Copper-catalyzed [4 + 1] cycloaddition reaction of alpha,beta-acetylenic ketones with alpha-diazo esters offers an efficient, direct route to highly substituted furans. The reaction conditions and the scope of the process are examined, and a possible mechanism is proposed.

Isoindolines are synthesized by palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction of N-(2-iodobenzyl) anilines with α,β-unsaturated N-tosylhydrazones. The reaction has several potential advantages: (1) toleration of a wide range of functional groups, (2) easy to handle and with mild conditions, (3) enriches the isoindoline family, (4) two new bonds form in one step.

Two different cyclic amino esters are synthesized by palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of diazoesters with N-substituted-2-iodoanilines. Aryldiazoacetates lead to cyclic α-amino esters with an α-quaternary carbon centre in the presence of CO. Additionally, arylvinyldiazoacetates afford cyclic α,β-unsaturated γ-amino esters.

The palladium-catalyzed carboannulation and arylation reaction of propargylic carbonates with in situ generated organozinc compounds produced an important new class of indene derivatives. The reaction proceeded under mild conditions, and indene products were isolated in good to excellent yields.

The electrophilic cyclization of various propargylic oxirane compounds and I2 offers an efficient and straightforward route to highly substituted iodofurans under mild reaction conditions. Abstract

The novel ligand N,N,N′′′′, N′′′′-tetrabutyl- N′′′, N′′′-( N″, N″-diethyl)-ethidene bisdiglycolamide (TBEE-BisDGA) and other eight analogous extractants have been synthesized and characterized by NMR and HRMS. The solvent extraction of Th, UO and Eu from nitric acid solution using the above BisDGA extractants was investigated in 1-dodecanol at 30 ± 1 °C. The extractants exhibited higher affinity toward Th than UO and Eu in the present system. The maximum value of separation factor SF and SF is 78.5 and 53.3 respectively for TBEE-BisDGA, 88.1 and 69.5 respectively in the case of TBPE-BisDGA at 3 M HNO solution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

231. Relativistic Self-similar Dynamic Collapses of Black Holes in General Polytropic Spherical Clouds

Abstract

We study the hydrodynamic self-similar mass collapses of general polytropic (GP) spherical clouds to central Schwarzschild black holes and void evolution with or without shocks. In order to grossly capture characteristic effects of general relativity (GR) outside yet close to the event horizon of a Schwarzschild black hole and to avoid mathematical complexity, we adopt the approximation of the Paczynski-Wiita gravity to replace the simple Newtonian gravity in our model formulation. A new dimensionless parameter s appears with the physical meaning of the square of the ratio of the sound speed to the speed of light $c$. Various self-similar dynamic solutions are constructed for a polytropic index $\gamma>4/3$. Two (for small enough $s<1$) or no (for large enough $s<1$) expansion-wave collapse solutions (EWCSs) with central event horizons exist when $\gamma>4/3$, representing the collapse of static singular GP spheres towards the central singularity of spacetime. Such GP spherical dynamic mass collapse is shown to be highly efficient for the rapid formation of supermassive black holes (SMBHs; mass range of $10^6-10^{10}M_{\odot}$) in the early universe or even hypermassive black holes (HMBHs; mass range of $10^{10}-10^{12}M_{\odot}$) if extremely massive mass reservoirs could be sustained for a sufficiently long time, which may evolve into hard X-ray/gamma ray sources or quasars according to their surroundings. Self-similar dynamic solutions of a GP gas are also proposed for the stellar mass black hole formation during the violent supernova explosion of a massive progenitor star, the timescale of which is estimated of $10^{-3}$ seconds. 233. Three-dimensional Hydrodynamic Instabilities in Stellar Core Collapses

Abstract

A spherically symmetric hydrodynamic stellar core collapse under gravity is time-dependent and may become unstable once disturbed. Specifically for a homologously collapse of stellar core characterized by a polytropic exponent \Gamma=4/3, we examine oscillations and/or instabilities of three dimensional (3D) general polytropic perturbations. For compressible 3D perturbations, the polytropic index \gamma of perturbations can differ from \Gamma=4/3 of the general polytropic hydrodynamic background flow. Our model formulation here is more general and allows the existence of internal gravity g(-)-modes and/or g(+)-modes. Eigenvalues and eigen-functions of various oscillatory and unstable perturbation modes are computed. As studied in several specialized cases of Goldreich & Weber and of Cao & Lou, we further confirm that acoustic p-modes and surface f-modes remain stable in the current more general situations. In comparison, g(-)-modes and sufficiently high radial order g(+)-modes are unstable, leading to inevitable convective motions within the collapsing stellar interior. Unstable growths of 3D g-mode disturbances are governed dominantly by the angular momentum conservation and modified by the gas pressure restoring force. We note in particular that unstable temporal growths of 3D vortical perturbations exist even when the specific entropy distribution becomes uniform and \gamma=\Gamma=4/3. Conceptually, unstable g-modes might bear conceivable physical consequences on supernova explosions, the initial kicks of nascent proto-neutron stars (PNSs) and break-ups of the collapsing core, while unstable growths of vortical perturbations can lead to fast spins of compact objects and other relevant results., Comment: 16 pages, MNRAS(to be published)

245. Magnetic quantum phase transition in Cr-doped Bi2(SexTe1−x)3driven by the Stark effect

Abstract

The recent experimental observation of the quantum anomalous Hall effect has cast significant attention on magnetic topological insulators. In these magnetic counterparts of conventional topological insulators such as Bi2Te3, a long-range ferromagnetic state can be established by chemical doping with transition-metal elements. However, a much richer electronic phase diagram can emerge and, in the specific case of Cr-doped Bi2(SexTe1−x)3, a magnetic quantum phase transition tuned by the actual chemical composition has been reported. From an application-oriented perspective, the relevance of these results hinges on the possibility to manipulate magnetism and electronic band topology by external perturbations such as an electric field generated by gate electrodes—similar to what has been achieved in conventional diluted magnetic semiconductors. Here, we investigate the magneto-transport properties of Cr-doped Bi2(SexTe1−x)3with different compositions under the effect of a gate voltage. The electric field has a negligible effect on magnetic order for all investigated compositions, with the remarkable exception of the sample close to the topological quantum critical point, where the gate voltage reversibly drives a ferromagnetic-to-paramagnetic phase transition. Theoretical calculations show that a perpendicular electric field causes a shift in the electronic energy levels due to the Stark effect, which induces a topological quantum phase transition and, in turn, a magnetic phase transition.
