Phenolic compounds in oil wastewater are highly toxic and refractory. Hydrolysis at pH 12 for 12 h makes these compounds more vulnerable to attack and destruction. Under the binding and precipitation of polyaluminum chloride (PAC) at pH 8, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) was significantly reduced by 38%. The simulation found that hydrolysis + flocculation was a complex multistep process. The COD removal rate was mainly controlled by the prehydrolysis process. The metabolic pathway suggested that the m-cresol produced in the factory was oxidized to low water-soluble aldehyde. Alkaline hydrolysis converted the aldehyde into m-toluene-methanol, which was conducive to being captured by the PAC. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) showed that the alkaline dehydrogenation of two m-methylphenyl carbinols produced a molecule that was removed by the resin. Generally, the particle size of the residue after alkaline hydrolysis was 6.4–8.3 nm, which was included in the pore size range of the resin. Therefore, the resin adsorption capacity for the hydrolyzed substances increased to 47,000 mg L−1, with 93% renewability. In short, hybrid technology reduces the concentration burden of the resin inflow and controls the molecular size of adsorbed substances for repurification. It strengthens the treatment effect of high COD wastewater and provides innovative ideas for extending the service life of resin.

In order to study the long-term creep law of extremely soft coal rock, the uniaxial and triaxial creep tests of extremely soft coal rock subjected to single-stage loads were carried out by using the self-developed triaxial creep test system. The following results and conclusions are obtained. 1) In the uniaxial long-term creep test, transient creep stage, steady-state creep stage, and accelerated creep stage occur successively during 232 hours, and the cumulative creep strain is as high as 3.45%, which is 10.5 times of the instantaneous deformation. The strain rate for the total steady-state creep stage is as high as 8×10-5-10×10-5 /h, the maximum accelerated creep rate reaches up to 0.043/h, and the strain rate of total creep process is distributed in a U shape. 2) In the triaxial long-term creep tests subjected to the same axial pressure(0.96 MPa), the ability of resisting long-term deformation of extremely soft coal rock increases continuously with the increase of confining pressure from 0 to 0.6 MPa, which is shown as follows: the creep strain decreases significantly; the strain rate of steady-state creep stage decreases by order of magnitudes; the duration before creep failure increases obviously; the ratio of creep to instantaneous strain decreases dramatically; the intensity of accelerated creep failure decreases markedly. The creep strain and deformation rate are especially sensitive to the confining pressure change in the range of 0-0.2 MPa. 3) The accelerated creep stage of extremely soft coal rock is characterized by “gradual” time dependent instability, which is significantly different from the “abrupt” accelerated fracture instability of ordinary rock. 4) The nonlinear viscoelastic plastic creep model is established by connecting a new nonlinear viscoelastic model considering the concept of accelerated creep start-up time with Burgers model in series to describe the three creep stages of extremely soft coal rock subjected to single-stage load. Then, the creep parameters were identified by employing the Levenberg-Marquardt optimization algorithm. The fitting curves are highly consistent with the experimental curves, verifying the validity of the proposed model. These findings can provide reference for theoretical analysis of nonlinear large creep deformation and support design of extremely soft rock.

Objective(s): Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a malignant pulmonary vascular disease with high mortality. Isorhamnetin (ISO), one of the main natural flavonoids extracted from sea buckthorn, has pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative and antioxidant. This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of ISO on PAH and its relationship with the phosphorylation of the c-Src tyrosine kinase (p-c-src)/NOX1 signaling pathway. Materials and Methods: Ninety-five rats were randomly divided into five groups. The normal group received only a subcutaneous injection of saline, while the other groups received a subcutaneous injection of monocrotaline(MCT) (60 mg/kg) to establish a PAH model. The treatment group received ISO (50, 100, 150 mg/kg/d) treatment for 21 days, and after 21 days, all rat lung tissues were separated. Results: The results showed that ISO could significantly improve the hemodynamics of MCT-induced PAH rats, such as mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) and right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP), and had inhibitory effects on right ventricular hypertrophy in PAH rats, and on pulmonary vascular remodeling in PAH rats. In addition, ISO can reduce the content of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in PAH rats, increase the expression of Nrf2 protein in the lung tissue of PAH rats, activate the antioxidant system, enhance the activity of SOD in lung tissue of PAH rats, and inhibit NOX1, 5-HTT, p-c-src and Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen(PCNA) protein expression, and decrease MDA content. Conclusion: Our research confirmed the therapeutic effect of ISO on MCT-induced PAH rats, which may be related to regulating the p-c-src/NOX1 signaling pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract To determine the prevalence and clinical features of olfactory and taste disorders among coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in China. A cross-sectional study was performed in Wuhan from April 3, 2020 to April 15, 2020. A total of 187 patients with confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) completed face-to-face interviews or telephone follow-ups. We found that the prevalence of olfactory and taste disorders was significantly lower in the Chinese cohort than in foreign COVID-19 cohorts. Females were more prone to olfactory and taste disorders. In some patients, olfactory and taste disorders precede other symptoms and can be used as early screening and warning signs.

