Despite centuries of work, the basic taxonomic knowledge of the flora of the Iberian Peninsula is still incomplete, especially for highly diverse and/or difficult genera such as Carex. In this study, we conducted an integrative systematic study based on molecular, morphological and cytogenetic data to elucidate the taxonomic status of several problematic Carex populations from La Mancha region (S Spain) belonging to Carex sect. Phacocystis. These populations have been traditionally considered of uncertain taxonomic adscription, but close to C. reuteriana due to their morphological appearance and ecological preferences. A detailed morphological and cytogenetic study was performed on 16 La Mancha's problematic populations (Sierra Madrona and Montes de Toledo) to compare them with the other Iberian sect. Phacocystis species. In addition, a phylogenetic analysis was conducted using two nuclear (ITS, ETS) and two plastid (rpl32-trnL
UAG , yc/6-psbM) DNA regions, including representatives from all species of sect. Phacocystis. We found a significant degree of molecular and morphological differentiation that supports the recognition of La Mancha's problematic populations as a new Iberian endemic species, described here as Carex quixotiana Ben. Benítez, Martín-Bravo, Luceño & Jim.Mejías. Our results reveal that C. quixotiana, unexpectedly, is more closely related to C. nigra than to C. reuteriana on the basis of phylogenetic relationships and chromosome number. These contrasting patterns reflect the taxonomic complexity in sect. Phacocystis and highlight the need for integrative systematic approaches to disentangle such complicated evolutionary scenarios. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the police force was one of the institutions that was most exposed to possible infections, in addition to suffering stressful situations that affect health. This study aims to independently assess the relationship between demographic, work, and COVID-19 variables, and resilience, engagement, and the perception of health, as well as to evaluate which variables are more important when predicting health perceptions.640 Spanish police officers were evaluated through a cross-sectional design and online survey. The perception of the lack of personal protective equipment, believing that it is easy to become infected with COVID-19, or working as a police officer were associated with low levels of engagement and resilience and a worse perception of health. More years of experience in the police force was associated with worse health and lower levels of engagement and resilience. Engagement and resilience would be protective variables of health. It is necessary to promote practices related to engagement and resilience in the police force. The discussion emphasizes that more experienced police officers demonstrate less engagement and resilience.

Environmental sciences ,GE1-350 - Abstract
Graphene (G), an allotrope of carbon with exceptional optical, electronic, thermal and mechanical properties, and its oxidized form graphene oxide (GO), show huge potential for a broad range of applications. In particular, their high conductivity, transparency, flexibility, and abundance make them suitable for polymer solar cells (PSCs). However, their insolubility in common organic solvents hinders their applications. Consequently, novel functionalization approaches are pursued. The present work is devoted to the preparation of hexamethylene diisocyante-functionalized graphene oxide (HDI-GO). The synthesized nanomaterial shows a highly hydrophobic nature and can be dispersed in organic non-polar solvents, hence is a prospective candidate to be combined with conjugated polymers for solar cell applications.

Una especie nueva de Linaria sect. Supinae en la Sierra de Gredos (Sistema Central, Península Ibérica)Linaria vettonica Luceño, Mazuecos & P. Vargas, a new species of Linaria sect. Supinae, is described. It is a narrow endemic inhabiting the southern hills of the western and central massifs of Sierra de Gredos (Sistema Central mountains, Iberian Peninsula). The five populations found occur on siliceous, sandy soils of Quercus pyrenaica woodland clearings and slopes. L. vettonica can be distinguished from Linaria caesia by the densely glandular-pubescent inflorescence, dark purple corolla and brown seeds with tuberculate disc, and from L. aeruginea by its erect fertile stems and dark purple -never blackishcorolla.Key words: Linaria, Sierra de Gredos, narrow endemic, taxonomy, seed micromorphology. ResumenSe describe Linaria vettonica Luceño, Mazuecos & P. Vargas, una nueva especie de Linaria sect. Supinae.

