. Shoe-type centerless grinding allows precise machining of the outer and inner shaped surfaces of bearing rings. Reducing tolerances on the size and shape of bearing parts requires improved centerless grinding. The most difficult thing is to ensure the roundness is less than 1 μm. This requires the development of mathematical models of a high degree of adequacy. This paper presents a new estimation method for geometric stability based on computer simulation. A mathematical model of centerless location on shoes with the high degree of adequacy to the real process has been developed. The main innovations of the developed method were a numerical algorithm for searching for contact points between the part and the shoes and equation for determining the part center as the point of intersection of the trajectory of its movement along the opposite shoes. Based on computer simulation, the trajectories of movement of the profile points were studied and the patterns of geometric stability were established. An evaluation indicator is proposed in the form of the maximum trajectory error of the profile point during one full turn of the part. The possibility of optimizing machining by setting up shoe angles has been confirmed. The mass production of µLEDs requires an upscaling approach on 200 mm wafers, which implies the deployment of a technology that achieves zero defectivity without liftoff. In this report, Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) processing is successfully optimized for nanostructuring GaN‐based Silicon‐On‐Insulator (SOI) substrates. The etching of SiO2/GaN/AlN/Si/SiO2 layers using different plasmas is conducted and multi‐layer nanopillars 100–200 mm in diameter are fabricated. This approach generates zero‐defect arrays of pillars, which is particularly advantageous for the growth process. In addition, the SiO2 at the bottom of the pillar allows it to twist during the subsequent GaN regrowth, as this layer becomes soft at the growth temperature >1000 °C. This ability to deform enables a coalescence of pillars into layers with reduced dislocation density. As a result, high‐quality GaN microplatelets and µLEDs are grown via a bottom‐up approach based on pendeoepitaxy using metal–organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE). The fabricated µLEDs have a very smooth surface with a roughness of 0.6 nm which facilitated the implementation of an easy and simple transfer protocol. Adhesive tape and metalmetal bonding, are used to bond the µLEDs onto a metal‐coated silicon substrate. The mass production of high-quality graphene is required for industrial application as a future electronic material. However, the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) systems previously studied for graphene production face bottlenecks in terms of quality, speed, and reproducibility. Herein, we report a novel conveyor CVD system that enables rapid graphene synthesis using liquid precursors. Pristine and nitrogen-doped graphene samples of a size comparable to a smartphone (15 cm × 5 cm) are successfully synthesized at temperatures of 900, 950, and 1000 °C using butane and pyridine, respectively. Raman spectroscopy allows optimization of the rapid-synthesis conditions to achieve uniformity and high quality. By conducting compositional analysis via X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy as well as electrical characterization, it is confirmed that graphene synthesis and nitrogen doping degree can be adjusted by varying the synthesis conditions. Testing the corresponding graphene samples as gas-sensor channels for NH3 and NO2 and evaluating their response characteristics show that the gas sensors exhibit polar characteristics in terms of gas adsorption and desorption depending on the type of gas, with contrasting characteristics depending on the presence or absence of nitrogen doping; nitrogen-doped graphene exhibits superior gas-sensing sensitivity and response speed compared with pristine graphene. Thermal tolerance and preference are key parameters impacting agricultural production systems. In this study, the impact of larval diet on black soldier fly thermal tolerance and preference across life‐stages and sexes was examined. Larvae were fed either a low‐protein high‐carbohydrate synthetic diet (i.e., P7C35), a high‐protein low‐carbohydrate synthetic diet (i.e., P35C7), or the Gainesville diet (i.e., C) as a control and reference. Our results demonstrate that the impacts of larval diet on black soldier fly thermal tolerance and preference could be stage and sex specific. The mean heat knockdown temperatures (HKT) ranged between 46.6 and 47.9 °C. Synthetic diets resulted in greater HKT and the difference decreased form larvae (e.g., ∼1 °C) to adults (e.g., ∼0.2 °C). The mean chill‐coma recovery time (CCRT) ranged between 8.3 and 21.6 min. Not much differences were detected between diets, but CCRT became longer from larvae to adults. The mean thermal preference ranged between 13.6 and 29.5 °C. Larvae fed synthetic diets preferred much lower temperatures than the control diet. A bimodal distribution was observed for adults regardless of sex. Differences on body mass, lipid, and protein contents were detected among diets; however, more research should be done before any conclusions can be linked to their thermal traits. These findings highlight the importance of considering the ingredients and nutritional makeup of larval diets when optimizing temperature management protocols for mass production of black soldier flies. Corcyra cephalonica (Stainton, 1866) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is the common factitious host for mass culturing of several natural enemies due to its ease of mass production, adaptability to a variety of rearing conditions and its beneficial impact on reared insects. Our study aimed to determine