Ti3SiC2/Cu composites were prepared using spark plasma sintering technology, and the effect of the velocity–load bivariate on the tribological behaviors of the Ti3SiC2/Cu-45# steel tribo-pair at 800 °C was investigated. The physical change and frictional chemical reaction during the friction process were analyzed based on the morphology characterization and frictional interface phases. The related friction and wear mechanism model was established. The results showed that the influence of velocity and load on the tribological performance of the Ti3SiC2/Cu-45# steel tribo-pair was not monotonically linear. When both the velocity and load were large, the coordinated effect of the two led to a low friction coefficient (0.52). At 800 °C, the velocity mainly affected the exfoliation and re-formation of the oxide film on the wear surface of the Ti3SiC2/Cu-45# steel tribo-pair, while the load affected the extrusion and fragmentation of the oxide film on the wear surface of the tribo-pair. In the friction process, frictional oxidation was the main influencing factor for the formation of the oxide film. When the velocity and load were small, the main frictional oxide consisted of SiO2−x and a small amount of CuO. When the velocity reached 1 m/s and the load reached 3 N, the oxide film was partially broken down and flaked off, and the matrix of the Ti3SiC2/Cu composite was exposed and oxidized, at which time the oxide film was composed of SiO2−x, TiO2, CuO, and Fe2O3. Under the synergistic effect of the velocity–load–temperature field, the friction and wear mechanism of the Ti3SiC2/Cu-45# steel tribo-pair changed from abrasive wear to frictional oxidation wear with the increase in velocity and load. Ti3SiC2/SiC composites exhibit distinctive physical and chemical properties, which include unique-layered structures, excellent tribological properties, high thermal and electrical conductivity, etc. These properties bestow it significant potential applications. In recent years, there has been a notable advancement on the study of Ti3SiC2/SiC composites. Therefore, it is necessary to arrange a comprehensive overview of their research progress. In this review, the synthesis methods of Ti3SiC2/SiC composites are summarized, and these methods include sintering, molten salt, chemical vapor deposition, electrophoretic deposition, and other solid–liquid permeation synthesis methods. In addition, the different physical forms formed by Ti3SiC2/SiC composites are reported on their properties and important applications, specifically friction devices, microwave shielding and absorbing materials, materials for high-temperature applications, and other uses such as coating treatments. By exploring these innovative approaches, we can gain a better understanding on the synthesis and applications of Ti3SiC2/SiC composites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Diabetic wounds environment is over‐oxidized, over‐inflammatory, leading to difficulties in regenerating blood vessels, and retardation of healing in diabetic wounds. Therefore, diabetic wounds can be treated from the perspective of scavenging oxidative free radicals and reducing the level of inflammation. Herein, we report a bioactive poly(salicylic acid)‐poly(citric acid) (FPSa‐PCG) hydrogel for diabetic wound repair. The FPSa‐PCG hydrogel shows abilities of antioxidation, anti‐inflammation, and regulation of macrophage phenotype. The FPSa‐PCG hydrogel showed good biocompatibility, and obtain the abilities of promotion of macrophages migration, reduction of ROS generation, suppression of the M1‐type macrophage polarization. FPSa and PCG could synergistically enhance the angiogenesis through upregulating the mRNA expression of HIF1Α, VEGF, and CD31 in endothelial cells and reduce the ROS level of macrophages through upregulating the mRNA expression of Nrf2. The in vivo diabetic wound model confirmed the promoting effect of FPSa‐PCG hydrogel on wound closure in diabetes. The further studies found that FPSa‐PCG hydrogel could induce the CD31 protein expression in the subcutaneous tissue and inhibit the TNF‐a protein expression. This work shows that the simple composition FPSa‐PCG hydrogel has a promising therapeutic potential in the treatment of diabetic wounds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study proposes a robust geometric controller tailored for quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The original geometric controller exhibits excellent performance in quadrotor UAV maneuvers. However, as a model-based nonlinear control method, it is sensitive to system model parameters. By integrating a novel extended Kalman filter (EKF)-based estimator for real-time, online estimation of the quadrotor's inertia parameters, the controller adeptly handles internal uncertainties and external perturbations during flight maneuvers. This approach significantly improves the robustness of the control system against model inaccuracies. Empirical evidence is provided through both simulation and extensive real-world flight tests, demonstrating the controller's effectiveness and its practical applicability in dynamic environments. Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is widely known as a classical kind of malignant tumor originating in the brain with high morbidity and mortality. Targeted therapy has shown great promise in treating glioblastoma, but more promising targets, including effective therapeutic targets, remain to be identified. 18A (KIF18A) is a microtubule-based motor protein that is dysregulated and involved in the progression of multiple human cancers. However, the possible effects of KIF18A on GBM progression are still unclear.Methods: We performed DEG analysis, medical data analysis, and network analysis to identify critical genes affecting glioma progression. We also performed immunohistochemical analysis of the KIF18A levels in 94 patients with glioblastoma and the associated surrounding tissues. Patients were divided into two groups according to the high and low expression. Using a clinical analysis, we showed the potential associations between KIF18A expression and clinical characteristics of 94 GBM patients. We then investigated the effects of KIF18A on GBM cell proliferation by colony establishment, MTT, and immune blogging. The possible effect of KIF18A on GBM tumor growth was determined in mice.Results: We identified KIF18A as a potential gene affecting GBM progression. We further demonstrated that GBM tissues expressed KIF18A much higher, and its presentation was associated with recurrence in glioblastoma patients. We believe KIF18A promotes GBM cell proliferation.Conclusion: We demonstrated that KIF18A could be a promising target in treating GBM.
