A multilink access subsystem based on the Batcher-banyan network architecture is proposed. With this subsystem, multiple physical output links connecting a pair of switching nodes can be shared in an effective way. The subsystem is also configurational so that there is no restriction on any particular partition of physical output links. This is accomplished by executing the proposed multilink access algorithm on a modified Batcher sorter. It is shown that the required hardware can be integrated into the Batcher sorter, and the multilink access algorithm can be integrated with the contention resolution three-phase algorithm. The overhead incurred due to the running of the multilink access algorithm is calculated and the asymptotic performance analyses of the resulting 'single queue' multilink access switch are presented. Results show that the proposed architecture has higher capacity than the unilink access counterpart, has low delay, and has low packet loss probability with small buffer size.

Thiol formation and detection of mycothiol (MSH)-dependent formaldehyde dehydrogenase activity in cell extracts which are relevant to the possible modulation of nitric oxide toxicity generated by Nocardia sp.strain NRRL 5646 is presented.

The atomic structures of cyclohexanone monooxygenase (CHMO) from an environmental Rhodococcus strain bound with FAD and [NADP.sup.+] in two distinct states are described. The identification of BVMO signature sequence for its role in coordinating domain movements and the structures have provided mechanistic insights into CHMO-catalyzed Baeyer-Villiger oxidation.

The available communication channel bandwidth, however, is not guaranteed to meet the demand from a potentially large number of transit vehicles requesting signal priority service. In this paper, we define and analyse this supply-demand problem with simulations of a simple time model. The emphasis is to investigate the logistic issues and identify the critical parameters, so that this simple model might serve as a framework for constructing a more complex realistic model upon which an efficient scheduling protocol could be designed to meet signal priority service demand.

A bacterial-genome-mined pectate lyase sequence is selected as a template in order to evolve added thermostability and catalytic activity by using an improvised strategy that does not require the construction of a large library of clones. The pectinolytic enzymes, as well as various endopolygalacturonases, are shown to be useful retting or bioscouring reagents for the processing of natural bast fibers and cotton fabric.

A new Baeyer-Villiger monooxygenases (BVMO), cyclopentadecanone monooxygenase (CpdB or CPDMO), originally derived from Pseudomonas sp. strain HI-70 is cloned, sequenced, and over expressed in Escherichia coli. A modest selectivity (E = 5.8), macrolactone formation of 15-hexadecanolide from the kinetic resolution of 2-methylcyclopentadecanone using CPDMO is also demonstrated.

Results indicate that the degradation of the 2-nitrobenzoate proceeds via 3-hydroxyanthranilate intermediate mediated by a gene cluster containing nbaC and nbaD in Pseudomonas fluorescens strain KU-7. The nbaC encoded NbaC enzyme is involved in the oxidation of 3-hydroxyanthanilate to 2-amino-3-carboxymuconate-6-semialdehyde, while nbaD encoded NbaD enzyme catalizes decarboxylation of the 2-amino-3-carboxymuconate-6-semialdehyde decarboxylase to 2-aminomuconate-6-semialdehyde.

Background: Due to the histological heterogeneity of the central gland, accurate detection of central gland prostate cancer remains a challenge.Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of in vivo 3D 1 H MR spectroscopic imaging (3D 1 H MRSI) with a semi-localized adiabatic selective refocusing (sLASER) sequence and gradient-modulated offset-independent adiabatic (GOIA) pulses for detection of central gland prostate cancer. Additionally four risk models were developed to differentiate 1) normal vs. cancer, 2) low- vs. high-risk cancer, 3) low- vs. intermediate-risk cancer, and 4) intermediate- vs. high-risk cancer voxels.Study Type: Prospective.Subjects: Thirty-six patients with biopsy-proven central gland prostate cancer.Field Strength/sequence: 3T MRI / 3D 1 H MRSI using GOIA-sLASER.Assessment: Cancer and normal regions of interest (ROIs) were selected by an experienced radiologist and 1 H MRSI voxels were placed within the ROIs to calculate seven metabolite signal ratios. Voxels were split into two subsets, 80% for model training and 20% for testing.Statistical Tests: Four support vector machine (SVM) models were built using the training dataset. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity for each model were calculated for the testing dataset.Results: High-quality MR spectra were obtained for the whole central gland of the prostate. The normal vs. cancer diagnostic model achieved the highest predictive performance with an accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of 96.2%, 95.8%, and 93.1%, respectively. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of the low- vs. high-risk cancer and low- vs. intermediate-risk cancer models were 82.5%, 89.2%, 70.2%, and 73.0%, 84.7%, 60.8%, respectively. The intermediate- vs. high-risk cancer model yielded an accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity lower than 55%.Data Conclusion: The GOIA-sLASER sequence with an external phased-array coil allows for fast assessment of central gland prostate cancer. The classification offers a promising diagnostic tool for discriminating normal vs. cancer, low- vs. high-risk cancer, and low- vs. intermediate-risk cancer.Level Of Evidence: 2 Technical Efficacy: Stage 2 J.