the effect of various diets on the morphometric of C. cephalonica in different life stages. Based on pooled data of both the generations, longest (0.019 and 0.014 mm) morphometric dimension of eggs measured on D5 - Maize (48.5%) + Sorghum (48.5%) + Groundnut (3%) and D7 - Bajra (32.33%) + Maize (32.33%) + Wheat (32.33%) + Sugar (3%) were at par in both the diets, however shortest (0.014 and 0.009 mm) on D3 - Wheat (100%) diet. The respective values for maximum length and breadth of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th larval, pre-pupal, pupal instars and adults female and male were (1.07 and 0.21 mm), (4.51 and 0.82 mm), (7.12 and 1.34 mm), (10.39 and 1.65 mm) and (12.98 and 2.14 mm), (9.94 and 2.51 mm), (10.32 and 2.79 mm), (10.53 and 2.46 mm) and (8.82 and 1.91 mm) on D5 diet whereas minimum (0.86 and 0.16 mm), (3.33 and 0.55 mm), (5.41 and 0.89 mm), (8.66 and 1.28 mm) and (11.14 and 1.37 mm), (9.46 and 2.25 mm), (7.76 and 2.19 mm), (8.28 and 1.50 mm) and (7.26 and 1.44 mm) were measured on D3 diet. From the present findings, it is concluded that D5 was the best diet for the rearing of C. cephalonica. In semiconductor production processes, controlling and inspecting contamination particle defects are extremely important because even a small particle within any stage of the process can remarkably affect the quality of the final products. Particle contamination can be critically detrimental in every process, thereby reducing production yield in semiconductor processes. In this study, we investigated the correlation between the actual defect rate and the probability of contamination particle defect observed by a commercially available automated visual inspection (AVI) system in semiconductor backend processes. During mass production, we observed that contamination particles produced in a thermal process were transported to various locations and caused defects. Particles sized 45 µm were observed most frequently compared with the actual contamination particles and AVI images. To effectively detect particle defect on wafer surfaces, particles smaller than 100 µm should also be considered. The hallmark of this study is that we effectively controlled particles larger than 50 µm using our AVI equipment after the die attach approach to reduce defects in the wire bonding process in advance. We provide monitoring methods for contamination control of particles present in the thermal process on the AVI system applied in mass production processes. Finally, we suggest a plausible entrainment pathway of the contamination particles and present visual images of actual contamination particles observed using an optical microscope. Freeform micro-structures can exhibit advanced and useful functions of optical components by guiding beam path. Growing interest has been shown in fabricating large-scale 3D freeform micro-structures on hard-to-cut materials as mould for mass production. Currently, ultrasonic vibration-assisted diamond turning is a feasible and efficient technique to fabricate these structures made of steel. However, the tool path linear error increases significantly with the increase in workpiece dimension in fast tool/slow slide servo diamond turning of microstructures with sharp edges. In this research, using Mirrax 40 steel as the mould material and applying a high-frequency ultrasonic tooling system (UTS2) to ease the machining of steel workpiece. To reduce linear error in machining large-scale 3D microstructures, diamond sculpturing instead of diamond turning was applied. This machining technology is called ultrasonic vibration-assisted sculpturing (UVAS). The principle of UVAS, tool path determination, surface generation, tool parameter selection as well as linear error of the tool path and form error induced by ultrasonic vibration kinematics, were comprehensively investigated, in order to fabricate an aspheric microlens array and a freeform microlens array with small theoretical error and reliable slide dynamic response. Furthermore, a large-scale freeform microlens array was fabricated and a measurement method was used to evaluate the machining accuracy. UVAS achieved a form error of less than 0.5 μm and an arithmetic surface roughness Sa of 5 nm for the large-scale freeform microlens array. • Ultrasonic vibration-assisted diamond sculpturing was used to reduce linear error in machining large-scale microstructures. • Form error induced by kinematical overcut in ultrasonic vibration-assisted sculpturing was theoretically clarified. • Tool vibration was eliminated to cut aspheric and freeform microlens arrays by various tool path modification methods. • A method based on finding structural peaks was used to evaluate 3D global form accuracy of large-scale 3D microstructures. In terms of tissue culture, potato microtubers (MTs) have a number of advantages over conventional plants. These advantages include their small size, which greatly facilitates storage, transport, and germplasm exchange compared to in vitro plants. One effective solution for the production and mass propagation of healthy MTs is the use of temporary immersion systems (TISs). In this study, in a SETISTM system containing kinetin/gibberellic acid (GA)/indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) hormones, we investigated the effects of different nutrient media on the morphological characteristics of potato explants and MTs. We determined the optimal cycling duration (3 h) with an immersion frequency of 2 min. The results revealed that the optimal nutrient medium for culturing single-node potato explants in a SETISTM bioreactor was the M7 medium containing kinetin (2 mg/L), GA (0.5 mg/L), and IBA (0.5 mg/L). The optimal nutrient medium for obtaining potato MTs was the M1 medium (hormone-free) with a high concentration of sucrose (9%) at 18 °C under dark growing