The objective of this study was to evaluate the body weight gain and the economic viability of Nelore heifers reared on pasture grass Marandu during transition dry-waters receiving energetic, proteic and multiple supplements. Twenty Nelore heifers were used, with average initial body weight of 189.75 ± 21.55 kg distributed in four paddocks of 1.6 ha each. The experimental design was completely randomized (four supplements and five replicates) to evaluate the following supplements: energetic supplement (ES) proteic supplement (PS) and multiple supplement (MS), provided that the amount of 1 kg animal day-1, beyond the exclusive supplement with mineral mixture (MM) ad libitum. Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito dos niveis de inclusao da torta de girassol, como fonte proteica em substituicao ao farelo de soja, em suplementos multiplos para bovinos em pastejo durante periodo seco do ano sobre os parâmetros nutricionais. Foram utilizados cinco novilhos Nelore, nao-castrados, com idade e peso medio inicial de 20 meses e 354,7 kg, respectivamente; distribuidos em cinco piquetes de 0,25 ha cada, formados por Brachiaria brizantha cv Marandu. O experimento foi estruturado em quadrado latino 5 x 5, composto por cinco periodos experimentais de 15 dias cada e cinco animais. A estrategia adotada foi a inclusao da torta de girassol (TG) em niveis crescentes de 0, 270, 406, 540 g/ kg de suplemento, e suplemento composto apenas por mistura mineral fornecido a vontade no cocho (controle). Os suplementos foram formulados para serem isoproteicos (25% PB) e fornecidos na quantidade de 1,5 kg/animal/dia de materia natural. A massa de forragem e a disponibilidade de materia seca pontecialmente digestivel foram de 3.120 e 2.379 Kg MS/ha respectivamente. Foi observado efeito (P 0,10). Houve diferenca significativa para as concentracoes de N-NH3 entre os animais que receberam apenas mistura mineral (8,64 mg/dL) e os bovinos suplementados com 0 (12,61 mg/dL) e 27% (11,79 mg/dL) de inclusao de TG no tempo 4 horas apos a suplementacao. No entanto, a concentracao de N-NH3, entre os animais suplementados, independente da inclusao de TG nao foi significativa (P>0,10), mas foi numericamente menor para os animais suplementados com 40,6 (10,81 mg/dL) e 54% (10,50 mg/ dL) de inclusao de torta de girassol. Conclui-se que a inclusao da torta de girassol na formulacao dos suplementos nao interferiu nos parâmetros nutricionais podendo substituir o farelo de soja em ate 100% sem prejudicar o consumo dos animais, nesse nivel de suplementacao.

Objetivou-se avaliar niveis de suplementos multiplos para novilhas de corte em pastejo restrito, sobre ganho medio diario (GMD), analise economica e consumo de materia seca (CMS), consumo de forragem (CFO), consumo de proteina bruta (CPB) e consumo de nutrientes digestiveis totais (CNDT). Para avaliacao do desempenho e analise economica foram utilizadas 20 novilhas Nelore com 328,45 ± 35,32 kg, em que foram avaliados os seguintes suplementos: controle (SAL) e niveis de suplementacao de 2, 4 e 6 kg/animal/dia, perfazendo as seguintes proporcoes em % do peso corporal (PC): 0,55; 1,11 e 1,66%, respectivamente. Para avaliacao do consumo de nutrientes foram utilizadas outras 5 novilhas Nelore com 344 ± 21,10 kg, em que foram avaliados os mesmos suplementos supracitados alem do nivel 2,22%PCM (8 kg/animal/dia). O GMD apresentou comportamento quadratico; os CMST, PB e CNDT apresentaram comportamento linear crescente e o CMSF linear decrescente em funcao dos niveis de suplementos. A estrategia de fornecimento de 0,55% do PCM proporcionou o melhor retorno economico. A suplementacao de 0,55; 1,11 e 1,66% do PCM para novilhas em pastejo restrito proporciona ganhos adicionais de peso de 608; 762 e 943 g/dia, respectivamente, os quais sao efetivos em promover desempenhos produtivos e economicos semelhantes aos obtidos em sistemas a pasto no periodo das aguas.

The objective was to evaluate the supplementation on the productive response, nutritional parameters and the cost of production of sheep grazing grass Marandu. The experiment lasted 84 days and 20 lambs were used with age and initial body weight of 21.73 kg and four months, as well four rumen fitted sheep of 12 months and 55.00 kg of body weight, divided into four paddocks of 0.1 ha provided, with water and supplements dispenser, to evaluated the following treatments: mineral mix, soybean meal, soybean seed and cottonseed whole. For the average daily gain observed were of 0.061, 0.080, 0.060 and 0.080 kg day-1, respectively, for the mineral mix, soybean meal, soybean seed and cottonseed whole. The average pH values were 6.16, 6.18, 6.25 and 6.23, respectively, for the mineral supplements, soybean meal, soybean seed and cottonseed whole, and values for rumen ammonia nitrogen were 11, 10, 24.77, 22.31 and 29.37 mg dL-1 of rumen fluid, respectively. Supplements of soybean meal and cottonseed whole increased weight gain at 8.75% compared to animals maintained only with mineral salt, however, the mineral salt produced weight gain with lower cost.

Avaliaram-se o balanço de compostos nitrogenados e a síntese de proteína microbiana (PBmic) de vacas alimentadas com dietas contendo diferentes níveis de casca de café (0,0; 8,75; 17,5 e 26,25% da MS, correspondentes a 0,0; 3,5; 7,0 e 10,5% de casca de café na MS total da dieta) em substituição ao milho na ração concentrada. Foram utilizadas 12 vacas da raça Holandesa com produção média de leite de 23,4 kg. A síntese de PBmic foi estimada utilizando-se os derivados de purinas na urina e no leite. Amostras de urina spot dos animais foram coletadas aproximadamente 4 horas após a alimentação da manhã. A análise de regressão não detectou efeito dos níveis de casca de café sobre o consumo de nitrogênio total (441,3 g.dia) e a excreção de N na urina (190,8 g/dia) e no leite (114,7 g/dia). A casca de café aumentou a excreção de N nas fezes e promoveu balanço de N negativo. As excreções de alantoína na urina (294,6 mmol/dia), alantoína no leite (21,3 mmol/dia), ácido úrico na urina (42,3 mmol/dia) e de derivados de purinas totais (358,2 mmol/dia) e a síntese de proteína microbiana (266,3 g/dia) não foram influenciadas pela adição de casca de café. Todavia, a casca de café não alterou a eficiência de síntese de PBmic, estimada em 136,8 g de PBmic/kg de nutrientes digestíveis totais. The effects of replacing ground corn with coffee hulls on N balance and microbial protein synthesis of lactating dairy cows were evaluated in this trial. Twelve crossbred Holstein-Zebu cows yielding on average 23.4 kg/day of milk were used. The microbial protein synthesis was estimated by excretion of purine derivatives in urine and milk. Animas were fed diets containing the following coffee hulls levels (% DM): 0.0, 3.5, 7.0 or 10.5%. Spot urine samples were collected approximately 4 hours post-feeding. Regression analysis showed no effects of dietary coffee hulls levels on total nitrogen intake (441.3 g/day) and excretion of urine N (190.8 g/day) and milk N (114.7 g/day). However, feeding coffee hulls to lactating dairy cows increased fecal N excretion resulting in negative N balance. The increased dietary levels of coffee hulls did not affect excretions of milk allantoin (294.6 mmol/day), urinary allantoin (21.3 mmol/day), uric acid (42.3 mmol/day), and purine derivatives (358.2 mmol/day). Microbial protein synthesis estimated by urinary excretion of purine derivatives averaged 266.3 g/day and did not differ across diets. In addition, efficiency of microbial protein synthesis averaged 136.8 g of microbial N per kg/TDN and also did not differ among diets.