Introduction: objectifying physiotherapeutic procedures in the neurological field is essential to focus on longterm treatment. For this purpose, thermography could be a useful tool for this task, since it is capable of showing physiological changes at the muscular level after physiotherapeutic treatment. Objective: to observe and discuss the thermographic changes after the application of different physiotherapy techniques in pathologies related to brain damage. Material and method: a systematic review was carried out according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) standards in the main electronic databases, the last search being carried out on february 13th, 2022. All articles of the type CT, ACT, CCT carried out in humans on thermography and physiotherapeutic treatment in patients with brain damage. Results: 4 articles were selected to respond to the proposed objective. Despite the lack of homogeneity in the studies analyzed, in all of them thermography was used as a tool to assess the physiological changes after Physiotherapy treatment in patients with brain damage at the level of the upper, lower and trunk extremities. Conclusions: the results analyzed suggest that thermography could be a valid tool for monitoring and evaluating neurorehabilitation treatment, but scarce evidence in quantitative terms and moderate in qualitative terms suggest that more research is needed to clarify the real role of this technique in this clinical setting. Introduction: The treatment of class II malocclusions is an issue of transcendental importance nowadays due to it´s high incidence in the population. Multiple functional appliances achieve the correction of these malocclusions. Objectives: The purpose of this bibliographic review is to study the different treatment alternatives with functional appliances able to correct class II malocclusions, to analyze the dentoalveolar effects they produce and on mandibular or maxillary growth, and determine how to improve the daily clinical practice of these treatments. Methodology: An advanced bibliographic search was carried out using the databases PubMed, Medline Complete, Academic Search Ultimate and Google Scholar, in which 54 articles in English or Spanish published in high impact journals were selected. Discussion: Studies show that mandibular advancement can be achieved with the help of functional appliances, in addition to correcting dentoalveolar defects that vary depending on the appliance. The compliance is important and there are devices that can evaluate it. In patients with low compliance, the use of fixed functional appliances is recommended over removable ones. Conclusions: The Activators, Bionator, Bimler, Frankel II, Twin Block, Herbst and ForsusTM are able to correct class II malocclusions, producing skeletal and dentoalveolar changes. We compared the reproductive systems in populations of Clidemia capitellata (Bonpl.) D. Don, C. bullosa DC. and C. hirta (L.) D. Don. (Melastomataceae). The three species occur in small populations in forest margins at Mata de Dois Irmos, Recife, Pernambuco, Brasil and are sympatric. They flower throughout the year, and are occasionaly visited by Halictidae bees, Augochloropsis sp.; the bees collect pollen by vibration ("buzz pollination"). The three species are agamospermous and exhibit a high level of male sterility, as measured by their low pollen viability.

Cities constitute a historical and heritage reality of enormous cultural value. As a result of this baggage, they become candidates to provide resources with great educational potential for academic institutions. Through strategic planning, it is feasible to devise actions that combine teaching innovation with the enjoyment of certain urban-architectural elements, so that scenarios are generated, where pedagogy and heritage converge, and both components are reinforced. Starting from some reflections on innovation in Teaching/Learning modalities, the goal of this text is to focus on two types of university-urban synergies called to intensify the referred convergence: secondments and participations. Although the former is relevant, the article focuses on the specific case of the latter, associating them to the specific educational framework of the teaching of Fashion. The methodology structures a comparative study of urban catwalks, considering them as places where a creative exhibition of learning results by students is carried out. To this end, and following a common theoretical model, the following cases are analysed: Antwerp (Eilandje neighborhood), Madrid (Teatro Real, Conde Duque and Matadero), Savannah (Art Museum), Milan (Teatro Vetra), Cannes (Rue d´Antibes), Terrassa (Teatre Alegria), Florence (Via Tornabuoni) and New York (Greenwich Village). All of them are illustrative examples of the successful and original combination of dynamics of pedagogical innovation with the value of the urban-architectural heritage of each site. After the cross-sectional reading of the recent cases, proactive conclusions are drawn, so that they can induce strategies of equivalent value in other cities, and in alternative areas of knowledge. Chromosome evolution has been demonstrated to have profound effects on diversification rates and speciation in angiosperms. While polyploidy has predated some major radiations in plants, it has also been related to decreased diversification rates. There has been comparatively little attention to the evolutionary role of gains and losses of single chromosomes, which may or not entail changes in the DNA content (then called aneuploidy or dysploidy, respectively). In this study we investigate the role of chromosome number transitions and of possible associated genome size changes in angiosperm evolution. We model the tempo and mode of chromosome number evolution and its possible correlation with patterns of cladogenesis in 15 angiosperm clades. Inferred polyploid transitions are distributed more frequently towards recent times than single chromosome gains and losses. This is likely because the latter events do not entail changes in DNA content and are probably due to fission or fusion events (dysploidy), as revealed by an analysis of the relationship between genome size and chromosome number. Our results support the general pattern that recently originated polyploids fail to persist, and suggest that dysploidy may have comparatively longer-term persistence than polyploidy. Changes in chromosome number associated with dysploidy were typically observed across the phylogenies based on a chi-square analysis, consistent with these changes being neutral with respect to diversification.

Composite films based on conducting polymers and carbon nanomaterials have attracted much attention for applications in various devices, such as chemical sensors, light-emitting diodes (LEDs), organic solar cells (OSCs), among others. Graphene oxide (GO) is an ideal filler for polymeric matrices due to its unique properties. However, GO needs to be functionalized to improve its solubility in common solvents and enable the processing by low-cost solution deposition methods. In this work, hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI)-modified GO and its nanocomposites with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) were developed, and their morphology, thermal, electrical, thermoelectrical and mechanical performance were characterized. The influence of the HDI functionalization degree and concentration on the nanocomposite properties were assessed. The HDI-GO increased the crystallinity, lamella stacking and interchain coupling of PEDOT:PSS chains. A strong improvement in electrical conductivity, thermal stability, Young's modulus and tensile strength was found, showing an optimum combination at 2 wt% loading. Drop and spin casting techniques were applied onto different substrates, and the results from deposition tests were analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and UV-vis spectroscopy. A number of parameters influencing the depositions process, namely solvent nature, sonication conditions and ozone plasma treatment, have been explored. This study paves the way for further research on conducting polymer/modified GO nanocomposites to optimize their composition and properties (i.e., transparency) for use in devices such as OSCs., Comunidad de Madrid