conditions. Diamond-coated tools have extremely extraordinary physical and chemical properties and have become ideal tools for machining the emerging materials that are hard to machine. In mass production of diamond-coated milling tools, the homogeneity of diamond coatings has always been sought for and is highly influenced by the uniformity of temperature field near the tool substrate. In order to further improve the uniformity of the temperature field and deposit diamond coatings with uniform thickness, a novel hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) device with separated worktables and plates for mass production of diamond-coated milling tools is proposed. First, the simulation models of previous device with integrated worktable versus new device with separated worktables are established using finite volume method. The simulation results shows that the temperature distribution is more uniform in the device with separated worktables. Second, temperature measurement experiments are conducted, which prove the correctness of simulation model. Subsequently, experiments involving the deposition of diamond coatings on milling tools are conducted using two kinds of worktables, utilizing the same parameters as in the simulation. Finally, high-speed milling experiments are conducted to test the diamond-coated milling tools. According to the results of SEM, Raman and high-speed milling experiments, it can be concluded that the homogeneity of coating thickness and cutting performance of the milling tools produced by HFCVD device with separated worktables and plates are better. The last decade has seen dramatic progress in research on FETs with 2D channels. Starting from the single devices fabricated using exfoliated flakes in the early 2010s, by the early 2020s, 2D FETs being trialed for mass production and vertical stacking of 2D channels made by leading semiconductor companies. However, the industry is focused solely on transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) channels coupled with conventional 3D oxide insulators such as Al2O3 and HfO2. This has resulted in numerous challenges, such as poor-quality interfaces and reliability limitations due to oxide traps. At the same time, the alternative routes for 2D FETs offered by laboratory (LAB) research have not been appreciated until now, even though the use of the native oxides of 2D channels has recently resulted in the first 2D FinFETs. Considering the research progress achieved in the last decade, from this perspective, we will discuss the main challenges for industry integration of 2D FETs and also suggest possible future steps which could propel these emerging technologies towards market applications. Binder jetting (BJT), a sinter-based additive manufacturing method, has great potential to enable the mass production of metal parts because of its high productivity and low-cost printers. The ability to manufacture aluminum parts by BJT will lead to the fabrication of heat-dissipation devices whose cooling efficiency is improved through unique geometric designs. Although liquid-phase sintering is effective for densifying aluminum green parts without applying pressure, liquid decreases the apparent viscosity of the components, resulting in deformation. The ability to predict the sintering-induced deformation minimizes the costly and time-consuming trial and error required to produce parts with high accuracy. We used numerical simulations to predict the deformation in an aluminum finned heatsink, which is one of the most versatile heat-dissipation devices. The viscoplastic finite element method, in which the viscosity for liquid-phase sintering was calibrated on the basis of experiments, accurately simulated the changes in shrinkage over time during sintering. The calibrated simulator analyzed the effect of the heatsink's design on its deformation behavior, whereas thicker fin plates decreased the tilting of the fins and increased the bending of the base plate, and the number of fins hardly affected either deformation behavior. Photochromic textiles have a wide range of applications in the field of fashion and smart textiles due to the qualities of rapid light responsiveness and reversibility of reaction. The principle and classification of photochromic materials are summarized. We discussed the latest research progress of photochromic textile preparation technology including direct grafting, dyeing and printing, spinning, layer-by-layer self-assembly, and microencapsulation, and summarized the advantages and disadvantages of each method. Direct grafting method can precisely control the number of materials, but some methods need professional technology and equipment. Dyeing and printing method is simple and economical, suitable for mass production, but the dyes are easy to fade and may pollute the environment. Spinning method spins photochromic substances into the fibers, but the preparation process is complicated. Layer-by-layer self-assembly method can accurately control the structure of the materials and improve stability, but the preparation cycle is long and cumbersome. Microencapsulation can effectively isolate the materials, improve stability, and has the potential for mass production. One of the additive manufacturing techniques available is Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), which offers advantages in design flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and the ability to produce intricate designs. Therefore, FDM for the 3D-printed vehicle's car spoiler is a subject that can be explored. The FDM technology can significantly reduce time and cost before mass production, and the vehicle's car spoiler was used as the case study in this research. The research investigates the mechanical properties of various commercial PLA composite filaments, addressing the lack of