Objetivou-se neste estudo avaliar as digestibilidades total e parcial dos compostos nitrogenados insolúveis em detergente ácido (NIDA) em bovinos em pastejo. Foram utilizados cinco novilhos mestiços Holandês x Zebu (24 meses de idade e 304 kg de PV), canulados no esôfago, rúmen e abomaso, manejados em cinco piquetes de Brachiaria decumbens (0,34 ha), recebendo ou não suplementação com concentrado. O experimento foi realizado em quatro períodos experimentais de 21 dias, entre agosto e novembro de 2000. A avaliação da forragem selecionada pelos animais foi feita em amostras de extrusa esofágica e a estimativa do consumo e dos fluxos fecais e abomasais de MS e NIDA, foram estimados por intermédio de indicadores interno e externo. A avaliação estatística da digestibilidade do NIDA foi conduzida por ajustamento de equação de regressão linear, desconsiderando o parâmetro intercepto e utilizando-se como variáveis independente e dependente as estimativas de influxo e efluxo de NIDA, respectivamente. Os desvios do coeficiente de regressão a partir do valor paramétrico 1,0 foram considerados estimativas de digestibilidade. A comparação entre o consumo e os fluxos abomasal e fecal de NIDA indicou haver digestibilidade desta fração em nível total, atribuída exclusivamente a eventos intestinais (30,7%), uma vez que não foi observada digestibilidade no compartimento ruminal. Esse comportamento indica que o teor de NIDA de um alimento é somente indicador, e não preditor, da digestibilidade potencial dos compostos nitrogenados totais. The objective of this trial was to investigate ruminal, intestinal and total tract digestibility of acid detergent insoluble nitrogen (ADIN) in grazing cattle. Five Holstein x Zebu steers averaging 304 kg of body weight and 24 months of age and fitted with esophageal, ruminal and abomasal cannulas were used in this study. Animals were maintained in five 0.34-ha paddocks of Brachiaria decumbens with or without concentrate supplementation. The experiment was conducted from August to November of 2000 using four 21-days experimental periods. Evaluation of the forage ingested by the animals was done by collecting esophageal extrusa samples. The flow of fecal and abomasal dry matter was estimated by using both internal and external markers. Statistical analysis of ADIN digestibility was conducted by adjustment of the linear regression equation with no intercept in the model and using ADIN inflow as independent variable and ADIN outflow as dependent variable. The deviation of the regression coefficient from the parametrical value 1.0 was considered to be digestible matter. Comparison between intake and abomasum and fecal flows of ADIN indicated that the observed total tract digestibility (30.7%) of this nitrogen fraction occurred exclusively in the intestine. Therefore, ADIN content of feeds can be considered only as an indicator but not as a predictor of nitrogen compounds potential digestibility.

Avaliaram-se o consumo, a digestibilidade aparente e o desempenho de novilhas recebendo dietas contendo diferentes teores de casca de café (0; 8,75; 17,5 e 26,25% da MS da ração concentrada) em substituição ao milho. Foram utilizadas 24 novilhas Holandês-Zebu, distribuídas em um delineamento em blocos casualizados. As dietas foram isonitrogenadas, com 15,5% de PB, constituídas de 60% de pré-secado de tifton 85 e 40% de ração concentrada na MS. Os consumos de MS, MO, PB, CT e FDN não foram alterados, registrando-se valores médios de 6,75; 6,23; 1,04; 5,01 e 3,11 kg/dia, respectivamente. Os consumos de CNF e NDT observados reduziram linearmente com a adição de casca de café. As digestibilidades da MS, MO, PB, CT, FDN e CNF e a concentração de NDT das dietas diminuíram linearmente com a adição de casca de café. O ganho de peso decresceu linearmente com a inclusão de casca de café na dieta, estimando-se queda de 6,94 g de PV/unidade porcentual de casca de café adicionada ao concentrado. Todavia, a inclusão deste resíduo em até 17,5% de substituição ao milho da ração concentrada (7,0% na MS da dieta) pode ser considerada benéfica, pois os ganhos médios diários observados foram próximos aos obtidos com a inclusão de 0,0 e 8,75% de casca de café na ração concentrada. The objective of this trial was to investigate the effects of partially replacing ground corn with coffee hulls (0.0, 8.75, 17.5 and 26.25% of concentrate DM) on nutrient intake, apparent total tract digestibility, and daily weight gain of dairy heifers. Twenty-four Holstein x Zebu heifers were assigned to a randomized complete block design with four treatments and six replicates. Diets were isonitrogenous (15.5% CP) and contained 60% of Tifton-85 haylage and 40% of concentrate. Intakes of dry matter (6.75 kg/day), organic matter (6.23 kg/day), CP (1.04 kg/day), total carbohydrates (5.01 kg/day), and neutral detergent fiber (3.11 kg/day) were not changed whereas those of nonfiber carbohydrates (NFC) and total digestible nutrients (TDN) decreased linearly by inclusion of coffee hulls in the diet. Apparent total tract digestibilities of dry matter, organic matter, CP, total carbohydrates, neutral detergent fiber, NFC, and TDN all decreased linearly by partially replacing ground corn with coffee hulls. Daily weight gain decreased 6.94 g per each percentage unit of coffee hulls added to the diet. However, inclusion of up to 17.5% of coffee hulls (7.0% of the diet DM) maintained daily weight gain similar to those obtained with 0.0 and 8.75% of coffee hulls in the concentrate.

Objetivou-se simular e validar a degradação ruminal dos carboidratos e o fluxo nitrogenado microbiano, estimados a partir de parâmetros da cinética de degradação ruminal de amostras de extrusa esofágica e de suplementos obtidos pela técnica in vitro de produção de gases. As estimativas in vivo foram obtidas em experimento de campo, no qual foram utilizados cinco novilhos mestiços Holandês x Zebu com idade e peso médios iniciais de 24 meses e 304 kg, manejados em cinco piquetes de B. decumbens (0,34 ha). Foram fornecidos suplementos (4 kg/animal/dia) constituídos por fubá de milho, grão de soja integral, uréia, sulfato de amônia e mistura mineral, formulados para apresentarem níveis de 12, 16, 20 e 24% de proteína bruta, com base na matéria natural. O experimento foi conduzido em quatro períodos experimentais de 21 dias, em delineamento em quadrado latino 4 x 4. O quinto animal foi mantido sem suplementação, sendo utilizado como medida de comparação descritiva. A avaliação estatística foi feita por meio do ajustamento de equação de regressão linear simples de valores preditos in vitro sobre valores observados in vivo. A utilização das taxas de digestão específica obtidas in vitro implicou em sub e superestimação da degradação ruminal de carboidratos fibrosos (CF) e não-fibrosos (CNF), cujos vícios globais do processo de de estimação foram de -25,27% e +33,58%, respectivamente. Os valores preditos de eficiência microbiana não mostraram relação significativa com os valores observados, refletindo falta de relação entre valores preditos e observados para o fluxo abomasal de nitrogênio microbiano. A avaliação de alimentos separadamente subestima a taxa de digestão específica de CF. The objective of this trial was simulate and validate the ruminal degradation of carbohydrates and the flow of microbial nitrogen, estimated from samples of esophageal extrusa and supplements, using an in vitro gas production technique. In vivo estimates were obtained from five Holstein x Zebu steers averaging 304 kg of body weight and 24 months of age that were grazing on five paddocks of Brachiaria decumbens (0.34 ha). The supplements fed to the steers (4 kg/animal/day) contained: grounded corn, whole soybean, urea, ammonium sulfate, and mineral salt and the following crude protein levels: 12, 16, 20, or 24% on as-fed basis. Statistical analyses were performed as a 4 x 4 Latin square design with 21-days periods. The fifth animal was not supplemented and was used only for descriptive comparisons. Data were obtained by regression of values predicted in vitro on values observed in vivo. Use of digestion rates obtained in vitro resulted in under- and over-estimation of the ruminal degradation of fiber (FC) and nonfiber (NFC) carbohydrates with overall biases of -25.27% and +33.58%, respectively. No significant relationship was found between predicted versus observed values for microbial efficiency showing lack of relationship between predicted and observed values for the abomasum flow of microbial nitrogen. Results showed that the ruminal incubation of feeds separately underestimates the digestion rate of FC.

