This paper deals with optimum design criteria for maximum torque density and minimum torque ripple of synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) according to the rated wattage using response surface methodology (RSM). The RSM has been achieved to use the experimental design method in combination with finite element method and well adapted to make analytical model for a complex problem considering a lot of interaction of design variables. The proposed procedure allows to define the rotor optimum shape for maximum torque density and minimum torque ripple starting from an existing motor or a preliminary design. This paper presents a study on high-efficiency performance in an interior permanent-magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) with a constant amount of PM. Based on a provided conventional single-layer IPMSM, a double-layer IPM rotor design is proposed for improving motor efficiency performance under the same output torque performance. With the help of an introduced optimization approach, the design of experiment, combined with the response surface methodology, an optimum design of the double-layer IPMSM model, is determined efficiently. In the study, the main emphasis is placed on revealing the merits of double-layer IPM rotor design that benefit the torque characteristic and motor efficiency performance. The equivalent circuit method, coupled with the finite-element method, is used in the study for calculating the machine parameters and analyzing motor performances, and the experiment results are also given to confirm the proposed approach. This study deals with the dynamic characteristics analysis of synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) using finite element method in which the moving mesh technique is considered. The focus of this paper is to show the appropriate of online observer system for position sensorless control of a SynRM under saturation and iron loss. Comparisons are given with angle of the observer and that of proposed FEM and Preisach model of synchronous reluctance motor, respectively. The position sensorless control system is realized, and the effectiveness of the observer system is verified by experimental results. This paper deals with an automatic rotor optimum design strategy based on torque/volume for a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM). The focus of this paper is the design relative to the torque/volume on the basis of each rated watt according to the rotor diameters of an SynRM. The coupled finite elements analysis and sequential unconstrained minimization technique have been used to evaluate design solutions. The proposed procedure allows us to define the rotor geometric design function according to the rotor diameter and rated watt starting from an existing motor or a preliminary design. This paper deals with the determination of parameters in the motor module of advanced vehicle simulator (ADVISOR) which is an advanced vehicle simulation software. In the ADVISOR, the traction motor of vehicle is defined by efficiency map, maximum torque/speed curve and so forth. Due to the prevalence of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM), this paper mainly focuses on the calculation of efficiency map of IPMSM considering magnetic nonlinearity. Firstly, by means of numerical methods, the inductance and iron loss resistance are calculated. Next according to equivalent circuits, the motor characteristics including speed, torque and efficiency are investigated. Finally, the calculated efficiency result is verified by the experiment data, and all parameters are loaded and implemented in ADVISOR for testing. This paper deals with the permanent magnet performance evaluations in a variable flux memory motor (VFMM) using a coupled finite-element method and Preisach modeling, which is presented to analyze the magnetic characteristics of permanent magnets. The focus of this paper is the operation characteristic evaluation relative to magnetizing the direction and quantity of permanent magnets on remagnetization and demagnetization conditions in a VFMM.