specifications provided by manufacturers. Testing four types of filaments--PLA/bamboo, PLA/coconut, PLA/wood, and PLA/metal. This research also emphasizes the conceptual design generation and selection for the passenger vehicle's spoiler. Five design concepts were generated using the morphological chart for the passenger vehicle's spoiler. The Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method was used as the decisionmaking tool. As a result, PLA/metal, with 53.65 MPa and 70.23 MPa, showed the highest tensile and flexural strength values, respectively. Design concept 5 with the infill pattern of rib + I was the best from the finite element analysis (FEA) using SolidWorks simulation software. Finally, the TOPSIS technique revealed PLA/metal as the best PLA composite filament for car spoilers, scoring first in performance score with a value of 0.5774. This study demonstrates that by using a systematic approach, researchers may choose the best design concept and material choice by combining the conceptual design, experimental, simulation, and TOPSIS methods. Fashion exists at the intersection of art, culture, and commerce, serving as a specific form of cultural industry and embodying a complexity that can be both fascinating and overwhelming. This article explores the main theoretical connections between the notions of fashion, mass art, and art, highlighting eight significant challenges within the grey zones of these three concepts. These eight challenging issues are: authenticity and lack of authenticity (1); popularity and unpopularity (2); market determination (3); mass production (4); democratization and availability (5); standardization and uniformization (6); cultural effect (7); and style and taste (8). In the second half of the article, I provide contemporary fashion examples (tabi shoes, the Barbie phenomenon, the Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion exhibition) that underscore the inherent complexity of these eight issues. Although pervious reduces surface runoff and replenishes groundwater resources, industrial applications are hindered by uncertainty in properties during mass productions. Most experimental studies correlated design parameters to performance parameters predominantly analysing porosity measured from water replacement method. This explains only a fraction of porosity and leads to inappropriate correlations between the influencing parameters. This study quantified porosity using a novel image analysis. 480 samples of pervious concrete were cast varying aggregate to cement ratio and compaction levels and performance parameters such as, wet-density, compressive strength, apparent, actual and effective porosities were assessed. The developed novel image analysis method facilitates accurate computation of porosity and actual, apparent and effective porosities was analysed quantified and optimised. An optimum A/C ratio was observed as 4.0 corresponding to 30 blows of compaction and a resultant actual porosity of approximately 0.2. Glycogen is a highly branched polyglucan utilized as a carbohydrate reserve in major living systems. Industrially, it is used as a prebiotic and in the nanoencapsulation of drugs and nutraceuticals. In this study, optimal fermentation conditions enabling the highest glycogen accumulation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae were experimentally evaluated for possible mass production. Production efficiency was assessed by comparing specific growth rates, specific glycogen production rates, and glycogen yields under each condition. The results demonstrated that fermentation at 30 °C with an aeration rate of 3 vvm using a medium containing 120 g/L glucose without ethanol was optimal for robust cell growth and maximum glycogen yield. Additionally, a rich medium outperformed a minimally defined medium, and a single sugar carbon source, as opposed to mixed sugars, resulted in significantly higher cell growth and glycogen yields (p < 0.05). The optimized fermentation parameters enabled a glycogen production rate of up to 0.232 ± 0.012 g-glycogen/g-cell/h and a glycogen yield of 0.603 ± 0.006 g-glycogen/g-glucose. Photoplethysmography (PPG) technology enables the measurement of multiple physiological and psychological parameters with low‐cost wearable sensors and is reshaping modern healthcare. Advanced materials play a vital role in improving reliability and accuracy of PPG sensors. Recently, various advanced materials have been explored to optimize PPG sensor design, while some challenges exist toward large‐scale validation and mass production. This paper focuses on advanced materials applied in the photodetectors, light sources, and circuits of PPG sensors. The materials are categorized into four groups: inorganic, organic, nanomaterials, and hybrid materials. The properties and fabrication processes are summarized. Other technical details including the mode of operation, measurement sites, testing, and validation are discussed. The egg parasitoid Mesocomys trabalae Yao, Yang, and Zhao is used as a biocontrol agent against the emerging defoliator pest Caligula japonica Moore in East Asia. It has been proven that the eggs of Antheraea pernyi Guérin-Méneville can be used as a factitious host for the mass production of M. trabalae. We examined the parasitic behavior and morphological characteristics of the developmental stages of M. trabalae reared on A. pernyi eggs. The parasitic behavior of M. trabalae encompasses 10 steps, involving searching, antennation, locating the oviposition site, drilling, probing, detecting, oviposition, host feeding, grooming, and resting, with the oviposition step further divided into 3 stages. We determined that the parasitoid released an egg during the second stage of the oviposition step, while her body remained in a relatively static state. Among all the