O experimento foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar a substituição da silagem de milho por cana-de-açúcar em dietas para vacas leiteiras. Foram avaliados quatro níveis de substituição (0; 33,3; 66,6 e 100%) de silagem de milho por cana-de-açúcar para o estudo do consumo e da digestibilidade aparente dos nutrientes e a determinação do pH e da concentração de compostos nitrogenados amoniacais (N-NH3) do líquido ruminal e da taxa de passagem ruminal da digesta. Doze vacas da raça Holandesa, puras e mestiças, com potencial para produção de 5.000 a 7.000 kg de leite por lactação, foram distribuídas em três quadrados latinos 4 x 4 balanceados, conforme o período de lactação. Os animais foram mantidos em baias individuais, onde receberam as dietas (ad libitum), duas vezes ao dia, com relação volumoso:concentrado 60:40, durante 84 dias experimentais. O aumento do nível de substituição de silagem de milho por cana-de-açúcar promoveu redução linear do consumo de todos os nutrientes, exceto lignina e carboidratos não-fibrosos. A substituição não afetou as digestibilidades da matéria seca, da matéria orgânica e da proteína bruta. A digestibilidade da fibra em detergente neutro apresentou redução acentuada, enquanto a dos carboidratos não-fibrosos aumentou. O pH ruminal não foi influenciado pelas dietas, apresentando comportamento quadrático conforme o tempo após alimentação. As concentrações de amônia ruminal apresentaram comportamento quadrático de acordo com as dietas e o tempo de alimentação. A taxa de passagem ruminal da digesta diminuiu e o tempo médio de retenção total aumentou com a substituição, o que pode explicar a redução no consumo. A silagem de milho pode ser substituída em até 33% pela cana-de-açúcar para vacas com produções médias diárias de 24 kg de leite. This trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of replacing corn silage with sugarcane on intake, apparent digestibility of nutrients, ruminal pH and ammonia nitrogen, and ruminal passage rate of digesta in lactating dairy cows. Proportion sugarcane increased as follows: 0, 33.3, 66.6 and 100% of the forage portion of the diet. Twelve Holstein and crossbred Holstein/Zebu cows with potential yield varying from 5,000 to 7,000 kg of milk per lactation were randomly assigned to three 4x4 Latin squares. Cows were maintained in individual stalls and were fed ad libitum twice a day a diet containing a forage:concentrate ratio of 60:40 during the 84-days experimental period. Replacing corn silage with sugarcane linearly reduced the intakes of all nutrients with the exception of lignin and nonfiber carbohydrates. No significant effects on apparent digestibilities of dry matter, organic matter and crude protein were observed by replacing corn silage with sugarcane in this trial. However, neutral detergent fiber digestibility decreased and that of nonfiber carbohydrates increased when sugarcane replaced corn silage in the diet. Although ruminal pH did not differ among treatments, a significant quadratic response was found according to time after feeding. Significant quadratic responses were also observed for concentration of ruminal ammonia by increasing the proportion of sugarcane in the diet as well as time past the morning feeding. Ruminal passage rate of digesta decreased and average total retention time increased as sugarcane replaced corn silage, which possibly explains the observed reduction in dry matter intake. Therefore, it is recommended to include up to 33% of sugarcane in the diet of lactating dairy cows yielding 24 kg of milk per day.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar os parâmetros cinéticos da degradação, in situ, da matéria seca, da proteína bruta e da fibra em detergente neutro das silagens de milho e de capim-elefante, do feno de capim-Tifton 85 e do farelo de soja. Foram utilizados três bovinos adultos, fistulados no rúmen, com peso vivo médio de 400 kg. Os alimentos foram pesados em sacos de náilon, incubados todos de uma vez e retirados nos tempos 0, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24, 48 e 72 horas, após a incubação dos volumosos, e 0, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24 e 48 horas, após incubação do farelo de soja. Os resíduos dos sacos foram analisados quanto ao conteúdo de matéria seca, proteína bruta e fibra em detergente neutro. A matéria seca e a proteína bruta do farelo de soja apresentaram potencial de degradação elevado, assim como a proteína bruta da silagem de milho. Destacou-se a elevada fração não-degradável da fibra em detergente neutro do feno de capim-Tifton 85 e, portanto, sua baixa degradabilidade potencial da matéria seca. O teor de fibra em detergente neutro e suas características cinéticas exercem acentuado efeito sobre a digestão dos alimentos. The objective of this work was to determine the kinetic parameters of the dry matter in situ degradation, crude protein and neutral detergent fiber for corn silage, elephant-grass silage, Tifton-85 grass hay and soybean meal. Three rumen canulated cattle were used, with mean liveweight of 400 kg. Feeds were weighted in naylon bags, and incubated in the rumen at once. Roughages were removed at 0, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24, 48 and 72 hours, and soybean meal at 0, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24 and 48 hours after incubation. Residues in the bags were analyzed for dry matter, crude protein and neutral detergent fiber. Dry matter and crude protein of soybean meal presented highly degradable potential, as well as crude protein of corn silage. Tifton-85 grass hay presented high indigestible neutral detergent fiber fraction and therefore, low potential dry matter degradation. Amount of the neutral detergent fiber and its kinetic characteristic has a marked effect on digestion of feeds.

Avaliaram-se o consumo e os parâmetros da cinética de trânsito de partículas em bovinos suplementados durante a fase de transição entre os períodos seco e chuvoso. Foram utilizados cinco novilhos Holandês x Zebu com idade e peso médios iniciais de 24 meses e 304 kg, respectivamente, manejados em cinco piquetes de Brachiaria decumbens (0,34 ha). Foram fornecidos suplementos (4 kg/animal/dia), constituídos por fubá de milho, grão de soja integral, uréia, sulfato de amônia e mistura mineral, formulados para apresentarem níveis de 12, 16, 20 e 24% de proteína bruta (PB), com base na matéria natural. O experimento foi conduzido em quatro períodos experimentais de 21 dias e analisado por delineamento em quadrado latino 4 x 4. O quinto animal, mantido sem suplementação (controle), foi utilizado como medida de comparação descritiva. A forragem selecionada pelos animais apresentou teores médios de PB e fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) de 109,9 e 564,4 g/kg de matéria seca (MS), respectivamente. A variação do nível de PB dos suplementos não alterou os consumos de MS, de matéria orgânica e de FDN. O fornecimento de suplementos reduziu o consumo de pastagem e ampliou o consumo de MS total em relação ao controle, com coeficiente médio de substituição de 0,41. O nível de PB dos suplementos não afetou a taxa de passagem ruminal das partículas, cujo valor médio (0,034 h-1), foi superior ao observado no controle (0,029 h-1). The objective of this trial was to evaluate the voluntary intake and ruminal passage of particles in supplemented finishing cattle during the drought to rainy transition season. Five Holstein x Zebu steers averaging 304 kg of live weight and 24 months of age located in five paddocks (0.34 ha each) of Brachiaria decumbens were used in this trial. The supplements fed (4 kg/animal/day) contained ground corn, whole soybean, urea, ammonium sulfate, and minerals and were formulated to yield, on as-fed basis, 12, 16, 20, and 24% of crude protein (CP). Four animals were assigned to a 4 x 4 Latin square with experimental periods lasting 21 days. The remaining animal was not supplemented and was used for comparative purposes (CONT). Forage grazed by the animals had average contents of CP and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of 109.9 and 564.4 g/kg of dry matter (DM), respectively. No significant differences in the intakes of DM, organic matter, and NDF were observed by increasing the CP contents of the supplements. Supplementation reduced consumption of forage but total DM intake was greater in the supplemented than in the CONT animal. Increasing the CP content of the supplements did not change the ruminal passage rate of particles that averaged 0.034 h-1 for the supplemented steers and was higher than that of the CONT animal (0.029 h-1).

Objetivou-se neste trabalho validar as equações de predição da fração indigestível da fibra em detergente neutro (FDNi) adotadas pelos sistemas nutricionais Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System (equação de Sniffen) e National Research Council (equação de Conrad) em gramíneas tropicais. Para tal, construiu-se um banco de dados constituído por 114 observações realizadas em gramíneas tropicais, centrando-se nos teores de lignina e de fibra em detergente neutro indigestível (FDNi). A comparação entre valores preditos e observados foi realizada por intermédio do ajustamento de equação de regressão linear simples de valores preditos sobre valores observados. A utilização da equação de Conrad forneceu estimativas dos teores de FDNi distintos daqueles observados, com vício constante de +5,60 pontos percentuais. A alteração do expoente que compõe tal equação de 0,667 para 0,85 levou à anulação deste vício, garantindo a similaridade entre valores preditos e observados. Um quadro de falta de ajustamento foi observado sobre a equação de Sniffen, que proporcionou a sub e superestimação dos teores de FDNi para concentrações de lignina inferiores e superiores a 10,4% da FDN, respectivamente. Tal comportamento suporta-se na ausência de relações curvilineares desta equação, constituindo seu principal elemento de deficiência. O ajustamento empírico da equação de Conrad neutralizou o vício de estimação, atribuindo ao novo modelo o menor quadrado médio do erro de predição entre as equações avaliadas. The objective of this work was to validate the prediction equations for neutral detergent fiber indigestible fraction (iNDF) employed by the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System (Sniffen equation) and the National Research Council (Conrad's equation). A database with 114 observations taken from tropical grass, with lignin and indigestible neutral detergent fiber (iNDF) contents, was used. Comparison among predicted and observed values was accomplished by adjusting a linear regression model with predicted values as dependent variable and observed values as independent variable. The estimates supplied by Conrad's equation were different from observed values, with constant bias of +5.60 percentile points. Alteration of the exponent that composes this equation, from .667 to .85, controlled the bias, guaranteeing the similarity among predicted and observed values. Lack of fitness was observed on the Sniffen equation, which caused under and overestimation of the iNDF contents for lignin concentrations lower and higher than 10.4% of NDF, respectively. This behavior is supported by the absence of non-linear relationships in this equation, constituting its main element of deficiency. The bias free of Conrad equation with empirical correction enlarges the accuracy of estimation process, leading to the lower mean square of the prediction error.

