212. Multimodal E-Textbook Development for the Course of Intercultural Communication of National Image

Abstract

This study investigates e-textbook development for the course of intercultural communication of national image for English majors and learners in the context of integrating ideological and curriculum education in the Chinese mainland. Under the framework of Fairclough's three-dimensional discourse analysis and glocalization in intercultural communication, the study proposes an e-textbook development workflow involving text design, discursive database construction, and social investigation and explores the unit design strategies for the course, paying special attention to integrate ideological elements properly into intercultural communication studies in each unit. Following authenticity principle and presentation-practice-production (P-P-P) model, the study constructs an e-textbook system featuring by unit design with contents and modules both linguistic theories based and intercultural communication oriented. This e-textbook will contribute to the cultivation of a locally grounded, globally minded intercultural communicator of national image.

227. Addressing band-edge-property spatial variations and localized-state carrier trapping and recombination in solar cell numerical modeling

Abstract

Conduction and valence band-edge-property variations with position as well as defects giving rise to localized states in the energy gap can play a significant role in determining solar cell performance. Understanding their effects on a device is necessary in interpreting complex experimental observations and in optimizing the performance of solar cells. In this overview, we include the effective forces arising from electron and hole band-edge-property variations with position in a numerical formulation of solar cell performance. Further we systematically catalogue and review a variety of localized states with different types and distributions, and include in our numerical transport model the carrier trapping, electric field modification, and recombination caused by these localized states. The successful implementation of the numerical modeling of band-edge-property variations and defect state effects is demonstrated using the methodology of the solar cell simulation code Analysis of Microelectronic and Photonic Structures (AMPS) and its derivatives.

228. Blockchain based Privacy-Preserving Software Updates with Proof-of-Delivery for Internet of Things

Abstract

A large number of IoT devices are connected via the Internet. However, most of these IoT devices are generally not perfect-by-design even have security weaknesses or vulnerabilities. Thus, it is essential to update these IoT devices securely, patching their vulnerabilities and protecting the safety of the involved users. Existing studies deliver secure and reliable updates based on blockchain network which serves as the transmission network. However, these approaches could compromise users privacy when updating the IoT devices. In this paper, we propose a new blockchain based privacy-preserving software updates protocol, which delivers secure and reliable updates with an incentive mechanism, as well protects the privacy of involved users. The vendor delivers the updates and it makes a commitment by using a smart contract to provide financial incentive to the transmission nodes who deliver the updates to the IoT devices. A transmission node gets financial incentive by providing a proof-of-delivery. The transmission node uses double authentication preventing signature (DAPS) to carry out the fair exchange to obtain the proof-of-delivery. Specifically, the transmission node exchanges an attribute-based signature from a IoT device by using DAPS. Then, it uses the attribute-based signature as a proof-of-delivery to receive financial incentives. Generally, the IoT device has to execute complex computation for an attribute-based signature (ABS). It is intolerable for resource limited devices. We propose a concrete outsourced attribute-based signature (OABS) scheme to resist the weakness. Then, we prove the security of the proposed OABS and the protocol as well. Finally, we implement smart contract in Solidity to demonstrate the validity of the proposed protocol.