steps in parasitic behavior, probing occupied the longest time, accounting for 26.33% of the entire parasitism process. It was followed by oviposition (15.88%), drilling (15.10%), antennation (13.09%), detecting (10.79%), host feeding (10.02%), and the remaining steps, each occupying less than 5.00% of the total time in steps. The pre-emergence of adult M. trabalae comprised of 4 stages: egg (0–1 day), larva (2–6 days), prepupa (7–11 days), pupa (12–20 days), followed by the development into an adult, and it usually took 20–22 days to develop from an egg into an adult at 25°C. Cadra cautella (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is a pest in barn, and its eggs are often utilized as an alternative prey or as hosts for mass production of insect predators and parasitoids. To aid in developing a mass-rearing system for C. castella, the suitability of using an artificial diet based on brown rice flour and whole brown rice was compared using the age-stage, 2-sex life table. Compared with those reared on brown rice, the insects reared on an artificial diet had a shorter preadult period (32.08 vs 37.38 d), higher fecundity (468.14 vs 356.20 eggs/female), greater intrinsic rate of increase (0.1509 vs 0.1145 d−1), and higher net reproductive rate (199.28 vs 103.52 offspring). Small populations were required to rear the moth on an artificial diet to achieve the same daily production of C. cautella. Still, the food expense was only 60.2% of that of C. cautella reared on brown rice. Approximately 99.44% of the eggs in each rearing procedure could be supplied as alternative prey for predators, with the remainder served to maintain the colonies for subsequent batches. Only eggs laid within 6 d would be utilized to ensure the high quality of alternative prey for the mass production of predacious bugs. Additionally, a multifunctional device was designed for moth rearing and egg collection, reducing labor input and minimizing health risks for workers coping with inhaled scales. To encourage the production of natural enemies, a cost-effective diet for maintaining a sustainable colony, and a system for daily egg-harvesting of alternative prey were proposed. As the market for hybrid and electric vehicles expands, electric motor production and testing technology must be continuously improved to meet the cost and quality requirements of mass production. In order to detect faults in motors during the production process, a condition monitoring tool is used for the motor end line. During most condition monitoring, the motor operates in a static state where the speed of the motor remains constant and the voltage/current is recorded for a certain period. This process usually takes a long time and requires a loader to drag the motor to a standstill at a constant speed. In this paper, various transient process testing methods are introduced. For these processes, only transient operation of the motor, such as acceleration, loss, or a short circuit, is required. Wire laser direct energy deposition enables the mass production of large-scale industrial components and parts. However, energy utilization efficiency is limited in conventional wire laser material deposition to avoid keyhole defects, resulting in a low deposition efficiency. This work presents a high-efficiency wire laser material deposition process that increases energy utilization by generating a keyhole in the filler wire, which can also avoid the keyhole defects in the deposited sample. The influence of process parameters on deposition quality and efficiency was thoroughly examined to determine the process window. A high deposition efficiency of 0.87 kg/(h kW) for 316L stainless steel was achieved with a laser power of 3 kW, approximately three times that of the conventional wire laser material deposition process. Microfluidic devices have immense potential for widespread community use, but a current bottleneck is the transition from research prototyping into mass production because the gold standard prototyping strategy is too costly and labor intensive when scaling up fabrication throughput. For increased throughput, it is common to mold devices out of thermoplastics due to low per-unit costs at high volumes. However, conventional fabrication methods have high upfront development expenses with slow mold fabrication methods that limit the speed of design evolution for expedited marketability. To overcome this limitation, we propose a rapid prototyping protocol to fabricate thermoplastic devices from a stereolithography (SLA) 3D printed template through intermediate steps akin to those employed in soft lithography. We apply this process towards the design of self-operating capillaric circuits, well suited for deployment as low-cost decentralized assays. Rapid development of these geometry- and material-dependent devices benefits from prototyping with thermoplastics. We validated the constructed capillaric circuits by performing an autonomous, pre-programmed, bead-based immunofluorescent assay for protein quantification. Phase-change memory (PCM) using chalcogenide films composed of Ge–Sb–Te alloys is the only commercially available nonvolatile memory for storage class memory. Recently, superlattice films of GeTe and Sb2Te3, called interfacial PCM (iPCM), have attracted attention for further increasing the switching speed and reducing energy consumption. It has been reported that the iPCM device exhibits both unipolar- and bipolar-type resistive switching depending on the method of voltage application, and research is being conducted to advance its applications. However, all iPCMs reported thus far have been formed at high temperatures beyond the crystallization temperatures of GeTe and Sb2Te3 using vacuum chambers equipped with a heating stage, making mass production and practical application difficult. Here, we report