Este trabalho foi conduzido com o objetivo de determinar as frações e as taxas de degradação dos carboidratos em cultivares de cana-de-açúcar, com dois ciclos de produção: precoce e intermediário, em três idades de corte (426, 487 e 549 dias). No fracionamento, foram calculados os carboidratos totais (CT), carboidratos não-fibrosos (CNF) e as frações potencialmente degradável (B2) e não-degradável (C) da fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), corrigida para cinzas e proteína (FDNcp). Os parâmetros cinéticos dos CNF e fração B2 foram estimados a partir da técnica da produção de gás in vitro. Os teores de CT e fração B2 não diferiram entre os ciclos de produção, porém as precoces apresentaram maiores teores da fração C e menores dos CNF. Estabelecendo uma relação entre concentração de lignina obtida e fração C observada, por meio de ajuste de equação de regressão linear simples, sem intercepto, obteve-se o valor de 4,38, que diferiu de 2,4, sugerido pelo sistema Cornell. Portanto, para cana-de-açúcar, a fração C pode ser mais precisamente estimada a partir da lignina multiplicada por 4,38. O avanço da idade de corte causou aumento da fração C e redução da B2, sem interagir com a maturação; embora tenha sido linear, o incremento foi pequeno, de apenas 6% da fração C, quando comparado a outras gramíneas tropicais com a mesma idade de corte. Os parâmetros cinéticos não apresentaram diferenças entre variedades; entretanto, as taxas de degradação dos CNF foram inferiores às sugeridas pelo sistema Cornell. O ajuste da curva de produção cumulativa de gás (sistema bicompartimental) mostrou-se adequado, pois a cana-de-açúcar tem frações de carboidratos disponíveis muito distintas quanto à taxa de digestão (CNF e B2). Por apresentar elevado teor de CNF e baixa taxa de degradação da fração B2, pesquisas com diferentes fontes de N para suplementar dietas à base de cana-de-açúcar são necessárias. The objective of this work was to determine the fractions and rates of degradation of the carbohydrates for sugar cane, with different cycles of production (early and intermediate), in three cut times (426, 487 and 549 days). The total carbohydrates (TC), non-fibrous carbohydrates (NFC), fractions potentially digestible (B2) and indigestible (C) of the neutral detergent fiber (NDF), corrected for ashes and protein (NDFcp), were obtained. The kinetic parameters of NFC and fraction B2 were obtained from the technique of in vitro gas production. The contents of TC and fraction B2 did not differ among varieties, even though the early ones showed higher contents of the fraction C and smaller of NFC. By establishing a relationship between concentration of obtained lignin and observed C fraction, with adjustment of equation of simple linear regression, without intercept, it was obtained the value of 4.38, that differed of 2.4, suggested by the Cornell system. Therefore, for sugar cane, the fraction C could be estimated from the lignin multiplied by 4.38. The progress of the cut time caused linear increase of the C fraction and reduction of B2, without interaction with the cycle of production; although it has been linear, the increment was relatively small, 6% of the fraction C, when compared to the other tropical gramineas, with the same cut time. The kinetic parameters did not show differences among varieties; however, the estimated average digestion rates for NFC were lower than the suggested by the Cornell system. The adjustment of the curve of cumulative gas production (bicompartimental system) was shown appropriate because the sugar cane has fractions of available carbohydrate very different with relationship to the degradation rate (CNF and B2). By presenting high content of NFC (sucrose) and low rate of degradation of the B2 fraction, researches with different sources of N to supplement sugar cane based diets are necessary.

Foram objetivos deste trabalho validar as predições com base nas estimativas da dinâmica ruminal e pós-ruminal dos nutrientes e do crescimento microbiano no rúmen, usando as equações que compõem o submodelo Cornell relativo ao trato gastrintestinal. Foram utilizados quatro novilhos Holandês-Zebu com peso médio de 300 kg, canulados no rúmen e abomaso, distribuídos em delineamento quadrado latino 4 x 4. Os animais experimentais foram alimentados com rações à base de cana-de-açúcar, suplementada com duas fontes de nitrogênio (uréia ou cama de frango) e dois níveis de levedura (0 ou 10 g dia-1), constituindo-se esquema fatorial 2 x 2. A FDN indigestível e a FDN da cana-de-açúcar complexada com cromo foram usadas como indicadores interno e externo, para estimar a produção fecal diária e a taxa de passagem de partículas no rúmen. A dinâmica dos nutrientes baseou-se nas determinações do fluxo de nitrogênio total e do fluxo de nitrogênio de origem bacteriana no abomaso e dos carboidratos totais digeridos no rúmen. A produção microbiana não foi influenciada pelas fontes nitrogenadas e pela adição de Saccharomyces cerevisiae. O Sistema Cornell superestimou os carboidratos totais degradados no rúmen, o fluxo de nitrogênio de origem microbiana e subestimou o fluxo de N total no abomaso. The objectives of this work were to validate the predictions based on the estimates of the ruminal nutrient dynamics and on the microbial growth in the rumen, using equations of the Cornell Submodel system relative to the gastrintestinal tract. Four Holstein - Zebu steers, with 300 kg live weight, rumen and abomasal cannulated were allotted to 4x4 latin square design. The experimental animals received sugar cane based diets, supplemented with two nitrogen sources (urea or poultry litter) and two yeast levels (0 or 10 g / d), being constituted 2x2 factorial arrangement. The indigestible neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and chromium mordant sugar cane NDF were used as internal and external markers to estimate the daily fecal production and the ruminal particle passage rates. The dynamics of the nutrients was based on the determination of the total nitrogen and the abomasal nitrogen flows of microbial origin and total carbohydrate digested in the rumen. The microbial yield was not influenced by nitrogen sources or by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The Cornell system overestimated the total ruminal carbohydrates digestion and the nitrogen flow of microbial origin and underestimated total nitrogen flow in the abomasum.

Objetivou-se, com o presente trabalho, determinar as frações nitrogenadas e de carboidratos e estimar as respectivas taxas de digestão para as silagens de milho e de capim-elefante, o feno de capim-Tifton-85 e o farelo de soja. Foram determinados os teores de matéria seca (MS), proteína bruta (PB), extrato etéreo (EE), matéria mineral (MM), carboidratos totais (CT), fibra insolúvel em detergente neutro (FDN), FDN corrigida para o seu conteúdo em cinzas e proteínas (FDNcp), FDN indigestível (FDNI), os compostos nitrogenados não-protéicos (NNP) e as frações nitrogenadas B1+B2, B3 e C, os carboidratos não-fibrosos (CNF) e as frações B2 e C dos CT. As taxas de digestão das frações dos CT foram estimadas por meio da técnica de produção de gases in vitro e as das frações protéicas, com proteases ruminais. As silagens de milho e de capim-elefante destacaram-se pela maior proporção de seus compostos nitrogenados (N) na forma de NNP; o feno de capim-Tifton-85, pela elevada proporção de B1+B2 e de fração B3; e o farelo de soja, pela elevada proporção de B1+B2. A silagem de milho e o farelo de soja destacaram-se pela elevada proporção de CNF (37,05 e 75,75%) e o feno de capim-Tifton-85 e a silagem de capim-elefante, pelo elevado teor das frações B2 e C (51,20 e 51,70%, 41,77 e 33,56%). As taxas de digestão das frações B1+B2 e B3 da PB variaram de 0,0469 a 0,1512 h-1 para o farelo de soja e a silagem de capim-elefante e de 0,0081 a 0,0757 h-1 para o feno de capim-Tifton-85 e a silagem de capim-elefante, respectivamente. As taxas de digestão estimadas para os CNF e a fração B2 variaram de 0,1294 a 0,1905 h-1 e de 0,0254 a 0,0300 h-1, para o feno de capim-Tifton-85 e a silagem de milho, respectivamente. The present work aimed to determine the nitrogen and carbohydrates fractions and to estimate the respective digestion rates for corn silage, Tifton-85 bermudagrass hay, elephantgrass silage and soybean meal. The contents of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), ash, total carbohydrates (TC), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), NDF corrected for ash and protein (NDFcp), indigestible NDF (INDF), non-protein nitrogen compounds (NPN) and B1+B2, B3 and C nitrogen fractions, nonfiber carbohydrates and B2 and C carbohydrates fractions were determined. TC digestion rates were estimated by in vitro gas production technique, while those of protein fractions were obtained by ruminal proteases utilization. The corn silage and elephantgrass silage showed high NPN proportion, the Tifton-85 bermudagrass hay showed high proportions of B1+B2 and B3 fractions and the soybean meal by high B1+B2 fraction. Corn silage and soybean meal showed high CNF proportion (37.05 and 75.75%) and the Tifton-85 bermudagrass hay and the elephantgrass silage showed high B2 and C fractions (51.20 and 51.70%, 41.77 and 33.56%). The digestion rates of B1+B2 and B3 protein fractions ranged from .0469 to .1512 h-1 for soybean meal and elephantgrass silage and from .0081 to .0757 h-1 for the Tifton-85 bermudagrass hay and elephantgrass silage, respectively. The estimated digestion rates for NFC and B2 fractions ranged from .1294 to .1905 h-1 and from .0254 to .0300 h-1 for Tifton-85 bermudagrass hay and corn silage, respectively.