Cyperaceae (sedges) are the third largest monocot family and are of considerable economic and ecological importance. Sedges represent an ideal model family to study evolutionary biology because of their species richness, global distribution, large discrepancies in lineage diversity, broad range of ecological preferences, and adaptations including multiple origins of C4 photosynthesis and holocentric chromosomes. Goetghebeur’s seminal work on Cyperaceae published in 1998 provided the most recent complete classification at tribal and generic level, based on a morphological study of Cyperaceae inflorescence, spikelet, flower and embryo characters plus anatomical and other information. Since then, several family‐level molecular phylogenetic studies using Sanger sequence data have been published. Here, more than 20 years after the last comprehensive classification of the family, we present the first family‐wide phylogenomic study of Cyperaceae based on targeted sequencing using the Angiosperms353 probe kit sampling 311 accessions. Additionally, 62 accessions available from GenBank were mined for overlapping reads and included in the phylogenomic analyses. Informed by this backbone phylogeny, a new classification for the family at the tribal, subtribal and generic levels is proposed. The majority of previously recognized suprageneric groups are supported, and for the first time we establish support for tribe Cryptangieae as a clade including the genus Koyamaea. We provide a taxonomic treatment including identification keys and diagnoses for the 2 subfamilies, 24 tribes and 10 subtribes and basic information on the 95 genera. The classification includes five new subtribes in tribe Schoeneae: Anthelepidinae, Caustiinae, Gymnoschoeninae, Lepidospermatinae and Oreobolinae. This article is protected by copyright. Tsunami hazard can be analyzed from both deterministic and probabilistic points of view. The deterministic approach is based on a “credible” worst case tsunami, which is often selected from historical events in the region of study. Within the probabilistic approach (PTHA, Probabilistic Tsunami Hazard Analysis), statistical analysis can be carried out in particular regions where historical records of tsunami heights and runup are available. In areas where these historical records are scarce, synthetic series of events are usually generated using Monte Carlo approaches. Commonly, the sea level variation and the currents forced by the tidal motion are either disregarded or considered and treated as aleatory uncertainties in the numerical models. However, in zones with a macro and meso tidal regime, the effect of the tides on the probability distribution of tsunami hazard can be highly important. In this work, we present a PTHA methodology based on the generation of synthetic seismic catalogs and the incorporation of the sea level variation into a Monte Carlo simulation. We applied this methodology to the Bay of Cádiz area in Spain, a zone that was greatly damaged by the 1755 earthquake and tsunami. We build a database of tsunami numerical simulations for different variables: faults, earthquake magnitudes, epicenter locations and sea levels. From this database we generate a set of scenarios from the synthetic seismic catalogs and tidal conditions based on the probabilistic distribution of the involved variables. These scenarios cover the entire range of possible tsunami events in the synthetic catalog (earthquakes and sea levels). Each tsunami scenario is propagated using the tsunami numerical model C3, from the source region to the target coast (Cádiz Bay). Finally, we map the maximum values for a given probability of the selected variables (tsunami intensity measures) producing a set of thematic hazard maps. 1000 different time series of combined tsunamigenic earthquakes and tidal levels were synthetically generated using the Monte Carlo technique. Each time series had a 10000-year duration. The tsunami characteristics were statistically analyzed to derive different thematic maps for the return periods of 500, 1000, 5000, and 10000 years, including the maximum wave elevation, the maximum current speed, the maximum Froude number, and the maximum total forces.

Carex section Schoenoxiphium (Cariceae, Cyperaceae) is endemic to the Afrotropical biogeographic region and is mainly distributed in southern and eastern Africa, with its center of diversity in eastern South Africa. The taxon was formerly recognized as a distinct genus and has a long history of taxonomic controversy. It has also an important morphological and molecular background in particular dealing with the complexity of its inflorescence and the phylogenetic relationships of its species. We here present a fully updated and integrative monograph of Carex section Schoenoxiphium based on morphological, molecular and cytogenetic data. A total of 1,017 herbarium specimens were examined and the majority of the species were studied in the field. Previous molecular phylogenies based on Sanger-sequencing of four nuclear and plastid DNA regions and RAD-seq were expanded. For the first time, chromosome numbers were obtained, with cytogenetic counts on 44 populations from 15 species and one hybrid. Our taxonomic treatment recognizes 21 species, one of them herein newly described (C. gordon-grayae). Our results agree with previous molecular works that have found five main lineages in Schoenoxiphium. We provide detailed morphological descriptions, distribution maps and analytical drawings of all accepted species in section Schoenoxiphium, an identification key, and a thorough nomenclatural survey including 19 new typifications and one nomen novum.