on fabricated superlattice composed of S-doped GeTe and Sb2Te3 layers by combining room temperature deposition with subsequent two-step annealing. Upon evaluating the performance of this superlattice film as a bipolar-type iPCM, it was found to exhibit characteristics comparable to those of bipolar-type iPCM fabricated from high-temperature deposited superlattices. Fiat (Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino) was for a good part of the twentieth century Italy’s largest industrial company. Historians and sociologists have extensively investigated its productive expansion in the automotive industry, as well as the leading role it played in introducing and applying Taylorist and Fordist techniques of mass production to the Italian manufacturing sector. The analysis of the organization of the social policies that the company established for its employees from the 1920s onward has been, however, less considered. Yet, the complex of welfare, recreational and cultural services made available to workers was so pervasive that it seems interesting to reconstruct its history and assess the impact it had on the lives of employees. It can be argued that the corporate welfare made up by the Turin company during the years when Vittorio Valletta led it (1946–1966) was an integral element of the Fordist model of mass production, aimed not only to counterbalance the strain of assembly line work with social benefits, but also to replicate in daily life the regimentation that office and factory workers experienced in the hours they spent in the mills. The fabrication of the flexible devices with excellent photovoltaic performance and stability is critical for the commercialization of organic solar cells (OSCs). Herein, the conjugated dimer acceptor DY‐TVCl and the non‐conjugated dimer acceptor DY‐3T based on the monomer MY‐BO are synthesized to regulate the molecular glass transition temperatures (Tg) for improving the morphology stability of active layer films. And the crack onset strain values for the blend films based on dimer acceptors are superior than that of small molecule, which are beneficial for the preparation of flexible devices. Accordingly, the binary device based on PM6:DY‐TVCl achieves a maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 18.01%. Meanwhile, the extrapolated T80 (time to reach 80% of initial PCE) lifetimes of the PM6:DY‐TVCl‐based device and PM6:DY‐3T‐based device are 3091 and 2227 h under 1‐sun illumination, respectively, which are better than that of the PM6:MY‐BO‐based device (809 h). Furthermore, the flexible devices based on DY‐TVCl and DY‐3T exhibit the efficiencies of 15.23% and 14.34%, respectively. This work affords a valid approach to improve the stability and mechanical robustness of OSCs, as well as ensuring the reproducibility of organic semiconductors during mass production. Background: The fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is an aggressive pest species that causes severe economic losses in outbreak regions. Use of FAW natural enemies, particularly native parasitoids, has been suggested as a promising control strategy. Campoletis chlorideae Uchida (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) is a solitary ichneumonid larval endoparasitoid with a broad host range that includes S. frugiperda. However, its parasitism rate, developmental stages, and population dynamics during parasitization of S. frugiperda remain unclear. A field survey was conducted to determine the emergence rate and sex ratio of C. chlorideae, evaluated the biological control performance, and investigated the production potential of it on the individually reared and group-reared S. frugiperda through age-stage, two-sex life tables, respectively. Results: The results showed that C. chlorideae parasitizing individually reared FAW resulted for the parasitoid in a lifetime total fecundity (F) of 301.5 ± 16.4 eggs/female, a net reproduction rate (R0) of 62.03 ± 9.07 adult females/female, an overall life span of females of 28.3 ± 0.52 days, and an intrinsic rate of increase (r) of 0.1946 ± 0.0076 day−1. In contrast, the parameters of F, R0, overall life span of females, and r were 87.71 ± 6.32 pupae/female, 6.02 ± 1.61 adult females/female, 25.21 ± 0.79 days, and 0.0918 ± 0.0148 day−1 in group-reared S. frugiperda. Conclusions: This study suggests that C. chlorideae has a promising biological control potential against S. frugiperda. Before leaving the factory, lithium-ion battery (LIB) cells are screened to exclude voltage-abnormal cells, which can increase the fault rate, troubleshooting difficulty, and degrade pack performance. However, the time interval to obtain the detection results through the existing voltage-abnormal cell method is too long, which can seriously affect production efficiency and delay shipment, especially in the mass production of LIBs when facing a large number of time-critical orders. In this paper, we propose a data-driven voltage-abnormal cell detection method, using a fast model with simple architecture, which can detect voltage-abnormal cells based on the multi-source time series data of the LIB without a time interval. Firstly, our method transforms the different source data of a cell into a multi-source time series data representation and utilizes a recurrent-based data embedding to model the relation within it. Then, a simplified MobileNet is used to extract hidden feature from the embedded data. Finally, we detect the voltage-abnormal cells according to the hidden feature with a cell classification head. The experiment results show that the accuracy and average running time of our model on the voltage-abnormal cell detection task is 95.42% and 0.0509 ms per sample, which is a considerable improvement over existing methods. Therefore, it is extremely crucial to have a technique for the mass