Foram objetivos do presente trabalho avaliar as alterações na composição bromatológica, nas frações nitrogenadas e de carboidratos, estimar a taxa de digestão dos carboidratos fibrosos (CF) e não-fibrosos (CNF), determinar a digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca (DIVMS) e estimar o NDT da silagem de sorgo com as seguintes proporções de panículas: 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 e 100%. Foram determinados os teores de matéria seca (MS), proteína bruta (PB), extrato etéreo (EE), matéria mineral (MM), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), as frações protéicas: NNP, B1+B2, B3 e C, e os carboidratos não fibrosos (CNF) e as frações B2 e C dos carboidratos totais. As taxas de digestão das frações dos carboidratos totais foram estimadas por meio da técnica de produção de gás, a digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca (DIVMS) pela técnica de dois estágios e o NDT estimado pela composição bromatológica. O acréscimo de panículas à silagem de sorgo aumentou linearmente os teores de MS, PB, CNF, EE e lignina na FDN e, reduziu os teores de MM e FDN. O NNP e as frações B1+B2, B3 e C variaram de 9,19 a 21,24, de 67,63 a 75,98, de 3,85 a 6,09 e de 5,09 a 10,98% do N total. Os teores dos CNF aumentaram linearmente e da fração B2 dos carboidratos totais foram reduzidos, os quais variaram de 208,18 a 564,07 e de 381,29 a zero g/kg de MS, respectivamente. As taxas de digestão dos CNF e da fração B2 variaram de 0,1358 a 0,1563h-1 e de 0,0247 a 0,0294 h-1. O volume final de gás não foi influenciado pela adição de panículas e a DIVMS máxima de 69,52% foi obtida com 60,10% de panículas. Embora o NDT estimado tenha aumentado linearmente, considerando a não alteração da produção de gás e o comportamento quadrático da DIVMS, pode-se inferir que a utilização destas estimativas não parece adequada. This work had as objective to evaluate the chemical composition alteration in the nitrogen and carbohydrate fractions, to estimate the digestion rate of fiber carbohydrates (FC) and non-fiber carbohydrates (NFC), to determine the in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) and to estimate the TDN of sorghum silage with different panicle proportions (0, 20 , 40, 60, 80 and 100%). The contents of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), ash, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), nitrogen fractions: NPN, B1+B2, B3 and C, non-fiber carbohydrate (NFC) and B2 and C fractions of total carbohydrates were determined. The digestion rates of the NFC and B2 fractions of total carbohydrates were estimated by in vitro gas production technique, the IVDMD was determined by two-stage technique and TDN, by chemical composition. The increase in the panicle in sorghum silage increased linearly the amounst of DM, CP, NFC, EE and lignin in NDF and reduced the ash and NDF amount. The NPN and the B1+B2, B3 and C fractions ranged from 9.19 to 21.24, from 67.63 to 75.98, from 3.85 to 6.09 and from 5.09 to 10.98% of total N. The NFC amount increased linearly and of the B2 fraction of total carbohydrates reduced by addition of panicle, ranging from 208.18 to 564.07 and from 381.29 to 0 g/kg of DM, respectively. The digestion rate of NFC and B2 fraction ranged from 0.1358 to 0.1563h-1 and from 0.0247 to 0.0294 h-1. The total gas production was not influenced by panicle addition and the maximum IVDMD of 69.52% was obtained with 60.10% of panicle. Althought the estimated TDN had increased linearly, considering the no alteration of gas production and the quadratical effect of IVDMD, it can be suggested that the utilization of these estimates are not correct.

Foram objetivos deste trabalho determinar a composição químico- bromatológica, as frações potencialmente degradável (B2) e indegradável (C) da FDN dos carboidratos totais e estimar a repleção ruminal da cana-de-açúcar com diferentes ciclos de produção (precoce e intermediário), em três idades de corte (426, 487 e 549 dias). As análises laboratoriais consistiram na determinação da matéria seca (MS), matéria orgânica, matéria mineral, proteína bruta (PB), extrato etéreo, lignina, fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), FDN corrigida para cinzas e proteína, fibra em detergente ácido (FDA), proteína insolúvel em detergente neutro, proteína insolúvel em detergente ácido e proteína solúvel em detergente neutro. Os nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT) foram calculados por intermédio da composição química. As frações B2, C e a taxa de digestão da fibra, bem como a repleção ruminal, foram estimadas através de parâmetros cinéticos obtidos a partir da incubação in situ. O avanço da idade de corte propiciou aumento nos teores de MS em 9,5%. As variedades intermediárias apresentaram NDT superiores às precoces, as quais destacaram-se pelos mais elevados teores de FDN e FDA, cujos respectivos valores foram 487,56 e 471,03, e 287,87 e 247,54 g/kg MS para as variedades precoces e intermediárias, respectivamente. O NDT aumentou linearmente com a idade de corte, variando de 62,45 a 63,50%; contudo, os teores de FDN e FDA apresentaram comportamento quadrático. As variedades precoces apresentaram maior teor de PB que as intermediárias somente na idade ao corte de 549 dias, contrariamente, o teor de brix foi superior para as variedades intermediárias no último corte. As variedades precoces apresentaram maior repleção ruminal total e menor taxa de digestão da fibra. A fração B2 da fibra, foi reduzida e a C foi linearmente aumentada com a idade das plantas. The objectives of this work were to determine the chemical composition, the potentialy degradable fraction of NDF (B2) and undegradable fraction (C) and to estimate the ruminal fill of sugar cane with different cycles of production (early and intermediate), in three cut times (426, 487 and 549 days). The laboratorial analysis consisted in dry matter (DM), organic matter, ash, crude protein (CP), ether extract, lignin, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), neutral detergent fiber corrected for ash and protein, acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent insoluble protein, acid detergent insoluble protein and neutral detergent protein soluble. The TDN was calculated by chemical composition. The degradable and undegradable fractions, and fiber digestion rate, as well as the ruminal fill were estimated by kinetic parameters obtained throught in situ incubation. The advanced cut time increased the DM in 9.5%. The intermediate varieties presented higher TDN than early varieties, which had the highest contents of NDF and ADF, whose respective values were 487.56 and 471.03, and 287.87 and 247,54 g/kg DM for the early and intermediate varieties, respectively. The TDN increased linearly with the cut time, varying from 62.45 to 63.50%; however the NDF and ADF contents presented quadratic behavior. The early varieties presented higher content of CP than the intermediate only in the cut time of 549 days; contrarily, the brix of the sugar cane was superior to the intermediate varieties in the last cut. The early varieties presented larger total ruminal fill and lower fiber digestion rate. The degradable fraction of the fiber was reduced and the undegradable fraction was linearly increased with the age of the plants.

Objetivou-se avaliar o consumo de fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) por bovinos em confinamento e os principais fatores que influenciam esta variável, correlacionado-a ao consumo de matéria seca (MS) total. Foram avaliados dados publicados na Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Zootecnia e Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia, no período de 1991 e 2000, totalizando 45 trabalhos científicos e 181 médias de tratamentos. O nível de nutrientes digestíveis totais mostrou-se negativamente correlacionado ao nível de FDN nas dietas (r = -0,6006; P0,10). A descrição da relação entre consumo de MS e nível de FDN na dieta foi realizada de forma bifásica, buscando similaridade às curvas propostas por um modelo estático de predição do consumo. A interseção das curvas projetou consumo de FDN (CFDN) de 11,93 g/kg PV. No entanto, a avaliação dos CFDN estimados durante a fase atribuída aos controladores físicos do consumo mostrou inconstância, gerando divergência entre os pontos de consumo máximo de MS e FDN, indicando ser a transição entre os mecanismos físicos e fisiológicos, possivelmente, determinada por um intervalo com interação entre mecanismos. A avaliação do CFDN em função do nível de volumosos nas dietas mostrou perfis estáveis em concentrações superiores a 60%, sendo de 13,53 g/kg PV no intervalo de 80 a 100%. Possíveis interações com a fração indigestível da FDN podem ditar a plasticidade do limite diário de CFDN. The objective of this work was to evaluate the intake of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) by fedlot cattle, the principal factors that influencing this variable, and to correlate the NDF to total dry matter (DM) intake. The data published at the Brazilian Journal of Animal Science Society and Brazilian Journal of Animal Science among the years of 1991 and 2000, totaling 45 scientific works and 181 averages of treatments, were evaluated. The level of total digestible nutrients was negatively correlated to the level of NDF in diets (r = -0.6006; P.10). The description of the relationship among total DM intake and level of NDF in the diet was accomplished using a biphasic profile, looking for similarity to the curves proposed by the static model of DM intake prediction. The intersection of the curves projected a intake of NDF (NDFI) of 11.93 g/kg LW. However, the evaluation of NDFI estimated during the phase attributed to the physical controllers of intake showed inconstancy, generating divergence among the points of maximum intake of DM and NDF. This profile indicated that the transition among the physical and physiologic mechanisms is, possibly, delimited by an interval with interaction among mechanisms. The evaluation of NDFI according to the level of forage in the diets showed stable profiles in concentrations above to 60%, being of 13.53 g/kg LW in the interval from 80 to 100%. Possible interactions with the indigestible fraction of NDF can dictate the plasticity of the daily limit of NDFI.

Foram objetivos do presente trabalho avaliar as alterações na composição bromatológica e nas frações nitrogenadas e de carboidratos, estimar a taxa de digestão dos carboidratos fibrosos (CF) e não-fibrosos (CNF), determinar a digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca (DIVMS) e estimar o teor de nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT) da silagem de milho com diferentes proporções de grãos. As silagens foram confeccionadas nas seguintes proporções de grãos: 0, 15, 30, 45 e 60%. Foram determinados os teores de matéria seca (MS), compostos nitrogenados (N), extrato etéreo (EE), matéria mineral (MM), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) e fibra em detergente ácido (FDA), bem como os compostos nitrogenados não-protéicos (NNP) e as frações nitrogenadas B1+B2, B3 e C. Foram também determinados os teores dos carboidratos não-fibrosos (CNF) e das frações potencialmente digestíveis (B2) e indigestíveis da FDN (C). As taxas de digestão dos CNF e da fração B2 dos carboidratos totais foram estimadas por meio da técnica de produção de gases. Foram, ainda, realizadas a DIVMS por meio da técnica de dois estádios e a estimação do NDT por intermédio da composição química. O acréscimo de grãos à silagem aumentou linearmente os teores de MS, N e CNF e reduziu a MM, FDN, FDA e lignina. O NNP e as frações B3 e C variaram de 34,04 a 54,62%, 6,63 a 2,61 e 7,83 a 1,32% da PB. Os teores dos CNF e das frações B2 e C dos carboidratos totais foram influenciados linearmente pela adição de grãos à silagem, que variaram de 153,55 a 585,10; 489,57 a 203,29; e 233,50 a 85,51 g/kg de MS, respectivamente. As taxas de digestão dos CNF e da fração B2 apresentaram comportamento quadrático, sendo os valores máximos estimados de 0,2723 e 0,02771 h-1, para as silagens com 40,08 e 14,57% de grãos, respectivamente. O volume final de gás, a DIVMS e o NDT estimado, aumentaram linearmente, em função da porcentagem de grãos, os quais variaram de 20,03 a 28,47 mL, 62,19 a 83,21 e 56,08 a 81,40%, respectivamente. The objectives of this work were to evaluate the chemical composition alteration, the nitrogen and carbohydrate fractions changes, to estimate the digestion rate of non-fiber carbohydrate (NFC) and fiber carbohydrate (FC), to determine the in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) and to estimate the TDN of corn silage with different grain proportions. The silage were done in the following proportions: 0, 15, 30, 45 e 60% of grain. The amount of dry matter (DM), nitrogen compounds (N), ether extract (EE), ash, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF), as well the non-protein nitrogen compounds (NPN) and the B1+B2, B3 and C nitrogen fractions, were determined. The amount of non-fiber carbohydrate (NFC) and of potentially digestible (B2) and indigestible (C) fractions of NDF were also determined. The rate digestion of NFC and B2 fraction of carbohydrate were estimated by mean of gas production technique. IVDMD was determined by the two-stage technique and the TDN content was estimated by the chemical composition. The addition of grain to the corn silage showed linear increase in DM, N and NFC contents and reduced the ash, NDF, ADF and lignin. The NPN and B3 and C fractions ranged from 34.04 to 54.62, from 6.63 to 2.61 and from 7.83 to 1.32% of the total N. The amount of the NFC and B2 and C fractions of carbohydrate were linearly influenced by grain addition in the corn silage, that ranged from 135.55 to 558.10, 489.57 to 203.29 and from 233.50 to 85.51 g/kg of DM. The digestion rate of the NFC and B2 fraction were quadraticly affected, and the maximum estimated values were of 0.2723 and 0.02771 h-1, for the silage with 40.08 and 14.57% of grains, respectively. The total gas production, IVDMD and TDN increased linearly as a function of grain percentage, that ranged from 20.03 to 28.47, from 62.19 to 83.21 and from 56.08 to 81.40, respectively.

Objetivou-se avaliar o consumo, digestibilidade dos nutrientes, pH, concentracao de nitrogenio amoniacal ruminal em ovinos submetidos a dietas com niveis crescentes de concentrado: 15, 30, 45, 60 e 75% na dieta. Foram utilizados cinco ovinos distribuidos em delineamento quadrado latino 5x5. Os animais foram mantidos em baias individuais. Cada periodo experimental teve duracao de 17 dias. A excrecao fecal foi estimada pelo uso da fibra em detergente neutro indigestivel. No 17o dia, o pH do fluido ruminal e as concentracoes de nitrogenio amoniacal ruminal foram mensuradas. O aumento dos niveis de concentrado nao afetaram o consumo de materia seca, enquanto o consumo de FDN foi reduzido em 0,0074 kg/animal/dia para cada 1% de concentrado adicionado. O coeficiente de digestibilidade da MS foi aumentado em 0,51% para cada 1% de concentrado. O pH do fluido ruminal foi reduzido em 0,006 unidades para cada 1% de concentrado. Para o NAR estimou-se valor maximo de 19,13 mg/dL de liquido ruminal para o nivel de concentrado de 38,67%.

The objective was to evaluate the effect of mineral salt (MS), multiple (MS), energy (ES) and protein supplements (PS) on performance, behavior and production cost of the cattle in Marandu grass pasture. The experiment lasted 84 days, conducted in the experimental area consists of four paddocks of 1.45 ha. Twenty steers were used with age and initial body weight of 172 kg and 10 months, respectively. It used a completely randomized design with four treatments and five replicate. The energy, multiple and protein supplements was supplied on 1.0 kg day-1. The animals were weighed at the beginning and end of the experiment, to determine the average daily gain (ADG). The weight gain of animals was 0.380, 0.600, 0.750 and 0.730 kg/day, respectively, for treatments MS, ES, MS and PS, have been verified statistical difference between supplemented animals and animals than received only mineral salt. The multiple supplement produced ADG 49.33% and 20.00% higher than the mineral salt. The multiple and protein supplements permitted average performance 18.92% higher than the energy supplement. There was no difference in behavior of grazing (P> 0.05). Animals receiving the mineral mixture had time to 8.40 hours of grazing animal day-1. The multiple supplement provided better economic performance considering the sale of animals to 350 kg body weight.

This study aimed to evaluate the content of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid (FDA) of Marandu, Humidicula; Massai; Mombaca grass obtained by three different procedures with the conventional method (CON), the Filter Bag Technique Ankom® (FBT) and adapted by EMBRAPA (EMB). The forage plants were obtained in the Southwest region of Mato Grosso in the September; the samples were collected from pastures planted the three years. There were three batteries (runs) for each procedure (method) for the determination of NDF and ADF of different forages. There were realised three batteries (runs) for each procedure (method) for the determination of NDF and ADF of different forages. We used a completely randomized design with three replications for each methodology. Statistical analysis of the variables studied was performed by analysis of variance and the differences obtained were analyzed by Tukey test, considering 5% significance level. It was observed that the different procedures (CON, FBT and EMB) to determine the content NDF did not differ between them for different forages plants, with average values of 78.61% and 74.96% for the Marandu and Humidicula grass, respectively and 76.78% and 73.08% for Massai and Mombaca grass, respectively. The ADF content obtained by different procedures (CON, FBT and EMB) showed no difference between them, with average values of 50.95% and 44.86% for Marandu and Humidicula grass, respectively and 52.21% and 51.56% for Massai and Mombaca grass, respectively. Thus, it is concluded that the content of neutral detergent fiber and acid Marandu, Humidicula; Massai and Mombaca grass can be determined by the procedure adapted by EMBRAPA, since this was not different compared to conventional methodology and the Filter Bag Technique Ankom®, besides having a lower waste of reagents and consequently lower cost.

O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar os efeitos das fontes nitrogenadas e o uso de Sacharomyces cerevisiae em dietas à base de cana-de-açúcar sobre os consumos e as digestibilidades aparentes totais e parciais de matéria seca (MS), matéria orgânica (MO), proteína bruta (PB), extrato etéreo (EE), carboidratos totais (CHO), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) e carboidratos não-estruturais (CNE), o balanço nitrogenado e os parâmetros ruminais. Foram utilizados quatro novilhos Holandês-Zebu, fistulados no rúmen e abomaso, alimentados com quatro rações à base de cana-de-açúcar, constituídas de duas fontes nitrogenadas (uréia ou cama de frango) combinadas com dois níveis de Sacharomyces cerevisiae (0 e 10 g/dia). Utilizou-se delineamento em quadrado latino 4 x 4. A fibra em detergente neutro indigestível (FDNi) foi utilizada como indicador, para determinar as digestibilidades aparentes totais e parciais. Os consumos de MS, MO, EE, CT e CNE não foram influenciados pelas fontes nitrogenadas e pela utilização de Sacharomyces cerevisiae. Os consumos de PB e FDN foram maiores para as dietas suplementadas com cama de frango. Os coeficientes de digestibilidades totais de PB e EE foram maiores para as dietas constituídas de uréia. As digestibilidades aparentes totais de MS, MO, CT e FDN não foram influenciadas pelas fontes nitrogenadas e pela utilização de Sacharomyces cerevisiae. O pH do líquido ruminal decresceu linearmente para as dietas suplementadas com uréia e apresentou comportamento quadrático, quando estas dietas foram combinadas com Sacharomyces cerevisiae. As concentrações de amônia no líquido ruminal apresentaram comportamento quadrático, estimando-se valores máximos de 16,90; 26,12; 18,48; e 14,40 mg/100 mL para os tratamentos constituídos de cana-de-açúcar e uréia; cana-de-açúcar, uréia e Sacharomyces cerevisiae; cana-de-açúcar e cama de frango; e cana-de-açúcar, cama de frango e Sacharomyces cerevisiae, respectivamente. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of the non-nitrogenous sources and the addition of Sacharomyces cerevisiae to sugarcane based diets on the intakes and the total and partial apparent digestibilities of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), total carbohydrates (TC), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and non- structural carbohydrates (NEC). The nitrogen balance and ruminal parameters were also evaluated. Four Holstein-Zebu young bulls rumen and abomasal fistulated were allotted to a 4x4 Latin Square design in a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement. The animals were fed with sugar cane based diets, supplemented with two nitrogenous sources (urea or poultry litter) and two daily Sacharomyces cerevisiae addition (0 and 10 g/anim.). The indigestible neutral detergent fiber (NDFi) was used as a marker, to determine the total and partial apparent digestibilities of the nutrients. The intakes of DM, OM, EE, TC, NEC was not influenced by the nitrogenous sources and by the Sacharomyces cerevisiae addiction. The intakes of CP and NDF were higher for the diets supplemented by poultry litter. The coefficients of total digestibilities of CP and EE were higher for diets with urea. The apparent total digestibilities of DM, OM,TC, and NDF were not influenced by the nitrogenous sources and by the Sacharomyces cerevisiae addiction. The ruminal pH linearly decreased for the diets supplemented with urea, and presented a quadratic response when these diets were combined with Sacharomyces cerevisiae. The ruminal ammonia concentrations presented a quadratic behavior, and the maximum estimated values of 16.90; 26.12; 18.48 and 14.40 mg/dL for the diets with sugar-cane and urea, sugar cane, urea and Sacharomyces cerevisiae; sugar cane and poultry litter; sugar cane, poultry litter and Sacharomyces cerevisiae, respectively.