production of ultrathin 1T‐MoS2 layers. Here, a direct, single‐step, and ultra‐fast technique that produces high‐quality ultrathin layers of 1T‐MoS2 with a production rate as high as 58 g h−1 without the usage of any intercalates or solvents is demonstrated. The exfoliated ultrathin 1T‐MoS2 layers exhibited ≈100% 1T‐phase with a large specific surface area (67 m2 g−1), higher electrical conductivity (140 S m−1), high thermal stability (up to 500 °C) and hydrophilicity (water contact angle (WCA): ≈23.4⁰). The ultrathin 1T‐MoS2 layers showed a higher specific capacitance of 420 F g−1; perhaps an ideal candidate for the electrodes of supercapacitors. Moreover, the ultrathin 1T‐MoS2 layer exhibited better mechanical flexibility and retained its original performance on bending between 0 and 180⁰ angles. Further, to assess the adeptness of the protocol, An initial trial is done on other transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) i.e., tungsten disulfide (WS2), and observe similar results. The object of research are models of optimal logic circuits based on universal Peirce-Webb functions. The problem solved is the efficiency of the technique for simplifying the Peirce-Webb functions. The extension of the non-standard system to the simplification of Peirce-Webb functions makes it possible to discover new rules of equivalent transformations of Boolean functions, and to complete the simplification procedure in one step. A feature of the simplification of functions in the Peirce-Webb basis by a non-standard system is fixing the digital project at the level of abstraction, followed by the application of the mechanism of logical synthesis to generate the corresponding equivalent at the level of gates of the logic circuit. The result of the transformation of the terms of the binary matrix in the end is some combinatorial system, metadata that can explain other data, for example, determine the minimum function for another logical basis. The interpretation of the result consists in the use of combinatorial properties of binary structures of functions in the Peirce-Webb basis and binary structures of functions in the basic basis. These properties do not depend on the selected logical basis, which makes it possible to carry out equivalent transformations on binary matrices of Peirce-Webb functions according to the rules of the algebra of the main basis. It has been experimentally confirmed that a nonstandard system enables: – to reduce the algorithmic complexity of simplifying the Peirce-Webb functions; – to increase the performance of the simplification of Peirce-Webb functions by 200–300 %; – to demonstrate the visibility of the process of simplifying functions. Nature finds ways to realize multi-functional surfaces by modulating nano-scale patterns on their surfaces, enjoying transparent, bactericidal, and/or anti-fogging features. Therein height distributions of nanopatterns play a key role. Recent advancements in nanotechnologies can reach that ability via chemical, mechanical, or optical fabrications. However, they require laborious complex procedures, prohibiting fast mass manufacturing. This paper presents a computational framework to help design multi-functional nano patterns by light. The framework behaves as a surrogate model for the inverse design of nano distributions. The framework's hybrid (i.e., human and artificial) intelligence-based approach helps learn plausible rules of multi-physics processes behind the UV-controlled nano patterning and enriches training data sets. Then the framework's inverse machine learning (ML) model can describe the required UV doses for the target heights of liquid in nano templates. Thereby, the framework can realize multiple functionalities including the desired nano-scale color, frictions, and bactericidal properties. Feasibility test results demonstrate the promising capability of the framework to realize the desired height distributions that can potentially enable multi-functional nano-scale surface properties. This computational framework will serve as a multi-physics surrogate model to help accelerate fast fabrications of nanopatterns with light and ML. The article presents the results of a complex analysis referring to the possibilities of applying different types of construction of forging dies used on a hydraulic hammer lasco HO-U 160 in order to select the optimal solution in the aspect of obtaining the required dimension-shape accuracy. The analysis involved the use of the numerical simulation software FORGE 3.0 NxT. 12 different variants were analyzed, of both different tool constructions and detail arrangements on the die (in a quadruple and sixfold system). The effect of the forces as well as the way of material flow and degree of the forging tool seat's filling were verified. The most ergonomic and technologically justified detail arrangement on the die was described. The results of the numerical simulation analyses were presented with the indication of the pros and cons of the particular solutions. The selected solution of the forging tool construction, implemented in a mass production, was especially discussed to verify of obtained FEM results and improvement actual technology. A method for the formation of nanostractured coatings from ZnO nanorods for use in adsorption gas sensors is presented. It has been shown that ultrasonic spray pyrolysis provides the formation of local growth centers for the formation of ZnO nanorods by the low-temperature hydrothermal synthesis. The obtained ZnO nanorods with a small diameter demonstrate a high concentration of oxygen vacancies in the near-surface region of the nanorods and a high surface concentration of hydroxyl groups. An additional method is proposed for testing seed layers by resistance using a liquid probe based on an indium-gallium melt without the need to apply top contacts. The presented technique is suitable for mass production of sensor coatings. The obtained nanostructured coatings from ZnO nanorods demonstrate a high gas analytical response. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Shelf life is an important determinant of the quality of parasitoids used as natural enemies in augmentation biological control. Cotesia chilonis (Munakata) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), an obligate endoparasitoid of Chilo suppressalis (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), has potential for use through augmentation biological control in China. Here, the effects of cold storage temperature, host status, and larval stage on the biological characteristics of C. chilonis were investigated to extend the agent's shelf life. Results showed that the number of healthy C. chilonis adults obtained was reduced by 3.5% and 47.7% when C. suppressalis larvae in either natural or induced diapause were used as hosts compared to nondiapausing control larvae. Both parasitism and cold storage significantly reduced the supercooling point of nondiapausing C. suppressalis larvae, whereas the opposite result was observed in those of natural diapause. In order to improve the long‐term storage of C. chilonis, nondiapausing C. suppressalis larvae were parasitized for 1, 3, 5, and 7 days to allow C. chilonis to develop into different larval stages before being transferred into cold storage for 30 days at 4 or 10°C. Compared to the control, the C. chilonis cocoon formation and emergence rates of the 1‐day‐old egg treatment group held at 10°C were reduced by 15% and 17%, respectively. The results also showed that the duration of the larval stage of C. chilonis was prolonged fourfold after storage at 4 and 10°C. Individuals held at 10°C had a significantly longer cocoon and adult stage compared to those held at 4°C. The biological parameters and life history of the F1 generation of C. chilonis returned to normal levels under laboratory conditions. In conclusion, C. suppressalis larvae were successfully used to extend the shelf life of C. chilonis for use in augmentative biocontrol programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Selenite fertilization causes toxicity at lower doses than selenate fertilization. • Selenate fertilization favored the dry mass and Se accumulation in the radish and leaves. • Selenite fertilization with 1.8 mg Se dm−3 reduced radishes dry mass. • Se accumulation in radishes and leaves correlated positively and strongly with radishes dry mass. • Selenium fertilization caused changes in the anatomy and physiology of Raphanus sativus L. plants. Selenium (Se), in low doses, provides several beneficial effects, such as plant resistance to various abiotic stresses (e.g. drought stress and low/high temperatures). However, Se excess causes toxicity, with harmful impacts such as a decline in yield. Here, we studied the effects of fertilization with different Se sources and doses applied via soil on Se accumulation, toxicity, as well as on gas exchange, and anatomy of leaves and roots of radish plants. A randomized experimental design was adopted with three replications in a 2 × 3 + 1 factorial arrangement: two Se sources (sodium selenate – Na 2 SeO 4 and sodium selenite – Na 2 SeO 3 ·5H 2 O), three Se doses applied on soil (0.6, 1.2, and 1.8 mg dm−3), and one control treatment (without Se application). Each experimental unit consisted of one pot containing six radish plants. Selenate at 1.8 mg Se dm−3 increased the Se accumulation and radish dry matter. Selenite generally caused significant changes in the anatomical part, mainly in the conductive tissues of the leaves. In leaves with selenite fertilization, it was estimated that the maximum Se accumulation would be 5.9 µg plant−1 with a rate of 2.0 mg Se dm−3. However, it was impossible to estimate the maximum Se accumulation with selenate fertilization because as the dose increased, there were also increases in accumulation, thus presenting a linear regression. The maximum Se accumulation in radishes would be 10.7 µg Se plant −1 with 1.2 mg Se dm−3 by selenite and 45.8 µg Se plant−1 with 5.0 mg Se dm−3 by selenate. Although the highest dry mass production occurred with the 1.8 mg Se dm−3 through selenite, it is recommended to use smaller doses to provide adequate Se consumption selenate. Tissue engineering aims at producing in the laboratory new biological tissues by combining cells, scaffold materials, and biochemistry. Recent successes in the field are promising, but sustainability and reproducibility issues still limit the large-scale applications of this technique. The present work addresses the development of a computational model that describes cell motility in biodegradable hydrogel scaffolds. The goal is to support the understanding and the control of the first stage of tissue formation, when cells seeded into the scaffold congregate to form clusters, necessary precursors of tissue blocks. Cellular migration is treated as an advective/diffusive process modeled via the phase-field approach. The chemo-biological mechanisms incorporated in the modeling framework are: (i) the natural degradation of the hydrogel; (ii) chemotaxis induced by cell-cell signaling pathways; (iii) nutrient diffusion through the construct and its consumption by cells. Each cell initially moves following a random path, subsequently switching to a directed chemically-driven motion when the presence of other cells is sensed in its neighborhood. Numerical results highlight the role of the interplay between nutrient availability in the construct, chemoattractant production, scaffold degradation and cell motility, showing that the proposed model could pave the way towards efficient computationally-aided tools for the optimization of neotissue mass production.