Avaliaram-se a composição bromatológica, as frações da proteína bruta (A, B1, B2, B3 e C) e dos carboidratos totais (A, B1, B2 e C) e as respectivas taxas de digestão das frações B1, B2 e B3 de proteínas e das frações A + B1 e B2 de carboidratos e do feno de capim-tifton 85, obtido de plantas colhidas com 28, 35, 42 e 56 dias de rebrota, adubadas com 75 kg/ha/corte de N. Os teores protéicos dos fenos com idades de rebrota de 28 a 56 dias variaram de 17,58 a 12,58%. Os valores das frações protéicas A, B1, B2, B3 e C apresentaram-se, respectivamente, entre 22,10 e 35,53%; 0,24 e 4,55%; 30,37 e 31,34%; 26,55 e 36,62%; e 5,75 e 6,76%, como proporções da proteína bruta total, nos fenos com idades de rebrota entre 28 e 56 dias. As taxas de digestão das frações protéicas B1, B2 e B3 encontraram-se entre 0,319 e 1,324; 0,0724 e 0,0936; e 0,0077 e 0,012 h -1, respectivamente, nos fenos com idades de rebrota entre 28 e 56 dias. Os teores de carboidratos totais variaram de 72,98 a 78,77%, em fenos com 28 a 56 dias de rebrota. Os valores das frações A, B1, B2 e C de carboidratos apresentaram-se entre 2,73 e 5,44%; 1,91 e 2,35%; 77,49 e 80,59%; e 13,59 e 17,87%, respectivamente, como proporções dos carboidratos totais, em fenos com idades entre 28 e 56 dias de rebrota. As taxas de digestão das frações de carboidratos A + B1 e B2 encontraram-se entre 0,181 e 0,20 e 0,04 e 0,0466 h -1, respectivamente, em fenos com idades entre 28 e 56 dias de rebrota. The protein content of hays from 28 to 56 days of regrowth ranged from 17.58 to 12.58%. The values of A, B1, B2, B3 and C protein fractions presented between 22.1 and 35.53%; 0.24 and 4.55%; 30.37 and 31.34%; 26.55 and 36.62%, and, 5.75 and 6.76%, respectively, as a percentage of the total crude protein, in the hays with ages between 28 and 56 days of regrowth. O objetivo do presente estudo foi determinar o fracionamento e a cinética de degradação dos compostos nitrogenados e dos carboidratos da cana-de-açúcar, da cama de frango e do farelo de algodão. Para determinação das frações nitrogenadas, foram analisados os compostos nitrogenados não-protéicos, nitrogênio solúvel e insolúvel em tampão borato-fosfato e nitrogênio protéico insolúvel em detergente neutro e em detergente ácido. As taxas de degradação das frações protéicas foram obtidas in vitro, a partir da incubação dos alimentos com proteases isoladas do meio ruminal. Para obtenção do fracionamento dos carboidratos, de acordo com o sistema Cornell, foram calculados os carboidratos totais, as suas frações C, B2 e os componentes solúveis em detergente neutro. Foram determinadas as frações potencialmente degradável (B2) e indegradável (C) da fibra em detergente neutro, corrigida para cinzas e proteína, e as taxas de latência dinâmica, de degradação e de crescimento específico dos microrganismos, a partir da fração B2, além dos coeficientes de degradabilidade e do efeito de repleção ruminal da FDN dos alimentos. Valores de 71,01; 45,80; e 71,66% da fração B2 dos compostos nitrogenados foram encontrados para cana-de-açúcar, cama de frango e farelo de algodão, respectivamente. A cama de frango destacou-se pela maior fração B3 e C (23,57 e 10,11%). As taxas de degradação da fração B3 foram 0,03; 0,031; e 0,09 h-1 para cana-de-açúcar, cama de frango e farelo de algodão, respectivamente. A fração C dos carboidratos foi 22,74; 28,00; e 32,64% para os três alimentos, respectivamente. A cana-de-açúcar apresentou elevada fração de componentes solúveis (35,99%), porém mostrou baixa digestão da fração potencialmente degradável (3,41% h-1), a qual apresentou significativo efeito de repleção (6,6 h-1). Com estas técnicas, foi possível detectar que alimentos como cana-de-açúcar e cama de frango apresentam baixo valor nutricional para atendimento das exigências dos microrganismos do rúmen e hospedeiro. The objective of the present study was the fractionation and the degradation kinetics of the nitrogenous compounds and of the carbohydrates of the sugar cane, poultry litter and cottonseed meal. The non-protein nitrogenous compounds, soluble and insoluble nitrogen in borate-phosphate buffer, neutral detergent and in acid detergent insoluble protein nitrogen were analyzed for the determination of the nitrogen fractions. The degradation rates of the protein fractions were obtained by the In vitro incubation of the feeds with proteases isolated from ruminal ambient. The total carbohydrates, and its fractions C, B2 and the soluble neutral detergent components were calculated for the determination of the carbohydrates using the Cornell system. The potentially degradable (B2) and undegradable (C) fractions of the neutral detergent fiber, corrected for ashes and protein, and the lag dynamic rates, of degradation and of specific microbial growth, from the fraction B2, were determined. Besides, the coefficient of degradabilities and of the NDF ruminal repletion effect of the feeds, were also determined. The values of 71.01; 45.80 and 71.66% of the fraction B2 of the nitrogenous compounds were observed for sugar cane, poultry litter and cottonseed meal, respectively. The poultry litter stood out for the highest B3 and C fraction (23.57 and 10.11%). The B3 fraction degradation rates were of 0.03; 0.031 and 0.09 h-1 for sugarcane, poultry litter and cottonseed meal, respectively. The fraction C of the carbohydrates varied of 22.74, 28.00 and 32.64% for the three feeds, respectively. The sugar cane presented high soluble components fraction (35,99%), however it presented low digestion of the potentially degradable fiber (3.41% h-1) and a significant repletion effect (6,6 h-1). The feeds, sugarcane and poultry litter present low nutritional value to meet the ruminal microorganisms and of the hostess requirements.

Objetivou-se avaliar niveis crescentes de concentrado na dieta de cordeiros sobre o consumo e coeficiente de digestibilidade total (CD) dos nutrientes, caracteristicas ruminais, temperatura corporal e retal. Foram utilizados quatro cordeiros sem raca definida (SRD), nao castrados, com peso corporal (PC) medio de 19,3 Kg ± 2,07 por meio de um delineamento em quadrado latino 4 x 4. Os animais foram alojados em gaiolas de metabolismo, os quais foram alimentados duas vezes ao dia, com dieta composta por silagem de milho e concentrado, na proporcao de 20, 40, 60 e 80% na materia seca da dieta, as quais eram compostas por milho grao moido e farelo de soja. Diariamente as sobras foram monitoradas e as fezes foram coletadas por meio de sacolas de napa. Os dados das variaveis estudadas foram submetidos a ANOVA e analise de regressao a 5% de probabilidade. Os niveis crescentes de concentrado nas racoes de cordeiros alteraram (P 0,05) dos niveis de concentrado sobre o coeficiente de digestibilidade da MS, MO, EE, FDN, FDA, CHT e CNF. Entretanto, o coeficiente de digestibilidade da PB apresentou efeito quadratico (P 0,05) pelos niveis de concentrado na dieta. Conclui-se que 38% de concentrado nas racoes de cordeiros favorece o maximo consumo de materia seca, materia orgânica e proteina bruta. O coeficiente de digestibilidade dos nutrientes, exceto para proteina bruta, nao sao alterados com a adicao de ate 80% de concentrado na dieta de cordeiros, bem como este nao afeta o pH e a concentracao de nitrogenio amoniacal do liquido ruminal, temperatura corporal e retal.

There was a significant difference between the cultivars regarding the neutral detergent fiber content, in vitro digestibility of organic matter, total digestible nutrients, digestible energy, net energy, degradation rates of fibrous and non-fibrous carbohydrates and latency period. There was a negative correlation between stem percentage and NDF/BRIX and positive correlation between in vitro digestibility of organic matter and total digestible nutrients. The results were submitted to analysis of variance and mean test by Scott-Knott and Pearson's correlation analysis. The statistical program used was SAEG 2000. The RB835486 variety was superior to the other cultivars, as it presented 93.28% of stem, 57.5% of in vitro digestibility of organic matter, NDF / BRIX ratio of 2.68, 43.78% NDF, latency period 2.86h and fibrous carbohydrate degradation rate of 2.26% per hour. Objetivou-se avaliar a influência da idade de corte no valor nutritivo de silagem de capim-piatã em monocultivo e em consórcio com sorgo. Utilizou-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, como parcelas sistemas (capim-piatã; sorgo de corte e pastejo e consórcio) e como subparcelas as idades de corte (70, 90 e 110 dias após a semeadura). Os minissilos foram abertos aos 46 dias, avaliando-se na silagem os teores de proteína bruta (PB), fibra em detergente ácido (FDA), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT), nitrogênio amoniacal, lignina e pH. Com o avanço da idade, ocorreu redução linear no teor de PB de 0,12; 0,08 e 0,16 unidades percentuais a cada dia após a semeadura nas silagens de sorgo, sorgo+capim e capim-piatã, respectivamente. Verificou-se aumento linear no valor de pH da silagem de sorgo + capim, em função do avanço na idade de 0,03 unidade a cada dia após a semeadura. Nas silagens de sorgo e de capim em monocultivo, o pH apresentou valores médios de 4,63 e de 5,20, respectivamente. Os sistemas com sorgo apresentam potencial para produção de silagem de boa qualidade aos 70 dias de idade.

The influence of cutting age on production and nutritive value of piatã grass (Brachiaria brizantha cv. BRS Piatã) and hybrid sorghum (Sorghum spp. cv. BRS 801) under an integrated croplivestock system was evaluated. The trial was carried out at the Embrapa Beef Cattle (20º27' S; 54º37' W) in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil, between April and October 2009. Experimental design consisted of randomized blocks with four replicates. Treatments were distributed across a split-plot design, which included three production systems (single piatã grass; single hybrid sorghum; mixed cultivation of sorghum and piatã grass). Half-plots consisted of three forage ages at harvest (with 70, 90 and 110 days after seeding). Variables included agronomical characteristics, productivity and nutrition value. Regardless of the evaluated systems, cutting age affected agronomical characteristics and in vitro digestibility of organic matter (IVDOM). Production was highest (4,048 kg ha-1) within the integrated system. Regardless of cutting age, monoculture sorghum had the highest crude protein level. Results showed that integrated sorghum and piatã grasses were an asset for forage productivity. Forages had higher values in crude protein and in in vitro digestibility of organic matter on the 70th day after seeding. RESUMO - Objetivou-se com a realização deste trabalho desenvolver modelos estatísticos para estimar as variações da população de protozoários ruminais em função da relação volumoso:concentrado e da presença ou não de aditivos na dieta. Foram construídas planilhas mediante a utilização do software Excel com dados referentes à composição da dieta, presença e ausência de aditivos e do número de protozoários do rúmen de bovinos de 23 artigos científicos e três teses realizados no Brasil. Estas variáveis foram utilizadas e testadas para obtenção da equação para predição do perfil da população de protozoários. Os modelos estatísticos obtidos foram verificados por análise residual e a seleção das variáveis foi realizada considerando o nível de significância de 5% de probabilidade do erro experimental. Verificou-se que dietas com maior proporção de volumosos favorecem o incremento na população de protozoários totais e em particular, de Entodinium, enquanto a presença de ionóforos reduz o número desses microorganismos ruminais. O modelo estatísticos desenvolvido pode auxiliar na identificação antecipada de fatores nutricionais limitantes para o desenvolvimento da microbiota ruminal. ABSTRACT - The objective was to develop statistical models to estimate variations in the population of Protozoa in the light of forage: concentrate ratio and the presence or absence of additives in the diet. Excel spreadsheets with data on diet composition, presence and absence of additives and the number of protozoa in the rumen of cattle for work done in Brazil were using. These variables were used and tested to obtain the equation for predicting the profile of the population of protozoa. The models obtained were checked by residual analysis and selection of variables was performed considering the significance level of 5%. It was found for the total count of protozoa and Entodinium that the increased proportion of large positive effect and additive ionophores had a negative effect. RESUMO - Objetivou-se desenvolver modelos estatísticos que possam estimar as variações da população de protozoários ruminais mediante alterações na dieta, por meio de utilização dos parâmetros: teores de fibra em detergente neutro e proteína bruta, consumo de matéria seca e pH, bem como verificar se as variáveis peso vivo e raça exercem influência sobre a população de protozoários do rúmen. Foram construídas planilhas por meio do software Excel e registrados dados referentes aos parâmetros acima mencionados e sobre o perfil da microbiota ruminal. Estas variáveis foram utilizadas e testadas para obtenção das equações para predição do perfil da microbiota. Os modelos estatísticos obtidos foram verificados por análise residual e para a seleção das variáveis foi considerado o nível de significância de 5%, mediante a utlização do software MINITAB Versão 15 (2010). As equações de regressão obtidas a partir dos dados analisados permitem inferir que: ocorreu um aumento no número de protozoários totais proporcional à elevação do pH; as variáveis raça, peso e aditivos exerceram efeito significativo sobre a população de protozoários totais; à medida que elevouse o consumo de matéria seca, diminuiu o número de protozoários ruminais; o aumento do teor de fibra em detergente neutro na dieta promoveu incremento no número de protozoários; quanto maior o teor de proteína bruta, menor o número de protozoários totais. Os modelos obtidos permitem estimar o número de protozoários em função das variáveis raça, peso, pH, consumo de matéria seca, teores fibra em detergente neutro e proteína bruta da dieta e presença ou ausência de aditivos. ABSTRACT - The objective was to develop statistical models that can estimate the variations of the rumen protozoa population through changes in diet, using as parameters: neutral detergent fiber and crude protein, dry matter intake and pH, and to verify whether the variables weight and race influence on the population of protozoa in the rumen. Were built using Excel spreadsheets and recorded data on the aforementioned parameters and the profile of the rumen microbiota. These variables were used and tested to obtain the equations for predicting the profile of the microbiota. The models obtained were checked by residual analysis and selection of variables was performed considering the significance level of 5%, using the software MINITAB Release 15 (2010). The regression equations obtained from the analyzed data may imply that: there was an increase in the number of total protozoa proportional to the elevation of pH, the variables race, weight and additives exerted a significant effect on the protozoa population totals, as increased if dry matter intake decreased the number Protozoa; increasing the neutral detergent fiber content in the diet promoted an increase in the number of protozoa, the higher the crude protein, the lower the total number of protozoa. The models allow to estimate the number of parasites in the light of these variables: pH, dry matter intake, neutral detergent fiber and crude protein contents of diet and the presence or absence of additives. Foram utilizadas cinco vacas leiteiras mestiças por intermédio de delineamento em quadrado latino 5x5 para avaliar os efeitos de dietas baseadas em cana-de-açúcar e nas silagens de capim-elefante e milho sobre o consumo e a digestibilidade dos nutrientes, a produção e a composição do leite. As dietas avaliadas foram as seguintes: 60% de cana-de-açúcar + 40% de concentrado (60:40); 40% de cana-de-açúcar e 60% de concentrado; 60% de silagem de milho e 40% de concentrado, 40% de silagem de milho e 60% de concentrado, e 50% de silagem de capim-elefante e 50% de concentrado. Cada período teve duração de 21 dias, sendo 14 dias para adaptação e 7 dias para coleta dos dados. Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito de períodos de pré-emurchecimento das gramíneas Estrela- Africana-Branca [Cynodon plectostachyus (K. Schum.) Pilg.] e Tifton 85 (Cynodon sp.) sobre algumas características de suas silagens. Utilizou-se delineamento inteiramente casualizado com dez tratamentos e três repetições. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em esquema fatorial 2x5, sendo duas gramíneas (Estrela-Africana-Branca e Tifton 85) e cinco períodos de pré-emurchecimento da forragem (0, 1, 2, 3 e 4 h). As gramíneas foram cortadas aos 50 dias de rebrotação e permaneceram ensiladas por 55 dias em silos experimentais. O pré-emurchecimento promoveu aumento no teor de matéria seca da forragem cortada e da silagem das gramíneas Tifton 85 e Estrela Africana Branca. Houve diminuição nos teores de N-amoniacal (N-NH3/N-total) da silagem do capim-estrela-africana-branca, a uma taxa de 1,66 unidade percentual por hora de pré-emurchecimento, mas não houve alteração nessa variável da silagem do capim-tifton 85. A silagem do capim-tifton 85 apresentou maior recuperação de matéria seca, maior teor de FDN e menor teor de proteína bruta do que a silagem do capim-estrela-africana-branca. O pH e o teor de FDA das silagens não foram influenciados pelo pré-emurchecimento.
